    I performed this repair just last night on my 1999 F150. I worked on it until nearly midnight. Your video is very informative, but it is obvious that you have edited out all of the yelling and obscenities that are required in making this repair.

    I would recommend when you pull the carpet back and get ready to put the blower back in that you use thread or real fine string to tie the gasket onto the blower assembly also if you spray WD40 on the On the pad underneath the carpet it helps the blower simply go in easier and the string or thread will ID where the holes are for you easier to find

      For bolts like the bottom one here, superglue the bolt to the socket. Will hold it until it gets screwed in. Then just wiggle a little and the bond will break. Done!

    Listen everyone with a 1997 f150. this video makes it look a lot easier to pull out than it is. Mine was VERY hard to pull out once I got the bolts out. The space is so tight. It’s going to be very hard to put the new blower heater in once you take the old one out
    You’re definitely going to need an extension on your ratchet so don’t even think about not getting one. I made that mistake and had to borrow the neighbors. Definitely going to get some for the future

    Thanks so much- this was exactly right & worked great for the 1999 Ford Expedition- I saw other videos too, but YOURS IS THE BEST !!! The positioning of re-inserting (installing) the blower motor that you demonstrate is EXACTLY RIGHT! Wow, before I saw your video I tried unsuccessfullymany occasions to insert it- I was about to return it and I found and studied your video- I wish I had seen this video earlier. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 1A !!!! Thank you!!

    I dont know what trim level truck he has but on a 2002 supercrew there is additional vent ducting below the fan and it is a LOT tighter a space than he shows here. That being said I've done this a few times due to mouse nesting issues. Here's some advice.
    1) If the original fan broke or there's a mouse nest in there, get a boroscope for your phone and check. Make sure you remove everything that shouldnt be there. A dead mouse puts out an unbelievable amount of carrion smell and if the previous fan broke and left fragments it will break your new fan. Use a shop vac. Its tight but it will work.
    2) Its super tight to fit the fan and you will have to (carefully) bend the "hamster wheel" to get it in there. You can get replacement fans on EBay with a black fan wheel that appears to be made of ABS. It is more forgiving than some of the white ones that can crack. (done that). Push the motor and base of the fan as hard as you can into the padding in the footwell and carefully bend and rotate the wheel until it goes up where it needs to.
    3) There is no room to use a normal ratchet. There isn't enough room to take up the slack. I use a 1/4 pneumatic ratchet but you could use a "zero degree" ratchet if you dont have a compressor. You will also need a 1 1/2 extension for two of the screws.
    Good luck!

    That big black box in front of the blower motor...what is it called? It looks like some kind of filter is in there. I have a 1997 Expy and everything I've been told says they don't have an in cabin air filter but that big black box with the fluffy part looks like a filter or intake. If that gets clogged or blocked could that somehow reduce AC/heat flow?

      Some F-150’s had filters. Mine does not, you can cut the bottom of the plastic box and add one very easily, I googled to find information to see if mine did and there’s a few that show videos on how make the necessary modifications to the box. Just an FYI

    I wish you would have shined a light in the opening where the blower motor came out, I have been told that you can see the recirculating air door to make sure its not stuck and causing only luke warm air and not hot heat..I'm not referring to the blend door, it is working fine on my 02 Fl50, but still not hot heat from the heater.

      +JMClick. It may turn off and on, or stop working. You may also want to check the fuse to see if it is blown and needs to be replaced. 1aauto.com

    • @jbdragon3295
      @jbdragon3295 Před 5 lety +4

      You can hear the fan running if it's working. Turn the Ignition to the ON position without starting the truck, with the nob turned to heat, as in ON, is the fun running? It should run at all the speeds. If it only runs at high, it's generally just the resistor pack. But if it doesn't run at all, check the blower fuse first. If it's not blown, with the Key in On and the heat on and the fan set on high, pull the plug going to the motor. It's 2 wires. You see it in this video. Check the voltage with a voltmeter set to DC voltage and put a lead in each wire on the plug, NOT on the motor side. Doesn't really matter which goes where. You should be getting around 12 volts. If you are not reading any power, it's not the motor as it's not getting power to run. So it's something else. Either the fuse, or the Blower Relay, etc. Now it's time for a wiring diagram and being able to read it, and follow it and find where the problem is at. That takes a little skill and pulling the dash apart to get to the things to test.
      If you switch the nob from Heat to cool and back, you should hear the door moving back and forth. You may need to run a minute, shut off, turn key back to ON, and try the dial to hear the door in the AC/heat unit moving. I could hear it in my Dad's truck. He had heat, but very little, just what little would come out with no fan running, which wasn't much. The fan sometimes worked but generally didn't. He thought it was the Blower Motor Relay, which is kind of a pain to get to under about the middle of the dash. I didn't see anything wrong, but other testing was showing I wasn't getting power where I should have. I figured he tested the blower motor power as it's pretty easy to get to, so I ended up wasting time tracking other issues on the wiring diagram. Finally I just decided to check for power at the blower motor and sure enough, about 11.75 volts and yet the motor was not running. Well, there's the problem!!!! Picked up a new motor, installed it, and it now works, and at all speeds. So I put the dash all back together again. I should have not assumed anything and checked power to the motor first!!! Since it is easy to check. If no power there, then check the fuse. Start with the simple things first!!!

      184K miles on 2001 F'er. I reached under my glove box and tapped on my fan with a hammer -- LIGHTLY -- and it came on. Worked for a couple weeks but that trick slowly stopped working. I learned all of that mess with my Jeep a few years ago. The brushes in the motor simply were all brushed out. I think its time to stop tapping and start spending.
