In my last episode of Things You Missed I mentioned that the Zodiac case is closing, and the Amy Dunne case is opening, and to signify this, the cop who discovers the first clue in Gone Girl is played by the same actor as Mike Mageau from Zodiac. Gone Girl (2014) is also filled with hidden symbols, secrets and easter eggs and connections to the hit novel by Gillian Flynn.
In this video I'll be going through the movie and breaking down EVERYTHING you might have missed: including secret connected websites and phone numbers, visual symbols that foreshadow later events, inside info that only those who have read the book would understand, and small details that you'd be unlikely to pick up while watching the film. There's also a secret linked website, not quite a full on Gone Girl ARG, but something interesting to investigate nonetheless.
This video is the latest in my series of Things You Missed™ in horror-thriller type movies directed by David Fincher, so I'll also be talking about the many connections to his other movies, including Se7en, Fight Club, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Zodiac.
#GoneGirl #GillianFlynn
About Gone Girl
Directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn -- unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne off his wife?

As someone who read the book 4 times, watched the movie over 10 times since 2015 and memorized the cool girl monologue, I really appreciate this video.
Get a life?
#dedication
I'm on my third read through 😊
finally, someone like me 🫶🏻
Um...you even look like her. Like Amy Dunne. 😮
I remember Jodi Foster saying in an interview that in a Fincher film, every single shot was meticulously planned out and perfect. Also that they could do upwards of thirty five takes for a small scene...and that he was one of the few directors that made that acceptable. Starting to understand what she meant. Good work.
The cheating was honestly the stick that broke the camel’s back, he also took up all her money, took her away from the place she loved living without even asking her, kept trying to push her into doing things she didn’t wanna do, in the book he admitted he hit her, and was emotionally abusive, on top of the general neglect and disregard. The cheating was honestly just exactly what she should’ve expected but never saw coming.
when i first watched it i was quite disturbed, i also tried to justify all of this thinking he deserved it. And maybe he does too,,but i do think it was not completely abt him. I feel she was always trying to portray a character(even tho she despised amazing amy,she kinda wanted to be that perfect( like how strongly she despised couples who had any prblms in their marriage).i feel like her husband kinda never knew the real her,the deep insecurities or maybe he didnt keep those in mind even after knowing. She was always let down by her parents since young age,so when she found her husband she expected that life would be all rainbows and sunshine. Wht he did was disgusting,bt i think her revenge was a result of all the 'unfair' things she went through her life. Also i feel like if it was any other girl w a diff childhood she wouldn't hve gone to ths extreme
Incest?
I think you are neglecting one of the most important piece of the movie where it kind of portrays the reason why he stopped loving her and wanted the divorce and why exactly he couldn’t. She did the same thing to both of her ex boyfriends meaning that she was always a psychopath and manipulator, loving torturing man for her own pleasure (long before she even met her husband). When we find out the first ex-boyfriend story we know that she reported him for rape and literally ruined his entire life as he was saying and according to his story she staged it but we had no proof until we saw the murder of her second ex (where she did exactly the same thing to a guy that did nothing wrong to her, in fact he helped her). This proved that she was always a psychopath and enjoyed manipulating other man and then when gets bored destroy their life with her lies. It is also mentioned a couple of times in the movie by him and his sister as well the first ex-boyfriend that she is a control freak and that this control was making him lose his mind. However, whenever other people talked about her she was perceived as perfect, kind generous which means only the people who truly knew how bad she was were avoiding her and far away from her life. We hear Margo (his sister) saying at the beginning of the movie that she never liked her at all (at that moment no reason is specified - but it shows that there was always something wrong with his wife or at least something sketchy). We also hear in the movie that he tried to ask her for the divorce couple of times but he just couldn’t do it at the end (she was perceived as a perfect person, so everybody would hate him and blame him, when in reality he started to see the real her and did not like what he was finding out). His love for her stopped. So, he fell in love with another girl. Now, the choice of new girl is terrible.
Now, before you attack me, i do not support cheating at all in real life especially with someone who is so much younger like in his case - his student. However, im specifically talking about movie and only movie and how they tried to explain the story. And this what is written above is how I understood it. Also, if she found out about him cheating - just talk, divorce, move -> those are the normal and expected things to do not fake your own death and run away even from your own parents and causing them to grief and all that.
