- The Crusaders were one of the pioneers of Jazz-Funk music in the seventies and have made a number of visits to Montreux over the years. This DVD focuses on their performance from 2003 when the band were touring in support of their album "Rural Renewal". Founder members Joe Sample and Wilton Felder were joined in the line-up by long standing friend Ray Parker Jr on guitar and by the inimitable Randy Crawford on vocals. They delivered a set that spanned their career from early days up to their latest album capped with a stunning nine minute plus performance of their classic "Street Life" and finished off with a fun rendition of Ray Parker Jr's "Ghostbusters".

That's what Jazz is about ! Noone plays for himself. They all play to others..this produces the stuff
Sometimes sadly I forget there was a time when Extremely talented Musicians walked the Earth & were appreciated.
WORD!!! SO MUCH talent has "left the building" and they are soooooo missed.
Most definitely. The good book says redeeming the days of old.
@@DebraHammondpop2 And Montreux is the most beautiful place on the planet to see such a wonderful concert. Lake Geneva, a stone throw away, the French Alps in the background with a cool lake breeze moving through the Concert Hall.

On keys, the Maestro Mr Joe Sample (RIP) and killing the vocals, the Legendary Randy Crawford, and on rhythm guitar, Mr Ghost-buster himself, Mr Ray Parker Jr... Pure Ear-Sex oozing off this stage!!! Back when music, lyrics and talent were your only way to get a ticket to ride this journey called "MUSIC"!!! Thank you one and all... : )
Randy Crawford has that one in a million voice, so lucid and strong, pair that with Joe Sample, Wayne Henderson on trombone, and Wilton Felder on sax and it can't be beaten. Thank you.
Listen to her sing 🎤 imagine by Lennon
Yes ! Yes! 🙌🏽
Is this Randy Crawford ? Title of vidéo does not tell.
Mrs Crawford is a legend nuff said this song will stand the test of time
After I moved, I find Randy What a presence. Just out of town , ♂♀
There will never be another Randy Crawford. Brilliant!
True!!
She filled a lot of lonely nights.
I absolutely agree !!!
Never Or a group like the Jazz Crusaders
I was only 14 when I first heard this song on the radio back home in Brazil. I'm 55 now and it still gives me goosebumps. Randy's voice is heavenly ♡♡♡

é una meraviglia
The same as you Louise except that I was 18, mi first job working at Mc Donalds, I was alone in the lobby in the cleaning process before the opening and came Randy Crawford's voice and Joe's keyboard solo and saxophone solo and my life changed forever !! as said Claudio é una meraviglia !
This performance is close to perfection. 😍
This song almost bring tears because it reminds me when I was in my drug addiction and I was living that street life. By the grace of a power greater then me I'm no longer in that street life.
God bless you. You made it
BY THE GRACE OF GOD you are no longer in the streets...So many are still there and we should lift them up in prayer. I don't know your proxinamy but know there will be someone that will put you in her prayers every day' May God continue to bless you. BTW your name is easy for me to remember I'm married to a Michael but I bet you are not as loquacious as he is....I pretend sleep some time just to shut him up...(smile)

Stay strong and healthy my friend
42 thumbs down how do you not like this song it’s brilliant all these artists are amazing thank you so much for all the upload it’s really good it’s brilliant thank you
Sometimes musitians and writers don't hear about the impact of their talent and hard work. This song helped me get out of the gutter in 1987 when I was ripping and running in the streets of "brick city" NWK . The lyrics are spot on and the music holds your attention so you can listen to the lyrics. Thank you Randy and the crusaders for helping me turn my life around.....
That touched my heart. Peace to you.
Bravo from Germany 👏👏🖖🇩🇪🖖
I’m from Newark too. Born in 86. Blessings to you.
The one and only beautiful Randy Crawford❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Street Life!!
Randy Crawford's voice is one of the sweetest soul voices ever.
Saw them in 2004. It was the last concert my wife attended before she started chemotherapy. I had always wanted to see them, it was a wish come true. Not all wishes come true and not all prayers are answered the way you them to be. She passed away and so every time I hear this song, I think of that night and that life. Thank you Crusaders for giving us so much great music and great memories! Randy, Joe, Ray and Wilton where great. RIP Candy, Joe and Wilton.

