  • Upgrading our stock 24v Pocket Mod to 36v electronics.
    On Amazon if you search “LotFancy 36v” you will find the speed control module for around $29.50. The motor is a MY1020 36v motor. They come in a variety of wattages. I got an 800w one and the top Speed is around 16-18mph on flat ground, almost hitting 20mph on declines. You may want to go with a 1000w motor for more speed. Not sure if the controller can handle a 1000w motor though, you would need to check specs. Other than that, I used some random screws from my parts bin and the thick plywood doubled up to make the motor mount. We run this set up on a 4s lipo and 6s lipo run in series to essentially create a 10s lipo.

    • @MapleBoarder78
      @MapleBoarder78  Před 3 lety

      Derek and Courtney As far as I know, the system will not work on 24v, you need 36v to power the 36v motor and speed control. You would need three 12v batteries which will not fit in the stock battery location as it’s only meant to hold two 12v batteries for the stock 24v system. That is why I use lithium batteries kept in the seat compartment.

    • @MapleBoarder78
      @MapleBoarder78  Před 2 lety +1

      One is a 4s (14.8v) and the other is a 6s (22.2v) ran in series for a total of 37v, but remember, that is nominal voltage assuming an average voltage of 3.7v per cell. The actual voltage of each cell when fully charged is 4.2v giving you 10 cells at 4.2v = 42v. You can also run two 5s lipos in series. Just make sure they have the same capacity and discharge rating.

    • @MapleBoarder78
      @MapleBoarder78  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Joey, I probably won’t have a chance to do a video about the wiring, but I can tell you what I did. I just snipped off the stock battery connector on the speed control and soldered on a deans (some people prefer XT-90 connectors). Then I drilled a hole under the seat right above the speed control to feed the deans connector through up to the batteries which you can see at 7:50 I use a basic lipo battery charger I bought on Amazon. You can get them for around $30-$50. To charge them I unplug them from the scooter and charge them on my work bench. Here is a link to a charger…
      smile.amazon.com/FCONEGY-Battery-Balance-Discharger-Batteries/dp/B0848J872Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=lipo+charger&qid=1632425933&sr=8-3
      Lipo batteries are plentiful on Amazon and from places like HobbyKing. Unfortunately it can be hard to find good quality batteries for a good price. I tried buying cheapo lipos for a few years but always ran into issues with cell quality. You might have better luck.

I'm trying to retrofit my daughter's Pocket Mod v. 47 to have a variable speed throttle (not upgrading the battery or motor as you did). As far as I can tell, no one makes a kit for v. 47. I have the wiring diagram for the v. 44 and v. 47 and they are only different in how the controle module connects to the on/off switch and the battery (everything else is plug and play). I just need a few more wires and connectors to fix the problem but I don't know what wires or connectors to order! I don't know if I can post the diagrams here...

      @MapleBoarder78  Před 4 lety +4

      Sorry for the late reply. Let me know how it goes! 👍🏼
