The reason why Bluebird gave Steven clams, peanutbutter and cut grass, is because those are the types of things that humans can be allergic to, she was trying to kill him, makes that scene way darker

@@eeveefennecfox bluebird wouldn’t know that he has allergies or not though. Since she’s a gem, she most likely found out this information because she wanted to kill Steven and thought it would work and probably just assumed all humans were allergic to that stuff so she gave it to him.
Honestly finally I’m not the only one that realized garnets personality kind of changed. All of their personalities changed which makes sense for Garnet to change to but Garnet had a very specific personality in the first few seasons of the show so seeing her kind of act this way and even talk this way is kind of weird. She doesn’t really give off a mother finger anymore, not even a goofy mom….. she’s just kind of weird. Just some weird gem which is fine but I really liked her personality in the first season
I mean garnet was only filling up the empty position when rose became Steven, so I feel garnet taking a backseat is only natural once steven are capable, you need to remember how many year old Steven is only a blink of an eye for a gem as they live for so long, going back to past patterns is easy for gems especially in such a short amount of times
It was so nice to see Pearl shapeshifter in Steven tag, bc she hasent shapeshifted since she shapeshifted into Rose to “kill” pink diamond
The reason Pearl never shapeshifted before is because the last time she did it it was to impersonate Rose ''shattering'' Pink Diamond
The episode with Cat Steven and Shapeshifting instead of demonstrating it she used holograms to explain it to Steven (Amethyst was the one shapeshifting) and Pearl didn't agree to play Steven tag back then

Notice how Bluebird Azurite gives Steven grass, peanut butter, and clams. Which may seem weird at first until you remember that some of the most common alergies are to peanuts, seafood and pollen.
Bluebird was trying to kill Steven from the second they met lol
I believe that the reason why Garnet may seem “dumbed down” now is due to our perspective with Steven changing. When we saw her as that leader figure, Steven was a little kid and too immature to take on such a responsibility. Now, Steven is older and has become much more mature, capable of taking on that role, (ntm how Garnet was essentially a temporary replacement for Rose) and Steven had become much stronger over time, so naturally, he became the leader.

Yeah what I find cool about fusions is that they know they are two people put together and know that in technicality they are the two people but they know that they are also they're own person just like how garnet refers to herself as I and we and how when Sapphire and ruby fuse back Steven says " garnet your back! ", Garnet is her own person with a unique personality and her own half of memories but she shares those attributes and stuff with ruby and Sapphire bcs she is their mix she is the embodiment of their relationship, and I like that

i like that sunstone is like a mascott. it embodies both steven and garnets protective nature. You can also say sunstone represents how steven and garnet inspire people with their words.Steven, ruby, and sapphire are emotional characters, so sunstone becoming this exaggerated cheesy "radical" character kind of makes sense. There are alot of ways you can read into how the fusions are like their parts. It doesnt make them the best fusion, not by a longshot, but the choice still made morse sense than i originally thought.
tbh i would be okay that sunstone was a "mascot" if they had a better design....it's so ugly and doesnt even look cool. Like maybe if the hair was more flowy-flame like actual fire sort of like Ghost Rider while still including the mascot vibes with it, people would like them more.
i think the best fusion is sardonyx. you can trace practically everything about her personality back to pearl or garnet but she still feels very unique and fun
@@penntopaper9305 i think most fusions are pretty traceable. Sunstone is protective like garnet but in a fun way like steven. They give lessons and inspire, but with a level of cheese thats clearly from steven.
And sapphires future vision and stevens protective nature further help them keep people safe.
I think the problem is Sunstone doesn't embody a flaw they both share. Sunstones flaw might just be a lack of seriousness with how in their own world they are?
Sardonyx can get full of herself
Sugilite gets too rowdy and impulsive
Smoky is extremely insecure
Opal gets lost in the moment
Smoky can easily stretch themself too thin trying to help everyone.
Stevonnie is just a teen, full of flaws.
I think sunstone isn't seen as deep because of how little we see and how goody they always seem.
@@Gatekid3 this is true. rainbow quartz 2.0 also kinda seems to have that issue where the character's flaws dont show. in that episode where they were babysitting onion, steven and pearl were both stressed about it. rainbow should've been stressed too.
as for why i like sardonyx the best, i think the combination of peal and garnet's personalities and flaws is especially well written in her even when compared to sugalite and smokey. its much more subtle. kinda blink and you'll miss it. my favorite example to bring up is that sardonyx seems to share pearl's insecurities of needing to feel noticed and encouraged. this is communicated through the fact that she basically rolelpays being on a real talk show complete with a slightly unsettling fake audience and fake stage crew that she refers to like its real. smokey even hits her with a few odd looks and comments about it. its so peak
@@penntopaper9305 its a flaw that would only show up in that context. not only is it pearls insecurities, it's garnets overwelming love of fusion and pearls love of steven and amethyst progressing.
Inversely. I think Sugilite needed an episode to show her positive sides. There was a comic that showed she can be reasonable and worked with, but with only one real episode all we get to see are how cool she is and the flaws.
I'd say rainbow is fine to me. I think together the situation isnt as stressful. and to rainbow also seems like the type to hide how tired they are.
I think sunstone would benifit from a situation that shows the problems that fusion might run into
It seems that Sunstone takes Garnet’s future vision and Steven’s personality (+diamond powers) to literally alter reality and be aware of the audience to the point where she can literally turn any dilemma into a PSA
Sardonyx had a similar power where she could break the 4th wall a couple of times.

