In this video I show you how to Modify your Razor Mx650 MX500 and upgrade the motor to a 48v 1800w motor with a 1800w controller this is a brush less motor and it's awesome, the torque is insane and it's quieter than my stock MX650 motor, this electric dirt bike charges hills it's pretty insane, I haven't yet gotten it over 28mph but I think I've done over 30mph on a slight downhill. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for such great, detailed directions!
That's bad ass son keep on doing that one I love it man you got some Detroit fans bro
Great build tutorial, was very helpful!
You might’ve just saved me a weeks work with this video
Great vid can’t wait to upgrade mine
Great video! Thanks for the detailed steps. Can't wait to try it with our SX500!
Can you make the video on connecting the voltage reader throttle to this setup anytime soon? Doing this same build, and wanted to see how you went about it. Thanks in advance!
Just got this kit for my razor drifter, should be fun. Had the 1500watt controller and 1000watt motor but fried the motor and couldn't find one cheaper than this whole kit so I said why not lol
I had one of these when I was a kid and man I wish I had done that to it lol
If you had one when you were a.kid you still are
A kid? I have 3 modded ones at 36! Never to old!!!just make sure you have health insurance 😅😅😅

Careful about telling to tell folks they can skip the brake safety switch hook up. My experience tells me these are in case of an electrically or mechanically stuck throttle the rider can hit the brakes and it will stop. Yes you can always turn the thing off but at that point once the rider realizes it with this mod you will be cruising. These little bikes are cool for sure. Cool stuff thanks for sharing all the mod details.
I'm modified mine to run 60 volts and its fast 37 miles top speed
can you tell me what batteries and motor you used

How long is the battery life
Thank you for this video, it inspired me to convert mine, a lot of trouble getting the motor in, but it’s also a sx500, is now 1 in the morning after 9 hours of working on it, (mostly because It took 4 hours to put the motor in) but so far I got up to 30mph but had to slow down due to the road ending, on a half charge and 13 tooth sprocket. I also weight 140.
Getting one soon planning to mod it to an 84v
Amazing:)
Does the 3ah make a difference? Like do you think it’s worth it to get the smaller one?
Hey could you maybe make a vid about the RSF350 street bike from Razor and upgrading it?
just bought this bike for my kid with the long term goal for a conversion
How long does the battery take to charge and how long does the battery last?
Thx u for adding a clip of u riding
You got it:) Have a great day:)
Iove it.
Thank you so much:)
I got the nut removed to replace the sprocket but how'd you get the actual sprocket off?
Do u have to use a new throttle when upgrading to 48v 1800 motor?
Have you tried switching to 13 tooth sprocket?
So this kit will work on the mx500 correct?
I did the same upgrade in December 2018, however I did it a lot different, PLUS you missed a lot of info and details on the controller connectors. Let me explain, First the 3 speed connector should be connected to a single pole double throw center off switch. This actually changes the power output like 1st , 2nd, 3erd gears, default is 2nd not connected, the 3 pin spdt center off switch gets the black wire in the middle and others on the ends, so when black and yellow connect it is 1st gear, center off 2nd gear and black and blue connected is 3erd gear, so if you want full power all the time just jumper the black and blue wires.(optional wire colors are green and orange for the 3 speed) As for the indicator lights wires and brake lamp wires they are negative switched, so your stringed 4 batterys end battery that gives the (-) negative power to the controller is the battery you get the (+) to your lights/lamps for 12v and make it HOT all the time and use the black negative from the connector to power on and not use the other wire in the connector, OR use a BUCK VOLTAGE CONVERTER from ebay that can handle 60v input, for a 36v input 3A is less than $2 each. Also for mounting the controller it fits under the seat rails in the back with tie straps real good. I have a lot more info, your free to ask or for tech help. PS, the top speed with 5200rpm(BOMA BRUSHLESS MOTOR) and 11/80 gears and 15" tall tire is 32MPH on FLAT GROUND. or 27.71MPH at 4500rpm default 2nd gear power level. Also you paid $30 for a 48v 1.5A charger, I paid $17 for a 48v 2.5A charger. eBay item number: 322438359157 and only $139. for the same motor kit.
