I think this is going to be one of those cars we look back on 30 years from now as one of the all time greatest mechanical expressions of the automotive enthusiast.
Yeah. I also have a sneaking suspicion the car in your sig will be looked back on more fondly than any of us think right now. It's the first really, really, for real, good performance car Hyundai have ever built. For a company that's poised to only get bigger and increase its market share, that will be historically important.
@@freedbeefpontoons totally agree there. I've always liked Hyundais offerings as of late, but this car was a total shock to everyone I think. If you want to see the N in action I have a lot of autocross and track driving footage on my channel 🙂

@@freedbeefpontoons for sure! At least you're open minded about it. They are putting out some genuinely excellent cars across the board, at the least here in North America. Some people don't even give them a second glance because all they think about is Hyundai of the late 80s and early 90s..

@@jeffreyb.1657 And what's wrong with that?? ;D In all seriousness though, the signature STi royal blue and traditional gold color combo is also awesome, but slightly different (particularly darker/more basic). The STi colors are nostalgic and iconic, but in my humble opinion, this M2 just has the right amounts of additional brightness and lighter hues to each of the colors, making it look much more refined and upscale than the Subaru colors. The M2 as a whole package just pulls it off so well too. Just my thoughts! Let me know what you think.

I know it's subjective, but it's hard for me not to see a blue gold color scheme as tacky, and this is no exception. Those rims would look so much better smoked out, or any other neutral shade

Glad you guys mentioned the back seat. I have a 2 Series and it still blows me away how roomy it is compared to a Mustang or a Camaro or even the new 8 series. Pretty funny when you think about how big those cars are and the 2 Series has a better back seat
This. Something about the usage of space in Mustang/Camaros just makes me cringe. My neighbor has a Mustang and its much bigger than my 2-serires, but interior wise, its smaller. I'm just like "Do you even TETRIS ford? C'mon!"

I think you'll have just as much fun in an M225i/M240i.
I've got a manual M235i and it's all the power you need.
Yes I'd have one of these but only if I had the money to buy it and also used it round a track.
End of the day if you're just road driving the 0-60mph of an M235i/M240i beats most cars including the 5.0 litre Mustang at 4.7 seconds.
Secondhand they're affordable too, I paid £17,000 two years ago for an M235i with 30,000 miles on the clock it's still the same price with 10,000 more miles.
The M2 Cs is for really rich people, you can get almost the same power for a fraction the price with the M235i/M240i.
@@whynotagain3639 oh that’s for sure, I will be getting an M235i or M240i as soon as I can afford one. Preferably in sunset orange or estoril blue, of course manual (that’s gonna be hard to find). I don’t need more than that, and I don’t want a super stiff ride because that’s gonna be my daily. Congratulations for the great car ❤️

straightpipes isn't even close and is vastly overrated. It's a much-worse version of throttle house that lacks creative skits or strong production values. Throttle house manages to be a lot more mature while still having a lot of charm. SP spends way too much time on sat-nav, visor tests, and other interior details that take up more time than they should compared to everything else. Finally TH is a lot more objective when it comes to reviewing cars, whereas with SP you really get the feeling they're too afraid to go over negatives or don't care.
This m2 making me fall in love again at bmw
Everyone talks about this as being a great car. But Its crank hub is held in place by compression only. If it spins on the shaft , (And many have . look up "spun crank hub S55 motor") ) its bye bye oil flow and engine timing. and clackety,clackety, to the side of the road you go, as up going pistons smash into down going valves. . I don't call that a great car. I call it a time bomb with a serious design flaw that BMW should have fixed long ago with a recall .

If people payed more for e30 evos and g60 GTIs 30yrs ago for a bit more omf, they can pay the same now, considering they get even more kit then back in the day.
Purchased the same car with the same specs for about sticker price about 6 months ago. It only had a few thousand miles and was fully PPF. I love it! It's an amazing car and so much fun to drive. You guys rock!!!

I love Top Gear and The Grand Tour, but copying isn't the answer, even if it would probably appeal to a wider audience who hate what Top Gear became after the trio left.
I think a third would destroy their chemistry and antics. The best friend rivalry is amazing on this series. If they could snag an occasional CZcamsr for a third on drag competitions would be nice for cross promotion, but that's about it.

