There's very little I understand about Jazz... except that it reaches me in a way other types don't. Totally agree about seeing the world differently! ✌️♥️
@@Mark-pp7jy Here's a brief lesson about how to "understand" jazz. First, understand that there are only two types of music in the world: Jazz; and all the other music in the world. Jazz is as much a language or form of personal expression as it is music, and, like a fine scotch whiskey, it is an acquired taste, requiring "educating" your mind to accept it like you "educate" your taste buds to ultimately "understand" scotch. Simply stated, and without going into the construct of jazz, try to hear each musician as expressing his extemporaneous feelings in that moment, operating freely but always within the space, tempo and melody that the song provides. When you see and hear a musician taking a solo within the song's structure, try to listen to the rhythm section keeping time and the context of the melody and then try to imagine yourself playing that solo by stepping inside the soloists head and trying to feel rather than simply hear what he is expressing as part of himself and his feelings in the moment. Jazz is maleable and lends itself to many of its own forms as well as other genres of music, simply because it is an expression of feelings as much as it is an independent form of music. Try listening to this piece maybe three times consecutively to get the gist of what I am saying: It is extremely complicated the first time you hear it, but if you listen to it again and once again, you will get over the newness and the challenge of understanding it and find a level of profound enjoyment for what is going on on that stage and how it can change what you are feeling as well. Play special attention to the underlying tune and beat which continues in the backgroud throughout. It showcases the God of All Music, Miles Davis. Use speakers or audiphones to enjoy deeply. And good luck. czcams.com/video/O51U38Y3gIE/video.html
I get what you mean, but there were and are always Jazz "experts" critics, who say this is jazz and this not jazz.. that is what they did for example with Miles Davis with his 70s and especially 80s stuff, which I love the most..Miles also always said Jazz is a white man term.. pretty funny
@@leobulero3485 The problem is that the so-called "experts" tend to identify the type of Jazz that they grew up with as the true form of Jazz. What they don't realilze - or care to admit - is that Jazz is more than just a musical form; it is a language unto itself and, even more, is a "vibe" that can easily translate into other genres of music...Latin Jazz, Brazilian Jazz, Acid Jazz, etc. In short, Jazz is a profound sense of "soul"and is not limited to any specific era or expression. I hear Jazz in some Country music (the Allman Brothers' "Whipping Post"), in Marc Anthony's salsa, in Ivan Lins's Bossa Nova, in Buika's and Joan Manuel Serrat's flamenco and Spanish music, and in the Motown and R&B of Marvin Gaye, all for example. In short, you can "feel" Jazz as much or more than hear it and when you arrive at that spiritual level of emotional understanding, you can more fully appreciate what I wrote in my initial post above. Listen with your heart, not your ears or your head. If you can deeply appreciate Miles' and Coltrane's "Round About Midnight" and have an equally profound appreciation for Miles's "Tutu," you have arrived.

Amazing! The intro is a marriage of great musicianship and stunning digital tech. Notice you're hearing what sounds like a soprano sax...but it's being played by keyboardist Federico Pena on a Yamaha VL synth; also notice he's wearing a breath controller which he's using to modulate and add even more realism and dynamics to that soprano sax sound. And that synth (VL-1/7) he's playing does NOT use samples. He's playing a computer-generated physical model of a soprano sax. And the Yamaha VL synths came out in 1994 I think. It's a mind-blowing instrument. If you think that soprano sax model is good you'd be even more stunned by the other instrument models it recreates. Amazing all round.

Oh my my!! that's a lot of talent and raw skill on one stage. From a thunder bassist, the synthesizer guru, a keyboard wizard, a drummer extraordinaire and an alto saxophonist.
Pure bliss! They just don't make jazz fusion/smooth jazz like this anymore! Their signature sound: inimitable! Miller, Sanborn and Duke, you guys are forever more legends!
We ALL know how talented these 3 are..but that drummer....gotta give him love and respect as well! Gave that kit a workin over...and with perfect timing. Fantastic performance...thanks for uploading!
Luis Kato is the drums Player You can see Him with Jhon Scofield i will find the performance and You will see how excellent Person He is ....
please See this performance starting at 9m50 sec -Jungle fiction ? Luis Cato is ... no words i have to explain my feelings... Enjoy !!
@@mcwalt1959 Scofield Uberjam Band...yep, you are so right..Kato is killing it. Thank you for the recommendation waldemar!! Appreciated. I checked him out after seeing this. The guy can also play a bass guitar ALMOST as well as Marcus here, believe it or not. AND a great singer as well. Plays trombone too, lol! Multi talented musician for sure. Check his bass solo on "Vet Back" . And singing skills on "Luis Cato at Schaffhausen". Think you'll enjoy.
@@mcwalt1959 One of the best performances ever, he's an amazing drummer! He throws a stick in the middle of his solo, without skipping a beat picks up another like nothing happened.
Takes me straight back to years ago, visiting the North Sea Jazz Festival in my home town, The Hague every year. The best NSJF venue, year in, year out, and after-partying at the Bel Air next door. Never went to the NSJF again after they took it to Rotterdam.
Rest in peace, David Sanborn, thanks for your great musical contribution to this world and many good memories
At 63 this is the music of my life. Blend of melody, chops, tight, and tethered energy!
The "Dukey Stick" does it for me everytime! Damn...he was sooo good.
Easily the best version of this ever, mindblowing Duke Sanborn Miller and that drummer Louis Cato is sick.

I don't know what to say! Words can't explain how l feel!
I am 74 and for me these guys are one of the best generation in jazz
George Duke that loved the brazilian music is for sure playing in another world
That is life
David Sandborn’s performance at the end is out of this world….

Couldn’t imagine a more magical trio. All three of them are absolutely brilliant.
3 greats on the same stage, and I'm in love again;) RIP George Duke
funkyswede62 ...To watch this knowing it will never happen again, brings tears.
funkyswede62 u.
Three giants on stage. Such a magic collaboration between them. A joy to listen to.
At its FINEST!!!!! Such PERFECTION....souls alive with what it takes!!
I will have seen and above all heard it, 1 million times, one of these, now ... Wonderful.
I've listened to this one hundred times, and every time since it sounds better and better. Fantastic arrangement and beautiful music.
Yeahhh. That's my feeling man. Always better.
Thanks a million Trevor much appreciated, indeed!!
@@UltimateForceMarketing I studied music production and interned at one of my professors' music store. I got sent to Yamaha MI (musical instrument) clinics, even. I like doing synth programming and sound design, so I'm geeked up by this stuff, lol.
Thank you, I was wondering who the keyboardist was.
@@trevorwoodley3897 yeah, but after that, the volume is too low for keys, the typical of 2000s concert, keyboard or synth is too low
Thank you Lord for the ability to hear and enjoy these fine musicians.
Dave,your sound is forever.
Your sounds gave me lots of happy. thanks!
