Talk about an immersive experience. I love the simplicity of this video and the beautiful colors, mixed with those smoothly flowing shots and the music. Definitely brought me back to the crazy gorgeous forests of California and that glorious fresh air smell. Thanks for sharing this.
What's amazing with this video is that it just makes you feel like you are actually there! No fancy transitions, no shitty music. Just pure greatness. Subbing you, man! Make more of this!
John Carlo Cielo Thanks! I would say if I have a signature style, this is it. And glad to have you!
So soothing. Great work man I'm inspired.
Lovely work! Thank you for posting.
Alex López Thanks for watching!
It is a brilliant work, just got inspired.
Beautiful!!
Beautiful and very well edited and great music/ sound effects. :)
Thanks!
Really enjoyed the colors, esp. the colorgrade on the opening macro shots man... keep it up!
S.H. Thanks!
Just Amazing..
Love This Video Also The Sound quality
Thanks so much!
This is just marvelous! The music is a treat as well. Lovely use of the gh5! :) Sub!
Hooray! Thank you! Glad to have you aboard.
This is what Video Art should look like!
I really want a GH5, just going though the research phase.
Your videos make it much more compelling!
Liked and Sub'd!
Chris Klugh Thanks so much! It's a worth while investment, the gh5 is a huge step above the gh4 in my opinion. Of course no camera is perfect, but the clarity of the image and some of the features, you just can't beat it for the price. I've been able to use alot of cinema cameras this year, and I still find myself coming back to the gh5.
This is incredible.
Wini Yeung Thanks!
Great art beautiful
This is gorgeous! I want to upgrade to a GH5 even more now!
DefyTheNormies Thanks! Would definitely recommend it!
Amazing!
I enjoyed every minute of this.
I'm glad you did! Thanks so much!
Well, your video is on recommended list of youtube side by side a video of my son ( Yuri Palma), probably because he also use Gh5 and...you have similar feeling!!. And...subb, good job man!
oh my god yur stuff looks gorgeous
Maxi86inAction Thanks!
your work is worth watching. keep up
Thanks!
Awesome videos, absolutely love Rust. Inspiring!!
Mark Lawrence Thanks so much!
this is the type of color grade that i love. damn
Thanks!
This is beautiful. I just purchased a GH5s with 35mm rokinon 35mm lense
Don't listen to ANYONE who DOESN'T LIKE THIS! This is AMAZING. Easily one of the most beautifully shot videos using the GH5 on youtube. Really crisp, sharp shots you have here. Beautiful grade as well. This is making me consider rokinon lenses. Great job!
KickHeavy Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that! Yeah rokinons are fantastic.
great looking stuff. well done
Thanks!
I'm a huge fan of yours for a while. I would love to see what your color grading process is like. Blown away with how you can go from Vlog to color this rich
Thanks! Happy to have you as a viewer! I have been thinking about making a color grade video for awhile, but have kinda been putting it off. It'll most likely be coming at some point when I get around to it.
Beautiful stuff!
Thanks!
Would you mind talking about your editing with vlog? I've been having some issues with mine and I love your colors. Great work
wow, great work!!
tosvus thanks :)
Super! Thank you!
Nice meditative work!
Reel Kinetic Action Design Thanks, I appreciate that!
Genius. Just it needs some mavic pro magic .. and it will be above the perfect. Keep doing your thing man this is brilliant work.
Thanks! I'd definitely love to shoot some drone footage at some point.
Amazing.
Thanks!
Fantastic footage like all your pieces. I see that you make the music. Are you selling any of it for download?
Jazz Walker Hey thanks man. No I'm not currently putting the music anywhere, but I have thought about it so maybe someday haha.
Great video, So cinematic really stunning visuals here :) Are there vignettes when using a rokinon 14mm wuth speedbooster?
No vignette
Excellent work, and I love the grading. You mention Film Convert and Lumetri Looks?
