Best point i've heard made on daily driving a manual. The skill needs to be kept current. Driving a manual once a week for a couple hours on backroads vs every day in real world traffic....no comparison in terms of driving skill and finesse required. People have it backwards...should be manuals for daily driving; DCTs and autos for absolute acceleration and fast shifts on the track. Daily drive your manual cars!

One exception I'd make is if you're commuting in heavy stop and go traffic that's much slower than your car's idle speed. I've driven manual only while commuting in heavy traffic for 15 years. I didn't think it was so bad until I got a vehicle that doesn't need to do that. It is SO much better in stop and go traffic. Going back to manual in those conditions felt absolutely terrible, particularly if you just got an intense run done and your feet are sore. Using those sore /exhausted muscles having to feather the gas and clutch is definitely not fun, and I've had muscles spaz out from that. The technique feels as natural as ever. I never have problems switching. But I've quickly realized just how needlessly inconvenient it is to go at a snail's pace for an hour.

Pressing the traction control button once gives you MDM, twice or long press is fully off. You can also make your own mode with MDM turned on for the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel. You nailed it with the compromise of the M2, but how that’s part of the charm. It’s one of the best in its class when it comes to being sporty and livable every day.

I've had this car for a year now, and daily drive it. Just hit 10k miles last month. Took it to the track (Carolina Motorsports Park) for the first time last week completely stock, minus a DOT4 brake fluid flush a few days prior. This car is a riot! You mention the brakes a lot in this review, and for good reason...they are incredible, and held up all day through five 20-minute sessions. Power delivery is excellent. You do feel the weight of the car, but it's such a great all-around package that it doesn't matter. And at the end of the day, I had a comfortable 2.5 hour drive back home. The M2C isn't necessarily perfect at anything, but it is great at a lot of things-- and that's what makes it a fantastic car.

@@TedwardDrives Right, but that’s the point. You’re reviewing cars with your personality. As far as I know you aren’t a professional car reviewer, we watch for your personality and input.
That’s why I think that maybe scoring cars in separate categories would be the move. I know it would keep me more interested, and your videos would then generate more attention because they would be scored comparisons of cars in their own class.
All from your perspective, of course. Just an idea

Is the clutch delay valve for inexperienced manual drivers? Does it make shifting easier? If so why does it make it jerky?

Not dicey at all and Nowhere near the curb. Just tracking out toward the fog line like you would. Shifting should not impact the direction you’re pointing 😂

Agree with you - as a Cayman driver I fully agree that Porsche 'does not allow' the Cayman to be as fast as the 911....they only allow it to be "easier", which suits me just fine tbh....

Bear with me but what does the evaluator mean by “Auto rev matching in the down shift?” I hear that terminology from time-to-time with manual transmission vehicles and some ultra-premium sports cars but I don’t understand what is means, why is it advantageous to have and is it something the driver does as he shifts, or does the car have this feature built into its technology?
Thanks for your time and cheers from Boston

I'm looking to pick up an M2 for myself this year (granted I want the original M2, not the competition). How do you think these cars drive during winter? I never had a RWD before and I'm unsure if I should drive it all year around or pick up some old cheap car to drive during winter and stay safe. Really unsure what to do in this aspect.

    • @stevelubbe7235

You need proper tires if you get snow. If it has summer tires, they do not work in the snow. If you live in a heavy snow area and plan to use the m2, you will NEED snow tires. You probably minimally need all season tires. I have a m2 manual but have 5 total cares and would not drive my m2 in the snow(Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires).

I would generally get an MT but since BMW is shamelessly replacing the excellent M-DCT with the slower ZF8, I would get DCT.
