- Jacob's V6 Firebird sounds way more SICK than it has any right to be. I cannot wait until he has this beast buttoned up!

it's probably the best sounding V6 I've ever heard in my 30odd years on Earth. I admire and respect the passion to do something different and truly unique. it's weird having to spend so much time/effort to yield 'so little' horsepower but obviously it's an incredible personal project. this is coming from a guy who today owns a WS6 so it's hard to imagine going back down to 2 less cylinders, but in high school I had a 3800II Firebird, and that engine will always hold a special place in my heart.
I blew my 3.8 about 10 years ago and life happened. I still can't decide between a modded v6 or do the LS swap.... I LOVE this build. Pure inspiration, lol
Headed to Florida in the upcoming weeks. I'll get with Jacob and update shortly after!
Ls swap it
Cool. I'm look for a V6 for my Monte Carlo. Find a junkyard 4.3 or 3.8 would be kill
Get an l67 engine preferably 2004-2005 from the impala or monte carlo since it has some internal upgrades for those years if im not wrong, put the NA intake manifold on it and turbo it, these engines can handle 400hp and still maintain longevity
Man I feel you 100% mine was my first car ended up selling it when it blew kinda kick myself but eh the shells are still cheap enough but I'm with ya a modded 3800 and 5 speed is pretty cool but so is a modded ls idk
In Australia we had the l67 in rwd commodores. the rear intake to the supercharger was remade by gm aust. to face forward on passenger side here or driver side in the states. we also have aftermarket versions available. the cooling system was also adapted to rwd.
very good ! I like how smooth the engine runs as well...
U da man, more information i got from this than any thread i have read
The NIC cam is one of the most -if not the most- aggressive cams for the 3800 platform. ZZP still does good work with those V6s
This is awesome! Great job
Very cool build!! I IMMEDIATELY started smiling and laughing cause how damn good that sounds. Looking forward to seeing it driving and some passes!!! 🇺🇸👊😎🇺🇸
Wooow, was not expecting that roar when it started up 😂
You and me both!
Nice job kid one of my favorite 90s cars
I just bought a '99 Camaro with the 3800/5-speed and enjoy driving it. It's nowhere near as fast as my '02 Z28 LS1/6-speed, but it does OK. Runs on regular, gets great gas mileage. Dreaming about LV3/6-speed swap. Lighter engine with 85 more HP than the 3800 would make a pretty good runner.
Wish I knew about the fog bracket before I did mine. I ended up taking my OE light housing, peeled the lens off, then cut the back out. The Harley fogs fit right in those perfect.
Looks like a fun car
I'm gonna throw this out there because I think it's great idea other than the possible E85 upgrade, but...... WATER METHANOL INJECTION! Hahaha. These blowers can handle wm injection pre-blower very well. At least every person that's done it has had great success. It's about a $500 upgrade, and also needs a continuous maintenance as far as adding boost juice to the little tank, but man, I tell ya the results are amazing. Added octane, massive charge cooling means more timing and more power. Perfect for a build that cannot add an intercooler. Just throwing it out there lol.
Except I don't know why you say that these engines make great power on e85 you know e85 is some pretty high octane so you can crank up the juice
@@neilbrown82 I don't believe I understand what it is you mean? E85 is boss for boosted builds. My point is, WM injection is an option for those that do not have access to e85, or an intercooler. All 3 combined could possibly even be great for the right build. Unfortunately some of us(including myself) do not have E85 available in our areas.
I've seen some great test results using various combinations
@@boosted0079 can you run e85 and meth I thought you went one or the other because e85 is 105 or so
@@utahcountypicazospage5412 absolutely can have both ran together. There's plenty of info available right here on CZcams showing it's benefits
If one or the other much more gains from e85
Wow what a sound
And after cranking it up, comes out with the Camaro owner sunglasses 😎
😅
In Australia they have blowers for the 3.8 liter that are configured for, and have a rear mounted throttle body that is forward facing. This allows a lot less fabrication work. I don't know how to get my hands on one though.
You could fine the Australian M90s on Ebay and online distributors
Love the sound, did you have to notch the pistons for valve clearance or you still original pistons?
Sounds good
Nice! I give him props for taking the road less traveled instead of just swapping in an ls, although once he gets used to the 300 wheel and wants more power he's going to wish he had an intercooler. If he doesn't want to cut the cowl he could run meth injection, the kits are fairly cheap.
NIC cam is specifically for non-intercooled he'll be alright.
What kind of mpg do u get now with the cam and s/c? Be nice to still get high 20s.
yep mine is the same pulled the 02 sensors or stopped working.
very cool build I just got a 96 RS Camaro 5 speed car I'm gonna swap a slightly hopped up 283 sbc into it for a daily driver
Thats alot of work , cool build , 300hp wheel isn't bad for a 6 cylinder.