Thanks! Yep that's what I typically use. Lumetri looks is right in premiere, and filmconvert is a plugin.
amazing video like always. also your 14mm rok. lens performans are great, did you calibrate your 14mm rokinon? I just bought a new samyang 16mm cine T2 few mounts ago and my lens has a focus problem wo metabones. have you heard about this?
Thanks man. I haven't heard about that, I know some of the newer metabones have firmware updates and stuff, maybe you can look into that? Should be on their website I imagine.
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
drumNgum Thanks!
Great Job! Very beautiful cinematography, could you share what mm lenses you've used. Thanks!
Thanks! 14mm and 100mm macro, it's in the description.
This is gorgeous!!! Are you usuing a metabones here? or are the lenses m43 mount already?
Alex Smit All ef lenses with the metabones "s" version.
Man that shot at 3:25... I mean all of them really... So beautiful. You're pretty good with that stabilizer too! Keep it up, man!
Thanks! Yeah that place I just found one day it was so cool looking there! Gotta give most of the credit to the beautiful area. And the stabilizer took me a long time with lots of practice to get the hang of haha.
Even so, I love your coloring! Very dark and moody while maintaining a vibrant, warm scheme. And I'll bet! Haha I'm finally splurging and getting a whole setup for the GH5 here in about a week and I'm so stoked. I've been leaning towards the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 with the .71 speed booster.. Any thoughts before I make the purchase? lol
That sounds so dope! Definitely a solid setup, I'm sure you'll capture some good stuff.
Lawton Meyer Thanks man yeah I’m stoked! Ok one question and I’ll stop. lol for that macro stuff what focal length were you generally at?
It's a rokinon 100mm macro. I doubt you could get those shots with anything else, the plants are really tiny. Maybe with a 60mm those seem harder to find though.
Very nice colors and moves! Enjoying it on repeat. Did you use any particular luts and physical filters?
EPIC SHOT No filters, just closed the aperture a bit. Lut wise I use a mix of film convert and lumetri tools in premiere.
This is great, amazing picture out of it, it really makes me want to get a set. But I've been thinking, for future investment, is it better to get the set for MFT mount, or get the EF set and speed booster that way for future use on another camera that will probably be EF mount(say black magic, eva1 or a red) it will just be ready to use.
Will you notice a difference?
Thanks, and good question. I like rokinons, for the price they're amazing, I've even used them on some commercials, but there will always be a time to upgrade. If you plan on upgrading in the future, without a doubt get canon ef. It gives you so many options. MFT are more niche, basically you'd only use them on the gh4/5/whatever. And yes it does make a difference. It effects the field of view. So a MFT lens on the gh5, a 24mm would become roughly a 48mm, and so on. With the metabones, there's still some crop but it's closer to the true focal length. Plus a stop more brightness, and of course more depth of field, which is something mft sensor might have trouble with. I would definitely suggest Canon EF if this is something you take seriously, other wise you'll just have to buy new lenses all over again.
Lawton Meyer I knew they cropped everything else, but wasn't sure about these lenses, since you look at them at the store, they don't give you the 35mm equivalent. Just curious if there would be a difference in quality, but I think it makes more since to get EF unless I would stay with MFT forever. Thanks!
Awesome. Where was the location?
Sorry for the late reply, alot to sort through. It was multiple places that I compiled, through out up state NY, and CT.
Peaceful!
amazing video !!! I am planning to buy gh 5 tmmrw I got sigma 18-35 mm ART and canon 100 mm Macro L series which speed booster woud You reccomend so I will get best functionality of these two lenses?
Szasz Andrea Thanks! Well the speed booster I have has been discontinued, I haven't tried the others but I'm sure the Ultra will get the job done.
Hi, thank's for your great video, I don't know if you can help me with the following: How can I setup the focus to infinity in a Lumix GH5 + Metabones SpeedBooster + Tokina 11-16mm. I need to get everything in focus at the same time, is for a Real Estate video Walk-through using a Zhiyun crane v2 Gimbal Stabilizer. Excuse me if this is a too basic question. Thanks in advance.
