- This is must be the loudest BMW M2 Competition out there! Thanks to a complete exhaust system from Akrapovic with a slip-on back box and catless downpipes it knows how to make a lot of noise. It's Shmarc150's car and has already done a lot of miles; so let's catch up to find all about it and experience some revs and a ride.
While I'm in the Netherlands for IAMS, the Amsterdam Motorshow, with my cars on the display stand we've been getting around in Shmarc150's M2C. Marc is the manager of Shmee150 (hence the name) and has already managed to rack up a full 18,000km on the car in only 6-7 months. During that time it's also received a hefty number of modifications and well on the way to being a proper tuning project as well.
The BMW M2 Competition has been fitted with an Akrapovic Slip-On exhaust system combined with an Akrapovic Linkpipe offering OPF delete and Akrapovic catless downpipes. The beautiful Eventuri Carbon intake system fitted in the engine compartment offers an increase of between 12-20hp and 12-16ft-lb. Other upgrades currently on the M2C include Akrapovic carbon fiber mirror caps and an Akrapovic carbon fiber rear diffuser on the outside, and a plethora of smaller M Performance upgrades inside the interior plus an AWRON vent gauge used by Marc for his technical development work for future tuning products.
Future upgrades to the car will be an AST Suspension 5100 kit that will be fitted in May along with 19 inch BBS FI R wheels which will shave off 20 kgs of unsprung mass. The brake kit will get Pagid RS29 brake pads and new Tarox brake oil to deal with the weak braking performance on track. The carbon fiber roof, bonnet and trunk from BMW M Performance will be the cherry on the cake before one final upgrade is done, which we will keep as under wraps for now.

People are taking these backfires too far! They are cool when one naurally happens, but 5 seconds of backfires after you lift the petal everytime is stupid

Completely agree. Overun/crackle maps are just stupid imo. If a car is tuned for it's purpose and you get a bit of random flame or a bit of a random overfueling pop on decel/gear change it can be fun.
Shmee is one of the few people that can actually pronounce Akrapovič properly!

Welcome to the Netherlands, Tim! I drove an M4 Competition yesterday and whilst it is a pure weapon, in my opinion the one I drove was too uncomfortable and too loud to be daily driven. I hope the balance of the M2 Competition is better, the new engine is definitely a big step up from the B58!
Couldn't make it to IAMS this weekend, but will probably be at Karfreitag to check out your latest additions. Have fun in Brescia tomorrow! Too bad you will miss out on some lovely Spring weather tomorrow, but I'm sure Italy will be even better.

To me this is just amplifying the poor standard sound of the engine/exhaust. The n55 engine may be unloved by the m purists but it sounds so much classier.
So does the N54! Still have no idea why the S55 sounds so wack
RealCapo88 In the M2 the N55 is great, but comparing the 335i N54 and N55 is not as dramatic sound wise. Wouldn’t say any of the 3 sound horrible.
The biggest problem with the standard exhaust is that sound. Love the M2 Comp though!

I don't understand this whole fascination with "crackle" why do you need to have such a pronounced and loud "crackle" in a car like this? I think an exhaust that is somewhat understated with a nice low rumble yet noticeable noise on this M2 would be enough. I feel like a person is just begging and longing for attention in something like this. I just think its not necessary. I used to own a 2004 BMW 330ci Competition Package that I installed a UUC Corsa Cat back exhaust on and the car just sounded amazing. I would get thumbs up all the time around town. That car just naturally had what I call overrun from the exhaust and just the way the inline 6 is designed, but it was just enough. It sounded just right for what the car is. I think the sound of a car should be fitting to what the car actually is. I mean lets all face it, as much as this gentleman would like to believe he is driving a "race car", he is just not. Its a street car with some modest mods on it to make it feel more sporty. You get any street car on the racetrack and you will immediately see the HUGE limitations the car really has. Hey, I am just saying a Ferrari, should sound like a Ferrari, a Lamborghini should sound like a Lamborghini, a BMW/M/Sport/SUV/Family sedan should sound like what it really is and not a tractor or what its not. I was at a cars and coffee here in Scottsdale one day and saw this amazingly nice looking classic 1960's fast back Mustang and the car had one of the loudest exhausts on the car, but it just fit that car. It sounded right for what the car was. It was a track prepped, race prepped, roll caged car set up for the track so yes it was appropriate. WOW that was a long rant. This whole "I want to have the loudest exhaust", its just getting out of hand.
U are right, a V8 doesnt Sound today like a Real V8 they just want to have this crackles if its a V4, V6 or V8 it doesnt make a Difference today...

That just sound horrible. Even my old Volvo with broken pipe sounded better. Those poops and crackles are just way too much.
Yea, I had a full group A exhaust on my sports car. Made hell of a nicer and even louder sound than this Akrapovic exhaust system. I think these systems are way overrated. Get a good customized German tuner exhaust system and it sounds better and louder than this Akrapovic stuff.

Okay, Im going to say it, ive looked around and have yet to see a discussion on this. Am I the only one that thinks that the transmission in this thing sounds like a single clutch? Like where is the POP that comes from the M3/M3 or the original M2 when they shift gears? This thing changes gears like a 2013 automatic 335i, its fast, but the transition the higher RPM of a lower gear to a lower RPM in the next gear has a "fading" sound to it, rather than an abrupt agressive POP, which I love so much and which is clear and distinct on the M3 and M4.

That’s actually nice on Eco mode however a little to much on sports + with the valves open. Very nearly purchased the M2 Comp in December but went for a M140i instead.
The 2 doors m140i is just an absolute beauty.

My word. I leave at 6am my neighbors would kill me. I was seriously worried about getting the MY19 Cupra but it's not too bad. The GFP filter seems to kill most of the wanted noise, only had a DSG fart once. I do love the M series cars apart maybe from the M6.
It is totally silent when you leave earlier in the morning. Just keep the valves closed.
