100 Hours in Java, Indonesia 🇮🇩 Epic STREET FOOD Journey Across the Island of Java!

- Java in Indonesia is the world’s most populated island, populated not just by anyone but some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet and the Javanese, they love to eat. It’s not only the Javanese who inhabit this incredible island but also the Sundanese, Betawi and more. We will explore their cuisine from the narrow alley street food of Bandung to the countryside cooked meals in the Kingdom of Yogyakarta. The diversity of food on this one island is enough to have a lifetime of culinary discoveries.
Welcome to Chopstick Travel I'm Luke Martin and this is a film about 3 trips I’ve taken to Java recently to experience the islands food and heritage. Over 100 hours spent filming compiled into an extensive but certainly not exhaustive documentary about the Food Treasures of Java. We’re kicking things off with some sidewalk sate for breakfast in the Captil of West Java, Bandung.

Hey guys we’re trying something different with this ultra long form documentary of our trip in Java! What do you think about this style?
Having Video Chapters would be a big help, especially when someone has seen some of the content, it's easier to skip to the next section that we haven't seen. Now you have to do a Sumatera, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan video, Papua too if you're up to it!
My neighbors need 5 hour durration
I prefer shorter segments. I don't have time to watch the entire 3-hour video in one sitting, and going back to it later doesn't usually happen with my ADD. I do love your Java segments, as my mom and grandma used to cook Javanese cuisine.
😂🎉❤❤❤❤love the long food vid i cant beleave my luck keep it up😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤

Thank you for compiling this Javanese food video. I feel Javanese people love food and they are very friendly!
I was very impressed by that Sumatran restaurant and their sweet soups, and the tempting smoked beef ribs were unforgettable!
The diversity of food on Java makes people want to go there and dine, and I look forward to traveling there one day!
Thanks again for sharing, really super great job! 👍😄👏
Thanks Gianni! What do you think about the 3 hour video?
@@LukeMartin I have informed you on Facebook! Take care! Happy travels! 👍🥰🙏
I am in Canada been here for 46 years do miss Asian food but we are lucky we can cook our own spicy food
My mum is from Medan Indonesia she pass on long time
Ming you are a bless❤
Horas
I grew up in 10 different cities in Indonesia. From my experience, whenever you hop on to other city or island in Indonesia, you will surely find culinary delicacies, distinct from the other one. The fact that we're archipelagic nation, made that distinction more profound.
For instance, just for Indonesian soup alone:
Rawon and soto in Surabaya; soto Bangkong in Semarang; soto Kadipiro in Jogja; soto Kudus in Kudus; soto Betawi in Jakarta; soto Padang/Garuda in Padang; Coto Makassar & Palu Basa in Makassar; and so on. The spices selection and ingredients make the variation (just for these soup) endless
for a country with 17,000 islands. 1,300 ethnic groups. And 700 regional languages.
Indonesian 🇮🇩 love they food

Glad you enjoyed it!
I like the descriptions you use to describe the food you are trying. Really makes me feel like I'm there. I can hear the passion in your voice. New sub from me, keep it up!
LM, you are such a sport. Watching you eating common street food as locals does appreciate your manner & attitude. Mine compliments to you.
Thanks for documenting our heritages..❤ Should explore more places..
What a great compilation of the different kind of food around Java! Although I do think that it’s a tad too long…
I remember watching all these old videos! There are some good representations of Javanese, Sundanese, Betawi, Madurese, as well as Peranakan (Chinese, Arab, Indian, etc) dishes.
But hey, what’s that Minangkabau restaurant doing there? That’s from Sumatra, a whole different island! 😂
11:11 there are different styles of kupat tahu (ᮊᮥᮕᮃᮒ᮪ᮒᮃᮠᮥ) but I like the one with thinner sauce.
33:59 swikee (水雞) aka frog’s leg is a Chinese Indonesian favorite but it’s definitely not for everyone 😅
1:01:40 Yogyakarta and Central Javanese cuisines are notorious for being too sweet even for other Indonesians, but I don’t mind that goat satay ( ꦱꦠꦺꦮꦼꦝꦸꦱ꧀) at all.
Thanks we are trying something new with this episode
@@LukeMartin ah, I see. May the gods of algorithms be with you, then! 👼

Sundanese tamarind soup tends to be sweet because it uses finely grinded chili and shrimp paste, compared to Betawi tamarind soup which uses coarsely grinded chili without the shrimp paste