No problem! So you want to set your lens to the widest focal length, that will make it a bit easier. Then the most important thing to do is close down your aperture. The farther you close it down the deeper the focus. There's an app called hyper focal pro that can help you with more precise calculations and settings for deep focus. You may need more light especially if you're shooting indoors, the gh5 can be effective up to 3200 iso though, I have found. But it still looks best at 800iso. Play with the setting and see how far you can close the aperture and maintain an exposure.
Are you using the rokinon 14mm cine or non-cine version? Love your work, Subscribed as well :)
Thnaks! I'm using the non cine 14mm, it was my first lens. The rest of my rokinon's are cine.
Wow! Amazing! What model use Metabones Speedbooster? For this lens
Thanks. It's the "s" version which has since been discontinued. But most of the variants do the same thing or something similar.
Hi Lawton, can you please help me with the following doubt:
I need to know if the new Panasonic GH5 camera is compatible with the old and DISCONTINUED Metabones MESPNFGM43BM Nikon G Lens to Micro Four Thirds Mount Camera Speed Booster, or if I have to buy the new version of the Metabones.
Currently I'm using this Old Metabones with the old Lumix G5 with the Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon Mount and is working perfectly, but I want to replace my old G5 with the new Panasonic GH5.
I believe it should work just fine! The speedbooster I use is also discontinued. Except mine is for canon ef mount, but I've had no problems. I never use auto focus so I don't know if that would be any type of concern, but I doubt it. Really as long as you can get your nikon lenses onto a 4/3 mount then they will certainly work with the camera. If you think of it as just being an adapter then there's no reason it won't work, you're just finding a way to get a nikon lens on a 4/3 mount if that makes sense. It being discontinued has nothing to do with it's functionality, it just means they've stopped making them because their newer versions are better or something.
Love the quality of your videos, where do you get your music from? I've been trying to find a good site with good songs.
Thanks, I make my own music.
@@LawtonMeyer amzing. Do you have somewhere where you sell it?
@@IrieVibescollection not yet! But possibly in the future.
Did you use the Metabones Speedbooster XL or just the normal Metabones adapter? Nice video btw!
I use the "s" version. Which is now discontinued as far as I know.
great video... which speedbooster version did you use? XL or Ultra?
Thanks! I have the "S" version, I believe it's discontinued now.
nice! some shots remind me of The Revenant.
Thanks so much! That's one of my favorite movies. My primary lens is the 14mm and that's also what they shot most of the revenant with.
man, this video is stunning, I'm definitely getting the GH5 after seeing this! I just have one question I've never really got: the 14mm rokinon with the speedbooster, is it still 14mm or it actually functions as a 28mm?
Thanks! With the speed booster it's much closer to 14mm. On the gh4 it was around 19mm. But the gh5 looks much wider so I'm not exactly sure.
Thanks man. Yeah I think on the gh4 it was probably 19mm but i'd believe 21mm. It's worth noting though that I have an old metabones, it's since been discontinued, it has a different crop reduction value but I'm not sure how much exactly. It's definitely wider than 21mm though. thanks for your comment, I'll know what to tell people now when they ask for the new ones haha.
Arh so good man! :) hows dem macro shots!! fuarkk!!
Lol, having lots of fun with macro, it's like a different world!
beautiful work! How did you get the colors to look like that?
This was all graded in premiere. I used lumetri tools and filmconvert. I believe I also added an additional rgb curves layer.
Thank you!
Question: Just curious about your process. Did you plan out this shoot beforehand? Or was it something you decided to do, so you took out your camera and filmed it, then cleaned it up in post? Was there a lot of pre-planning on your end to do this shoot?
Reel Kinetic Action Design I don't think anyone's asked that question before, good one. Short answer is yes, I do plan out my CZcams videos. Not as much prep goes into them as if I were doing a music video, short film, something for a client, etc. I kinda plan the structure and the major shots I want. So I'll come up with the sorta story I want to tell and have the various shots in mind needed to create that. Like for this I knew I wanted the buds on the trees and wide shots in multiple forests, and I knew I needed a ton of shots for this because I had written the music before hand and knew I wanted to do the fast montage and stuff. And I chose locations I thought would be good for what I needed. I'm also editing in my head while I'm shooting. So I guess the tldr of that would be yes, they are planned out and everything I shoot is motivated, but not in a typical manner with shot lists and the like. There's room for flexibility, and going into the woods you don't know what you might find or what story might unfold by itself, so it's like a mix of loose narrative and documentary.
