@Cory Neuman yeah, Linus has even admitted he’s too busy to do a lot of the research and testing he used to do on hardware, and he doesn’t get to keep up with stuff like he used to like to do
I think LTT has gotten too big
Plus the majority of the audience is no longer power users, like it used to be, now Linus has to explain tons of stuff to people who don’t do research
It’s sad but that’s why I watch hardware unboxed or gamers nexus for reviews and LTT for phone or general tech info

99% gamer opinion: i rocked my 3600 for years before passing her on to a friend. and when it was retired it was only because i caught the update bug. as said chip was still giving 100+ fps in any game i chucked at it. that said, it was and still is a monster amount of processing power for any non productivity based task (once you start talking about blender or managing video editing it's time for new silicon) - i'm on am5 now and for gaming, it's surprisingly cool and quiet despite all the videos here on youtube lamenting how heat and power hungry they are... i game at 4k and the 3600 never once made me feel like i needed more power from my cpu. not bad for the $200 or whatever i paid 3-4 years ago...

Ability to overclock probably doesn't matter to 99% of people, even though people like to use it as an argument. I just like it as an argument from the perspective that AMD doesn't artificially lock something like this. If you want to overclock, you can, if you don't want to you don't have to touch it ever. At least you do have a choice if you want.

i opted for the 2700x over the 3600x and just opted for the 3700x as an upgrade over the 5600x. the reason i chose to go that route is because i stream from my computer i game on so the extra cores helps to offload performance.i also upgraded my ssd to one of pcie4 and doubling my sequential read speed. i am aware these stats are hypothetical but i do notice the significant performance improvements from my upgrade. i also went from a hyper 212 evo to an aio liquid cooler because i just don't have the time to figure out custom loops. someday I'll go back and add one but for now an aio is fine for my needs.

Additionally, the 3600 is 7-nm, much more recent technology, and will be improved upon as drivers are released. I'm not saying the Ryzen 5 3600 stomps all over the i5 10400f, but other than saving a couple of bucks it seems the Ryzen does have a slight edge over the 10400f.

What rarely gets mentioned in the AMD-Intel wars is that Intel has long kicked AMD's butt on energy efficiency, but that seems to have equalized, at least in the mid-range. I need a good general purpose, multi-tasking PC; I'm not a gamer and I stay back from the bleeding edge. Big thing I found is disable the crappy turbo function. In default state the CPU will constantly try to run at max turbo for no reason. I did a Cinebench R20 benchmark from stock, with the stock cooler, including the stock thermal pad (not paste, the pad, yuck I know) my temps were horrendous, got as high as 93c. I then tried again but with turbo off and saw a higher score and better temps. I then proceeded to overclock my same system, stock cooler and thermal pad, to 4.1GHz, no turbo, and gained a lot more score in R20 Cinebench. I am now scoring above stock 2700s, and quite a bit above 1700x even overclocked. My idle is 37c average, peak temperature under high load (running an ARK server, playing ARK, also playing Black Desert Online on another monitor and CZcams running a video at 4k along with several other tabs open) was 69c. Currently while idling in BDO and playing YT at 4k I am at 40c. Again, this is all with the stock cooler, stock thermal pad, and overclocked to a set 4.1GHz, no turbo or fluctuating nonsense. I imagine if I had even used real thermal paste I would lose a good 3-5c on temps, let alone using something along the lines of a Hyper 212evo or a Noctua. (oh and I haven't touched voltage at all, just changed the CPU core clock multiplier after disabling turbo)
