I think it was a great engine swap because of the fact that the supercharged 3800 not only makes good power but also has great fuel economy.

A lot of people dont know that back in the day Ls engines werent cheap and everywhere, because all the junkyard units you can grab for a few hundred bucks were still on the road lol. And i did this similar style build in 2006 when i drove my 98 v6 camaro with no oil in it. It was winter, i slid off the road and a branch went all stab happy on my oil pan😮
So i went to the local yard with a shopping list and i got the L67 heads, intake, m90 mighty weez, and shoved all the sensors / injectors into my pockets because the brole struggle was real back then. So my short block was being rebuilt while i tried to figure out what the hell i was going to do for an intake elbow as i didnt want to cut a hole in my fire wall and have the air filter where my radio was. Then i remembered that Australia exists and their Holden rwd cars used the l67 with an intake elbow perfect for my purposes. Now this was asi said back in the day but ebay was a thing and the internet in general allowed commerce between continents so youd have thought finding a used intake elbow from down under would be relatively easy buuuuuttttt noooooo. It took months to find one and then work out how to get it from the land of all things dangerous and or poisonous and when it finally showed up it was cracked and just a PIA. So i took it to a local welder who was able to zap it and make it not be a giant leak. And just as that was done my short block was also done. So with refreshed heads, a smaller pulley, and an OG megasquirt i set to making my 3.8 dreams come true 😂. All said and done it made 302 hp at its 16in tires, after having demanded its tribute of about 5 months of my life and way more money than most 5 or 600 hp junkyard ls builds do today. Torque was good to at 338lb ft and the T5 transmission never even blinked outside of me smoking the original at the time 98k mile clutch before the swap. Its been so long that im pulling the motor just to freshen her up and seeing what i can do with the supercharger as the eaton huff and puff is about maxed out and ive since started building speeduino ecu's which beat megasquirt out in every measure i care about including how powerful the hardware is. So yeah cool build sorry for the novel butni broke my leg and im a little vored lol

Getting ready to do the same thing on a firebird but the L67 is going in as NA so we can fit a turbo kit. Nice job. Very interesting. I'm curious how you got mid-12s in the quarter. The LS1 in these cars had basically 320-345hp and only ran low to mid 13s. The supercharged L67 I think produced something like 240 hp? How is it running a second faster in the 1/4 with 100 less horsepower than the LS1?

because you don't just add a blower and not tune it. It also really depends on what pulley size hes running. On a 3.5 pulley I was able to gap a Transam on a quarter. Couple that with an increase in timing on E85 and your looking at close to or OVER 400 torque to the wheels, especially on a top swap setup.

Hptuners. The factory NA 3800 computer can't see boost like a gtp computer. There's no 2 bar upgrade like LS Stuff. However theres no way to force 3800 Stuff into speed density like LS stuff so it only ever looks at the maf anyway. Basically just stick L67 maf and spark in and size for injectors and it's darn close

I thought my m90 swap was a pain in the ass, yours was worse. I bought an adapter plate to mount the m90 to a Holley lo ram manifold. I cut my m90 with a sawsall and it took more than an hour. I ported the m90 and had 1 90 degree 4 inch tube tig welded to it and had to have another 45 degree 4 inch tube welded with v band clamps so I could attach the throttle body. I had the silencer ports welded shut by the same guy that welded the 4 inch tube on the blower. I had to buy a custom 2.55 inch supercharger pulley from Nathan Herbst of smoothflow pulleys which had the ribs going to the edge because of a belt misalignment. I have a 7.4 inch ATI balancer and I think I'm spinning the blower at like 20,800 rpms. the hottest I've seen it get is 161 F. this is on my 6.0 LQ4.