They are both unreliable narrators and generally terrible people. I can never seem to pick side.
incest? They were close siblings and nothing of that sort.
First!
Gone Girl is totally a horror movie. It's psychological torture at its best x
Any movie involving relationships really should count.
Not first at all
@@Juggaliath Looked like I was gonna be at the time 😂 All in good fun x
@killer Queen A very good crime thriller too! I like the reading of it as a horror though, the psychological torture is very interesting alongside the thriller aspect x
@@hotpinkcrayolas that makes it a psychological thriller! If you’ve seen parasite, that too is a thriller. Thrillers aren’t less scary. They just don’t try and actually make you jump out of your skin. It’s more a slow burn of the flesh.
Bruh, who says that Gone Girl isn't a horror movie?!
I'm more scared of Amy Dunne than Pennywise
That’s interesting.
Because Amy Dunnes really exist
Well,Pennywise can turn into Amy Dunne so….there’s that
@@sonictennyson2201 he then gets her manipulative abilities, and seductive skills as well lol
Because you're more likely to meet an "Amy Dunne" than you are to meet a "Pennywise." Psychopathy is real!
hey there! a quick note on the 13:54 EE, "Nolan" is actually Gillian Flynn's Husband's last name (Brett Nolan) whose name she actually uses in all her books to name some random secondary character. it makes sense that she wanted to include it on the movie as well. As another funfact, the name of Nick's lawyer, Tanner Bolt, is an anagram of Brett Nolan :)
Your too underrated man
I appreciate it! 💀
True tho
100%
*You're
KEEP IT UP!
7:43 in the library when he says "Only Elizabeth Bennet understands you" was a reference to Rosamund Pike's previous role as Jane in 2005 Pride and Prejudice
My favorite thriller, one of fave movies ever. I thought about the script, the tropes, the lighting... so much. As an artist, anthropologist, activist... thought about this story so much. Now I'm reading the book. It's amazing.
As a Missourian, any movie that has a reference or takes place in Missouri makes me excited
Probably the most exciting part of living there.
as also a show-me rep, i think tom sawyer said it best, "as they say in missouri, i ain't goin' back to missouri!"
Living near the area it was shot is honestly just something special
Btw, I mean I live near Cape Girardeau, where some of this was shot
i live in the town it was filmed at!
YOU ARE UNDERATED THATS WHY SCREENRANT COPY PASTED YOUR VIDEO THINKING WE WONT NOTICE BUT WE DID AND PLEASE CONTINUE WITH THESE AMAZING VIDEOS WE ARE WATCHING
Did ya have caps lock on?
or it could possibly be a bot and comments about it on every video or they could have just forgotten to turn off caps lock
Screen rant sucks. They do this to a lot of small channels. We should report
You're still killing me with that Se7en pronunciation haha
I'm so glad you covered Gone Girl, it's one of my favorite movies! I didn't get around to watching it until after quarantine started, but man, I was immediately obsessed after my first watch.
Confession: Gone Girl pretty much exposed this weird flaw I have when it comes to watching movies like this. As bizarre as this was, all legitimate criticism I have is immediately disregarded because of the director. It happened here and again with Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
Going back to the end of the video, I’d actually like to see your take on some of Guillermo del Toro’s movies - specifically, Pan’s Labyrinth. I still get nightmares over it 😖
omg this! i love pan's labyrinth
I only watched Pan's Labyrinth once...once...I could never watch it again....
Oh yeah! I'd love to see Mama's connection with the Spanish Ghost Story: La Llorona or Crimson Peak's connection with the French Fairytale: Bluebeard!
I appreciate the big effort you put into your videos so much! I found your channel through your videos on IT and i stayed for the high quality content, love for movies and chill personality.
Glad you're enjoying the channel! 🎈
CZsWorld ❤️yes!
When Amy turns her head at the end of the movie, her eyes are like shark eyes.
One Thing You Missed in Your (awesome) Gone Girl Video:
The point of the Twain references! Huckleberry Finn is the first novel with turning point device of disenfranchised central character meticulously faking own death to gain freedom, aka vengeance on oppressor(s).
Everything else on point though, so we can forgive your Tom Sawyering.THIS time.
The opening scene, Amy Dunne looks up at Nicholas Dunne.
