Relaxing new spot in Sequoia National Forest | GaiaGPS to the rescue!

  • We went out on an adventure to see if we could find a new spot in Sequoia National Forest. Our first location may have been perfect but down trees and other campers with chainsaws secured the location before us. We venture on following the forest roads until we ultimately found a new spot. I wasn’t sure at first but after spending a night there I really liked it!

    Finding a good spot to car camp is always a challenge. Good to see you found a good one (the spot and Deb). There is nothing quite like the peace that comes from being out in nature. And I have honestly never seen anyone put tent stakes in with a power drill, lol. Genius.

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  Před 4 lety +2

      I’m definitely getting more confident in finding spots. Well and it’s fun to do the exploring. I did find a good one in both! I found the lag bolt idea from another channel. What happened is the first time out I could barely get the stakes in the ground and ended up bending some of the stakes. And the stakes that come with the tent are pretty big. The lag bolts, although a bit odd, work amazingly well. If I can find the original video that pointed me in the direction I’ll post it.

      @dustyroaddestinations  Před 4 lety

      I would have NEVER thought about that but damn it sure helps out. I read that people use them for burning man because the ground is so hard out there. I ended up having to order 12” ones, I could only find like 8” at Home Depot but to be honest those work too. I’ll still take the stakes that came with the tent but I don’t think I’ll use them.

      Seems so! It is always nice to just get out and not think about anything other than watching out for creepers! But on that it was really out in the middle of nowhere and was a bit of a chore to get to so not too worried about it. Now at regular camp grounds with a ton of people around I think I'd be a bit more nervous.

      Great point cooket12, what I did first was to go someplace easy and close. That way if there was a problem it's only one night AND you're still close to everything. The other thing I did was to do it first myself, you know make sure I could keep myself alive, before I brought my daughter out. Leah do you have anything planned??? Maybe even just a day trip to scout out an area (with the kids) and then you can gauge if they want to do it?

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, I was pretty much loaded down. The topper on my truck limits the bed space and I really need to re-think my load out. I'm kind of glad it was cold because during the day it was a little warm. I know we only have a few more weeks of weather like this before it starts to get hot. 6k+ feet will help but after a while it will just be uncomfortable - at least that is what I'm thinking. On the next trip I'm considering Inyo National Forest but not sure. When are you heading to Thailand Time2getgoin?

If you drive up to the Ponderosa Lodge they have a really good map of that whole area . You came up through Ca Hot Springs and made a left at the T by Pineflat . Have you been up to Balch Park if you haven’t you should give it a try and check out Hidden Falls , but you would have to walk the dirt road for 2 miles . Beautiful country all up in there , take care and have fun be safe .

      If you mean the one in the time lapse? That was the vestibule made for the 10x14 Kodiak Flexbow tent. I ordered mine from either kodiakcanvas.com or competitive edge products. It’s pretty cool except that it blocks any views. I used a canvas tarp I bought off Amazon with extra poles for the front with a larger canvas for the outside floor. Although my daughter placed a hot pan on the canvas directly from the stove and it burned a perfect circle into it...
