"Why is EVERYONE buying this CPU??"
Because this was your #1 recommendation last holiday season. You opened the video by saying "just go buy a Ryzen 5 3600"
exactly what I was thinking!
LTT be hitting the bong too strong it seems
He wasn't the only one, everyone and their mother has been recommending it, and before that it was the Ryzen 5 2600
It's also simply the best Bang for the Buck CPU.
Yeah I saw this and thought the exact thing. Pretty sure a LTT video convinced me to switch to AMD although I sprung for an R7 instead.
"Why is everyone buying this CPU?"
Because literally everyone, including you, recommended them
or because the price to performance is unbeatable
@@thenman23 Yeah that's why they recommended them, that's the point.
Was about to yell "CAUSE YOU TOLD ME TO, LINUS!" at the screen
And he's a big AMD bag holder which he's mentioned before but prob should mention in every AMD plug lol
@@Szanth and yes they didn't recommend them because they weren't great
Just replaced my 1600 with a 3600. I know the gaming performance is supposed to be similar but my 1070 was only hitting about 80% utilization on the 1600, I'm maxing it out now at about 98-100% and have practically doubled my frame rates. It's insane.
3600 is great, i love mine as well!
Thats what im thinking about. Should i find something better from amd rn?
Just realized its 5 months old comment but if anyone knows
@@EnormousDuck2 if you're planning to game in 1080p - 1440p.. The 3600 is more than reasonable, its an excellent cpu. Problem is this is a horrible time to buy parts due to pricing.. If you can even find one.
Is it worthy to upgrade 1600 to 3600 with GPU 1060 6 gig
It's always nice being able to play any game just fine, while also being able to record at 1080p 30fps x264 encoder.

@Cory Neuman yeah, Linus has even admitted he’s too busy to do a lot of the research and testing he used to do on hardware, and he doesn’t get to keep up with stuff like he used to like to do
I think LTT has gotten too big
Plus the majority of the audience is no longer power users, like it used to be, now Linus has to explain tons of stuff to people who don’t do research
It’s sad but that’s why I watch hardware unboxed or gamers nexus for reviews and LTT for phone or general tech info

Getting it back then was a good move. Getting it now is not due to 5000 series just arround the bend.
I'm so glad I got the 3700x instead
It absolutely destroys all the games I play with it while also handling content creation easily. Often at the same time.

Good bang for the buck, simple
99% gamer opinion: i rocked my 3600 for years before passing her on to a friend. and when it was retired it was only because i caught the update bug. as said chip was still giving 100+ fps in any game i chucked at it. that said, it was and still is a monster amount of processing power for any non productivity based task (once you start talking about blender or managing video editing it's time for new silicon) - i'm on am5 now and for gaming, it's surprisingly cool and quiet despite all the videos here on youtube lamenting how heat and power hungry they are... i game at 4k and the 3600 never once made me feel like i needed more power from my cpu. not bad for the $200 or whatever i paid 3-4 years ago...
Just try tarkov. It will force you to upgrade)
i found one for 139$ and a motherboard for 64$. i cant find newer gen cpus and mobos for good prices so im considering the r5 3600. im pairing it with an rtx 2060 so itll be just fine.
I've been using the chip for 144Hz shooters with plenty extra frames, and rtx spiderman remastered :o
so ryzen 5 3600 paired with gtx 1660 super is not good for blender ? at least basic renders ?
Just upgraded to a 3600 from a 1300X. Huge performance upgrade, but the stock stealth cooler just doesn’t cut it. Not even worried about overclocking, it just runs hot and the fan makes a lot of noise spinning up and down all the time.
What's your airflow situation? Case, fans, all that jazz... If you have a solid front panel (pretty to look at), you might wanna consider mesh (much more efficient in terms of cooling).
Noctua - Nuff said.
Linus: go buy the 3600
Us: buys 3600
Linus: *surprised pickachu face*
czcams.com/video/1LkFIlJkP10/video.html
Because it's cheap, overclockable, has more than 4 cores. Gets shit done :)
you had me at *cheap*
OCing has next to no performance bump on the 3600
The 3300x is still pretty sweet at the price if you can find it, not much in the way of spare cores though so you'll have to kill background clutter to get good game performance
k
Ability to overclock probably doesn't matter to 99% of people, even though people like to use it as an argument. I just like it as an argument from the perspective that AMD doesn't artificially lock something like this. If you want to overclock, you can, if you don't want to you don't have to touch it ever. At least you do have a choice if you want.
2:05 I had a Phenom II! Loved it and actually made good use of all six cores (video rendering, scientific computing and trivially parallelizable data processing). Lasted me six years. Can't believe history considers it a "flop."

