Season 1 Jonathan was really something. It's a shame he didn't get that much of a character development in the following seasons. But even so he'll always be my favorite along with El.
I feel like once they got to work redeeming Steve they no longer knew what to do with Jonathan. I was almost certain Steve was going to die at the end of season 1, and thought it was cool he was going out in a brave, redemptive way. But then, rather than dying, he survived and arguably became one of the more interesting aspects of seasons 2-3. By season 4 I was forgetting Jonathan existed every time he wasn’t onscreen. I appreciate the hell out of Stranger Thing’s decision not to make Steve such a black and white villain character, but I also think it made it a lot harder for them to balance the Nancy/Jonathan dynamic while making it seem interesting. Steve and Nancy had solid chemistry in season 4.

1:13 is really powerful in hindsight. it really showcases steve’s development. he went from making homophobic insults to completely accepting robin, which is a huge improvement. i also wonder if it’s part of the reason jonathan wanted to make sure will knew he loved him no matter what after the van scene? maybe he was remembering this and wanted to make sure will had someone supporting him when the rest of the world (and even their own friend group if he didn’t believe steve changed that much) wouldn’t.
@Paddy Bateman i know, that’s the point. it was still homophobic (and transphobic), even if it was normalized at that time. and the word itself isn’t bad, it’s just not an insult anymore. it’s only bad if someone does try to use it as such. but even then, it’s more the connotation than the word itself.
I love this scene because before this, Johnathan bottles everything up. Like he stops himself from crying about will even even in front of his mom. So he fights with determination and anger. The bullying, the horrible father, the missing brother, and crazy mother. He just lets it all out.
That was the moment John humbled who Steve was pretending to be cause of his idiotic friends , and later Dustin brought out who Steve really is on the inside, a weirdo goofball just like the rest of the crew 🖤

Anyone else notices Jonathans reaction: He walked away although Steve was rude to him, but the second he said: "Your whole family is full of screw ups" he stopped. He doesn't give a shit what Steve thinks of him, but he got mad the second he insulted his mom and brother. His anger got stronger when Steve spoke about Joyce and he looked to the side for a split second, but still he controlled his anger. He really snapped the second Steve said: "I'm not surprised what happened to your brother" Although Jonathan knew that Will might be alive at that point he also knew Steve thinks, Will has died. Steve intentionally spoke about his "dead" brother like that and that's when he had enough. I love these little details. Jonathan never cared about what others thought of him, but he always care how people thought about his mother and brother.
Also notice how Jonathan doesn’t really care what Steve said about Nancy. It seems like he doesn’t care what anyone says unless it’s about his mother and especially his brother. Really sets up Jonathan sacrificing himself for Will. Although I doubt the duffers care about his character outside the shitty love triangle with Nancy and Steve which never mattered in his character
@@Tonycillian5 actually he was already getting a little riled up when Steve told Nancy to go to hell, which is why Flo even suspected that Jonathan was Nancy's boyfriend, but the overall exploding point was him getting compared to his douche bag father and then of course when he insulted will and Joyce

Steve was with her because he genuinely LOVED and CARED about her, whereas Nancy only seemed to have hooked up with him because she wanted to hang with the “cool kids.” From the beginning, Steve always loved her.. and I don’t think it’s irrational to be upset over finding out your partner was hanging around the same creep that was literally taking photos of you half naked behind your back.
This beating was the stepping stone for Steves development. Thanks to Jonathan beating Steve like a ragdoll, we got one of the best characters ever written in Stranger Things XD

@@matheusguedes9847 Don’t know, maybe, they’ve probably grown mature now after season , they’ll probably return in the final season you know, for their apology to Steve, Jonathan and Nancy.
Only started watching the show and just got to this scene, it's so weird seeing all the comments about how they love steve haha. I loved seeing jonathan fuck him up here lol
To be fair Steve thought Nancy was betraying him. Yes, he exagerated too much on his reaction, but he realised it and went after them to apologize later, I know that some people didn't like him at first, but for me he was always a nice guy.
I would say it doesn't justify his actions, but it does explain them cause Steve didn't even try to ask Nancy about what actually happened before letting his friends spray paint 'Nancy is a slut' in public, and that is never okay even if you have suspicions that your partner is cheating. That and using slurs to insult someone and bringing their missing younger brother was definitely too far. I think he was guy with a shitty/sexit/prejudiced attitude that had potential to be good, but he only began fulfilling his potential when he took responsibility and went to jonathan's house to apologize. Imo that makes his character development so much better, he's become on of my favourite characters now and even his perspective on lgtq+ groups changed since he fully embarced Robin's sexuality! It's satisfying to see how much writers can evolve a character to become so much better and show that growth is possible if you put in the work

