I WANT TO PLAY A GAME. Saw 4 represents a transition for the franchise. It would be the first entry written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, while it was also the last consecutive entry directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. Because of this, it contains a good amount of new secrets and puzzles for the audience to figure out while still maintaining old connections, easter eggs and references of past.
In this video I'll be covering everything you might have missed in Saw IV, from the creators secretly embedding their own names into many scenes, to the numerous clues about the movie's timeline placement within the Saw chronology, to the brilliantly woven in set-ups for story points that would be revisited in future movies.
I'll also take a closer look at the photographs and newspaper clippings pinned up around the Metropolitan Police Station, examine the expanded lore behind Gideon Meat Packing Plant (the location where John Kramer and Mark Hoffman hold their simultaneous games) and explain how Daniel Rigg's journey mirrors that of Adam Stanheight in Saw 1.

Non-horror fans: Its just torture porn.
The Movie: *Is one of the deepest and most well written masterpieces in horror history. Or even movie history.*
it's mind blowing how perfectly thought through saw is.
I mean it and the Child's Play/Chucky series are like the only horror movie franchise with more than like 4 movies that kept pretty much the same creators through the entire series so it does make them feel like the only ones with real thought through continuity. I guess there's also Scream now too.
@@Noobie2k7 paranormal activity
@@Noobie2k7 Final Destination
@@dahannes6739 overrated. None of the movies are even close to decent
@@Lost20048 but they are connected like nothing else in horror except for Saw
The fact saw 3 and 4 was happening at the same time is brilliant!
Jeff hate lights and is soooooo SLOW!
He's like a mole.
coleeg69 you would be shocked to discover how late into the development process that element was added. They shot in March - I think - and scripts from the end of January don’t have _any_ allusion to time overlap.
That's why James from Dead Meat calls him Slow ass motherf**cking Jeff.😂
@@tawdryhepburn4686 Where did you hear that?
Matthew Baumann I have read something like, 5 drafts on the script.
The little girl that Rigg talks to is Alison Luther, the niece of director Darren Lynn Bousman.
Producer Mark Burg has stated this "Saw" film to be his favorite on the commentary track.
This is the first "Saw" film in which the protagonist is not locked or trapped at all, and is able to stop playing the game at any time.
This film marks the second time in the "Saw" series that someone other than Jigsaw (in this case Hoffman) says "Game Over" in the film's climax. The first time was in "Saw II" (2005) when Amanda delivers the line
Body Count: 10. (Including Cecil Adams, whose death is shown in a flashback. Plus John and Jill's child that was miscarried in a flashback.
From "Saw IV" to "Saw 3D", Mark Hoffman is always involved in the last trap of each film.
The knives that were used in the trap that Jigsaw forces on Cecil Adams were actually made of wood
The seamless transitions between separate scenes in the film were not created using (digital) visual effects, but were done practically. For these transitions, the sets were build in such a way that two separate scenes could be filmed in one shot without interruption.
The autopsy scene was passed completely uncut by the MPAA.
A coroner was onset at all times for the autopsy scene.
The autopsy scene was deliberately made gruesome to distance the film from similar scenes that take place on TV every week on shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000).
This is the first installment of the franchise that does not open with a character in a trap.
This is the first film in the "Saw" series not to be written by "Saw" co-creator, Leigh Whannell.
I noticed that when Rigg goes into the school, he walks by a classroom with police tape around it. That's where Troy's game took place.
How and why would that take place in a school though weird
@@Gawlakmanbut it did lol. they showed that the door was welded shut in saw 3 bc amanda’s games were unwinnable!
Even if John Kramer is dead you can’t stop Jigsaw
Toy Pikachu The Octoling He is everywhere
Matias Bentancour you are indeed correct
Yep, hes awesome
"He lives on through the work of his followers."
Jacob Lofthus he does to be honest my favorite follower was Hoffman
This was the first time I was kind of in on the twist. I heard the detective tell Hoffman about the Dr. missing. I thought I recognized the animal he was holding and was really suspect when he told Perez he had a daughter. Then when he got “ kidnapped” I knew he wasn’t because they never showed it. I recognized the Manila envelope for Amanda too. I was so happy with myself at the end when Strahm found the pictures. The end was still so satisfying but I loved that I finally figured out something. Sorry just had to pat myself on the back 😂. I love your videos!!!!!!
I haven't seen this Saw movie in a while, I need to go rewatch it now.
I consider this to be the most confusing Saw.
Im actually rewatching all saw movies and damn, when i watched it 4-5 years ago it was so much more impressing... now only the first movie i would consider good actually
@@stjuardmacka4733 I've rewatched 2, 3, and 7. I'm about to binge them all as well.
Good luck because it’s only available to rent now that Tubi removes all the saw movies