i opted for the 2700x over the 3600x and just opted for the 3700x as an upgrade over the 5600x. the reason i chose to go that route is because i stream from my computer i game on so the extra cores helps to offload performance.i also upgraded my ssd to one of pcie4 and doubling my sequential read speed. i am aware these stats are hypothetical but i do notice the significant performance improvements from my upgrade. i also went from a hyper 212 evo to an aio liquid cooler because i just don't have the time to figure out custom loops. someday I'll go back and add one but for now an aio is fine for my needs.
I upgraded from an overclocked i7 2600k to a Ryzen 5 3600. Hoping to keep my Ryzen around as long as I did my Sandy Bridge CPU.

not the best for gaming tho the i5 10400f is cheaper and better in gaming but other things the ryzen is better
@@bassemzammeli1553 do you mind explaining what makes the i5 10400f better? Pretty much everything I've seen points to the 3600 being the better chip, and the retail value in my country (understandable if it's different overseas) is almost the same price.
Additionally, the 3600 is 7-nm, much more recent technology, and will be improved upon as drivers are released. I'm not saying the Ryzen 5 3600 stomps all over the i5 10400f, but other than saving a couple of bucks it seems the Ryzen does have a slight edge over the 10400f.
The added performance expected would be between 3-6 frames, depending on the game. Not really enough to make a noticeable difference.
👍
@@epmcgee yeah intel fanboys say that i5 is better than r5 for only 10 fps more frames than ryzen products, but they didnt consider the complexity of having more cores and threads and also having 20-50% cpu usage on gaming and you can do streaming, web browsing and many more until your cpu is at 100% usage. And ohh, mind you that ryzen cpus only use 30% usage and still puts close fight on intel processors that puts 60-70% usage for just 10% increase fps.

I need a good general purpose, multi-tasking PC; I'm not a gamer and I stay back from the bleeding edge. For everyone whinging about rising chip prices, it doesn't mean AMD is gouging, there happens to be a worldwide chip shortage in early 2021.

hopefully you picked a gpu that won't be bottlenecked by the cpu
@@pandaking6247 and what gpu would be bottleneck by 3600? except 3080 and 3090
@@pandaking6247 What gpu could he have possibly gotten that would be bottlenecked by a 3600? I mean sure if you're playing CS:GO on low settings 1080p on a 2080ti it will bottleneck but so will every processor.

@@janbenedictcruz7334 people need to stop with this "bottleneck", its more on the "scaling" thing. Honestly, this ryzen 3600 cpu scales very well against current top stack of the line like 10900k or 3950x, especially compared to those top cpus price even if you use 3080 or 3090.

With the 5600X being $300, it's now up to Intel to become the budget king. Wild.
I mean with it being faster at gaming and everything than Intel's best 8 core, the price is justifiable. I've decided to pay it Nov 5th.
Intel cores last longer than ryzen cores but ryzen cores are more powerful yet last shorter and if Intel can catch up with ryzen cores power they might be on best seller