TechknowCSS if you can send me the link of your parts and kit I’d appreciate it. Like to hook my little guy up. Troyocfa@gmail.com
TechKnowCSS like to do the same if you can send me the info
Thanks for the info! Could you also send me a email of what you got? Thanks! shishkebabsyt09@gmail.com
sweet homie, thats exactly how i hooked mine up 2 yrs ago, but i added an extra 12V R/C battery with double throw switch in the battery loop, gives an extra boost of almost 5mph for about 2 minutes then switch back off to normal.(like a nitro burst)😆👌🏼
I’m 13 and I wanna upgrade my parts this summer during quartine can you send the link in the comments thanks I appreciate it
So if your controller goes bad and you replace it do u have to buy another throttle?
That channel you referenced at @2:18 is ScannerDanner I believe.
What kind of wire?
Best if you make your own battery using li-ion 18650 cells...you can shape the battery to fit the space you have to work with!🤠👍
Ima start saving up to get a 5000w 72v kit to install but I can’t decide if razor mx650 or rsf650 🫤which one y’all think I should get
I want to build one of these how hard on a scale of 1-10 would y say it is
If you use the kit only will it still work
crescent wrench is always the best when bending metal like this
Is the 13 tooth sprocket required
love it.
Thanks so much:) just got done riding it, it was charging big hills:)
do u think this will work for the mx350?
4:08 I think you ssid 800w, did you mean 1800w?
How long of a battery life do you get
How long does the battery last?
would the 72v 3000watt motor fit on the mx650?...\
Nice vid but I was just wondering how tall you are because the bike is ment for kids right?
Do I have to know a lot about electrical works to do this ???
Would that fit a razer mx350?
how do u get over 11 miles? Mine with the same set up has four 15.3ah lead acids and im only getting 3 miles before my bike is dead slow.
Can you find the charger link for me? Your link doesn’t take us to the charger now
Quick question that would be very helpful, does that deck that hold the top battery’s half to be there to support the frame cuz I plan on putting a a single battery there and I need that whole area
I don't think it's for frame support, because it's so thin metal, I think it's there just for battery holding support. But I'm not 100% sure.
@@TipsNNTricks honestly bro you should just throw in a 72v 35ah battery from lightspeed batteries that thing would be dope af!
I wonder if 96 V as possible?
I could not figure out why my conversion would not send power. Turns out, you need to connect he brake switches.
Plus the charger link in your description doesn't work which charger is it
If I skip the step for hooking the brakes up to the controller, is it safe on the brushless motor to use manual disk brake while the throttle is engaged? I’m afraid it will wear the motor out faster if the manual brakes stop the motor from spinning. I know people do it but is it ok?
It'll be fine
Yep that's my bike all right
I’m 200lbs and 6’6 and have a mx350 that I put handlebar risers and protaper bars on so I can fit my knees under it🤣I changed the stock 80t rear sprocket to a 65t and upgraded it to 36v with a 24v 500w motor the motor sprocket is 13t and im hitting 25-27mph
Wish u was closer to me to make my bike faster i have the same one enjoy bro
Yep add extra row of cells l ion. Overvolt Go Go Go. The extra amps is the answer
Hey I need help bc it runs but it only goes 5 mph max
Hey, Ive been trying to copy your build and I had it working, motor would turn and everything. I disconnected the motor to cut the mounts off and then reconnected and now it won't do a thing. Also the charger tweaks out when I plug it in and stops providing voltage. Any ideas? Thanks
I am trying to get my charger hooked up. Not sure about a couple of things there. I am using 4 12v 22AH Batteries, and the advised charger, but a little iffy on how to proceed. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K9QCONQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
May want to upgrade them brakes
If you take the speed control out of its shell , it’s a lot smaller ,
you need to run lipo cells instead of lead acid. you get higher top speed cause they supply higher amps and are much lighter so your whole bike weighs less. one big thing is that lead acids should never be drained past half way as they can die and youll have a hard time getting them to take a charge were as lipos can go the whole way till they have something like 2.3v left and you dont get the power drop off that lead acids have.
only issue is price and that LA batteries have a larger usable range of voltage. LiPo once they fall under a certain point can be damaged, and using the BMS will cut it off before it gets there. You can drain a LA down significantly further than a lithium battery, and it will absolutely recharge back to it's full level. The weight is certainly an issue, being like 8lbs a battery i think, but with the power and reliability, it's probably not that big a deal. This is more user friendly than going lithium since you need special chargers, and the higher initial cost. For this capacity on lithium, unless you're building a pack, you're talking A LOT of money.
