Full Build: Reviving A Hurst/Olds With A 455 & Retro Upgrades

- When our 15th-anniversary Hurst-Olds first arrived on the scene in 1983, it was safe to assume that this blacked-out puppy with red & silver accents was packing plenty of power and high-performance agility. What ended up happening was that it didn’t necessarily live up to the hype, and it simply fell short of expectations. It was all show and no go. But we intended on changing that by making all the proper upgrades to turn this Hurst-Olds into the street-seeking muscle cruiser it was meant to be.

Watch the Hurst drop the hammer: czcams.com/video/Xm_NTZUgaD4/video.html
Is this show still on TV or only online, I can’t find it anywhere on TV ? We have Bell Fibe tv.
Okay,
I started it over, in case I missed it.
But if you don't show me the shifters and how they work...
It's a Hurst, right???
@@jeremysterious. yep... the '83 and '84 Hurst/Olds had the Hurst lightning rod shifters
@@johnmcwade222😮 we😮😮
Gotta love a Gbody with an Oldsmobile 455 what a great experience!!!!
Great job on the build n polish. After 40 years can't expect miracles
It does look better at the end. Yes there are cheaper products out there but trial by fire to find a good one. I used it on my 83 hurst n it came out not bad. Thank you for the video. Love it
My Dad bought a 67 442 brand new. Had a 400 small block and turbo 400 tranny. He gave it to me for HS graduation. I miss my dad and that car too. Thanks dad.
That’s awesome. Good memories I’m sure.
@@psfanboy79 Man, that car would light those tires up until the rear of the car disappeared in smoke. Put it in low and shift to second, it would bark those H60's. 😝
Beautiful cutty !!!! Thank you so much for the video !! I'm a Oldsmobile guy have a 75 , 442 with a 455 n tons of go fast racing equipment .... it's nice to see hurst olds with some true olds parts not an LS thank you've made my day !
This car is my favorite build you guys have done. I'm a Ford guy, but Oldsmobiles have a special place in my heart. I had a 71 and a 87 Cutlass. Both had the 350 rocket.
You guys make hard work look fun and you addicted me to watching your full builds, I'm 70 years of age and I remember and really drooled over the cars you guys get the pleasure of working and improving, keep it up guys, I'm here watching for fun.
Glad to see the 455 go in instead of another LS swap.
Totally agree. So tired of LS swaps...
Watched this whole build episode by episode last year but will gladly watch it again, love the old g bodies and you guys did an awesome job with this one!
Idk a lot of the old g bodies like the K car and the gm stuff from each company that they own not only look exactly the same but also are practically made out of melted down tin cans and Chinese plastic
Olds did have a way nicer interior than the Buick i had tho
Me 2 watching again ❤
Me too
Excellent build and video. There's just not enough who want to bring back these amazing Oldsmobiles from EVERY era! Some of those cool 50's are so worth bringing back even tho there's not many aftermarket parts out there. 1957 Olds with the J2 Tri Power are AWESUM!
I know they were from a bad era of cars....but, the styling is still cool with crisp edges and angles rather than curves.
'80s GM 'G' body, cars are going up in price!
Agreed
They were from an era of bad ENGINES. Drop a crate engine in any of these 70's-80's cars and they are awesome.
Tommy...............you gotta be my favourite Power Nation guy 😊
1982-88 G-body GM cars were the quintessential example for street cool💕. Buick GNX, Monte Carlo SS, Hurst Olds and Pontiac GP…….doesn’t get much better 💕..imo
That's never been on my list of dream cars but that thing is simply gorgeous.
Amazing how that engine installed itself.
Been waiting for this for quite a while. Thanks for finally pushing it out!
Great product placement power nation ! I was almost able to watch the build in between all of the sponsorships !!
I drove a c10 short bed with a 455 when I was in my early twenties. Scared the shit out of me 😂
I've watched this video as well as your Monte Carlo video for good pointers and ideas for my 1982 Monte Carlo. It's just a rolling body, but it has a lot of potential. It has T-Tops, and an air induction hood like the one on your Hurst Olds.
Thanks for the videos!
Awesome, Derek's always the showman whether he tries or not , by including audience members, especially young people. Making him more relatable
Thank you for taking another low production collector car and although anemic in performance you just made my 83 H/O worth more as i have kept it all numbers matching and thus an even more rare find.
good for you
Those cars were absolute dogs. Without an engine swap what’s the point? Look nice, but no go in em
I’ve had one of these since 2001. So cool to finally see one get attention.
