- A way to check if there are Existing codes - you will not get the codes this way, only find out if there are codes set. How to interpret:
DTC SET - a code is set for this module (the module may have a problem)
CHECKING - an additional procedure is needed to verify if codes are set for this module
READY - no code is set for this module (everything fine)

Actually TCM stands for Transmission Control Module.
And controls pretty much everything surrounding the Automatic, Volvos with Manual transmission does not have this control module.
@AngryPostmanSthlm2 I mean, I'm a mechanic who has pretty much learned on Volvo's (worked 2 years as an apprentice Volvo mechanic).
Also growing up with friends and relatives working at Volvo Torslanda, has also done a lot when it comes to just how much of a Volvo nerd I am.

Hi, thanks for your video, I have several of these codes in my list and a lot of them show dtc set. I also bought a OBD II diagnostic tool, but it couldn't find any errors. Is there any way to reset these DTC codes in the menu and why doesn't the diagnostic tool show them ?

I really like your videos. You make things easy to understand. I was hoping you could tell me if there is a way to determine if the yaw sensor or clock spring is causing the "antiskid temp off" message to appear. I do have a used clock spring but I hate to just swap out the one in the car if that is not the issue. Thanks
Can't help because I don't think there is a way to test the clock spring. For the yaw, it fails when it gets wet so perhaps look for traces of water/rust. Here's a few links with 'leads', my take is to get used parts from a junkyard, try them, and return if the message doesn't go away. It's the cheapest way. The clock spring isn't that bad, more difficult is to remove some steering wheels, I think I have a video how to set a new clock spring.

It is dry bones under the amplifier. I am getting some random turn signal issues. I think I will go ahead and do a swap with the clock spring I recently picked. As you know, it is easy to swap. Thanks
@@bluebox212 Also check the axle bolts, these are single use and are known to loosen up and throw an Anti-Skid message

i have the EXACT same issue as bluebox212... and the turn signal was erratic too... i'm beginning to think, ours isn't a clockspring problem, but the "lever hub" that sits under the clockspring, and a contact isn't being cleanly made... for my anti-skid message is almost always on, but maybe once a month i notice its off. did you fix your issue ? if so, please tell me exactly how, and if a software update was needed thx.
Thanx for posting this! Good job! I have an 04 XC90 5 cylinder with a bunch of codes. Do these codes have to be resolved to pass a safety check? Could these codes be present because of bad communication/ corrosion under the wiper cowl with the connection to the computer?
The DTC screen is now scrambled eggs...but worked correctly when I got it.

I drove it after a heavy snowfall and the all wheel drive system IS working. The angle gear was replaced before the vehicle was given to me for free. I replaced the alternator and battery so far and cleaned it up.../did small repairs, interior, oil change - plugs etc. I stalled on finishing the job after seeing the DIM go screwy with all these codes. Don't know how to move forward with this yet. Your suggestion? It runs and drives fine - all the windows, 7 leather seats, sunroof, stereo, heated seats, all work good.
I got a TON of receipts with it so I totaled the maintenance/ repair invoices..they came to..are you ready? ..$49,313.00 including many tires, brakes etc and the angle gear was $2k alone.
That's a chunk of money, surely being all done at the main dealer. As for the display screen problem, it may be a faulty DIM unit - that's the dash or cluster. It goes bad on 02-03 S60's, not sure about the XC90. Ebay has repair services, a nearby TV shop may also do it - need to have the battery disconnected. From the list of codes, it appears to have an ECM which is the engine module (ECU), not sure why, there may be humidity at the bottom connector or the small cooling fan may be bad. But usually we want to clear all codes and see if anything comes back. That connector outside, under the cowl had a recall for water ingress, may try calling Volvo with the VIN see if already done.

I am looking at a 2006 xc90 that has been sitting for a few years, started once in a while but hasent got fluids changed for a while... any advice? It only has 150k
These will be kilometers ? Which engine ? If it's the gasoline 3.2, the early ones has issues with the R.E.A.D (expensive). If it's manual, the clutch slave cylinder gives up at about this time and it's very costly. Same with the AWD, if it's wasn't already repaired, chances are it no longer works. Sitting for longtime with drained battery can also cause difficult immobilizer start up issues. See my other video on the channel, with common S60 faults to get an idea about the other things that need fixed. Many will say the XC90 are great cars, but these do need money to keep running.

