    After putting the C70 through its paces for the last three years I've consolidated all my learnings into a course! Linked here: www.ericwalkervideo.com/c70

    I've been using my C70 like this allll the time since Feb 2021 on my own one man band documentary style journey! I also created vertical markers for 9x16 (Marker 1 size 608/1080, Marker 2 size 100/100) because so much stuff is vertical focused nowadays and I don't always have the ability to hit display (labeled 5) and flip the camera/footage 90 degrees for vertical videos - I'll crop in post. Also super glad I set Button 4 to record because being right handed and holding the camera with a top handle and hitting record with the left hand is a bit of twisting I don't need in my life.

      Maybe you know this, but you can enable the on-screen record button as well. This was a game changer for me for the same reason!

    Thanks for all the c70 info, it's all been really helpful!
    Just a little tip for using S&F / Audio, if your second card is full the C70 won't record audio to the first card, it just won't record any audio at all.

    2:1 is my favourite aspect ratio. I find it a good balance of height and width.

    YES!! I love using the aspect markers. I’ve also been on an aspect ratio kick lately, although I’m mostly 2.76. 🤣🤣 And I also turn off the tally light. As you mentioned, when it’s on, people are hyper aware of the camera’s presence. Turning it off subtly relaxes folks, even if they do know a camera’s there. Great video. Thanks for posting! 🙌🏾

  • @littletheatrefilms5825

    I’m looking forward to seeing the doc footage and your experience. I’d like to see how you manually focus using the c70. Seems like everyone has a 7 inch monitor but you don’t. If you were ever thinking of a quick little video.
    Excellent video as always.

    Awesome stuff! My boss Brad Watanabe knows you, I sent him some of your videos to him and he’s like, I know that dude! Anyways, one note is that if doing the slow fast mode with WAV, the audio just saves to the other card. I was shooting like that on one project, filled up card one and then when it jumped to card 2 it stopped recording audio cause card 1 was filled. If I had just stopped a minute or two earlier on card one and then switched, I could have gotten the last dozen or so clips at the end with audio files too (and I really wish I did!) mahalo for all the great content!!!

    • @SoundItOutFilms
      @SoundItOutFilms  Před 2 lety

      HEVC. Can’t resist those tiny file sizes when shooting such a massive project and backing up everything to multiple drives for safety.

  • @matadormartin
    @matadormartin Před 2 lety

    The C70 is a genuinely amazing camera for docs I think. I shot some of a Vice short I directed last year on it, and intend to shoot another hybrid doc/fiction short this year. For me it has about 90% of the flexibility of a larger camera like a C300 (in terms of audio channels, lots of customisation to buttons) but it's a lot easier to carry around for days on end.

    • @MylesBelland
      @MylesBelland Před 2 lety

      That's super cool. Can I ask what bit rate you filmed for the Vice docs? 10bit 4:2:2?

    • @matadormartin
      @matadormartin Před 2 lety +1

      @@MylesBelland Yeah XF-AVC 10bit 422. Anything for a broadcaster or digital platform like that they are very unlikely to want raw files, just a codec they can use straight away.

    • @MylesBelland
      @MylesBelland Před 2 lety

      @@matadormartin That makes sense. I've only just shot Raw the other day to try it out. XF-AVC over MP4? So far I have only used mp4 422.

    • @matadormartin
      @matadormartin Před 2 lety +1

      @@MylesBelland MP4 is good for a lot of purposes and edits fast on an M1 based Mac. XF-AVC is a bit more professional in terms of metadata and audio, Eric from Sound it Out actually made a good comparison video so I'd recommend that. I'm shooting raw for an upcoming personal project so I'm going to see how that goes!

  • @prskyviews
    @prskyviews Před 2 lety

    Hey Eric, hope you are doing great covid got me and I am prepping myself for when I recover… quick one for you, Is it possible to have a shortcut button assigned so the camera automatically switches to slow and fast 120?
    That could be a huge plus since there are moments were fast switching could make a huuuge impact for fast paced environments, cheers

    • @michaelkellykelly
      @michaelkellykelly Před 2 lety +1

      There is! I have button 11 under the lens set for this. The footage gets darker, so if I'm in a hurry, I just go down a stop of ND to compensate.

    • @prskyviews
      @prskyviews Před 2 lety

      @@michaelkellykelly 😃 thanks! I grabbed my C70 and started playing with it and found the way the thing I was missing was that for this to work the camera has to be in HEVC it does not work on xfavc
