    Persona: Trinity Soul is a Japanese anime television series. It is a spin-off of the PlayStation 2 game Persona 3, taking place ten years after the game's events.
    Produced by Aniplex and animated by its subsidiary A-1 Pictures, the series aired in Japan on Tokyo MX from January 5 to June 28, 2008. It also features music by Taku Iwasaki. In February 2010, NIS America announced it would broadcast the series in North America with the original Japanese dub. According to the official Persona 3 Portable fanbook, Trinity Soul is considered to be an alternative entry in the series.

      @@samuelmachado8330 lol, see this is why I don't think it contradicts things. P3's MC is seeing losing a bit of control over his persona during the opening, and the SEES peeps have a unique condition to summon their personas into the real world. Meanwhile both P4 and P5's cast only seem to be able to tap into their power when already within the metaverse, which seems like a major element being overlooked, considering it's akin to Lucid Dreaming while you're active there. Even in the battle game, the Metaverse came to the real world in a Dark-Hour style field of influence. It should also be notable that even though 'growing out' of your persona might be something that can happen, Adachi was a bit of a two sided nutjob, not sure who he wanted to be when it came to justice or evil, and that could play a massive role in him utilizing a persona, since he's often hiding who he is.
      As for P2, they are ALSO trapped inside a sphere of influence created by Nyarlthotep, which simultaneously enables the use of their collective unconscious as a persona. So the pieces fall into place comfortably.

    Adults being able to use Personas normally has been a thing since Persona 1. In fact, I'm pretty sure Persona 3 is the only mainline Persona game that doesn't feature at least one Persona user in their twenties or higher. Actually, it's persona 2 itself that contradicts trinity soul, since there are more than a character in their 20 that can use persona without problem. And persona 2 too they just summon persona, there's no trauma gun card masks or facing true self, so all of these things were already in persona 2. Still, this anime is good, and without some of these contradictory details could be canon without problem

      The reason the characters from Persona 2 have personas is a bit more complicated in nature than the later games. The characters in Persona 1 and 2 were chosen by Philemon directly, whereas in 3 onwards the MCs sign contracts in some way which means they had an option to opt out, instead of the role being forced on them. The other characters in P3 use evokers or similar methods, but it's only possible because of the dark hour, but P4 and P5 the MC gets their ability before any of their other teammates and in P4 the other 2 that are given the ability also shook hands with Izanami and in P5 only Joker and Akechi where given abilities because of Yaldaboath

    As far as Persona 4 contradicting Trinity Souls, I would say that Arena explains that fairly well actually. The P3 crew are shocked to sed the P4 crew summon their personas without using an exterior device (evoker), whereas the P4 crew are stunned when they learn that the P3 crew can use their personas outside of the TV world. In other words, each incurson of shadows is unique and the effects on the persona users alters to the specific incursion. P3 needs invokers to summon but can do so even outside of Tartarus, P4 needs no such devices but are limited to the TV world, P5 must rip a mask off of their face (which looks bloody painful) and seemingly are relegated to palaces.

      P5 can only use their personas in the Metaverse as Personas are manifestations of their personalities and the Metaverse is a world where cognitions come to life. That's why when they defeat the final boss and the Metaverse connection severs so does their access to their costumes and personas.

    • @lemonov3031

      Wrong. Evoker is an external summoning device, making it possible to use a persona anywhere with no trouble, while the TV world influence has a special atmosphere which makes the summoning possible. That's why P3 characters don't use evokers when they are in the TV world as well. In P1/P2 it was made possible as normal via Philemon's power, who was weakened by the time of P3 and onward.

    Here's why I think Shadow Extraction makes one euphoric. The Shadow, according to Carl Yung, is the self, that is understandable to society, you don't want anyone to see. If you let out the shadow, like in counseling or writing it in a journal, it feels good, like you lifted a weight off your chest. That's the sense of euphoria. Yes, the Shadow may be a deviant, I get that! Letting it out where it doesn't harm anyone is the key to balancing the Shadow and the Persona.

      The Nyarlohothep trilogy has Philemon unlock people's access to their personas after being summoned during the Persona game (also the same reason why everyone has access to the Velvet Room, not just the Fool). I believe Philemon & Nyarlohothep agreed to leave humanity alone after EP, but I'm not sure because I haven't played it. Persona 3 onward has had characters limited to 1 Persona each (aside from the Fool), often with complications or limitations, so the nature of acquisition had changed so equating Persona usage with age was not unreasonable for the time.
      I would dispute that Persona 4's killer necessarily negates this theory since their Persona is granted to them by a divine entity, although Zenkichi Hasegawa from Persona 5 Strikers would, given he awakens to Valjean as an adult.

    This was probably a mixture a little too much shaken for the player of an IP that just got out of indie and waltzed right into mainstream. (Of course the full process happened after P5 but at that moment Atlus made a breakthrough).

    I think the reason for Shin not being included in the 25th merch along side the other 7 protagonist is one may think it's because many people hated this and declared it non canon, similar to the changes made for the Persona 3 stage and anime adaptations (With the bit you mentioned about Kanaru, the bit you said "How familiar...", that's only in the Persona 3 stage plays and movies, in the game, Yukari is actually the canon love interest and the game would give big hints about it, even making it a big plot element in The Answer), but in one video I saw, it's actually because Atlus doesn't really own the rights to Trinity Soul surprisingly. Also, one thing I'd like to point out is that recently all the Persona animes were all shown in this one source in this marathon in a Japanese stream service as one of the announcements for the September announcement, even Trinity Soul was featured in there, despite Shin not even being featured at all in any of the 25th anniversary merch. So, that's pretty much the only time Trinity Soul got any sorta attention for the 25th Anniversary of Persona celebration so far. I'm really hoping this would get a reboot where it would feature elements from future Persona games like 4 and 5 while still being more of a Persona 3 sequel as well as fix up a lot of the issues. Also, someone actually told me that Trinity Soul actually introduced a few elements that the Persona 4 Arena games would use.

