I love how this show creates a sense of false hope sometimes when they show like Topaz sympathizes with Steven so he has a chance of escape but then completely shatters it. Sometimes you have to take the hard painful route no matter what you do.

Yep. This is what I was subtly foreshadowing last episode: Topaz is symbolic of stable relationships. I honestly love how the Topazes were handled in this episode. As much as we love to give credit to this show for its diversity of character designs and themes of acceptance, it's easy to notice that the Gems with more "masculine" designs tend to be villainized more than the feminine ones. Like, waifish Lapis and adorable Peridot both get redemptions, but the more rugged and muscular Jasper, Eyeball Ruby, and Bismuth get corrupted, tossed into space, and rebubbled. Here, though, the Topazes initially look like just generic brutes but then turn out to be remarkably sweet and empathetic. The two lawyers are zircons. Zircon, as you can probably guess from the name, is zirconium silicate (ZrSO4), but with plenty of other elements mixed in - usually hafnium, but you'll also get thorium, uranium, etc. The name comes from the Persian zargun (gold-colored), even though they can be heated and changed to basically any color that dogs can see. 7.5 on the Mohs scale. They're notably the heaviest of all known gemstones. They symbolize giving guidance, which at least fits the defense Zircon. And for the record, neither of them is green. The one that looked green was actually yellow but appeared green in the lighting.
I see what you mean and I think it does has to do with the system set in place for the gems. Like gems like Jasper, Tough Ruby, and i don't remember Bismuth being corrupted so I can't really put her in the category but anyway, they are all supposed to be soldiers, meaning they have different underlining toxic ways of how a soldier is supposed to be tough and hardened to be the best. Bismuth is actually the other gem that gets a redemption because although it may not seem like it, she was a simple and small antagonist that made a difference. Her "redemption" was that she actually listened through and started to think about what the consequences are and how it affects others. Although, it is weird you say every masculine gem is villainized because even the Famethysts are all soldiers but they all share that discomfort of working underneath a gem and being mistreated and also...well I'd be getting into spoiler territory but still, I feel like the gems are either following their code through and through or following the code but secretly hate it like Topaz and the Famethysts.

with lars's low effort you need to think of it as a defence mechanism he thinks if he makes a show of not trying things then people wont see that he's incapable (at least he thinks he's incapable) however doing this a lot has made him have super low confidence since now he never knows when he might actually succeed.
The diamonds get alarmed because the accusations do not fall on them but on the other diamond we haven't seen. They can bear the thought that white diamond got rid off pink, that's why yellow says it is pointless, she could not believe that coming from white diamond.
Man, it's like I'm the only one who remembers Bismuth saying the sword was specifically made to only harm the light form and never shatter the gem. When Blue said the sword was used to shatter, I was like, WAIT A MINUTE, THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!

@@SubuxaReiDasFalacias Yeah, took me a couple watches through the series to realize how big of a clue that was lol. Surprised that Steven didn’t say or question about that
Learning why Steven always liked Lars so much is a bit heartbreaking. Everyone else around him is always telling him everything's fine and that he's great, but they've also done a lot of lying to him. My favorite episode is next! Can't wait for your reaction! Do you remember what Bismuth said about Rose's sword? It was designed to destabilize any gem. WITHOUT shattering it.
I'm not going to spoil it for you but I'll give you a vague hint. But no spoilers and most people didn't get it the firdt time around as well.
fucking FR! looking back as I'm watching another person watch this episode i immediately went "wait....they kinda hinted at what actually happens VERY hard here. how did we not see this?"
At this point It's obvious in retrospect why we had that story a few episodes back in which "Navy" (the Ruby) steals the spaceship: So the Crystal Gems couldn't follow Steven to Homeworld.
someone else already mentioned this but ima just say it again just in case lmao so the fact that blue says that it was a sword is kind of interesting when you remember that bismuth said that she created Rose's sword for a fair fight, that it could poof easily without actually shattering the gem, which is why Steven assumed Rose used the "breaking point" to shatter pink and was surprised to find out differently.
I like how Aquamarine didn't fold like Holly Blue Agate when faced with mutiny. Even though she's a villain, I respect that, so along with Blue Zircon it once more shows that Blue Court is best Court. Although it was terribly painful for her to go over the circumstances of her beloved Pink's demise, Blue Diamond nevertheless insisted that "Rose Quartz" have the opportunity to make her case, instead of just murdering her off the bat as Yellow Diamond wants to do. Pink Diamond was shattered at some point in the Crystal Gem Rebellion, which took place more than 5000 years ago (it was 5750 years before Steven's last birthday back in season two when Garnet first fused). How would the Crystal Gems reach Homeworld? Navy took off with the only spacecraft capable of getting there.
Just remember that during the trial they talk about Rose’s sword, however Steven had the knowledge that Bismuth made that sword with the Inability to shatter a gem for Rose
Since there was apparently no recording of the event, Steven wouldn't know whether the sword Rose Quartz used was her usual sword---which he would know from Bismuth was designed specially not to shatter Gems--or some other sword that might have been designed to wreck gemstones. I still don't know why from a bare accusation of shattering Pink Diamond Steven thinks that his mother was a war criminal and wanton murderer.
Just so you know, just because the gems are different colors on Homeworld, doesn't mean there's new Diamonds or anything. The Diamonds are colored coded so any gem that is next to that color belongs to that Diamond, for example, green would belong to Yellow or Blue depending on how they would split it. Orange may belong to Pink or Yellow. Red would belong to again Pink or Yellow.
