Looks like a great upgrade, my Sir Dinadan sounds like an old sewing machine.

It may be dated, but it is still a good looking model. A worthwhile upgrade

Interesting that both you and OOBill have both upgraded an old Hornby loco with one of these and recommend it. I’m seriously hankering after a Sir Dinedan myself!

Just to say....the triang motor with a brass worm is an XO4, with a plastic worm it's an XO3. Opposite to what you'd expect I know. I think the later XO3 may have improved windings too as they run much better

OO Bill tested these as well and had a worm gear come loose. He has now released a video of a testing an improved design that might be made available ?

I would like to upgrade the motors also but the price is quite prohibitive!

Interesting, I might try that upgrade on one of my older engines.

If those motors are replaceable, why do people persevere with horribly noisy X motors in old locos? How much would you charge to do a replacement?

Is The adapter plate 3d printed, I just wonder how durable they`ll be for the cost of motor conversion, I`ve found that type of motor and was thinking of removing the worm from the x04 and fitting it to the replacement motor, just fabricating a motor mount, alternatively I have some 5 pole motors that are very similar to the XO4s

Keep up the great work Dan, enjoying your videos. I wouldn't discount the X04/X03 motors under DCC just yet, all you need is a Zimo MX600 decoder, makes these older Hornby motor run just lovely including slow speed..However I fully accept the new 5 pole would be better and quieter. I did a video on my Princess Class locos , which shows the nice slow speed, but they can go slower , I just didnt make the video for that reason.. Many thanks