I recently rewatched the entire series in reverse order (8-1) and tbh I really think it works just as well that way, there's so many concurrent scenes and loads of callbacks that it's all self-referential enough to still make sense
Another amazing video, CZ! It really goes to show not only how much effort the creators put into the little details in the movie, but how much effort you put into finding them and putting them into place with the entire Saw timeline, as it makes things more clear (which is much appreciated).
One of the main reasons I like saw 4 is because Peter strahm is introduced. Still one of my favorite character's in the franchise.
Did homie dirty in Saw 5.
@@waltermalone216 yeah 😔
@@Carlos-np7du Would have been better if he had an ambiguous "death" via a trap, teamed up with Dr. Gordon just to bring down Hoffman in the end. Strahm was dopest dope
@@waltermalone216 that would've been cool
@@Carlos-np7du Would have been fun to see some necessary evil going on in the process. Strahm wouldnt be happy about it, bit his grudge against Hoffman could have been fun to explore. Jill was boring.
Saw may just be the best horror franchise ever. I'm excited to see where it goes next.
For me personally Saw 3 and 4 were very creative. Say what you want about Saw the team put a lot more thought into the films than most for that genre. Thanks for the upload CZs World!
4:59 Jeff refusing to be enlightened by Jigsaw, must be foreshadowing his choice to not forgive at the end lol
Round 4! Personally one of my favorite Saw films.
It's not that he doesn't like the lights, but he's a moth man and must try to get that sweet glow
Lol
Honestly, can't wait for spiral.
Same, but also at the same time I can wait so that we can all see it in theaters safely!
Yeah Agreed
CZsWorld yeah it’s a shame that it’s delayed
Fin heard it’ll come next year
Guys were getting close...
Saw 6 was one of favorites and was the BEST rated film after the 1st Saw :) Are you going to continue and do Saw 6? I would love to see your analysis on it!
Cz world are u still going to do the saw Franchise timeline
I still have more Horror History episodes planned!
@@CZsWorld If you know what's good for you you'll make sure we get that Saw Franchise Timeline eh

Great job as always! The Saw franchise takes so many twists and turns, i missed EVERYTHING just trying to figure out the main plot!! Thanks CZ for giving us a little more to chew on!!
The interview during the flashbacks
Peter Strahm: i want to die.
lmaoooo
SAW 4, SAW 6, & SAW 7 are Pretty Underrated in the Series Hands Down.
....could you please tell me what you enjoyed about Saw 3D?? (Dr. Gordon doesn't count)
I agree IV is better than most give it credit for, and that VI is MUCH better than it has any right be, especially since it's the 5th sequel..... But other than the ending reveal montage, I abhorrently, and vehemently loathe Saw 7. So I'm not trying to troll or shitpost. I am genuinely curious, what aspects of the ''film'' do you deem underrated?
@@coolguyhino92 You don't think Hoffman massacring a police station and getting his revenge on Jill with the iconic music in the background is badass? In other words Saw 3D is good because Hoffman is unleashed. You could argue he makes most of the films.
@@urma3137 Genuinely, the only parts of Saw 7 are from when Jill gets Reverse Bear Trapped, till the end credits. Legit, only the death of Jill Tuck, and Dr. Gordon's reveal twist/flashback at the end are the only parts of it that felt like it needed to be part of the series.
If you REALLLLYY would like to know why I don't like it, in non-hyperbolic, legitimate detail, ill take the time to write it out for you.
But I loath this movie.(Yes, I'm a Saw Stan.
I-VI. Movies only(plus tie in comics that come with some of the dvd releases))
@@coolguyhino92 No I can understand why you don't like it. I'll admit compared to the other Saw films it looks REALLY cheap. I guess I like it because I'm just a big fan of Hoffman's story and it was cool seeing him almost like a slasher villain. It's definitely nowhere near my favourite though. I still thought it was decent enough just nowhere near the class of the other ones.
@@urma3137 A trap in broad daylight, and a trap where a guy is literally glues to a car seat. Hoffman's story might have been alright, but he is garbage at traps.
Congrats on 400k man! It's crazy how much detail they put into connecting both movies, like having Hoffman hold the little girls stuffed animal! Great video as always!
"Jeff really didnt like lights"
was this because he was not able to be... enlightened?
You should have way more subscribers then you have now, it's odd. The amount of detail you pick up on has made me rewatch loads of movies. Looking forward to the next vid.. Assuming we both survive.
Czworld i cant get enough of ur saw vids!! When you guys are done with the saw series please do some Jeepers creepers videos. I tried watching some thing about pennywise on a different channel but im so used to Zacs voice I couldnt make it through the first 5 mins lol
You're getting me through quarantine/social distancing omg
I really enjoy the videos you post about the horror movies. My favorite thing about your channel is how it appears as if you plan the ads into your videos so there’s never an abrupt cut. Thank you.
I really love your series, the way to dive deep with the lore and the time you take to search for these Easter eggs is amazing. Thank you for making binge worthy content.
Also, since no else seems to be talking about it, love the shirt =]
Ive rewatched the whole saw franchises
This may be a stretch, but if lights represent John’s attempt at “enlightening” his test subjects, perhaps Jeff hitting the lights is symbolic of a middle finger to John’s beliefs and practices? 🤷🏾♀️
Billy is life, Billy is all
True
shut yo ass up boi
Great SAW-ism as usual..... keep the franchise alive for the next generation of fans and devotees 🍺💯
Ohh boy! Can’t wait for Dead Silence next week