A good thing to know about why so much of steven univers future seems so fanservicey is because the last season was extremely cut down. Basically they offered Rebbeca Sugar and the team that either the show be canceled or they cut it down and end it sooner. All because some countries banned the wedding episode because ✨homophobia✨ and didnt want to keep the show because of it. But rebbecca fought to try and give everything they could of all the things they DID want to try to include and the stories they wanted to tell, but sadly theres still some that never got to see the light of day. It sucks but I appreciate their hard work to at least try their hardest to give the fans closure with what they could.
honestly future isnt super fanservicy in my eyes, but it depends on how you are defigning it. to me fanservice is not necessary. the og show squeezing in all the fusions was servicy to me because they could have skipped to obsidian and it would get the point accross, but alot of what future has been doing feels like its tying in some stuff we want to see with the narrative its trying to tell. But if fanservice is just hitting the stuff we want in general, yeah, it knocks it out of the park for me

Honestly, if any country has a problem with that, fuck those countries. They don't deserve it. I mean, the general public might deserve it and it's a shame they're not being educated and exposed to these ideas in a positive way, but fuck the people who make those decisions and the people who censor stuff.

@@Gatekid3 Yeah I know, but I'd rather make less money than appease those kinds of people. Not having the budget would suck, but I wouldn't mind breaking even, not making a profit, if it meant I didn't have to go against my principles. I definitely wouldn't be changing my shows/movies to comform to what Russia or China deems as acceptable. I'd rather make no money or even lose a bit, but spread a good message and make people happy, than become rich by letting censorship win. I understand that the staff have to be paid of course, but I'm against big business and capatilist greedy corporations anyway. I believe in doing the right thing, not money.
As a parent of teenagers... the struggles of changing and growing up really hits home. And who people are over time.
It would be even more confusing for a gem as well seeing they dont exactly age, sure they grow as a character but theyre never really a child so seeing a child become an adult would be odd to understand to them

I think it makes sense that Steven became the new leader since Rose was leader first. Garnet was pretty much filling the role while she was gone until Steven was ready. Bismuth said when he let her out of the bubble that someone's making them believe in the future and its you, signifying how Steven matured into a way better leader and person than Rose ever was, even in the wedding episode everyone was looking to Steven for answers. He helped everyone grow, and given that Steven has now surpassed the other gems as a diamond, it makes sense that Garnet would take a back seat and let Steven take over.
I love how Pearl finally shapeshifting shows that she's truly over Pink/Rose. The last time she shapeshifted was when her and Pink faked the shattered. This is why she always refused to do it and lowkey hated on Amythest whenever she'd shapeshift in season 1.
Steven Tag is by far my favorite episode. Really enjoy that the Gems wanting to spend time with steven years later also the throw backs from "Steven Universe". Also Where's Onion's mama?
I think pearl and steven were baby sitting onion,so I don't know where onion's mom was at,maybe she was out doing things

Sunstone is basically the embodiment of those aftershow child safety adverts, like "Play smart! Stay safe!", or those morality lessons at the end of a cartoon, "Boy, I guess the real lesson we learned today was not everybody is the same, we're all unique!" it's very campy and over the top but i can appreciate it, and it fits Garnet and Steven put together so well
19:16 I missed this the first time, but it's actually really significant than Peael shape-shifted. The only time we've seen her do it was to "shatter" pink diamond. Steven even said "Pearl doesn't shape-shift". It's really cool that she moved past that trauma! They even acknowledge it briefly in the epis9de, Amythest and Garnet pick her up and celebrate, and Steven says "Good for her"
Realistically Garnet’s shift in character is most likely because Cartoon Network suddenly cut the number of episodes for the crew to produce, so all the plot they had planned kinda had to get crammed into a smaller amount of time, leading to a lot of characterization being lost in the process.
But an in-show explanation would probably be that Garnet took a step back once Steven got older, as all the gems just sort of assumed he would take his moms position as “leader” of their group.
onion didn't survive the roller coaster explosion, he wasn't there when it happened, he just got on the cart when he was at sea, so he's not hurt or dead.
the gems definitely didn't mean for it to come off that way, but for steven that's how it felt. that they wanted him to go back to being a little kid.
Sunstone is such a mascot🤣I never thought about how Steven and Garnet's personalities would combine but this makes sense. As for Garnet's behavior in that same episode, I think she was just being silly because the whole episode is more or less an ad for time management.
tbf , garnet is effective in war context, like knowing where the enemy is gonna strike is a huge plus, that's why they took the role of chief when rose died, but then there is peace, and knowing that everything is a danger of some sort around you is very bad for influanceable gems that discovers earth , but steven is good at peace, he litteraly saved the entire world , who could be better at peace time than him? so steven taking the role over is just a natural continuation of bringing peace, so his diamond power plus garnet's vision = 4th wall breacking and comic public interest advertisement

