Crazy good!
The Squonk part, always gives me chills...
Not to mention the premier arranger, writer, conductor, and player of this century, Quincy Jones!
Very true about Quincy, but did you know Phil did his own arrangements of most of his music (though his did not score them)? I am sure you are right about Quincy scoring all this. Phil also produced hit albums by BIG name soloists such as Zeppelin's Robert Plant and his friend Eric Clapton to name just two.
The best Phil Collins ! Master
I mean you can’t really get better than this can you. Top of the league players. Collins one of the all time great 20th century drummers. Who remembers Brand X - Phil Collins 70’s prog rock band?
showmoke: I do.
Brand X were 🔥
The drumming on Unorthodox Behaviour is absolutely delicious.
And So To F....
@@richardmoloney689 - 'and so to F' is an extraordinary piece of work. I have a rather grainy video of Brand X playing that number live on the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test and despite the poor picture and sound quality, it's still possible to see/hear and admire what was being played out in front of the viewer.
Fantastic proof of Phil Collins extraordinary drumming and total musicianship. And Quincy! Wow!
I can’t get enough of this, Phil Collins, Brad Cole, Daryl Stuermer, Nathan East, Harry Kim and the Vine Street Horns... Love it!!
Don't forget the legend that is David Sanborn
Don't forget the legend Quincy Jones
Brad Cole is the keyboardist, right?
Luis Conte the Cuban percussionist seemed to steal the show.
There will always be a massive place in my heart for Phill Collins's music, drumming. the memories are golden, his contribution to music as a drummer, singer, producer,all-round top man outstrips anything unparalleled that has been before him in UK and since. Go on my son x
In fact . This best Music for you and me
My cup of tea
He took over from the Beatles with Genesis and onwards !!!!
In a word.....FANTASTIC...
Performances like this leave me awestruck. There are just no words.
And Phil did it all in his mind without really being able to read a chart...phenomenal...
Magnifico.💪💪💪💪💪💪
Los Endos, un clásico de Génesis
Todo perfecto y el solo de trompeta espectacular 👍
Collins can play polyrhythms, and play them superbly, a major drummer worldwide.
There will be always a Montreux Jazz Festival!!😍😍
What groove on this. Phil ‘the human metronome’ Collins, Luis Conte on percussions, Nathan East on bass, David Sanborn on Sax and even Phil’s regular sideman Daryl Steurmer on guitar. And that horn section. Conducted by the living legend QJ!
Awesome production love to hear another of genesis songs like that
what an arrangement...wow ...quincy
This is outstanding!!! The talent is FANSTATIC.. can not believe there are actually some rockers in there.
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
I was there - a magnificent moment!
Genesis played by a big band. How cool is this? 👏
Most interesting piece I've seen/heard from a post 80s Genesis member in 40 years
With all due respect to Quincy and Phil, Luis Conte on percussion lights this piece and keeps the flames stoked throughout. I got to speak to him at a PAS event near DC years ago and his talent is beyond comprehension. Nice guy too. Thanks Phil! Thanks Quincy! Thanks Luis! and thanks to Herbie Hancock (who had nothing to do with this btw) while I'm m at it!! Miraculous talent in action is a gift from God, a reflection of His infinite wisdom and love.
Great video, I have this on dvd or blu ray somewhere. Los Endos is my favorite Genesis track to hear live (with the exception of the complete Suppers Ready which I saw live in 1982). Its a scorching sizzling example of Genesis doing jazz fusion at its best. I saw Genesis live 10 times and EVERY concert I went to they ended the main set list with Los Endos. IT WAS ALWAYS KILLER LIVE, with Phil dual drumming with Chester Thompson. A perfect way to end the concert (before the encores). That includes the 2007 Genesis Reunion Tour, 31 years after Los Endos was first performed.
I wish I could have seen this Big Band Tour live, but its great to have this documented on video for posterity. What a band! I had forgotten about David Sanborn, very cool. (He grew up in my hometown, StL area).
If anyone had ever doubted Phil's drumming or jazz chops, (ie you only know he sings Sussudio and the Tarzan Disney song), you might want to listen to his work as Genesis' drummer from 1971>1992, the 2007 Reunion Tour, plus his work with the Progressive jazz fusion group Brand X in the late 70s/early 80s. Great instrumental jazz fusion drumming. Plus his drum duets with Chester Thompson on his solo tours.
Its Bruford, Collins, Carl Palmer and Neil Peart as far as best drummers in the last 50+ years.
Only nit with this video is no Chester for some reason, and a bit too much of his percussionist at the beginning. Otherwise fantastic.