The elephant in the room. $126499 OTR price. For a 2 series. Great review guys, just wish you guys said the price with those rims and ceramic brakes.
Bought the original m2 way back in 2016 and I'm still as excited about it as the day I got it. The fact that they've left the fundamentals of this car essentially unchanged for 4-5 years is a testament to how right they got it. The power of these new models does make me drool though. Maybe a dinan mod is in my future.
Also I might be biased but the fact that bmw has torpedoed their lineup will hopefully mean m2s of all varieties will hold their value for a long time. Get your hands on one while you still can and for the love of god make sure it's a manual.

Same in the M2 comp. I'm sure its the same basic cluster for all 3 cars.

As an M2 comp owner, I was presented an opportunity to buy a CS a couple of months ago and the cost was twice what I paid for my comp... sure it’s an awesome car but for the going rate of these I’d much rather have something else... maybe a slightly used 911 GT3 or Dodge Viper ACR. Hell I could even pick up a new, fully loaded GT4 OR keep my comp and buy a Camaro ZL1 1LE or a mustang GT500. Only way I see myself buying the CS is if I was loaded and had a fleet of exotics already and I wanted to buy a cool, unique, small sports car to add to the collection. Otherwise I’d pick the comp over it any day

I own a M2, there is a digital speed reading. You just need to click the BC button on the steering column a few times.
I click on this right away this morning. I will be picking up my CS from the dealership in January. I am so excited about it. The blue is growing on me. Mine is black. I might wrap it blue. #M2CS

12:13 you can toggle a digital speedometer using the "BC" button on the indicator stalk. If it's not there go into the idrive and enable it.
Excellent video. Owning the M2C, I was anxious to hear the difference between mine and the CS. The only preference I have is with the steering feeling. Road connectivity that is. Having owned several BMWs with hydraulic prior, The electronic transfers less feel. Im not sure of the logistics, but the F87 M2 would be an more playful experience with its previous steering system
Such a beauty... I would love to drive one of these sometime... Looks so good! and its sad but everyone is starting to get used to watching this stuff on CZcams and every car is automatic... Love to see a proper 6MT again, all the real driving enthusiast obviously ever wants. Bravo BMW.

I have the "lowly" 230i xDrive 8AT and can certainly agree with all their comments about the interior.....while lacking M2CS performance, the 230's turbo 4 has all the power I can ever use...unless of course, I do some autox again...or attend a track event...

There is a speed readout in the gauge cluster. One has to flip through the menu screens to get to it. After its selected, the speed enlarges to take up the screen.

It will drop from day 1 through year 4. Afterwards it will level out. By year 7 it will start to appreciate in relative value as electric takes over completely and people reminisce over classic ICE sportscars...
There’s another M2 on the way. It might jump in 10-15 years.
@@Juganator True, but it wont rev like this engine. The S58 has a lower redline since it has to be mated to torque converter autos in some applications (S55 only ever got mated to DCT and M/T gearboxes.) Traditional torque converter autos are fine, but they do have trouble dealing with lots of revs. I think that means a slightly less 'frantic' character and the reason people love these cars has more to do with character than all out speed.
But that's also a lot of speculation on my part. The next M2 could come out and be absolutely awesome and FULL of character and blow this out of the water. Then prices on these would tank. But if its more boring or has the new M3/M4 grille, expect these to maintain value very well.

Unlike the GT4, the M2 CS is a limited edition, numbers are capped. Those cars always come with a premium attached but usually hold their value much longer.
I am really going to miss this car.

As a competition owner, I’m a little jealous on the CS lol, I’m going to try to make mine look more like the CS with carbon fiber parts
I do have a M2C as well. I added CF spoiler, diffuser, front lip, and side skirts and looks great. Also have BM3 stage 2 and the car is a different animal. You should definitely go for some mods. Totally worth it.

It’s crazy how expensive they’ve gotten! This is essentially a refresh of the E46 and yet they want how much for it? It’s nuts.
If you count inflation the 2001 base model M3 would start at $69,000 and the CS would be $83,000 today. The problem is everything has gotten so expensive yet our incomes have not risen at that same rate.
The M2 and M2C are cheaper. This would be essentially like the M3 CSL which was NOT cheap