All that means that she's still with you and will forever be.qqq
My Dad raised me on The Crusaders........ and Thank You, Dad! He was a jazz drummer in the Rochester, NY area for many years before succumbing to RA. Bless you, Dad! and the Crusaders!
日本人です。父親が今年64歳になります。青春の音楽として継承しました。クルセイダースは素晴らしいジャズバンドです。私は24は歳になります。
いい24歳ですね。いいものも いい青春も よく継承しました❤
It just gets no better than this, Randy's voice is unique and Joe and the band are simply the best musicians on the planet. Bought this album on vinyl Christmas '79. Been with me ever since. Thank you!
Randy.Crawford flawless voice made this song the greatest. ❤❤
Even after 24 years, she has not missed a note!!! They slowed the rhythm a bit, switched keyboard lines with the horns but still the same otherwise. Still nostalgic . . . RIP JS.
Absolutely Devine🙏✨✨ Ms.Crawfords voice, Sublime.
The impeccable Randy Crawford. No one sings this tune better than she does. I don't care how many times it gets remade
I've tried listening to some of the "covers." I can't, not with this. Randy Crawford is untouchable in this.
I had the privilege of watching the Crusaders turn into the musical force they still are. Sipping orange soda in their pops garage watching them rehearse!! DAMN!
That must have been in the fifth ward in Houson....I lived there in the fifties... Great band !!
Are you from New Orleans?... Also did Larry Carlton start off with them
What a memory! I envy you SO much!
Wow. My father Peter Mokonotela, band leader of Afro Jazz band Elites Swingsters in Soweto used to love Randy Crawford's music. On a second note is that Wilton Felder?...Wow!!!!!....... wow!!!!!
That is indeed Wilton Felder.
Randy Crawford, WOW!!! KILLING IT!!!
This song BELONGS to Randi Crawford and the incredible musicians !
Randy Crawford so underrated Awesome voice
Trult unsung!
only underrated by the masses. People who know their shit know that this is one of the most awesome voices ever!!! And a wonderful person too! Randy for ever!!!
@@wolfiesownx4893 I couldn't agree with you more! What's ironic is that Randy is treated like music royalty everywhere else in the world except in the USA 🤷

Randy Crawford has the best voice! No one can duplicate her magic tone.
No superlatives can convey just how good this song & performance are. A timeless classic that I will never grow tired of hearing.
Very well said!!! 👌
Randy Crawford, fan bloody tastic, saw her first concert in London 40 odd years ago, came on wearing like wedding dress, so shy, and then the voice came "WOW"!!!! Crusaders , pure!!!
I saw her with the Crusaders in London forty years ago as well.
RIP joe S...crusaders music saved my young life...had their cd's on night shift driving taxi in Dublin for 20 years..
fookin dublin mate ... great dirty ol town
I was driving home from work one day and then it suddenly hit me… the difference between music from the 60’s 70’s 80’s and now. The music doesn’t give joy or life. It doesn’t have joy or pep or original attitude. At least not much. Truly the golden era of music was over long ago
I was a young teenager growing up in Brooklyn NY 1975 when I first was introduced to the Crusaders .. This was a favorite song that I listen too all the time
Randy Crawford Lady of Jazz and Soul
Still can`t get over the unique sound of Wilton Felder.
Incredible track.....just beautiful. I had the US Import on 12" in 1979 when I was 21....never looked back. Great music....
this is a MAN'S SONG, can't apologize cause there is no room, believes and celebrate
2023: Dedicated to the Streetlife all around the world!