I’d like to add Stewart Copeland to that list myself but that’s imho 😊
Phil at has best!!!! Incredible!!!!
Dang, that was amazing!! Just recently discovered Phil's Big Band, and I've become obsessed!! Q leading the way only makes it better!! 🔥😎❤️
I am so proud you. Phil and respect you
oh my word....simply magical..oh yes
This is the result , when a group of professional, talented musicians get together.
God, I just love watching these videos of Phil Collins - The Drummer! Such a fucking Fantastic Musician! He swings harder than any other "Rock" drummer I've ever heard. He was amongst The Greatest!
FFS what a performance Nathan East , David Sanborn and Q 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks. I was wondering who that great sax solo was played by, of course Sanborn. Would have loved to hear the encore. Phil always gives it his all.
I might also add the rest of them. Amazing!
Non ci credete è FANTASCIENZA ❤❤❤
Absolutely amazing! Why have I not come across this masterpiece before now? Every now and then you come across a truly phenomenal piece of music on CZcams and feel like you've struck gold.
Agreed Scott! It always happens when you least expect it.
Agree. I'm a jazzer all the way. Not that familiar with Phil. This is a great piece beautifully orchestrated and executed by Quincy, Phil & all.
If you didn't know it's actually based on one of the Genesis big stadium sets... albeit this us a jazzed up version
Phil did a ‘big band’ tour. There’s a few concerts on here.
My eye missed the 'Los Endos suite' part of the title so I settled back to hear Phil contribute & fit in to another genre of music. When I realised what was going on it put an even bigger smile on my face :-D
I love this video it is beautiful thank you phil
its the percussionist who pulls him out world class
If I spent six months, I still couldn't memorize a chart like that. 🤯
I love how Quincy embraces the moment and as a conductor allows the flow to be embraced by the audience. The solo on the timbales drives this point home. Then he bring the heat with a powerful ansamble to colaborate in the dynasty of sound and amazement. He is a BAD ASS! If you do not agree, we can not be friends. He dominated. my youth in the 80's and 90's. A master of his craft and a dominant figure of HIS time. Love you mucho Quincy Jones! 👍😁😁😎👍👍👍👍👍
Jerry Santos day
That's why he's the greatest nobody touches him
jesus CHRIST this is amazing! phil collins
I only believe in gods of musics. Wonderfull.
This is amazing....a big band rendition of a Genesis classic and it works. Thanks for putting this up.
And the great David Sanborn slips in at the finale - top drawer from the world's best. Thanks for the upload.
Phil you are wonderful in a jazz band
You tube suggested this to me and being a lover of music, big band, Phil and Quincy along with the other well known talent in this band I just love this.
The big band sound....!!
There ain't anything better...
He’s not the messiah he’s a very naughty boy and a feckin genius with it 🤩 any one for some Cheese 🧀❤️💫
Absolutely stunningly great! Bravo! PHILL!
Excellent, I knew Phil Collins was a Drummer, but had NO Idea he was THIS Good a player in a Big Band Format....quite Amazing....really.
Very underated and sadly much maligned. Not sure why. Maybe his foray into pop did it. Either way he is a consumate professional.
Really. Where have you been? He has been drumming since he was four and was Genesis’ Drummer starting in 1970. You may want to research Phil’s incredibly extensive discography.
@@voxac30withstrat I remember an interview with Bill Bruford where he referred to Phil's drumming in a pretty disparaging way. As a drummer myself, I'll take Phil over Bill any day. You can learn all the chops in the world, but a feel like Phil's can't be bought or sold.
Phil collins music is to be respected
Los Endos is a Genesis tune just to be precise.
Bloody heck! Wow!
Wow I didn’t know this existed. Phil is such an amazing drummer. And the rest of the big band aren’t bad either 😉
I remember when Phill Practiced at the old GoodYear Blimp Hanger in Houston. I hung out outside at the age of 19 listening to how he practiced. He demanded perfection during practice. That is what made his name synonimus with excellence. That is why we see Quincy Jones and Phill Collins in the same video, together. Excellence only hangs with excellence. BTW, the concert he was practicing for in Houston in the 90's, Was awesome. Unforgetable!👍👍👍👍
This is beyond music!!! This is another world!!!
Growing up, when I'd talk to pop/rock band musicians the music many really loved was jazz. Phil had his pop day but shows here he has serious drum and jazz big band skills.