I got the kit and when I turn the throttle it makes the chain spin but it takes a second to start moving after it spins any idea why?
Freewheel bearing going out in the rear sprocket?
Thanks! So what exactly makes the bike go faster? Changing the battery? The motor????
Everything. Just everything.
Learn Ohm's law and understand how running 4 12v batteries in a series connection multiples the voltage by 4 equating to 48v thus providing more wattage needed to run the 1800 watt upgraded motor. Of course you cannot simple wire in the extra battery and toss in a new motor. The new controller he added in is key. It limits and controls output to the motor and if wired correctly with the proper 6 wire throttle you can have variable speeds (generally 3, low, medium and hi) all controlled by pushing different wattages to the motor. You also have to take into consideration he is using 15 amp hour batteries instead of 12 amp hour which these razor bikes come with. So, to determine how much amps or watts your motor recieves at the various throttle positions ie; low, mid and hi, you could use the power formula. Converting amps to watts can be done using the power formula, which states that I = P ÷ E, where P is power measured in watts, I is current measured in amps, and E is voltage measured in volts. Thus, the power P in watts is equal to the current I in amps multiplied by the voltage V in volts. So if you've followed thus far, 4 batteries x 4 = 48v but the amps remain the same (sorry forgot to mention that earlier) so you'd times 48v x 15 amps and you'd get the maximum wattage output to the motor being 720 watts. Which is a significant upgrade from 650 watts believe it or not. I'm not sure exactly how the controller he purchased is setup whether it can do some form of trickery to push more power to the motor but I believe it is possible with the proper circuitry and capacitors and whatnot. 1800 watt motor seems excessive but this way the motor is never under maximum strain and will outlast the previous 650 watt motor by a longshot. Not sure why exactly I went into such a long explanation but I'm home due to forced Government shutdowns and social distancing and my adult interaction as of late is seldom and my main for of communication comes from that of my 7 year old son so I thought why not. If you have time I suggest looking up ohm's law and power formulas and learning a bit about these things as they are very interesting. Take for instance if he had wired all 4 batteries in parallel the voltage would remain at 12v volts but the amp hours would increase by 4 giving you 60 amp hours ultimately making for a super long runtime as the amp hours are capacity of said batteries rather than power output. Although you wouldn't be able to power this bike with only 12v of output power so that would not work that way. See how it works? Series, x volts by number of batteries. Parallel, times amp hours by number of batteries and wattage you can times the voltage by amp hours to get maximum wattage. 😁 I know I probably just confused you more. Sorry.
Larry Schwemle thank you so much for this! Will be upgrading my mx500 this weekend! I appreciate it.
adding a battery and upgrading watts in motor
Bottom line - move voltage means you can get higher motor speeds.
I’ve read that the standard 36v controller can handle 48v.
Yes it can.
I'm getting an mx650 for my son and then an rsf650 for myself and plan on doing this mod on both of them. But as soon as you started doing the wiring and adding different connectors I'm like fuck my life. That's where I'm going to struggle 😩
It's a lot easier if you don't add all the extras. Lithium battery, controller, output to motor, output to throttle. He has a lot going on in here. You can buy kits as well with instructions to make it a lot easier if you look around.
Would it still work if I left the 36v batteries in?
I am not getting power out of the controller. How do I fix this? (I am getting power from the batteries)
PUT A JUMPER IN THE DOORLOCKS CONNECTOR., OR A BAD BRAKE SWITCH, JUST UNPLUG BRAKE SWITCH TO VERIFY.
Help me my dad can't wire anything nothing is responding please help that would be amazing
What is the easiest possible way to get 5-10 more mph on my MX650. I have absolutely no experience working w batteries or dirtbikes so Im scared that I might break my bike if try to do this. Also, do you think an electric bike shop might be willing to do this stuff for me?

You can run a 36v motor with 48v batter, turns it into a HAL motor
It’s 4 12 volt batteries which is what give it the 48volts, he just runs it in a series which goes through all batteries instead of just one then switching to another and so on