The ending scene, Amy Dunne looks up at the audience.
That David Fincher, he is a sneaky one!
*I am SOOOO happy you posted this, this is one of my favorite movies of all time!*
Another great vid! I LOVE your "Things You Missed" series! I love that that feeling of "oooooohh, NOW I get/see it!" It's so cool how much time and effort you put into these (well, all of your vids, of course) your observational skills are amazing!
Thanks for the quality content, been a subscriber for a while now and I've never, ever been disappointed with your uploads..they just get better and better!!
Things I missed in Gone Girl:
- The whole movie!
You haven't seen it? Come on, man. It's a great film.
@@riddlemethis2610 ikr
please watch it !!!!
Do you mean,
you haven’t seen it yet
or you weren’t paying attention,
cuz both is possible.
I know I said this once before, but I'll mention it again along with a few others as well. I'd love to see you cover a Things you Missed for the Interview with the vampire. As well as the following: House on Haunted Hill ((The 99 remake)) Wachter in the woods ((Orginal 81 movie)) 13 Ghosts (( The 01 remake)) and The Craft ((There is a remake/reboot releasing this month on VOD.)) Again I would really love to see at least one of these ((if not all 5)) covered. ^_^
Great list!
Might not be HORROR, but it IS a psychological thriller! Still counts
So thriller count as horror? Does comedy count as drama?
This dude looks like Shaggy from Scooby Doo 💀💀
Love this channel!! I like that he doesn’t rush to pump things out as soon as the movie comes out. I forgot about this morning, was a nice revisit🙏🏻❤️
I think you missed a connection sir, the tv talk show Ben Affleck goes on to admit his affair and discuss his wife's dissapearance is hosted by sela ward who is the actŕess who played Harrison Fords murderered wife for which he was being framed in 1993s "the fugitive"....coincidence?
Ben Affleck even utters the word on the show " I did not murder my wife" almost the same words as Harrison Ford in the fugitive
I think Ben looks like Scott Peterson and she looks like Nancy grace tbh
Margo is my fave character in the film, I feel like I'm always the Margo in a lot of situations.
Yasss
Love your content! This one isn't a movie I cared much about, but I enjoy watching you go over and point things out about basically anything. Thanks for all you do
My brother told me when he first watched this he was now terrified of marriage. He’s married now.
Just found you and you are already my favorite channel.
Binge watching asap
For April Fools Day, can you just do a video of 'things you missed' where you pick silly things like the guy laughing her not being married and the Macaulay Culkin clone? Cos I would watch the heck outta that 😂 x
"A seven leaf clover is considered lucky" its... a four leaf clover.
True, but not as lucky as a 7 leaf clover.

First of all you are so funny ! I love all your videos , an watching you really interpret every single movie an break them down is amazing ! I can't wait for your next video every time , an especially how long you edit too !
Fantastic content. Would love your take on 90s horror like The Faculty, I Know What You Did Last Summer, or the Scream series.
Wow I love this channel so much.
Glad you enjoy it!
Hey I love your vids and content! If your reading this have a fantastic day!💜
Thanks! You too!
Truly an underrated CZcams channel. Love your videos! 🤍
super nice video! the connections between Fincher's previous movies surprised me. i never noticed them and wouldn't even think that he would place all this little "clues".
also, i thought the video was from years ago until you started talking about covid and i was like "what??¿¿" lol
i just finished watching gone girl just a few minutes ago, and now i'm watching this brilliant video! thank u for this!
Can’t wait for screenrant to take this in a week.
No one is going to mention the Ice Cream Man shirt so I will, Love it man
This was extremely detailed, this movie took me way by surprise thanks a lot for such a through review
These are amazing dude
The awesomeness of dissection of this movie. I'm thinking about watching it again.
I totally agreed with the line, "Like I said, when Fincher does something, u can bet there's a reason for it"
The first time I was ever tricked by the internet was from Bret Easton Ellis. He wrote a book called lunar Park and if anyone has ever read it they know that there was a disclaimer in the beginning of the book that suggested every single thing that happened in the book was true. After reading the book I found myself googling some of the names he mercilessly dropped and found that there were real websites dedicated to these fake actors. I love when fictional stories utilize the internet in ways that add to the art. It was just genius. The fact that they did the same thing with this story makes me even happier because I swear this has been the best movie I've seen and years and years.
