Full Build: Turning A 1974 Dodge Dart Into A Pro Street Mopar

- Rick and Tom set their sights on a new project, and they have some pretty hefty plans for an old Mopar. Some might consider it a less desirable model, but the guys just might change your mind when you see what they have in store.

I get stoned and watch the heck out these love these builds
I am with you , I smoke and I could watch for hours
For anyone that doesn't know any better, do *not* use 4 point harnesses. If you need a harness, use a 5 or 6 point harness. With a four point harness in an accident the lap belt can slide up off of your hips (or your body can slide down). This is called 'submarining'. The effect is that the belt cuts into your gut, causing significant internal damage.
I understand they are master builders, but some of the things they talk about and know blows me away , like how do you even know this stuff. I swear it’s crazy!!!
nice job on editing this.. makes it so much better than watching 4000 commercials
Yea it is
Seldom do I watch *any* 2hr vids on YT - but this one had me glued from start to finish! And I ain't even a Dodge fan. Just a pleasure watchin' the mountain of work put into this project.
Beautiful job Gentlemen;Your Craftsmanship is On Point! PROPS!!! ✌
Sweeeeeeeet ride!
2hrs 10min well spent watching this (and drooling).

As a Detroit native ( EastSide ) born & raised I love a vintage dodge being a GM man I respect everything with the mopar old & new
Same here bro, (EastSide as well Morang & Kelly) I got a 74 dart I’m trying to put together now
From Indianapolis but also a GM man but I respect the old school mopars more than the new but that's with cars and trucks in general nothing like the classics my fav being the 64 Chevy 2's a the 69-71 Chevelle's and Nova's
Me too!❤😊
Talk about dream car, when I was 16 anyways.
My first car was a 74' dodge dart sport with a slant 6
Mine *IS* a '75 Gold Duster that *HAD* a slant 6 (I put in a 318).
Mine was a '73 Dodge Dart Sport with the 318 in B3 Super Blue, it also had the hand cranked moonroof. Those were the days, I wish I still had it.
Bruh my first car was a bmw e46 1900cc and i still have it and love it
My first was a 73 Dart Sport slant six. I blew up three six in two years and put a 360 in it. I still have the car, and am waiting for some of my kids to move out so I have the time/money/space to work on it again.
Who else is watching this, and thinking about building something similar 🤔
Seems to happen to all of us.
Unfortunately only a small percentage of us actually do it 😔
The choice of Willow Green really set the car off, and of course the Blacked out HEMI on the bonnet just adds that finishing touch.
Really enjoyed watching the build.👍
First time watcher: I have never before had the pleasure of watching and Greatly Enjoying watching three egoless men giving great "info", and enjoying themselves!! CHERRES !! "HJ" Martin
Thicc Bacon and Baullz-Deep Bosherz is AT IT AGIN!!!
Run the cage through the dash and hug the A pillar. Much nicer install than running it outside the dash.
how do you do that while keeping the dash remove able

As someone who knows practically nothing, I’m definitely in the 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing' zone, I have to give credit to Powernation for how they explain things. I normally watch these videos on my bedside tv when I can’t sleep through pain. The good is they take my mind off the pain, the bad is I can't comment to say how much I enjoy them.
Sorry for all the pain, hope it goes away and not permanent.
i agree. they do a service by explaining their processes. for ex. , i never knew that flux was for copper only or there where different combinations of flux.
I know exactly how you feel.