I got this beast cpu for 200 back in release day 2 summers ago. I remember seeing it for like 140-150 on Amazon last summer. Now I got a 5600x though
Just make sure you get a good cooler for it. I broke a Noctua NH-U12S I was going to put on my new build and had to use the stock cooler. The CPU idles at 55 Celsius. Glad I just bought my CPU, I have a feeling cost will rise even more after this video.
undervolt is the solution
@@akinathor5303 Yeah I reduced my temps while overclocking just by setting my own voltages. (R5 3600XT @4.4GHz with +0.192V offset)
I also had very high temps with the stock cooler. Is there a sku of the 3600 you can get without the cooler, to save a few bucks?
Big thing I found is disable the crappy turbo function. In default state the CPU will constantly try to run at max turbo for no reason. I did a Cinebench R20 benchmark from stock, with the stock cooler, including the stock thermal pad (not paste, the pad, yuck I know) my temps were horrendous, got as high as 93c. I then tried again but with turbo off and saw a higher score and better temps. I then proceeded to overclock my same system, stock cooler and thermal pad, to 4.1GHz, no turbo, and gained a lot more score in R20 Cinebench. I am now scoring above stock 2700s, and quite a bit above 1700x even overclocked. My idle is 37c average, peak temperature under high load (running an ARK server, playing ARK, also playing Black Desert Online on another monitor and CZcams running a video at 4k along with several other tabs open) was 69c. Currently while idling in BDO and playing YT at 4k I am at 40c. Again, this is all with the stock cooler, stock thermal pad, and overclocked to a set 4.1GHz, no turbo or fluctuating nonsense. I imagine if I had even used real thermal paste I would lose a good 3-5c on temps, let alone using something along the lines of a Hyper 212evo or a Noctua. (oh and I haven't touched voltage at all, just changed the CPU core clock multiplier after disabling turbo)
@MerkinMuffly Dude how could you possibly break a Noctua NH-U12S? Did you run over it with your car?
Man I decided to build my first pc in beginning of november this year, started ordering parts around the 20th when black friday deals started kicking in. I didn't get this processor until december 9th, and even then I had to drive an hour to pick it up at a best buy in store. It was either that and pay $200 or get it theoretically sooner but pay $300 on amazon, and man the wait was worth it
I am very happy with my, Ryzen 5, 3600 Gen 3 & my MSI BD450M pro-vdh max.
I have not gamed much for years but since my "Fam" bought me this gear for early B-day (they felt sorry for me cause my last build was an Athlon X2 255) 12 years ago,
I may just have to try gaming again now.
I have always liked AMD even though I paid way too much for the first release of the Athlon 3200+ single-core back in the day,
that needed an air conditioner installed on it to keep it cool.
It outperformed dual-core for a while unless you were multi-tasking.
Thanks for the updates.
What graphics card do use with with? i have almost the same build with msi 450 gaming plus motherboard and an gigabyte triple fan RTX 2070 super.

I got mine for $150 USD on Amazon it was an amazing deal
That sir is why I am waiting. I have an 11-year-old 6 core 12 thread w3690 but I am waiting. I am excited to go to NVME and DDR4, but for me the "budget PC" that had a decent Mobo and R3600 keeps increasing in price.
@@caffeinesippingman that’s a legendary build u got there.. should probably hold onto it once you upgrade..
The first week of the official 10 person in store max restrictions from the 'rona, I got mine from MC for $123 USD open box. Except it was a 3600X. That's embarrassing since I paired it with a $200 'used' stock AMD brand rx5700 from a content creator who had driver issues (1 week before the fixed driver released). So now I'm stuck with a 3600X paired with a stock 5700, which is hilarious as it's a 'bad' combo. "A 3600 with a 5700xt would be better"...and cost 2x more.
Bro I got mine for 116$ on amazon. I got lucky shopping for my stuff cs it was all on sale haha.
the 3600 has enough cores that I can comfortably stream and game or record and game. It was also a good value when I was building my first computer since it was reasonably priced and I knew I didn't need an 8 core CPU.
damn I'm so lucky that I live outside the US
I am honestly in love with my 3600 and 2060, great midrange products that will keep me happy for a long time.
Any chance you can review that combination for blender renders in eevee and cycles?
I'd say you could get a mich higher gpu in the future without Cpu upgrade :)
I have the same setup, but I REALLY wish I bought a 2060 super instead. I play mostly in 1440p and that extra oomph would be really helpful. That being said, for 1080p, it's a great combo. I'll probably piecemeal upgrade until I can put all these parts I currently have and use them as a htpc/steamlink. Unless you have some crazy streaming setup, a 3600 probably won't bottleneck much besides a 2080+/3070+; I can remote play with my friend just fine on my 3600
