At first I actually think he's hust another Yuki due to this scene... and by the time school trip rolls I already see have rough idea of his possible personality ; either a deadpan serious teachers pet or deadpan serious jokesters
He totally left out the part on Yu complimenting Chie's legs from the anime. That was as close as her being the canon romance as we might get.

@@doralopez734 The persona 4 anime played a big part on how fans of the game view it, persona 5 the animation was just bad in the opinion of most
I'd say the Persona 4 game was more for the players experience and choices (Characters relay a little more on you for their development), whereas the Persona 4 anime was for the characters and story (Episode 4 is a pretty good example for what I mean. If you can't then, characters develop themselves, vs relaying on you to max them out their development)

Well Ren/Akira has two different names in the anime and the manga so it's difficult to refer to him by his name, personally I just call him Joker because at least people won't be arguing.
I'm still disappointed Joker didn't have a proper personality in the anime while Yu had, self-insert blank characters are okay in video games but not in anime or mangas. I also think Joker had the potential to be an interesting, complex character so I wish they didn't just made him a self-insert for the player.

In fairness, I think a lot of his chad actions and decisions are available to you in the game, and a good chunk of them do actually give you the best bonuses. We are basically watching a perfect playthrough of the game played out in full with the grindy bits removed, and the result is something special.
He´s still a weirdo in Arena. Let´s remember that scene in Arena where Elizabeth enters in the room. She destroys the ceiling and what was Yu´s reaction?: "What the h...? why does she enters by the ceiling instead of using the door??" instead of being worried about that someone has destroyed the ceiling like if it was made of cookie. The fact of making that comment twice only reinforce that our boy is weird.
About the chad part... the anime is just a collection with the funniest/troll answers in game. We have option of kissing Teddie or even flirt with a police office.

Especially after playing P3/P5, Yu is the perfect protagonist for this type of game. Confident, compassionate, and upbeat, with a splash of cockiness and awkwardness. I love that the dialogue options you unlock with Guts usually make the people around you cringe, so it's like Yu is learning to be himself despite how people react. GOD P4 is so good...
I also love his default pose. It's much easier to get engaged when he seems to care as well.
Even Rise cringes at him at one point. You'd think that she'd be open to all his bullshit but immediately calls him out lol
it really helps that in the anime they made an effort to make narukami his own character. i like ren and makoto to an extent but their characterization begins and ends with their tragic backstories, and they dont show much of their character in their shows or mangas all that much. narukami has really good character moments in his spinoffs that really drive home that he's his own character first, and a self insert second at this point
And also they made narukami the most selfless and kind being in the universe. The anime has a bunch of emotional moments that made me shed a tear.
seems fitting knowing that narukami is the only protagonist with a name that everyone solidly agrees with, ren/akira and makoto/minato names feels a bit less defined and gets switched from time to time.

Honestly, Yu is what I aspire to be if I wasn’t so flawed; I can’t keep a straight face for long, I get flustered whenever someone asks if I’m dating a friend who happens to be a girl, and I’m not as confident in my abilities in certain categories, but somehow I still maintain kindness for (some) others, and some of my friends look up to me. I dunno, I still like Narukami as a protagonist, probably because 4 was one of my favorites

The anime adaptation was my first proper exposure to P4's story, and I absolutely fell in love with Yu on first watch. He's now my second favorite character, just behind Yosuke (who is simply best boy).

Makotos I definitely mine. His sadness and feelings for his friends, but then closes up and is scared for his good times to end because he knows it will soon. I honestly love how relatable he is for me
All the Wild Card users are amazing, but Yu just exudes some unique atmosphere. It is hilarious that his animation personality can be a bit . . . special at times as well.

What about the guys? He is so chad that not only the girls fall for him. We have moments like:
- Yosuke blushing and panicking during the group date cafe after asking who would they choose as boyfriend (the question was for the girls but that doesn´t stops the chad, Yosuke was going to be a romance partner until Atlus canceled it).
- He was ready to kiss and glomp Teddie in Golden (animation included) just because Teddie asked to teach him.
- Some Kanji comments like that Yu was starting to look beautiful if he uses the drag costume
- "You mean it would really tickle your fancy to hang around an old man like me?" - the oldman in Samegawa that asks if he would take walks with him during in the night
- "There is a nice inn here with hot springs, do you want to go there and spend a night with me?" - Shirouku hostess (yes is a woman but scary as F, her comments are changing from time in time)
- The policeman in Okina during the close up operation, he gets nervous if Yu asks for his number
- The cat in Okina during the same operation, the fking cat!!
I´m starting to understand Izanagi´s crotch piece...