God I used to watch this show on weekend mornings in the mid 2000's
A sublime green MOPAR with a hemi is America at its finest. 🇺🇸
INDEED
That engine is HUGE!!! Just go down a couple of inches "crash bang!! " we,re in. :)
The blower is huge 450 ci per revolution from the 8-71 weirdness kit with a 7 liter built hemi. It’s amazing now that you can make more horsepower in an engine a 1/3 of that size.I didn’t realize how big the belts were back then. In my car I use a 65mm pulley on my supercharged lakers. Couldn’t imagine the gas mileage prolly like 5 miles per gallon
Love these A body Mopars, Had a 340 Demon 👿 back in the early 80s. Wish I still had it today! 😒
I had a little Valiant with 273 hi po and 4spd....loved that little car.....swapped it for a 396 67 SS maro....wish I had either one now....
i'm glad u guys are driving that...after seeing the welds i wouldn't even let my worst enemy in it
Damn, I am watching this for like the third time and it just hit me! There are some amazing views of the Stephens Junk yard that could EASILY BE "pics" for an amazing calendar. Doubt me? The camera man already proved the point with his stop at 37:10, tell me I am wrong. Perfection.
The skill and scope you guys have is awesome even better no dramas just steady as she goes NICE .
I'm a Mopar man myself, I put a 440 in a 1963 dodge truck back in the 80s, I had automatic with duel exhaust.
I had a slant 6 in it originally. Boy was it fast!
This Dodge is absolutely amazing! I could only hope to have a beauty like this. Y'all went the whole way making this car perfect in every way possible! 👌
I really like the presenters on this channel. There is no hype or fate enthusiasm. They just present you with what they are doing and do it. It's very instructional without being patronizing. It's very well balanced. You have a new subscriber. I will definitely mention this to my friends.
Well met :-)
Hynjj
Yo
I had a 1963 Dodge Dart as my first car. I enjoyed your presentation of this build. I always enjoyed wrenching my own stuff, but don't do it anymore. Thanks for getting me fired up on it again.
Someone pulled that daytona out of there and restored it, look up stephens performance daytona to see the pics
Frames too bent and messed up.
Edit- and theres not like there new roofs and rear body structure, front structure really avalible honestly, and at that point your gonna have to do a lot more body tube add on to help hold it all togeather, over time if its just weld on new peice your body will start bowing at those points. So might as well just make a tube car, and set the body peices on it :/. And then you can just get carbon fiber molds and have a tube car, with a carbon body, and put that daytona vin plate on it and boom, there ya go.
Thank you for doing a MOPAR.
Thanks for the instructional video! It taught me a lot of things that I can do to my Duster now…😃👍
Tommy: a little closer to what you might be building at home.
Rick: pretty much swapping out the entire drivetrain.
Me: You guys are a little unclear on the concept of "building at home".
Plenty of these things were built at home. Especially back when Pro Street began.
@@johnderekmitchell1510 And I did a lot of wrenching back in the late '70s early '80s. NOBODY I knew swapped out an entire drivetrain! We dealt with what we had. Nobody had the kind of money to throw away an engine and transmission. The guys at powernation are spoiled. Even today this does not represent what I would "build at home". I stand by what I said. They're unclear on the concept.
Unless your home is the workshop☺

It was great to see the build in its entirety well done guys.
Yeah too many shows about builds just leave you hanging...I'm looking at you Stacey David.
I was one of those kids on the sidewalk, I believe it was an Oldsmobile 442 w/spoiler that shook the sidewalk.. All my friends were just as excited as I was. I also remember seeing a Dodge Charger Daytona for the first time, now that car left an indelible impression on me as well.. lol Great memories..
Wow Guys, I watched the entire build and I have to Say I enjoyed every second of it. Awesome Car, and Beautiful Paint Job.

Awesome build! Well done. Enjoyed very minute. Had one '74 Duster and one '72 Demon 340, 4 speed, in the mid 80's. Brings back lots of memories.

Great job fellas...my late father had a 1970 Plymouth Duster and I WISH we still had that car! Again...great build!
You guys are so totally amazing. First time watching your channel, and a couple things I really like is that you or fast forward through some of the processing but you explain everything that you are doing. It is so fantastic to see the process from the beginning to the end in one video.!

