What Jonathan said at the end is such a hard truth, how these suburban kids think they're rebelling by actually doing exactly what everyone else does. Just sitting back and observing people makes you gain a deeper understanding of society. You go Jonathan!

I think he really hit a nerve with nancy.
her brother thought she changed and he didn't like it, her mum was very suspicious of her even barb was upset that she was starting to hang out with Steve and his friends.
Steve's friends didn't really like her to begin with and she is a studious girl who likes to study and used to play dungeons and dragons with her brother and his friends. Then suddenly she was sneaking out of her house, lying to her parents, shot gunning beer and sneaking boys into her house and it's a huge change and Jonathan noticed and it upset her.

Jonathan’s roasting skills even make perfect sense for his character. He observes people more than anything, tries to understand others cause he doesn’t really get them. Instead of having normal conversations he usually just listens and makes mental notes. He had Nancy figured out pretty quickly by her relationships and how she talks about her parents.

Shows like Stranger Things are great in the way that they have relatable characters that are in the morally "gray" area instead of clear-cut right or wrong. Jonathan obviously succumbed to temptation by taking private pictures, so did Nancy succumb to the temptation of trying to be "cool" by fucking Steve. These actions are what most of us would conceivably take in similar situations.

It really is amazing acting and writing. The ocasional use of romance but never ruining the vibe with extra long scenes. It has lost a lot of depth. As much as I love Jonathon's depth of character, the stalking scene felt a step too far. It seems unrealistic that Nancy would somehow grow closer to him straight after having a non-consensual topless photo taken of her from the bushes, even if his intentions weren't bad. 99% of females would feel extremely violated to the point of no return, but maybe that just infers that Nancy had feelings for Jonathon from the very beginning