Street Life!!! The unique vocals of Randy Crawford. This brings back great memories of music that made you happy and so grateful to be alive!
I was dancing everywhere when this lovely song came, its pure balance, Randy´s voice incomparable, Crusaders metals as well, everything is perfect
Now this is real music...loved this song since childhood.
This is a wonderful song. i've been lucky to see Randy and Joe sample live on a number of occasions and they are stunning
My dream would be to see her live . Hoping one day she does Australia 🇦🇺
Still praying for the day that I can see Randi & the Crusaders live!! RIHP Joe!!! Great Emperor of The Piano! 🙏 💘 🎶 😍 🎷 ✝ 👗 👡 👩 👨 💃
The singer has such a tremolo in the voice that that voice is recognizable out of thousands of female singers
I saw them twice at The Newport, RI Jazz festivals in the late 70's. Their performances were beyond words. Truly great and innovative musicians. RIP Joe Sample and Wilton Felder. I never realized that Joe did a lot of keyboard work with Steely Dan in the day. That's his great solo you hear on the song "Black Cow" from Aja.
Hey just lays my boots on Joe,I didn't know that .
This is real music
Leon Green because some others are not indeed !!!!
Indeed!!!
Probably the best vocal AND instrumental solo JAZZ song ever recorded!
Introducing the Great Empress of Jazz, Ms. Randi Crawford!! 👑 🌎 💘
I went to high school in LA with Stix Hooper’s youngest brother. We used to listen to them rehearsing in their father’s garage! That was before this tune changed their lives.
Lucky you!
Just went back to LA last summer for my 50th class reunion. Saw allot of wonderful people !!

No one can sing that song but her...PERIOD!

You are absolutely correct - Randy Crawford is so unique in her delivery!!!
Her TONE IS MOST DEFINITELY UNIQUE! We ain't never had ANYONE TO sang like that, before OR SINCE!
Unique to Randy. Full stop.
Certain singers just OWN certain songs. This one is hers. Period. Forget it.
I.M.H.O. The GREATEST BAND in the history of recorded MUSIC. LEGENDARY RIP to the Crusaders who've transitioned. I saw this line up. WOW. Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, The Homie Ray Park, Ready Freddie Washington, the two youngster, Man what a night.
Love Randy Crawford. Great voice.
I've lost my driver's license in order to be able to watch this concert that day (trying to escape the traffic jam at Lausanne's highway, driving backwards on the security lane).
As I was used to the original sound of "Sticks Hooper" on my dad's LP's, I was a bit disappointed by the "young drummer" filling in many open spaces in the fills and breaks, etc... Time has passed, and today I appreciate simply having been able to live all of this (such as Claude Nobs' delightful English accent...) ;-)
This is such a wonderful song no matter what age you are it will stay with you forever you won’t forget ever.
First heard this in college forty years ago. Unforgettable then. Unforgettable now. An absolute timeless classic.
Great live rendition - captures Randy's intensity best!!!
The Joe the winten and Hupa with super baby Randy I love them
can there be anything better than this music, performance, voice? No. Perfection of art
Intramontabile canzone interpretata da una cantante fantastica.
Randy Crawford on vocal and Joe Sample on Rhodes- what a timeless sound
What a great performance !! Randy Crawfords voice touches the soul every time :)

Mann You can pick up on randy voice in any song, her vocals are priceless
Her voice is outstanding,
Some of the greatest musicians ever, Ray Parker on guitar, Freddie Washington on bass, Wilton Felder on sax, Wilton Felder played bass on so many early Jackson Five hits. Joe Sample on keys!

We all had a Street Life.....the Best
you just cannot beat a live performance, good bad or indifferent.
Even after all these years, the opening lines to this song, especially as Randy Crawford delivers them, still break me. Because I know too many people to whom they apply.
Greg I'm with you. I know a bit about some street life. The crackheads version of street life. I know about different parts of the street life and The Nightlife overall. And it's a blessing to not be that anymore. It's a blessing to be the one that walks in the night telling folks that there is hope in Jesus Christ to come out of what you are in.
@@DRLEWIS amen!
I am also moved by the song, thinking of a past life as a Heroin addict but delivered by The Holy Spirit and the laying on of hands. Jesus is real. I have never been back.