Beautiful, what extra steps you had to take to match your Rokinon lens up with you Metabones Speedbooster and the GH5? I have the same setup and I not having much luck.
Hmm, all I did was put the speedbooster on the camera, then the lens on the speedbooster. I didn't do anything else. I believe there are some firmware updates out there, but I've never bothered with them myself. Make sure you have the right one. You want a MFT to EF mount. The GH5 is a 4/3 camera so you need to make sure it's the right mount to fit to that, then if you have EF lenses you need to make sure the other end of the metabones is the correct size to take those lenses. And make sure what mount your rokinons are. If they're sony, get a mft to sony, if they're canon ef make sure to get the mft to ef, etc. Also make sure you didn't get MFT rokinon lenses, because in that case they would mount straight to the camera. The metabones doubles as an adapter, which is the primary reason I got mine, so I could mount my existing canon lenses to the GH4 and GH5 MFT mount. That's all I can think of, hope you figure it out!
I have the Metabones ultra 0.71x and my rokinons are EF. when I turn on the GH5 it ask what lens mm you'r using, I seen videos say you had to times the mm lens by .71 which is the Metabones ultra .71 and set the GH5 to that lens mm. so when the GH5 ask you you just list the size mm you'r using at the time?
Ohhh. Well I always just put in the mm that it is. So if I'm using an 85mm that's what I enter in, I don't calculate it or anything.
Got It, Thanks Lawton Meyer Enjoy Your Holiday
You as well.
I have a samnyang 14mm for my canon. Can i fit it on a gh5 with the booster?
If you have the speedbooster yes. All you're doing is just connecting things. A canon lens needs an ef mount. GH5 has a 4/3 mount, if you put an adapter that mounts to a 4/3 camera and has an ef front, then you can attach any ef lens to that mount.
请问您这个视频商用怎么收费呀~拍的真的太好了……
Damn dude that was so cool, I love the macro shots! where did you get the smoke man?
Thanks! The smoke I shot in my basement. Used a fog machine and lights with colored gels, blue and orange for the colored smoke. And I hung up a black sheet so the background was dark, then just keyed out the dark and the smoke was all that was left in the shot, and just layered it over the video. Yep. And I actually shot the smoke with the GH4 at 1080 so it might be a little soft but figured it was okay because it's just smoke. lol
I'd love to see how you graded those macro shots man, the colour looks so nice
Thanks! I have been thinking about doing a color grading video for awhile, just haven't been able to find time yet. Maybe soon!
This confirmed my purchase of a gh5 from my gh4. Hopefully my sigma/speedbooster combo works out just as well.
Awesome! Yeah honestly after using both the gh4 and gh5 the gh4 seems like garbage by comparison. The gh5 is a big step up in alot of ways. I think some people were disappointed because there weren't as many "new crazy features" but they really polished up alot of things. Anyway yeah, cool.
Wow garbage in comparison, that is saying alot. I loved my GH4, i still dont think ive even tapped into its potential, but why not upgrade if you can right? haha Also this video was fantastic, keep up the good work.
Thanks! Perhaps garbage is a bit of an exaggeration lol, I just used the GH4 as a b camera on a shoot, but there's so many little improvements with the GH5 that's it's hard to go back to the GH4, is what I meant I guess lol.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi there! Im looking to buy a Gh5 but I thought it does not have the option to film V-Log. is that better than Cine-D?
V-log can be purchased separately. Whether V-log or Cine D is better is largely subjective, depending on what type of videos you're shooting, in what conditions, and how you'll be grading the footage.
Thanks for the reply. That is the problem, I don't know when to use them. I use Standard mode on my G7.