300 HP is plenty. 11 - 13 sec 1/4 mile time is not bad.
@@eddiespagetti8395idk about the 11 part lol
What exhaust sytem does ot have l9ng or short tube headers and whats after that??
Would like to know how you ran your heater hoses @ firewall?
I’m in Orlando with a 05 comp g. I’d love to run into this car one day!
I just bought one as a project and i want to do something like this. What kind kf supercharger is that? Heard the m30 wont fit because kf the firewall so im leaning towards turbo... But supercharger id rather have
I’ve got a 2001 A4 w68 firebird. Comp cam X-P hot cam, headers/cutout, 3k converter, 4.10 gear rearend. 9.0s in the 1/8 on motor making 204 whp. Low 14s I the quarter mile if I’m remembering correctly.
You’re not running low 14’s with that setup. Come on man
Real talk bud.
do you have a build sheet of everything that is on it?
I've purchased a few of them knobs like three years ago. They didn't last to long in the summer. Boy, did they melt!!! LOL!!! 😆
Get ahold of him. He started using a different plastic and they hold up to the Florida sun.
Shoot me a pm on facebook. I can ship you some replacement adapters. I went from PLA to PETG and it handles the temperatures much better than prior.
@@6ON6Firebird OK! You're not on FB anymore? I've went back to the convo we had there. I'll also send you a message on IG as well.
I wanna do supercharger do I have to replace the pulleys smaller or bigger.
I need the v6 in my buick to sound like this
I don’t think y’all talked about exhaust, and how do I make my Monte Carlo sound like that lol, just put a supercharger on an NA motor and cam?
Thing must be fun with that 5 speed!
It is! He is still tuning for a WOT pull but you can feel the power coming on and then it starts going very rich.
that motor idles like a V8!
Now what kind of cam are you running again? Zzp has a gt1 cam and then the gt2 has the choppy sound like that which would you recommend zzp or the one you mentioned?
Hi I am building one just like it need to know what to do about the blow back
He can definitely run an intercooler. Even the 2 inch. Just trim the cowl below the wipers etc. Pretty common for 4th gen 4 bodies to trim the cowl for intakes and blowers
Definitely about to cam my ss now
so what does a supercharger hp and torque by itself and what about a turbo
I'm......
Honestly, shocked on multiple levels. Initial thought is why, and then I realize well have I ever seen this before? No. Would I do it? No. Do I respect this? Yes. A lot actually.
v6 engines are amazing imo.
I would like to see the dyno. guessing 240hp 250tq wheel , pontiac gtp similar set up
i wanna do this to my camaro and go buy a upull and save blower but part of me wants to get a centrifugal supercharger due to less paracitic loss and i dont have to reach under the cowl or possibly drop the motor to do the work but the price is just sooo much
For some reason 3800 Series 2 sound hard , mine is straight pipe on a single muffler and it sounds hard
Who did your tuning ? I know ZZP says they will tune it for u but it sounds more like a 1 size fits all type of process and idk if that necessarily a good idea for something like this.
Nice👍
Diff gears help big time 410 will make it feel like 400 hp and take a second off your time. I just did my 99 Z28 6 psi 491hp 471tq 3000 stall 410 gears
I got a v6 2000 firebird what did you make it sound like that sounds so sweet is it the camm and the headers is so what camm and what headers but my car is a automatic tho any tips to make it sound like for a automatic
Here is a link to his build. www.fbodyfutures.com/m90-firebird-build
Nice
So is exhaust straight piped?
What kind of camshaft
I recognize this car lmaoo. If you're close when I'm done with mine we should totally line them up and race if you're close enough ;) would be a really close race with my set up
Find me on Facebook! Shoot me a pm we can hit some runs. I’m curious where ya recognize me from haha
@@6ON6Firebird discord server, almost positive lol
@@6ON6Firebird hahaha you really can't figure out who that is?
@@boosted0079 apparently not lmao, is it 3.8sc from Florida?
@@6ON6Firebird I pm'd you. I didn't want to blast anyone's true personal name. Out of respect
I hated v6 firebirds until I inherited one. Its my favorite car.
cam info please?
Base models didn't get the w68 groundeffect package and I don't mean ws6..that's the higher firebird model (w68) which comes with groundeffects and posi re
He added those. Hang tight... and update is coming soon.
Do u still have the car
would the cam he chose also work in a na build of a v6?
it wouldn't be the best choice for NA, considering he said its the nic cam i'm assuming it's from zzp. If that's the case then get their gt series cam. ZZP also has a youtube channel and they have a video talking about cam choices
Just bought a 3.8 firebird today. How do I get ahold of this guy??? And what did he pull the supercharger off??? Please help!!
Here is his specific channel. He has answered a good number of questions in these comments as well. Scan through them and then reach out to him.

Thanks
where did you get the intake pipe?
He made it
We ran 15.60 full weight 2000 y87 firebird why was your automatic so slow? P.s your build is cool bro
What Generation Supercharger did he say he had? Gen 3 or Gen 5?