In my 2002 Volvo V70 I have a set code in my ECM And CEM And my Car Surges at 1500 Rpm and goes down to 1300 Rpm but won't go to 900 Rpm when I start my car it has the high start and drops down to 900 Rpm for 2 Minutes then it revs it's self up to 1500 rpm And holds it's self for a while then starts Surging between 1500 rpm and 1300 rpm what could be wrong with my 2002 Volvo V70 I plugged the vida Dice in and it says CEM ETM control module signal missing and CEM Module Shuts off and all my Gauges drop out and my Crude control doesn't work ether What could be wrong with my car

i would think to check the code before you skip buying a volvo if the ECM has DTC because you could check the codeand it it be something as simple as replacing a spark plug or ignition coil for under 100 dollars
Great video! I have a Volvo xc70 from 2001, the CCM is not working, no lights, no response, the fan still blows and the air will get warmer as the engine warms up. I checked the system like in your video and the car say: 'CCM NOT CHECKED'. Does this mean that the car cant read the CCM? Is it dead? or did the previous owner maybe replace the CCM with an incorrect module and the software is incorrect?
What do you think is the problem, and what can I do to fix it?

Possibly a swapped CCM from a year with a different software. May try getting a ged one from a 2001 off Ebay - check to have the same buttons everywhere and have the battery disconnected. I'm guessing it may also be a faulty temperature sensor (behind the small grid) but you need Video to check it. Careful because used one on sell may have this sensor already bad. @@OrangeCub14 I've seen on forums it didn't work indeed for several people, but there are also people who swaped with used one and it worked without programming, even sometimes with having different lower buttons. I have a silly question - why your car's dash is in orange and mine is in ugly green'ish? Is there a way to change the color? Green to orange? I have a Volvo S60 2009 2.0T (gen 1).
I put small T5 LED, this will work only on 2001-2003 dash. The problem is the cheap ones last only a few months and are also too dim in sunny light. Also most are difficult to fit behind the small display - they fit better behind the gauges
2005 Volvo S60, 3 messages, warning light but no check engine light. 0057 Power Supply, 0100 Communication between control units and 0103 Pedal position Sensor. Any suggestions on how to remove these codes? Thanks in advance.
Pedal position sensor is quite simple, it's the small black cylinder attached to the brake booster inside the engine bay. For the rest, can't speak, may be worth erasing the codes see if they come back, and maybe check the voltage at the battery and alternator.
@@Peppermint1 Thanks for the reply. I erased the messages by pressing trip button for 10 secs & holding the key in position 2. Today it shows 1 message and Alarm system service required. Also when I push the bake pedal down I hear a sound like air leaking from a tube.
@@HAMEEDUL The alarm siren module goes bad (has a small battery inside), can be disconnected (or just remove the fuse if there's one on the fuse panel near driver door, fuse 38). But the Alarm system message will come on at every car start. For the brake pedal, it may be the faulty brake booster seal, I did a few videos on this czcams.com/video/7m9Zwg7IbBw/video.html

Sometimes this is caused by worn out fluid - read up on forums about the fluid to use, risks about replacing it - better replace only 1/2 of it at once and try driving only inside the city for a few weeks. Then try clearing the code with a quality scanner - maybe a small garage can do it. If the code clears up, you are fixed, otherwise it may be some transmission internal issue. Be aware that the twin turbo XC90 2005 had a very fragile GM transmission - look up on google

You seem like a volvo expert so have you heard of this fault code nothing on forums. cem 6c48 transponder signal missing. I checked with my scantool and no keys are registered to the car im assuming i got to reprogram my keys. Nowhere online can i find a fix

@@SugeRealest The remote fob for the doors is read by a chip located in the cabin rear view mirror. The key transponder in the key for the ignition is read by the antenna ring on the tumbler while the codes are stored in the CEM - when a car is parked long term and the batter goes flat, sometimes the CEM looses these codes and no longer recognizes the keys (the engine will not crank). Volvo can try reprogramming the CEM

O posibilitate este problema la modulul de climatizare (CCM). Se poate arde un mic termistor ceea ce afecteaza unele operatii ale CCM-ului. Cauta "Volvo CCM thermistor", am si cateva filme cu asta