Oh good, I just woke up and didn’t wanna get out of bed. Time for a new video, yay!
You really look more and more like Shaggy every episode, but jokes aside great video, keep it up.
Please cover De Palma! Sure, there’s Carrie, but there’s also Dressed to Kill, Body Double, Raising Cain, Blowout, Sisters...man’s an “untouchable” legend, imo. ❤️
I’ve never been more excited to watch a vid
You know you’re early when CZcams says no views and 3 comments
No views. Not even you.
I love this movie! Thank you for making this video.
omg you DESERVE 1M. So underrated 😭
Great video!
Love what u do man I'm sure you'll have so get stuff for Halloween maybe something on the paranormal activity movies
Oh and you are pretty underrated bro. Sick Details!
Lot of work in this short, and I love short and to the point, video on one of the genius directors. Great job. Keep up the fine work.
Nice vid keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Yes! Love your videos! 👌🏻👌🏻
I just got done with my baseball tournament we lost but this video really cheered me up
watched the movie around december and november and man did i love it.once you get hooked it goes by kinda quick
Glad to be early! Hope to see a final destination video soon!
Someone's been peeping my Letterboxd
This isn’t a thing you missed but something amusing. In the scene where Amy is recognized at the bar, Desy says “no we’re from Winnipeg”. Now I saw this movie In Theatres opening day and the whole theatre erupted with laughter. It’s one of those things that’s only funny to the city/town you live in when it’s just a throw away line. :)
"Well, we have our first clue".
My head: WHAT'S NEW SCOOBY-DOO?
Big up from Jamaica a fan of ur cz work for almost a year
this my favorite movie of all time ! Underrated imo
Go cards! And you are definitely an underrated youtuber
7:43 That is a book that says TWAIN... Along with his picture on the cover.
I really need you to make it on CZcams,

Dude, you just hit the ground running in this one. 👍 I thought i missed the intro. 😂
This was amazing
TM'd. Thinking ahead my bro! Very good! 😎
You are the FUNNIEST guy I've ever seen that got a horror movie channel. How did you managed to turn all that gory stuff into all of your funny videos, it's unreal.
When you have a sponsor you don’t have ads and I think that’s ducking NEAT
Another fine list and this is a movie I gotta get around to watching.
You gotta watch it, man. It's great
Hey CZ, your hair is lookin real nice, dude! What's your secret?? (Also, great vid, as always!)
1:53 sounds like the start of spooky scary skeletons
I’d say it’s a thriller more than a horror, but that woman is for sure a horror. She kills an innocent man, and lies about him. Imagine being his family and finding out your son/relative kidnapped and raped this woman and he’s now dead and you know he never showed signs of crazy or killer but have no way to prove it. All of this game because the man cheated on you. What the fuck.
And even more disappointed and disgusted in the husband for staying with her and keeping up the lie.
OH MY GOD YOU ARE GOOD. ACTUALLY AMAZING
Your most probably the best film detective out there. If that is even a thing?
Mystery movies I’m fine with you covering! Their cool
the location used for “The Bar” is only an hour away from me!
That hunt a killer box sounds so cool!
Good movie but, what a twist ending
When I first saw it I thought the midpoint twist was the twist ending. Then I was blown away by the twist ending.
@@CZsWorld ya I know I felt the same way and was ok that was a twist then It hit the ending and I was like I did not see that coming
Would love to see something on The Lighthouse. 😁
Liked it before watching.
CZ covering anything with Tyler Perry has made my day .
CZ: it's not too different from the main screen on the Blu-ray
Me - realizing I'm the only one still watching DVDs
How are you not at 1 million subs yet?! I got you man, imma make my mom sub. I'm no hero, just doing my part. 😎😂
The girl on the train, dark objects and sharp objects
I love is voice such a great narrator I don’t even need to watch the 🍿 movie
My favourite channel for horror content
I love your content so much! Can you do a breakdown of Doctor Sleep, please?
I watched it again the other day, and I just know there was so much that I missed between The Shining and Doctor Sleep.
Thank you for all your content!
*Edit* I'm a dipshit. I see you have covered it already. Clearly it's something I missed. *facepalm*
Never heard of it but if CZ covered it , then ik it's worth a watch.
It definitely is dude. You gotta check it out.
