IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAFEST ROOM... David Fincher's fifth feature film, Panic Room, is a tense, dread-filled horror/thriller that contains many often-overlooked details, like the tie in with legendary horror author Edgar Allan Poe, several connections to his second film, Se7en, symbolic camerawork, creative editing, generally unknown cameos and more.
Whenever you talk about Panic Room, it's hard not to discuss the ending, and many are left confused. There's a scene late in the movie where police show up to Meg's door, but she has to send them away without raising the alarm to ensure her daughter's safety with the burglars.
But the cop she talked to didn't believe that everything was OK, so I'll also be breaking down all of the clues that he could he could have used and all the subtle hints Meg gave during that conversation. I'll be doing my best FoundFlix to try to provide a little "ending explained."

This is one of my favorite movies. Not because it scared me as a child but because I respect the film strategies and choices
Poe also wrote "the cask of amontillado", it's not focused on claustrophobia but there are definitely some common themes, and it's a great story!

A young Kristen Stewart (I think she was 15 or younger) also preformed wonderfully in a movie called “Speak”
If you haven’t seen it, I suggest you watch it.
Maybe I’m a little biased because I loved the movie as a teenager. But I still think it holds up great.

Yeah unfortunately she gave up acting. I believe this was her last movie. She did Taxi Driver, Silence of the Lambs, gave up acting for a bit, came back and did this, and then gave it up again. She wanted to live a normal life. I'm sure I'm missing movies she did in different places but those are the movies I know of hers

Panic room was the perfect movie for kristen Stewart. She's in a diabetic coma for half the movie.
In all seriousness though, this movie is underrated and kristen Stewart is underrated because of her portrayal of a poorly written character (seriously she played bella exactly as bella was written).
She is cringy though

Seeing one for Kingdom Hospital would be awesome. I've got the mini-series on DVD and the only piece I am missing is the middle act. I got the opening episodes and the final ones. Though, I think it unintentionally set up Jodelle Ferland for a bit of type-casting in horror and thriller flicks. But, CZ, whenever you can get to it, that would be awesome as heck. Also, I adore ya, but I cringe every time you say the title for 'Se7en', but I remember that my OCD is kicking in and distract myself. *bad experience with someone who didn't like being "corrected" once...didn't say a word to them {literally}, but that toxic ex-friend dug their way into a corner anyway). Sorry if I ranted...I tend to do that sometimes... *thumbs up* Good work, CZ my dude.

Jarrod Leto flips off the camera I couldn’t stop laughing
I watched this movie after watching the first twilight movie and was shocked at the amazing performance of Stewart, I thought "fuck she lost her chance" but now I think she was doing the best she could with trash. Specially after I tried to swallow the book and let me say, is worse than trash, so the movie was quite true to the book. The same thing happened with Robert Patterson and his most recent jobs, you can see she has grown as an actress and knows well how to perform in thrillers, or dramas specially. Personal Shopper is creepy as hell, I loved the horror and thrill in Underwater, Lizzie was definitely interesting and cool, the Messenger too, there's many movies she has done that can easily bury 6ft under that horrible vampire movie, and I'm glad. Cause she was brilliant as a child actor in this movie, and I'm glad she didn't lose her chance.
For the longest time this was the only thing I could stand her in. Underwater was really good and I loved her look so I think I’m slightly changing my mind lol

I know this comment is from a few months ago, but young Kristen Stewart (think she was 15) also preformed wonderfully in a movie called “Speak”, if you haven’t seen it I suggest you watch it. (Also suggest you read the book it was based off of) but warning; it’s about a “certain kind” of assault & how she dealt with it.
Maybe I’m a little biased, because I loved the book & then the movie so much as a young teenager. But I still think it holds up great.

Ur right, panic room is unappreciated for god knows why! One of my favorite thrillers of all time! Forrest Whittaker and dwight yokam and even Leto were a great band of villians with different levels of evil and motivations! I really like Dwight yokam as an actor!
P.S. the way the cinematographer describe the movie sounded more like battleship!! HAHA!

Something else you missed is that diabetes doesn't have a timer that causes you to pass out once your meter finishes counting down to low. I always talk about this movie and Con Air for hilarious treatment of diabetes.
I was thinking the same, who needs glucose meters or strips when you have that magical timer lol But it was effective in creating suspense tho, so I'm fine with that.

I think it's called a panic room because it's a safe place to go when you're panicking lol. Anyway, I always thought that panic rooms were equipped with phones that were not connected to the landline of the main house so they wouldn't be affected by the phone lines being cut
They make a note of that in this movie, but she didnt set up the phone yet and burham knows that from his work as she needs a special company!

I think he would have got caught anyway. He was stupid enough to wear his name tag and the police would have eventually found out that he worked for "Manhattan Security". It would just have taken them some time to connect the dots. Also, can't the police track the bonds ?

Panic Room should also be released in 4k too. As of right now, I don't think that any of David Fincher's movies have been released in 4K. Which is surprising, seeing that he wants to make his movies look as good as he can, and 4k will definitely makes his movies look even better.

Don't forget that the cops also had some complaints from neighbors about 'loud noises or shouting'. She says it was the t.v. but it's not unlikely that as soon as things popped off again, they probably called the cops.

The reference to Poe (the musician) is interesting because her brother is the author of House of Leaves, which shares some of the themes of Panic Room; and her father directed a movie adaptation of No Exit. Probably not intentional, but it might be as House of Leaves had come out pretty recently before the movie.
