Zodiac (2007) is the first example of a Things You Missed™ episode that is based entirely on a work of non-fiction, but that doesn't stop the movie from being suspenseful, scary and downright creepy.
In this video I'll cover the motivation for every on screen appearance of the Zodiac, from the unseen Lake Herman Road footage, to the Blue Rock Springs occurrence, to the ominous Lake Berryessa event and the end of the life of Paul Stein in Presidio Heights at Washington and Cherry St.
I'll also cover some of the amazing details you might have overlooked. Great lengths are taken to preserve authenticity, and many of them remain unappreciated. The movie took the source material so seriously, that it actually ended up having an impact on the real life case.
The Zodiac was also theorized to be a fan of movies, so of course, director David Fincher filled this biopic with meaningful film references and connections, including a couple callbacks to his earlier films.

About Things You Missed
These videos point out some of the little details you may have missed in your favorite horror franchises as I analyze their meaning and why they are noteworthy. I'll breakdown every small detail, easter egg, reference, connection, motif, cameo, callback and homage that I can find! Typically, I'll cover Things You Missed in horror movies, and Things You Missed in horror film trailers.

Now he's starting to look like Shaggy
Shag and Scoob will unmask the Zodiac lol
Zoinks broo
Ruh-rohhh
I am in mobile and accidentally scrolled down and couldn’t see the screen and only your comment. I was thinking you meant the musical artist for some reason. I am glad I was wrong. Also yeah I see it though.
If shaggy went mid 2000s emo
The movie organist was the creepiest and most suspicious character in the movie.
- “Oh, that handwriting that’s the closest match to the zodiac killer, that’s mine”
- “you wanna come into my deep dark basement thats existence is related to something the zodiac killer said?”
- “Don’t mind me, just reciting exactly when the first suspected murder was committed”
- “Let me unlock the door for you as you scramble away while I slowly walk ominously from the basement and say goodbye in the most unfazed and unsettling way”
I didn’t understand this part of the movie. Why didn’t they follow up on this guy as a potential suspect?
@@harrywaller6793 Probably because it was dramatized for the sake of the movie. There probably was an interview with the organist, but it definitely wasn't as suspicious as the way it was presented here
I believe Vaughn was in on it with Arthur Leigh Allen.
@@harrywaller6793I believe it’s just a representation of his paranoia resulted from his obsession.
Because based on a true story only means it's mostly BS.
The scene with the couple at the lake where they get stabbed always stayed with me. It was so raw and it was very disturbing.
It seemed so real because it was in day a lot of time in horror movies people are killed at night it’s like watching a movie and then someone knocks on your door and shoots you
agreed.
Notice how there was no music during that scene. It made it feel more real.
From a trauma standpoint if the the Police had immediately put her in the patrol car and transported her to the hospital she would have had a better chance of survival.
The Ambulance took over 30 minutes to respond and in that time she suffered hypovolemic shock.
Ambulance Service's could not administer blood in those days so Load and Go would have been their best chance of surviving the attack.
It felt so real because the attention to detail was so great. People don't scream when getting stabbed. They actually struggle to breath. I know from experience unfortunately. The film got details like that right. That's why it stuck with you.
Just watched this with my father.. really underrated movie.. love your videos
Seriously. I looked it up and it's the lowest box office for a Fincher movie. It should be near the top though!
I love this movie it's so good
Plot twist: Your father is the Zodiac
Go Eagles!

To me, the most interesting thing that everyone misses is that different actors play the zodiac killer in different scenes, due to the suspicion that the were actually multiple “zodiac” killers at play (not necessarily working together, just all active at the time). Fincher does quote himself a lot, and he will use the same actors for these small bit pivotal roles. Two of the zodiacs were in fight club (one played the airport security guard who told Edward Norton his bag was vibrating, the other was the doctor who told him to chew valerian root and go to the testicular cancer meeting-he also plays the delivery guy with the box at the end of se7en).
Very interesting tidbit. I'm struggling to remember how many scenes he appeared in. The most vivid is obviously the picnic scene and the opening, then when he cuts off the cabbie's shirt. The driver who threatened the mother and the caller were both false, IIRC.
The show that documented the detectives cracking the identity cypher had 2 excellent suspects that are equally viable. They showed his letters and I found it odd how different his spelling and intelligence varies. It's so bad at times it looks like an internet troll trying to feign inability to spell. They never brought it up but that's either 2 people or schizophrenia.
Lol. We never see anyone in the first killing. The second killing he's completely covered. How would anyone be able to tell if we never see them, lol?
Bob Stephenson was the airport guard in Fight Club and also played Zodiac #3. His photo is in the lineup in the final scene, the “round face.”

It could also point to the fact that they had no idea who it was and perhaps the victims descriptions might have differed slightly changing what he looks like every time on-screen. But it is dumb to say it's something everyone misses when it's not obvious at all, and the only way you know is by interviews
My aunt was working in SF during this. My dad told me that her manager would escort the women out early to personally see them get on a bus home and my granny would go meet her at her stop, bringing the family dog with her. He also said on one night when they were walking back, the dog started barking and growling at some bushes. They didn’t see anything or anyone nor heard anything but hurried along.