If you don't know then you should be using Cinelike d or v. V log is a much more involved process and takes more to look good.
well done, curious what part of the country you shot this in...
Haha good question. It's a mix of upstate New York and Connecticut. Where I typically like to shoot these kinds of things. I like to just drive around and find cool places. There's so many state forests and trails and parks around here. Just driving down any dirt road you'll find lots of interesting places.
Funny I thought it looked familiar - is some of it in Cornwall, CT by chance?
Close! The parts in ct were in Canaan I think.
oh also this one trail by the housatonic river
not sure if gh5 is awesome, or your color grading is out of this world. nice work either way
Down Town haha thanks! A bit of both perhaps.
tres bel esprit
amazing man!
Did you use speedbooster so?
BOKEH!!!!
So technically your 14mm is 17mm on gh5 with the speedbooster?
Something like that, I don't know if it's 17mm, 19mm, or 21mm. I always forget. But it fills the role of a wide angle lens well.
Is this metabones ultra or xl?
Neither, it's the "S" version. I believe it's since been discontinued. I got it back in 2014 or so.
Lawton Meyer ahh okay. Which one should I buy now? Any suggestions?
Hmm, well I haven't used either of the new ones so can't say for sure. I believe the difference between them is how much crop there is. So depending on how you like to shoot and frame may be a good place to start thinking which makes more sense for you. I'm sure both will work great though.
Magnificent! 3:25 is my favorite shot.
Thanks! Yeah I just sorta stumbled upon that location, it's amazing there!
слишком быстрые переходы
Это совпадение с песней
смотрел без звука. Тогда ладно.
Okay, I got bored with this, even with the visuals. Too slow. You could've cut this in half and it would be fine.
Thanks for the feedback. The purpose is for it to be more of a journey and have three acts so to speak. It is however my longest nature themed video, and I am aware of that. It's also easier to get bored when there's no people in the video, I understand that as well. According to my analytics this video actually has one of my highest view times, and viewers staying through a majority of it, which in all honesty surprises me. I don't expect this to be a fast exciting video, it's meant to be slower and relaxing. I will admit that this is perhaps more of an indulgent video on my part, I like long nature shots, I like being drawn in. And certainly looking at this now I think many of the shots, in the third section especially, could be cut out, I think some of the wide nature shots in the third section are boring and redundant, they don't specifically serve much of a purpose in some cases. Thank you for your input, I'll keep it in mind for the future. I would agree that youtube may not be the best place for a 5 minute video, especially when the only character is the environment.
You're a good sport. Thanks.
Allow us to disagree on this. Yes, maybe the majority of people look for some cool, dynamic lifestyle videos of people walking in slow mo with an uplifting musical background and some amazing landscapes for 2minutes no more etc (And we do love these videos! haha). But there are too few videos focusing on how to make you feel in the present, enjoying the simple beautie of the surrounding environment. I think you did a brilliant job with this video Lawton!
It's obviously not just about enjoying the aesthetic of it but it's also about making the spectator feel in the moment. And I have to say it works! Also very relaxing! The colograding is absolutely beautiful! The no gravity style of your footage is really well done and I think 5minutes helps the purpose and the spirit of this video more than the average 1m30sec...
Weston Bernard, maybe you should try and use CZcams to search videos with more patience and remember that it's not only about watching quick content all the time, clicking on 10 vidéos in 10 minutes ;-)
And like Lawton Meyer said, he got a lot more views on this video! Which speaks for itself don't you think? But in the end it's just a matter of taste ;-)
Anyway! Good work Lawton Meyer!
Chasing Tomorrow Thank you! Yes these pieces are all about feeling for me, I appreciate the people who "get it" but also realize nit everyone will, even most people because of the nature of it. But yes creating the feel is what I'm all about, glad you liked it!
For this response, you earned another sub. I really enjoyed this video and the way you slowed things down to a purposeful crawl. It just oozed atmosphere and has inspired me to slow things down as well. Thanks for putting this video out there. I'm glad I stumbled on to it.