9:30 thank you for mentioning this. I’ve heard a lot of people confuse this scene whereas I understood right when I saw the movie.
Love that you’re doing a SAW series. These are some of my favorite movies! Love to see someone pay as much attention to detail as I do.
I love these! Although I have only actually watched the first 4 of the franchise I do love the story and have quite enjoyed watching the series explained chronologically from several CZcamsrs. this series is one of my favs !

nice! this is a coincidence, I've just finished watching Saw series, and then youtube recommend your videos, you reveal smth that I cant see them in movies, thank you for that, I can understand more about those cases
I loveeee when you add clips from the movie to finish your sentences 🤣 gets me everytime
Yea buddy fantastic content it makes me want to binge the movies ! Great work
If you do, they are nice and quick 90 minutes episodes except for Saw 3 😁
CZsWorld I love them they are very addicting and I can’t help but binge them all even after they have been out for a while
Hey I like your content saw is such a fantastic series and I'm always curious to learn more about it
So happy I found your channel been binge watching it lol
I’ve just found this channel and have been going through your Saw videos. They’re all very well done. I’ve always enjoyed Saw IV. I thought it was quite interesting the film takes place at the same time as Saw III and the execution of the film with that aspect as well as delving into Jigsaws beginnings was very well done. I think this is one of the better installments of the franchise, of course the original Saw will always be the best film of the series, but the next three are pretty well done I’m following up the original.
I love this series, I own all the soundtrack albums too
Great vid, especialy the music at 08:50
World On Fire you can find it in the description, great thind you added the songs used props
I've only watched the first 3 in full (I haven't had the stomach/found the movies on a sub I use or for free yet) but I've been watching all this to make it easier on my anxiety to eventually watch them at some point and I love these videos
The jigsaws order
John Kramer
Logan nelson
Dr Gordon
Amanda young
Mark Hoffman
IDK anymore lol 😂
George Villiers I’m guessing you’re saying that based off of when they joined which is correct, but there’s been more than one person contributing to Jigsaw’s legacy at the same time.
Gordon joined after amanda
@Jack Roughan yeah amanda helped set up the bathroom game and then after Gordon cut off his leg he decided to help jigsaw
@Jaime Fogle have you even seen the movies?
Love your content brotha! Happy someone is interested in SAW like me!
Thanks, glad you're liking it!
The Transitions in the 4th installment are absolutely GOD TIER!
Can't wait for the Horror History.
“Previously unsolved mystery about Saw II.”
What was it?
I missed it, it was in the middle of the video (not the ending where I was expecting it) - the answer is in regards to determining the timeline of Saw II.
These videos are fantastic!
Thanks, it make me more understand about this fantastic series
Dude, literally 15 seconds in. Very surprised if I'm not first comment, but obviously haven't watched it yet