When he says “we’re plantin’ seeds” that’s the most accurate thing I’ve ever heard😂
My uncle had a Dodge Dart Swinger. My grandmother drove a yellow black striped 340 Cuda with a shaker hood that my other uncle gave her when he was deployed.
Love that mean ass dart nice ride.
Love it! My Grandpa had an old Plymouth Duster (early 70's model, dont remember exactly what year), I loved that thing, tried to talk Grandma into selling it to me after he passed back in the early 80's but she told me she aint selling it to no family member because it wouldn't cause nothing but problems. I did buy an old 72 Plymouth Valiant from my Grandma & Grandpa on the other side back in the early 90's and drove that old thing damn near to the wheels fell off though. It was a funky 4 door with a slant six but them old engines would run forever! I would still love to get a hold of an old Duster! Wound up buying a a new 2015 Challenger Scat Pack though to try to fulfill my cravings for a Mopar Muscle car but it still aint the same, still plan to get one of those old 70's models one of these years before I bite the dust!
It's a shame that this generation ain't into muscle cars and especially old beautiful muscle cars . it's 2021 and if I had the chance I'd trade it for any car that was built anywhere from 1979 to 1950's car because the metal in them car's back then were life saves if you ask me . Thank you for sharing this built with us America is number one !!!
A lot of younger car guys just can't afford them. It's much easier for them to buy a newer subaru/honda that already runs, has a/c and other basic options, rather than buying a muscle car in need of restoration for the same price.
Bro? That thing fired right up, that's not a project, that's a done deal, you just added a little extra flavor.
Fantastic upload, you guys are awesome builders with a breadth of knowledge that is rare these days.
My dad had this when I was a kid. Never knew why he loved it until now.
Got to love them darts.
I love A-bodies! I had a 69 GTS that I put into the 10's with a 340 and a whole lotta money. I think we ALL have that car that we wish we had never sold. THAT was just ONE of them.
Did he just open and close this guys front door for him 😂😂😂
too much script
He was like, uhhhhhh alrighty i had to go pee but yea we could go check out the car...
lol he did
lol IKR not only that he swung his head around the door and within a foot of the guys face like he was gonna give him a kiss
Besides the beer and bbq, power nation was always the favorite part of my weekend!!
I used to work in a body shop, and I have repaired ans recovered seats. It is NOT easy, but it feels good to see a completed job where you can't tell the seats have been recovered. My nightare job was a Volvo where the side airbag was deployed. It not only tore the side of the leather seat cover, but also twisted the frame and dameged the foam. Took a long time, but it looked great when I was done. (I also used some of the old leather cover to recover my 25 year old rolling shop stool...LOL!)
That Green self etching primer they are using is super good paint. It's extremely high in Zinc oxide. Great stuff
This is from 2012... wow
For marking your rim for 12 bead lock screws you can use a set of dividers, possibly after you make some, opened up to the radius of the bolt circle. The dividers will evenly walk around the rim 6 times. Measure the midpoint between any two marks and walk the dividers around a second time for a dozen holes. This also works to get 6 pieces of pie without needing Pi. An old Cooper's barrel trick.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who does the hood the same way on my blower builds
Awesome build.

I usually tell guy's like this too bounce before they insult me. . I price things like I would like to pay . But someone always tries to act like a know it all and they lose out. But t thankfully there's always been someone that can appreciate the honest price and we can make a decent deal when both are happy
I bought my $700 72 Dumpster way back in 91 back when it wasnt kool for skool to build these Duster/Demons/Darts. Everybody wanted the Challengers/Cudas/Stangs and Super Sports. I also didnt have a bunch of advertisers giving me free shit, but I had a blast any way with my lil slightly modded $900 318 Wedge with a Carter 4bbls, 904 and an 8 3/4" to get the power to the ground. . Great Times!
I didn't know that David Crosby builds race cars.

Love these documentaries on muscle car builds. Great entertainment.
Excellent soldering instructions. People need to learn this.
Haven't watched it yet, a real valid point was made.
I own a '75 Dart Sport. Found it on accident. I was chasing a '67 notchback and Google maps blew it big. I was in Portland, Oregon not Massachusetts.
I know all the Duster stuff from owning them, and she seemed bigger, better sounding, and felt wonderfully better driving her. They are the overlooked child.
And now I watch the video, and thank you in advance for doing this video, just not a lot out there for those of us who have one, and nope, it ain't a Duster for sure...
Great build, great car, really addictive viewing. Thanx guys, greetings from the UK.

I love watching the builds but I wish they would spend more time with the car after it's finished. We get hours worth of content on the build but only a few minutes of the car after its finished. It would be cool to see this car go to the track for some shake down runs and then setup a few races with a few fans cars or even a few of the other cars that the other power block shows built.

Such a cool build, and different. Sure it's a Mopar, but it's not what everyone expects automatically, like a Charger...Challenger...or even a Superbird. And it absolutely is breathtaking.

Loved the build. More Mopar please!
Had 72 Duster that had the nickname of the rolling coffin back in the 80's in high school up in Detroit, Warren MI. That thing would go sideways on a snowflake and I spun it out a few time that I can't believe we didn't get killed. The dude I sold it to wrapped it around a telephone pole and they ended up ok but that thing was not set up to hug the road.
