to anyone willing to buy this lens in 2024, just know the EF 35mm f/2 IS is slightly better optically, and can be used with or without the speedbooster for 2 different focal lenghts and looks. It autofocuses way faster and more accurate especially on the R5C and C70 And can now be had used for a lot less than the RF, i actually bought the RF originally and was so unhappy with it's focusing performance i ended up trying the EF and was wowed by how much better it is and also how much cheaper it is today.
Thanks! Been looking for something like this 🙏🏼
Thank you for another great review. I can confirm that this lens is AWESOME. I shot a series of short documentary films for Universal Pictures and a pretty big Hollywood director. The client actually didn't know that I was using such an inexpensive lens and I got nothing but praises about the images from both of the clients. My shoot was overseas and I shot about 75% of my images for 45 days with this little lens. I LOVE IT!
You're welcome. Cool to hear that you had such a great experience with this lens too!
Now we need the 50mm with i.s. This seems to be the unattainable holy grail.
Ordered my RF 35 for my C70 today. Sounds like this is a hidden gem.
Thanks again Josh I can totally see why you went RF. You do so much into camera presenting where it's just you and the camera so RF and it's better AF is no doubt a plus. Also that darn purple dot/haze with the speed booster is crazy.
Side note: I've also got a Zacuto cage plus two handles for the c70. Fantastic quality.
I'm so missing an EVF so that's my next task.
Thank you for another great video! How far in regards to iso would you push the C70?
Thank you. It would be nice to buy additional lenses I needed a macro
Great review! Thanks!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Really thank you for the hard work you do for us
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Which monitor you recommend for the canon R7 and give us budget choice please
Love the 35mm!
Thanks yet again Josh. I'm your number 1 fan. I'm thinking of going RF and bypassing the Speedbooster option.
You're welcome. I am not a fan of the Speedbooster since I rarely shoot in controlled lighting. I would go with RF or EF with the straight EF-RF adapter.
UPDATE: ended up getting the speedbooster. I haven't had any real issues with blur flare.
Just on the rf 35mm f1.8 well it's a really underrated lens. Cheap but good look.
Nice looking combo!
Thanks! That little lens is great!
Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
How are you getting this footage looking this Sharpe? I have Both the C70 and this lens and my image is soft and requires Post sharpening
Hi, Josh.
I just ordered my c70 but have a few doubts for the lenses.
Is this 35 1.8 good for video? Is it noisy? People have shown issues with the L primes, 35 and 50 about noise when focusing. How about this lens?
Thanks!
I loved you on Norsemen!
This lens seems like a no-brainer for any RF mount camera. I would love this with an R6 for weddings and CZcams vids.
Agreed. Super versatile lens!
What's an alternative to this lens for the C70? I have the C70 and looking for a 35mm. Here in Australia it's almost $800.
I slapped this lens on my Eos R .... three years ago ....... and it still on the R ......Never removed it ....... and I mean never removed it ....
Has anyone tried the 16mm 2.8 on the C70?
Wow Josh, I just hired this lens based on this video and it's absolutely blown me away. You've helped me to fall in love with my C70 again. I also hired a Sigma 35mm to go through the .71x focal reducer and the difference is night and day. It also creates a significantly nicer image than my EF 24-70 f2.8 and my EF 24-105 f4 (both through the .71x focal reducer). I've also watched your video about the focal reducer and definitely think extra glass is not helping the situation.
I know you spoke about testing the RF 16 STM, how do you think think that lens compares with the 35? And have you tried the 50? Would be great to hear your thoughts.
Glad the videos have been helpful for you. I think the 35 is better than the 16 or 50. It also costs a bit more. Here is my review of the 16: czcams.com/video/pQQBBgeCqhs/video.html
@@Josh_Sattin Thanks 👍
would you mind reviewing the RF16mm 2.8?
I definitely plan on doing that review. It’s on a long list of videos that I need to make.
looks superb. Would love to see the sister lenses to this. especially 85mm rf 1.8 (do i dare want to see the 50mm rf 1.8? el cheapo lens!?)
Would you say this can work well for documentary interviews?
That's totally personal preference and what you are going for, but yes a 35mm lens on a S35 sensor can be good for talking head A roll.
Would love to see how the RF 16mm look on the c70
I used it for this video: czcams.com/video/e-uxybDpIR8/video.html
@@Josh_Sattin Thanks!
@@Josh_Sattin it is private. Can you make it available for seeing? Thx
@@GRYHND Sorry I took that video down. I did a review of the RF 16 on the R5 and R7 though: czcams.com/video/pQQBBgeCqhs/video.html
@@Josh_Sattin thx mate. Do you have any experience with this lens on C70 and a gimbal? U mentioned it could be ok. I have no EF glass and search for a good RF solution. A bit afraid of missing IS. I assume handheld with C70 can be tricky?
the sound is not good I am quite disappointed
sounded good to me.
autofocus is HORRIBLE