And once jonathan throws the first punch (you can't even say he started the physical part because steve was pushing him before), he starts to pull away but its steve that tackles him and continues the fight. Anyways stan jonathan he's my fav
Imma Jonathan Stan too🔥
I agree lol. Jonathan is a tank and always will be lol! But man I wanted to see Jonathan and Billy face off
If Jonathan was pissed idk if Billy could take him honestly .
@@JxbGrimlock oh my god yes an angry jonathan and billy face off would've been so cool. Actually just any fight where jonathan was mad, could you imagine if he was there for the el and angela thing?
@@keyboardsmash4930 sheesh Angela wouldn’t see the light of day, I swear Jonathan gets slept on these days. And idk why, ppl just don’t like him anymore, but I just hope in s5. He’s like he was in s1-s3, man I hope lol. Bc he’s been my favorite since the first episode lol. But yes Billy Vs Jonathan would’ve been such a fair fight.
if carol and tommy were in danger lol do you think Jonathan would save or wouldn't even care about them?
This came out 5 YEARS AGO!!! I feel old
If Jonathan fought Billy, Billy would’ve probably win, Steve is rich and knows how to control his temper, but Billy he’s twice pissed than Jonathan is, they both were abused by their Dads, Jonathan has morality and was able to grow mature against his father, and his mother is always by her side. But Billy, his mom left him and he got his rage to his father.
if carol and tommy were in danger lol do you think Jonathan would save or wouldn't even care about them?
@@matheusguedes9847 Don’t know, maybe, they’ve probably grown mature now after season , they’ll probably return in the final season you know, for their apology to Steve, Jonathan and Nancy.
Steve can’t win against a person but wins against a demogorgan
Got beat so bad he had goated character development
Lmfao
Remember when we used to hate Steve everyone? Today we love him for a parent figure and a true friend. Haha!!
Only started watching the show and just got to this scene, it's so weird seeing all the comments about how they love steve haha. I loved seeing jonathan fuck him up here lol
They ruined Jonathon's character in season 4
Oh yeah, that was terrible.
Really? Seemed legit to me. It WOULD happen😂
Weed
@@LiberalJudea what the fuck. Why did you only say weed?
No shit.
I kinda wanna see Jonathan Byers and Steve Harrington get into a friendship now that I think about it
Hopefully Steve doesn't die
I've been wanting that
Ngl, this was satisfying to watch.
Remember, this is before we thought steve as ever gonna be likeable
we all laughed at this part
i gotta give steve some credit here he was throwing some good punches and dodging like a god and he didint let tommy join
The first time steve got beaten up he kinda deserved it but I felt bad for him when he got attacked by billy.
That's character development everyone started loving him after S2
When Nancy slapped him, I was like "Damn!"
I love that they basically made Jonathan a lowkey Tank despite his usual nonconfrontational demeanor
It's satisfying to see how much writers can evolve a character to become so much better and show that growth is possible if you put in the work
@@seatheparade like I said, he exagerated too much, probably because he really liked her and felt betrayed, he exagerated on his reaction, but when his mind were clear he regreted almost instsntly.
I have never seen he having any problem with LGTV.
Damn, it's incredible how Steve evolved along the series, 1st was a dork and now is my fucking hero🔥💕
I love how Steve's friend later acts like he would have done any better.
1:48.... This is y i love Steve he being fair
Season 1 : Steve doesn't deserve Nancy
Season 2 : They both deserve each other
Season 3 : Nancy doesn't deserve Steve
4 Nancy desperately need steve
2:21 - 2:23 the cops hat just magically disappears as he’s running after them 😂
😂😂
It's so rare to have a character like Steve who so clearly was just the "bullying" character who probably wasn't meant to stick around for more than one season and now he's the fan favourite
Steve took it to far when he mentioned will.
Odyy Boo jonathan got pissed when it got to will
Jeffy quote
I would of jobbed him for even pushing me. I really enjoyed the outcome and progression of steves character though in season 2.. Poor thing got beat up again though :(
I agree
Odyy Boo Yeah but he was protecting Nancy in the long run
Season 1: Steve doesn’t deserve Nancy
Season 2: Nancy doesn’t deserve Steve
Season 3: NO ONE DESERVES MOM STEVE.
Steve still doesn't deserve Nancy or robin
amanda kenya other way around
@@Kenyagirly nancy never deserved steve hes too pure for her
Pixelate Wings Except Billy 😌😉
Why didn’t Nancy deserve Steve?
It's funny how at first steve was one of the most hated characters now he's pretty much everyone's favourite
ziiink him and Dustin together is just the best
ziiink still hate him
Hisoka approved.
I want to kill Jonathan and stupid Nancy. I hate theese two. king Steve ♡
I guess you are from England