Very nice restoration whilst keeping the car reasonably original to what it was built for.
This is movie length premiere.
Suspension hardware looks awesome but would have like to have seen coil-overs at all 4 corners vs. the air set-up
As a kid who worked on many backyard projects, I always imagined these jobs requiring a lot more skilled flashlight holders.
I loved the ‘Under-Carriage’ camera. I have often wondered what it looked like when stressed
Is amazing the cain of knowledge you guys have about all this automobiles and parts is second to none 👍
The G body is looking great and best of all sounds and runs beautifully.
In your tips for hauling segments you might want to talk about properly tying the hotrod down,, preferably with the car cinched down tight onto airbags. Just a thought. Thank you POWERNATION for these ABSOLUTELY AWESOME videos!
Now that's a cool build!
OMg I’ve always wanted one of these Hurst Olds 455’s. They were so bad ass looking when I was kid seeing them drive around. So many cars and even the 80’s dodge vans I wish I could own now. Would love a clean mid 80’s dodge b1500 or 2500. I had an 85 2500 and looked awesome but the rust underneath started to take over so I got rid of it. Haven’t found one as nice or worth buying since
So that's where the Grand National came from! ahahaha! rock on! Love these cars!
I grew up with the G-Body. IMO, GM used whatever happened to be laying around as they transitioned into the FWD platforms across the board. They threw all the R&D into the Ponys. Guess they didn't have any Hot Rodders left from the Muscle Era. Give me an "IRAQI TAXI", because I need a moredoor, any day of the week, a few bolt-ons and 30 years of innovation under the hood and I'm a happy camper.
There's a build going on right now over in the G-Body Forum where the guy's transplanting everything from a Camaro to an '83 Malibu Wagon.
Still remember when I went to Olds dealer and did a test drive in one of these. Six years later, I was the owner of a 85’ 442
Booooo, on the rims. The factory chrome are perfect style If you’re going to use your choice, might as well leave off striping. I’ve always believe rims improve a car except in this case.
Well since wheels are only bolt on, you could have use the alloy reproduction 17 inch rallies from Year One. Same style except a little bigger.
he original wheels weren't large enough to clear the upgraded brakes, but I agree the original STYLE was beautiful, and perfect for the styling cues.
✌️🐸💨
FINALLY someone who understands its BETTER to upgrade to modern than redoing retro parts.
This is one sick Hurst Olds Cutlass!
Beautiful car 🚗
Honestly.
I would love to see you run your cars on the strip before and after. I wa sad seeing the 300 be pulled out but I am excited for the SRT4 build.
Love your channel so much!!!
Love this car and build
Grew up with GM cars and loving it. So sad to see how GM has declined these days.
I love to watch when someone who knows what he/she is doing working on old american muscle, it's oh-so different to our european stuff. But when you go back long enough, you'll even find its ancestors in old cars here over the pond. Fascinating.
Just remember, the greatest G body ever made didn't need a V8 to be fast.....
Yeah but it deff helps to have forced induction
That G body design I think was the most futuristic of the '80s. It reminds me of a 2015 Cadillac ATS coupe. I can see the ancestry. 😇
I had the old man version of this car when I was a kid. Couldn't even spin one tire much less both 😂
My uncle has an 84 hurst olds,he said those gold block 350's and 455's were in every junk yard when those cars were brand new. Wishes he squirled a few away back then.
The 1st pull on the track he says it's not that impressive but you can hear it chirping the tires when when he shift. It's not all that bad. I had an 84 Regal with a stock motorhome 350 small block Chevy and a 350 turbo trans with a shift kit and it would chirp the tires also. Certainly not an all out race engine but not bad at all.
1:15:44 Love the build! Everything really looks good, but maybe not the seats. Kinda makes me think of something from the Red Light District. 😲
As a previous owner of an 85, comfortable and luxurious.
What a great build..olds are my favorite someone needs to build a 77.442
Thats what I like, Complete Builds
I wish you guys could fixed my 84 olds hurst keep up the good work
Very nice guys
Already has an overdrive from the factory 2004R that can be built stronger than that 700-R4 and does not need an adapter.
Same thought I had. 200R4 can be built pretty stout and it already had overdrive.
That's 1 good looking G body!!!👍👍
Some bigger stock repos would’ve looked better but I’m not complying. Would love to have that machine, I’ve always had a thing for G Body’s.