God bless that dog. They can sense things!
Dogs do bark at a lot of shit. A lot of shit that's not even human.
Paranoia. Was it justified, sure. But I'm willing to bet it wasn't the zodiac.
This is legitimately one of my favorite movies
I'm never not in the mood to watch Zodiac.
CZsWorld can you do a video of ester colman from orphan aka / lena clemor
@@CZsWorld i just wish it wasnt based on what that fraud graysmith said. he even lied about his name on the cover of the book
The Riddler in the new Batman movie looks exactly like the Zodiac Killer
Pretty sure that's what there going for
Bs
Hint hint
I think it’s intentional. The Riddler uses cryptography like Zodiac too.
@@QnzColdest facts
Someone looks like hes fresh out of high school...🤣
And I just found it on netflix. SCORE!
🙏
The amount of editing and research really shows in these videos thx you for all your hard work. I hope everything going well and your not working to hard keep up the amazing work.
This movie was exquisite. One of my favorites. I loved the different ways they portrayed the killer … it was cool and apparently accurate.
Could u do more pet sematary horror history’s like jud Rachel and louis
Yessssssssssss
Great job!
Dude I just binged all of ur vids the last 2 days.
I can't wait for more horror things you didn't know.
So intriguing.
When I watched this movie the scene at the lake where the two people get stabbed was so scary and raw that it stuck with me for all these years. I couldn't watch the movie ever again. Well it popped up in my netflix recommendation section....gonna try it again. 😬 wish me luck. Lol
It's crazy that movie producers, directors, and screenwriters for this movie have better journalistic integrity than actual "journalists" today. Good video
That's because they're not journalists.
Doesn't mean there aren't any good journalists.
I just got done binging your recent videos and then saw this! Hell yes!!
“I’m talking about SuH 7...” 😂😆
Suh 7 en lol
I thought my computer was lagging. Haha
Are CZcams notifications actually working for once or am I hallucinating
I assumed they just gave up making them work.
Awesome video! I love Zodiac but I never knew how much detail went into it!
Zodiac is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time. David Fincher is a genius. If he doesn't come back for Mindhunter season 3...I'll be so upset!
😭
Mark Ruffalo wearing the navy turtleneck is 100% a reference to McQueen who based Frank Bullitt off Toschi. So Ruffalo's paying homage to McQueen who was paying homage to Toschi lol
Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. Great video! 👍
I remember the first time I watched this movie I was around 10 years old, my parents didn't allow me to watch it actually, so I had steal glances from the above the stairs. The second time I was already 14 or 15 so I was able to watch more of it but I was always unable to watch it fully, since I relayed on cable tv to watch it and there was no pay per view at that time, or maybe there was but was way too expensive, also, my parents would have bought a horror/thriller movie. So finally in January of this year I was able to watch it from beginning to end and damn I loved it, creepy, real and brilliant, it kept me on my sit and watching this now makes me want to re-watch it. Thank you for the video.
I’ve gotten hooked on your horror analysis videos. I would love to hear your thought on the story/characters from the Hannibal Lecter movies.
I know people aren’t so fond of this one for its lack of gore and slow burn pacing, but I absolutely loved it. ❤️
I love Thing You Missed! How do you not have a million subs yet?
PERFECT video review Mr CZs world ✌️ as always 🙏
Damn dude the subs are really getting up there! Watching the growth of this channel since I subbed way back when has been amazing. Keep up the great work! 🖤
I discovered your channel with the screen rant thing. Love your work dude. So happy you did a video on this movie.
So I'm going through a stage of binging all your videos and everything I start a new one you have had a different hairstyle every. single. time. haha and you just rock them my guy !!!! Great vids man looking forward to the next one !!
First got hooked on CZs World with Things You Missed; now I won't miss anything from CZ
This was interesting to learn about, especially about the case reopening.
I think it was mostly to make the SFPD look like they were trying, but interesting nonetheless.
@@CZsWorld Yeah.
Amazing! i always liked the movie but i didnt knew the respect they had for the case, thats awesome. As always, ur the best of my quarantine dude
This creeped me out because I literally watched this film yesterday
Same I will see something I just seen now and then I’ll see it again it weird
So did I. Pretty bland.
One of my all time favorite movies. I usually don't go to horror for non-fiction stories but this was a must watch along with The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
I'm new to your channel I absolutely love how you do your videos man great job
This guy is looking like shaggy more and more everyday
The zodiac killer case has always intrigued me.
Great content.
First time I've watched your channel. Really good stuff
I was not ready for CZ with longish hair
I've been hiding it under Cubs hats.
The last time I was so early corona was a drink
,😂✌️
10 months then
And a city in California
oh man it made me SO happy at 8:02 when you said "se-seven-en" -- I've tried to make that joke to like a dozen "friends" over the years and just, like... crickets...