      @@Mageman17 It's not the amount of animators who worked on a series, it depends on the priority given within the season lineup. That's what determines where the animation is done.
      Nowadays, an anime's animation quality depends on whether it was drawn directly in-studio or outsourced to a sister branch of said studio (be it in Japan or overseas).
      For example, Sailor Moon Crystal S1-2 animation was outsourced to the Philippines, hence why the animation takes real sharp nosedives at times. Why do that for one of Toei's most iconic series? It's cost effective. They preferred to cut corners just to not spend much money.
      And now you know why P5A looks like sh*t at times.

    i wanna point out that before persona 4 atlus had a very different way of having you see the world and the mechanics of personas and i'm actually really sad it didn't stay like this. Both persona 3 and trinity soul have the characters taking drugs to keep their personas in check with only your group in persona 3 being any different. it paints having a persona as a massive burden and undertaking unlike having a pokemon or having a stand. when you think of having Star Platinum you think of being this action movie hero who punches shit till it dies with magical powers. if persona had kept going like this having a persona would almost always mean sacrificing so much of yourself and putting yourself through so much pain to use that no one would ever really want one. i kinda wish atlus kept it like that. now having a persona is just WOAH CHECK OUT THIS SUPER RAD POWER and not a topic that should be taken seriously like how most mega ten games handle things.

    So during my first watch of Kamen Rider Blade, there's an entire arc with Garren that's a giant anti-drugs message:
    It's basically "Don't do drugs, you'll isolate yourself from your friends and family and become dependant, and your Dollar Store M.Bison drug dealer will kill your girlfriend if you try to kick the habit."
    (Kamen Rider W's almost-entire schtick counts too, a lot of the early Dopants are basically addicts strung out on the effects of using Memory direct into their body to escape the issues in their lives)
    There's something about the early 00's public morals messaging in Japan that's just so unwieldy that it's almost comical.

  • @kjbionicle
    @kjbionicle Před 3 měsíci +2

    I know people love pointing out the contradiction of "adults can't summon personas" by talking about Adachi from P4 or the cast of P2: Eternal Punishment... But it's so often ignored what Kanaru says in one of the episodes about that. She says that she doesn't believe that adults actually lose their Persona's when they grow up, but subconsciously suppress because of this need to be "more adult". Not exactly what she says, but do forgive me it's been years since I watched this. Which means it's not that the Adachi or Maya shouldn't be able to summon Persona's... But more of that because of their psyche, mental state, or personality, they are able to summon one.
    Thing is, we should also look at the context as a whole as to why Trinity Soul even makes mention of this; And while this is slightly meta, it is supposed to explain why most if not almost all Persona users are teenagers. It's not that adults "can't", it's just that teenagers are more predisposed to have one. Teenage life is often some of the most hectic years when it comes to finding oneself. And a lot of teenagers focus on that and I think that is why they're more predisposed to have one. And that's why adults, kids, dogs, or even shadows being able to summon personas is an exceptional thing where it has a lot to do with either circumstance (like a traumatic event), or mentality.

    • @kjbionicle
      @kjbionicle Před 3 měsíci +1

      Additionally I like to think the reason Akihiko can't summon his Persona anymore is because in Trinity Soul he seems much more calm and collected; Which makes me want to think that he's been able to more or less move past his traumas, doesn't feel the need to overcompensate with his brawn anymore, and is in a stable moment in his life. And since he's a cop now, has also subconsciously fallen into putting up a more "society-approved" outward Persona. Aaaaaaand maybe that's why Akihiko seems "not like himself" or "boring" in TS. He's just grown up. And sometimes being grown up is boring and mundane.
      Losing your Persona doesn't always have to be a thing imo. Might just mean you don't need it anymore.

    • @kjbionicle
      @kjbionicle Před 3 měsíci +1

      The "adults" needing to take drugs to keep using their Persona's feel like a rather heavy handed way of representing needing medication for mental illness due to trauma that as an adult they still haven't been able to move past. Not sure how I feel about that but just what I think it might mean based on other points made in the video and heavy handed metaphors.

    It's been a WHILE since I watched the anime so I may be be forgetting it, but you not mentioning it in the video also makes me think it wasn't really a thing in the anime.
    But Personas and Shadows are deeply routed in Psychology and what have you (As I'm sure most people know)
    But the idea of a piece of Persona fiction that doesn't involve that or acknowledge it feels like someone saw the cliffnotes of Persona 3 and just went "Oh okay, they are kinda like personal pokemon, got it." Missing the whole point of that they meant and what shadows and ego mean nether, which is something that is a through line throughout the whole series (With Persona 3 Journey arguably being the one with the weakest ties to this.)
    I get why the show was made non-canon not due to the plot or characters or anything like that, it's mainly because it feels like it missed one of the main theme of what the persona games have in common, being the relationship between Personas and Shadows and the effect that can have on a person and the people around them along with the collective unconscious.
    All that being said, great video~