My Brother had a 76 Hurst 455 with the Factory 5 speed Manual that He bought Brand New, I was 16 just got my License and a Freshman in Highschool, I'd Drop my Brother off at work at 6am and Drive His car to School Every Day until He GAVE it to Me when I Graduated, DAMN the Girls went CRAZY!
5 speed???
Tommy is so cool and charming, we love you bro
You guys should restore a 1967 impala 4 door hardtop
Love them old G bodies! One of my grandmothers had a Monte Carlo, the other had a Regal, a buddy's mom had a 442, a buddy's dad had a GN, and I dated a girl with a Grand Prix. Did I miss and G bodies? LoL
A Rusty Northeast Vehicle Laughs at Deep Creep.
🏆 keep up the good work 🙏🏾 Wish you guys could help me fix my 84 olds hurst up like this 1
I liked all the makers luxury performance cars from back then. I think the Hurst Olds was my favorite. You didn't see them as often as you did the Monte Carlo SS or the GN.
I love that bootleg version on thunderstruck y’all got in the background 😂
Also the bootleg version of Thunderkiss ‘65
That 700-R4 also comes with a mechanical speedo option
I had a 1976 Olds 4-4-2 with a 455 Rocket and a 3 speed Hurst.
Would of loved if you put the trumpets on the back. Then it would be complete. But looks 👌 good. You guys do a hell of a job
What a beautiful car. I'm not going to lie tho coming from watching true detailing channels like Obsessed Garage, AmmoNYC etc. The fact they they used a dry plastic bag on bare paint with no liquid barrier or the clay bar on the roof for a solid 2.5-3 minutes of talking. I'm being picky tho. Cringy detail aside this is a super cool ride!
Olds are sorely missed.
Cutting that much from front frame to clear air ride looks sketchy as hell. Those frames flexed a ton already but to cut out that much seems insane to me
Yeah, there’s plenty of room to reinforce what was removed. That missing chuck is just asking for a bent frame, esp with 500+ tq. Car is cool otherwise.
This is exactly where having the experience would tell me Hey the car needs little if any actual body work so lets just prep the car for a Base coat clear coat .. 2 stage . So I guess I would have to speak with the Bean counter who produces this show ...AND BEFORE I FORGET..... You really want to have ALL your mechanical work finished PRIOR to any body or paint work .. Do I have to say why ?
Factory Seats I prefer
Більше таких відео. Класно.
Inn the day of all suvs for space I wish some car manufacturers would bring back some 4 door cars like this
Can’t believe you couldn’t engineer a way to keep the air conditioning. I live in Deep South TEXAS🤠
I wish I could get the parts they threw away. One man's junk is another's better parts than he has.
I remember putting a new diff in my V8 Commodore using a block of wood , jack and some spanners..good Times..broke everything except the engine but had a ball.. LoL
Love them G bodies
How they expected that 307 to live up to a 455 is beyond me!!!!!
Espero pronto lo suban en español
11:48 There's a technique I havn't seen in a while, the ol' paint over dirt.
That Cutty looks badass on a tire.🔥😎👍🏾
There's nothing like a g body. Growing up in the nineties all the rich kids had mustangs and camaros.
The poor kids had g bodies
Dupont #44 Jet Black is the best black ever made.
Cool did that in hi school 10:41
Chevy bell housing on an Oldsmobile engine? I don't think so! Come on guys!
An old car like that you need black magic
I like to use oven cleaner for engines and engine bays and since I run run a hot water mobile pressure washing business I crank up the heat to 100C and watch that gunk go away😎
I don't understand why they wouldn't have done the decal removal and replacement after they did the engine and drivetrain swap. It would have made more sense to do the detailing at the end..
Came here looking for this. It seems backwards.
@@matthewsmall6225 exactly..
Need headrests on those seats
At least it was left olds all the way. I have a 73 SS Chevelle- full length body stripes are hard to find / laguna / lS3 , different from SS of 73 77 s .
35:08 it's called soapy wooder my dude
Tommy reminds me of my dad the southern accent the sayings.
That 3 stick shifter is a fun gimmick
I would love to have a set of seats like u took out of the olds for my S10
They bolt right to your seat tracks also👍😉
And it's driveable,... TO GET INTO THE TRAILER 😂
I wish i could work for them so nothing goes wrong while working😂
❤❤❤❤
Beautiful build but why run the exhaust below the rear axle? Those cars have plenty of space to run over the axle

Potential investment!