Love your channel bro ❤️
I always thought that the zodiac could of been more than one person. Great video btw. This is one of my favorite movies.
Watched this again like 2 days ago! Trippy! When that guy says he made the posters is by far the most intense!
My favorite fincher film, the basement scene is so tense
What. He made Se7en and you like this better?!
They both masterpieces but zodiacs a little better
Dude! Your videos are great.
One of my favorite films of all-time.
One of his other previously unsolved ciphers was solved almost 2 weeks ago, the 340 Cipher
You know it's really scary when you lived in these areas and can spot places and like they happened, it's crazy. My mom remembers this going on
Another great video! Loving the shaggy cut.
I've been watching this channel since "IT" 2017 and man these videos just keep getting better
Thanks for supporting me all this time!
Holy crap you replied! This made my day
Hey czsworld I’ve been watching your videos feels like years. Big fan; what does czs is czsworld mean?
Oh dude! When you upload it’s going to be a good day!
who else is watching this because the cipher got broken yesterday? :D
Thanks for sharing
just discovered your channel love it can you please do more king lore
I shall!
I really enjoyed this film. It's nice to see that they tried to make it as factual as possible. Also, cant wait for Gone Girl. That movie's fucking insane and I'm sure I missed a lot of stuff.
Also, also can we get more Stephen King stuff? That's what led me to your channel, and it's hard to find any decent videos on his material (films or books). Your history of videos are my favorite that I've found. I want like every Stephen King adaptation ever covered 😂
Yep, there will be more King stuff for sure!
I love the way you say "Seven".
Great video
DID YOU ALWAYS HAVE THAT BURNING BACKGROUND?
These fires always seem to happen around this time of year.
@@CZsWorld ah remember when the skies were blue
I like how this released a few days after Ted Cruz Supreme Court nomination
Nice catch 😂
Awesome! Can you make a horror history of Get Out next?
I love how the whole world is under fire behind your home but you are just like
Meh on to the zodiac..............
I love the movie and watched it many times over the years, they have done it an excellent job re telling the story.
cant wait for screen rant to steal this
Amazing vid
i love all your videos and i love your hair. Can you cover all videos on Crypt Tv?
One of these "movies you definitely have to see" that i have seen already
It's kinda really long but kinda good
Whenever I watch it it feels short because the pace is so fast.
I love libraries! Quiet, ominous, full of mystery. This was a great video! Deep rabbit hole.......
Love your background CZ! Looks like you live in Portland 🤔
It's actually just another day in California.
I watched this last month, I loved it a lot
Okay this is fantastic
Came from ur comments on dax flame videos lol, liking ur content.
Haha that's awesome. Dax is the greatest.
Perfect film. Underrated!
I'd like to see you do a Horror History of Constantine from *Monster House*
This serial killer case is fascinating
My mother swears she once saw thr Zodiac killer while walking in Oakland in thr 80s. She also seriously suspected a friend of hers of being Unabomb, he was an alum of UC Berkeley and had started expressing views similar to Unabomb.
What a coincidence that this came out the same day as a Film Theory that also heavily involves Se7en and Zodiac
Absolutely love this movie!! First time I watched it I started researching the Zodiac murders. Keep up the good content!!
Your hair looks wonderful 💇💇🏽💇♂️💇🏽♂️
I'm gonna need to rewatch this. Really rewatch everything Fincher did except Alien cubed
Loved this film.
Hey Cz’s world team so I just watched this horror movie called Antebellum and while I was watching I was a bit confused by any chance you can watch it and give us an explanation video plus any Easter eggs we missed on it? Thank you btw I love watching all of your horror Easter egg explained contents 🙏🏾💙✨
Do more horror history
Bro he actually replied😀😆😆
Ok
@@CZsWorld you should do a horror history on stephen king
Maybe a simple one like the history of the corn field on children of the corn or something from that book...it’s 40 pages
This movie is like a godamn documentry MY GOD
i know ive seen it like 15 times
Sesevenen. 😂 Gets me every time.
One of my favourite movies!
Clint Eastwood! These young kids now-a-days won't understand what good movies are or actors. Many underrated films back in the day. Sad
Really great film
4:55-Nice! Your face acting is good! 😂🤣🤓
Masterpiece
love the hair
I was never under the impression that brightburn was a horror. Hell it was marketed "what if superman was evil?". I mean i guess that could be scary to some people
it's very much meant to be a horror film, it's a super hero slasher film. I definitely don't think it deserved the shade that got thrown at it
You goated bruh
We neeeeeeeeeeeeed horror history of The Dead Zone. Johnny Smith and Greg Stillson are perfect for this show.
Best videos, best channel.
Thanks King!
CZsWorld Yeah, man! I can’t wait to watch “The Shining” again this Halloween and send you unsolicited videos of impressions during!
gray smith likes movies he knew all the metaphors and clues maybe
gray smith was the zodiac killer since he had so many similarities
Love that he's really leaning into the Shaggy look, lol
