  • Abandoned Target Greatland - Reynoldsburg, OH. Closed years ago and more recently was an auto auction center. Since the auto action relocated this place has been left to sit and fall apart again. Not just this store but this entire shopping center is dead.

Holy cow! I forgot Target Greatland even existed! I remember going inside of a few as I traveled to California for vacations. Last time I remember seeing one was probably 2007. I never really knew the difference between a Super Target and a Target Greatland. Thanks for a great video! Would love to see the rest of this shopping center as it looks line a ghost town!

That whole strip center was abandoned at one time that one place you pointed to was an home town buffet. I lived about 2 miles from that strip center in the 90's. It was the place for a little while. Things moved to another strip on rt 256 about 2 or 3 miles away in the 2000's. and 2010's.

Consumer Square East closing across the street around 2002 led the exodus east to 256. The buildings still stood several years until being razed and can be seen as a post apocalyptic crater just past the 70/Brice interchange. But if you go there some of the signs remain! My sister started working at the Sams at Consumer Square in 2000 and she still works for the company but has been on 256 since 2003. Meijer closed around 2008. A few restaurants including a Hometown Buffet, Sports Authority, and others all closed by 2010ish. Andersons was maybe the last to closed about 3 years ago. While mostly still abandoned, there is an interactive art experience called "Otherworld" which opened last year, and is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, but should re-open soon. I believe that is in the old "Sports Authority" space. All in all, if you are interested in late 20th/early 21st century retail abandons, Brice Road may be the hub of it all, at least in central Ohio.

I opened that Target in August1991. That whole area died when things started moving just up the road I-70 & St Route 256. Lots of stories from that store, met some interesting people, met my best friend there. The Greatland concept was pretty much retired after the stores in Columbus were built, the only store of the original 3 that is still open on Sawmill Road, store #666, but it was remodeled several years ago into a typical Target most ppl are now familiar with.

Grew up in this area. I loved going to that Target and have a lot of memories there. The whole plaza has pretty much been closed for over 10 years. It was Target, Office Max, Sports Authority, Petsmart, Bestbuy, a religious store, then the square shaped building was a Discovery Zone. There was also a dollar tree that replaced another store. There’s a place called Otherworld there now. The small store you point to across the parking lot was a Hometown Buffet. Petsmart, Target, Bestbuy, and the religious store (now closed), HHGregg (closed)all moved to 256 an exit away. Hobby Lobby and sports authority (went bankrupt) moved to East Broad St. Other Target Greatlands were on W Broad st (closed) and Sawmill Suncenter area (still open no longer a greatland)There’s a Target at Polaris that looks similar to the old target set up.

Yep before it was a discovery zone it was first opened in the fall of 1991 under the name 'Leaps And Bounds' same concept. It was renamed Discovery Zone in 1993. The traffic was always bad around there on the weekends those stores were packed. Most people got so annoyed by them always collecting for something at the Brice Road light. I have lived In Reynoldsburg since 1989 I loved what it was not what it has become. Since they closed the bowling alley, skating rink and pool Reynoldsburg has became bland.

The area started to decline and get worse with crime. Businesses ended up moving to 256 which is on the border of Reynoldsburg and Pickerington. There were still a handful of stores on the side you were on up until a few years ago, but the main ones (hobby lobby and sports authority until the went under) ended up moving to east broad near blacklick. If you want another reason to hate Target, 21 years ago my best friend was 17, expecting, living in a motel with her boyfriend, barely making any money at all. She landed a job at target as a cashier but a few months later she was fired because she called in sick. She had a great attendance record and was a hard worker. Target knew of her living and financial situation and still did this to her. I may or may not have marched into that store and screamed at the managers. Thankfully she was able to move in with her grandparents, and was able to get a great job soon after. Target has a history of doing people dirty and there's something way better out there. They even screwed my elderly great aunt!

My Local Super Target Store in Clearwater, FL, which opened in 2003, had a very 90’s Aesthetic to it before the store was majorly renovated in 2018, with funky carpets and Neon Signs all over the store. Target had relocated from a smaller store that had opened in 1991, which later became sub-divided into an LA Fitness and a Floor & Decor. The LA Fitness vacated in 2019, and it occupied the Main Entrance to the Former Target.

Have you ever went into an old abandoned store that still had old electronics sitting on the shelves? That'll be cool to see and admire

Wallie, I still remember (been twice inside) the ONLY Super Kmart in the Island (in Caguas, in the mountains like 40 mins. S of San Juan). It was slighly bigger than this Greatland (165K sq. ft.) and had A WHOLE SUPERMARKET in there, unlike this Target that had less meats and produce.
Like I've replied elsewhere here, THE PROBLEM WASN'T THE LOCATION (or even the Virus), as they're still close by. Problem was the OWNER OF THE MALL CHARGED TOO MUCH RENT, as the other LONG-TIME VACANCIES show, and Target found a CHEAPER PLACE to do business.

If you want to see a really old K-Mart check out my videos from Sidney, NY. The original store closed in the early 90s and moved next door (closed in February this year 😭, haven't been back since it closed). The original store still has the italic K label scar, the building is wide open, and inside it looks just like the infamous Trader Horn Wallie has filmed a few times. By far the coolest anandoned department store I've seen.