3 I believe
well you actually get the Buick grand national engine. so it great for boost. But looked over. Never has 3.4 stay away from them.
What type of long tube headers are they
They are mid length but I do not know the brand.
What type of cam is that we're you got it from

Here is the build sheet.
Should I challenge him to beat sounding 3800? 97 Camaro 3800. Cam, turbo, nitrous, 3400 stall, built trans and diff. But I think best sounding SC 3800 fbody.
I'm always glad to hear good sounding cars! Post it up!
Not gonna lie after I move to FL I have been thinking about buying another Fbody.
I've never heard of someone buying N fbody and then regretting it. Sooo I'm only going to encourage you.
@@IgniteLight If you watch my much older videos I had a 1996 RS that I basically did a ton of cosmetics to. T-Top Conversion, Interior make over. rustoleum paint. I learned a lot from that experience. I do wanna get into kit cars now BUT not gonna lie I have been watching the price of 3800 Fbodies and to my surprise they aren't going up in value. If I can find another one like my 96 in turnkey condition for under 3k I may jump on it
Lighter means faster with boost and i drove a 95 3.4 5spd from ct to nh 181 miles and only burned 1/4 tank
I’m about to put an m90 on my v6, got some questions, what is is everything you actually need? No one has givin me a straight forward answer, all I know is the blower, the injectors and ecu
You'll need a supercharger, lower intake manifold, the heads, valve covers and fuel rails and injectors, Jacob used the stock ecu and it works fine.
If you run a single belt set up you'll also need the crank balancer and the offset pulley a tensioner for the second belt.
@@IgniteLight can we get some more insight on how he cut the supercharger
I'll be down to see him in a couple of weeks for an update. Until then, here is his build page.
www.fbodyfutures.com/m90-firebird-build
3rd gens had 2.8L v6 then went to a whopping 3.1l v6 before the 4th gen started in 93 with the turd.4L which ended in 95. So 96 to 02 had 3.8l v6's
But I'd think you'd get more than 25 MPG's no? My 02 slp z t56, bolt-ons and tune making 355whp/371wtq driving straight highway after filling up and before low fuel light even popped on ( out of a 16.2 gal tank and probably used about 15 gallons ) got 512 miles which comes out to 34.XX MPG's. Now with stock 3.42 gears and mostly cruising at 90mph, I'm turning just 2k RPM's. But the 3.8 a4 trans cars could have came with the 3.08 or 3.08 gears. T5 cars i want to say came with 3.23 gears. 3.08 were 1 one peels and 3.23s and 3.42s were LSD iirc. So being originally an a4 car, you should have seen more than 25 MPG's on straight highway miles I would think.. no?
Dammit i wish he was my neighbor. I just wanna true dual and put a cam in mine. Is a hard top purple metallic 5spd with non power widows rare? I just bought it Christmas eve.
I know the purple metallic is very rare it im not sure how it changes with the power options, v6, and transmission.
@@IgniteLight i believe the power option are the same unless you have the y87 option. Those only come in auto but wit 3:42 and v8 steering rack................... Did some research. It seems medium blue metallic is the rarest color..
10:00 for those who dont want to v8 swap it
What kind of supercharger is that?
Eaton m90 gen 5.
Eaton m90 gen 5, found on the 04 and up supercharged grand prix’s

That's lumpy as f#@kn what cam did you use
What type of supercharger : )
Stock GM unit found on GTPs, SSEis, and Regal GS.
How can I get ahold of this guy lol?
What cam shaft does the car have, I been trying to find a cam
I have this car in good condition but 200k miles. How much do people pay for them these days?
Boogaloo Knows we Can't hear the Birdman half the video !
I wish I had someone to help me out with my 99 Pontiac Firebird with a 3800 series 2 V6 engine because mine has blown head gaskets because of the person that I got it from didn't change the head bolts when they changed the head gaskets and I don't know if the heads are warped or not.... I live on a SSI check every month and I pay my bills and I am limited to money to spend... My head gaskets blew the same day as my mom passed away March 22 this year and she loved my car but she never got to ride in my car and I want to get it fixed and dedicate it to my mom.... And if someone would help me with my car I would take my car to car shows and show off the work....
Pretty positive the 3800 can hold 750 to the block
How much to keep it an automatic 😮 I wanna do this to my RS Camaro
Hello
These superchargers need to be sold prefabbed. I hate turbos. And want more speed on my bird so bad. But dont know anyone who can fabricate such a thing.
The 3000gt V6 sounds better no offense still sounds good
No more ls swaps boring.
My friend had a 1989 turbo trans am 3.8 V6 with 400 hp on nitris over 400. Fast. Back in 1990 the 5.0 rustangs were king untill this pulled up. 12 second stock time is not bad at all. Back then it was fast on street race this trans am would off the line beat most everyone on road in 1990. Coooooolol
I bet your neighbors love ya...not.
Too bad gasoline is $5 a gallon
