  • Demolition of my rotten water logged 2000 Bayliner Boat. What you see on top is nothing compared to what's going on underneath. It was time to go for it. It was fun ripping out all the rotten wood! Hopefully I can rebuild it...

Such a great project. Sometimes it's best to strip out all the old and start fresh and new. Then you know what you have and because you put in all the effort you will go the distance to care for it and preserve it long into the future. Tinkering on old boats can be very rewarding. Thanks for sharing your project. I enjoy watching your perspective and learning how others approach repairs like this.

Just a heads up for anyone trying to remove the carpet in their boat, an oscillating tool with a smooth blade will zip right through the glue holding it down.

Great video as always Kurt! You were absolutely right in tearing out the box seats. You can't fix everything with a band-aid. Lots of work for sure, bit if it brings enjoyment and family time together in the end, it's definitely worth it! Besides that, it's nice to see someone actually fix something nowadays instead of just throwing it away and buying another ! Thanks for sharing, I look forward to each video!

Thanks John. It's been a learning experience. Way cheaper than a new boat. That's for sure

Use spray in truck bed liner to seal everything up. Coat underside of new floor pannels with bed liner first. After install, coat top side with more bed liner. Be sure to fill all gaps and cracks. Two coats on top side minimum. Seals, protects, will make it darn near water tight, easy to clean. Bed liner comes in dozens of colors now. Loads of work but well worth it in the end.

Do you still have to put foam in if you rhino line?

I can hardly wait to see it when it’s done. Lots of work ahead of you to do but will be worth it in the end. You love fishing and crabbing so it is well worth fixing it up. Great thing to fix up for the kids and wife. You will have lots of fun with the “new boat”.

Hello from the other side of the country , if the wood is still semi-good a product called copper green works great to kill the rot and prevent yhr spread . I have used it before and checked years later , all good . I feel your pain , my current boat has 0 wood in it !

Please check for soft spots on the outer hull... Bayliner's were famous for outer hull separation due to rot. When they rip open they sink pretty fast. I know you want your kids to be safe. Love your content. Lmao @ friends don't let friends buy bayliner's!!!

Fiberglass tech, work on mainly 65ft and up yachts. Have a side hustle at my home shop. Ive done dozens of bay liners. I can assure you, the whole floor is rotten and the stringers from mid ship back, is completely junk as well. Easy work, just not clean work, enjoy it!

Progress! I don't envy you bro, but I think it has the potential to be great again. Now you can put some thought as to what you want to put back in "seat wise". I like the idea of a cooler bench seat. Slow and steady as she goes Kurt. It's going to look amazing!! Although, a trip to the local dump would be funny as hell. lol Think positive! 👍

I had to watch this as I use to work at Bayliner and your lucky it rotted as We resined that floor in and I always wondered if it was fixable. Removing the box seats and placing captain chairs will give you floor room also.

Crazy how much rot there is. I would have been worried about fiberglass splinters but after seeing you poke that hidden spider at 12:52 I would have just burned the boat and bought new lol. Thanks for sharing and take care. ✌

Well, def is a lot of work ahead. Since you got it all opened up, hope you did not go with new wood. Composite or thick acrylic of some type? Then plaster it with Flex Seal (as seen on TV) Then astro turf on top. Was it fun busting it all apart? I mean, once you knew you had to, there must have been some enjoyment in the demo. Well, I would have enjoyed it anyways. Haha!

All the luck in the world to yea Kurt. I’ve done that a few times when I wore a younger mans clothes! You can buy some really sweet boats needing new floors and needing motors . Once again a younger mans game. But you’ll have it looking perfect soon…

Looking at a 99 bay liner capris with 5.0 motor. $7800 obo. After owning a bay liner, what do you think about these boats? I’m interested in the v8 motor as I am looking at getting more into water sports.

  • @aliasfred

If you replace the old rotten wood with more plywood, make sure you use marine grade plywood, and next time you store boat for long time, get it shrink wrapped.

  • @michaelomode630
    @michaelomode630 Před rokem

I just don't understand this technique of laminating plywood and both sides and expecting no rot. Once moisture gets through a small hole it gets trapped inside the plywood and rots from the inside... Surely there must be a better way today...these boats were made in the 80/90. Is there no better technology?