Great to see Daryl participating, lovely and smiling all the way throughout ❤️
What a spectacle 🤟🤟🤟
Phil is one of my heroes
Not many people know that word
Quite incredible. Phil Collins is a superb drummer and every one of the soloists in his Big Band is a top-class international player. A truly wonderful performance by everyone on stage. Video direction and mixing leave something to be desired, but at least this amazing performance is on record for the future.
yeah a great souvenir .... i was seat on front next to Bette Midler .....what a pleasure this show
So nice... 👌💗 All of these musicians are simply awesome... And Phil is my hero! It's a shame that the most people know him just as a pop star. I love him the most with GENESIS. ♥
God bless Phil Collins.
I never knew my boy phil did this! Its fantastic! Really good! That trumpet player?? wow!!
The guy has been playing trumpet in Phil's shows since the 80s.
All amazing musicians, but the trumpet solo was my favorite of all. Great stuff.
Bravo 🎉!!!!
absolutely incredible music. Had not PG left probably G would have never produced this timeless masterpiece. Thank god he left, thank god!!! I love the Mexican trumpet twist, Los endos opens to so many variations on the theme, I never forget the first time I listened to it in 1975 WOW!! It is definitely the piece I listen with much pleasure and it always puts me in a good mode. Thanks for broadcasting it!!!
Sensational! Just the best. I crank this all the way up.
Phil just makes that look way too easy!
I truly want to show this amazing video to all my friends but just few of them really appretiate good music. And this is a masterpiece.
The Cuban Percussionist Luis Conte is amazing!!!!!
Phil Collins
@@SPAZZOID100 Yeah what about him?
El mejor baterista del planeta 🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👏
I never stop playing this video I love it
I'm a 73 yr old musician and all I can say is .... WOW
Wow.... That has blown me away... Great composition.... Great Master great musicians... 👌....
I know this is an old video, but Harry Kim is a damn monster. His range and tone is truly sick.
Incredible... WOW!
Phil you are great I will
Faaaaaantastic!!
Phenomenal!!! Collins shines like a bright star
Beautiful. Phil Collins is so under estimated, as a drummer, composer, leader it's criminal. Because he was successful. Go figure. He's great!
umm.. I'm pretty sure he's not. Every person and every musician knows what a phenomenal talent he is. Drummer, singer, composer, producer, hit songs, hit records.. Brand X, played on Hackett's albums, Robert Plant's.. had EWF's horn section for one of his albums. Yeah.. definitely not underrated.
@@waltzguy14151 I read interviews with him where he was tired and hurt of being critically maligned, which becomes commonplace for popular artists. That is wrong but it often occurs. Got your back Phil!
@@waltzguy14151 most people simply know him for his pop career, they don't know about any of his other stuff
@@mattekudasai8249 His pop fans probably haven't even heard of Brand X. He's a great musician. Minimal formal training, doesn't read music, but either did Buddy Rich. Not comparing him to Buddy, just making a comment.
Who else, could drive a world famous rock band, then proceed to an iconic solo career, then suround himself with exceptional musicians for a nasty-ass big band extravaganza directed by Quincy Jones? PHIL COLLINS!! Talent and musicianship doesn't get better than this folks! Love from Montréal! ♥️
Phil has pretty good taste in music and musicians!
Such a badass group here.
Wow, just, wow!
Phils power driving the whole ensemble.
If only they had done a version of "Fading Lights", we may have all ascended to heaven.
Fading Lights really doesn't translate to jazzy big band....
Недолюбливаю биг-бэнды, но это просто высший класс! Восторг до мурашек по коже!
Quincy, thank you so much for sharing this and for making the world a more beautiful place ❤
Wow! Bravo Phil and friends! Bloody marvellous!
VERY VERY GOOD MUSICIAN MR.PHIL ! and very good session musicians ! I LOVE SINCE 1969 !
They all looked like they were having a blast doing this! So cool!
Quincy Jones !👏👏👏
I love Phil has never been afraid to battle with the best drummers alive (and there were not much) and even had big fun to compete with them in a friendly respectful way
Great success!
Phil doesn't read music. He had to learn and remember all the hits and changes to Quincy's arrangement on the fly. Phil's a phenomenal musician.
HOLY CRAP!!!
Luis Conte on percussion! I used to see him play with different jazz artists/groups around the Los Angeles area in the 90s.
Incredible version !! Love it
I wish Phil had played this drumkit with Genesis - it sounds beautiful... so much more musical than the single headed thing he just stuck with from around '78 on...
still love your work!!
Forgot that they did this. What a gem!
Man...were they ever working it!!!...Even Quincy Jones conducting was giving it his all!!! Amazing..I have never seen this before. The musicianship on this was truly wonderful. Lots of hard work I bet. Must have been a joy for Quincy to conduct all those fabulous musicians!!!
WONDERFUL DRUMS!!great musicians!!!