Every time someone talks about a modern show or game and says they loved it "as a kid" or they "grew up with it", I feel so weird... To me, it feels like Steven Universe has only been around for a few years and that's nothing x.x
The onion future episode is one of my favorite more comedic episodes. Mostly because Pearls interactions with him was something Id hoped for. If steven felt off about him let alone pearl. 😂 "HES IN THE WALLS!"

12:31 i think the only reason that comes to mind for me is the fact that they're educating the Gems how to live among humans, which the Crystal Gems didn't really put that much effort in learning until Steven was born---even then, that time spent with/raising Steven (which they admitted they knew nothing about in the first series) is very small as opposed to what they've spent their whole lives doing as Gems. To them, Steven is the best if not only reliable source of reference they've got, 'cause they didn't really rely on other humans. You could argue they also had Greg and Vidalia (for Amethyst at least), but again, they just didn't feel the need to understand what human life was about in the beginning + viewed Steven more of a Gem outside his essential human needs.
garnet was really the one they looked to as a leader when it came to missions because of her strength and future vision but i feel like garnet was never the best when it came to socializing or understanding humans and thats what makes stevens help more necessary in situations like this

So it turns out she was trying to kill him by using the three things were allergic to grass which is like pollen you got peanut butter for peanut allergies and then clams for people who are allergic to seafood of course I’m not allergic to any of these but all three of those things do not taste good together I wouldn’t know just looking at it😂
Since Sunstone is a fusion between Steven and Garnet, Garnet being able to see through the future and being the mother figure while Steven being Steven and protective and kind and stuff, they turn out to be like a mascot like Tony the Tiger or the Dare lion because of who Garnet and Steven are personality wise. And the way they are able to break the fourth wall is because Garnets future vision combines with Steven so instead of seeing the future, they can break the fourth wall

Technically, Future wasn’t really supposed to happen. The ending of the main series was the planned ending since like 2011, but I think Rebecca still wanted to keep it going for a little bit. And I think the fan service parts is why Future is hated so much. I’m not sure, I still personally love it though because SU is literally my childhood and I would do anything to see my favorite characters again.
The gems are clueless on so many things because they are literal aliens, they don't understand humans and they function more literally, machine like.
The hair cut to get out of a situation like that is such a classic trope so I think everyone had a feeling.

I kinda like the fan service in Steven Universe Future. It's kinda like an extension to the series where the creators know it's over soon, so they're celebrating a bit and helping end the series with some answered questions, some stuff fans always wished for, along with some more serious exploration into things the future will entail for these characters having to live in such a different world now.

I heard originally Garnet was supposed to be the leader but the network wanted the show focused more on Steven the young main character and so they had to make him the leader despite originally planning otherwise. I know are like “he drew into his role as a leader” and that fair but at the same time it makes since for the gem who was alive for hundreds of years a knack for future vision and good foresight to be the leader and that’s without even taking into consideration that he was like 12 YEARS OLD when he started like it makes since for a more experienced person to be the leader as opposed to a literal child (son of rose quartz/Pink diamond or not). Garnet is cool but I do think they dumbed her down and she kinda started leaning on Steven more which isn’t inherently bad but like she’s been on earth for a while she was established as a very wise and insightful individual so it can seem kinda strange to see her so heavily lean on this kid for things that she could probably already know.
I just had a thought. Will Steven keep growing until well he dies or will he live on? Because that will be incredibly sad that Steven dies and the other gems witness it.

I don't think Garnet was dumbed down, I just think that episode was kind of a joke. Like, if we're taking Sunstone's 4th wall break as not a 4th wall break but them making an actual PSA, then Garnet was just exaggerating for the camera. Garnet managed to raise Steven without destroying the house like that. And she learned her lesson about telling people their possible futures after freaking Steven out that one time. She wouldn't be doing none of this, so I don't think we were meant to take any of that seriously

Onion definitely isn't human, no matter what the Rebecca Sugar or the crewniverse say. I've been saying he's not human since season 1, and the show has provided more evidence for that than against. Him not aging should really confirm it. At that age, someone should definitely change over 4 or 5 years.

For me, the Bluebird and Onion episodes, 5 & 6 are the weakest of Future, I like overall what they were trying to do but feel like they succeeded the least (or failed the most if you really didn't like them). I still love the rest of the series despite certain decisions but yeah I personally find those 2 episodes the biggest hump in rewatching (tho I still do cuz the SU's comedy just jives with me). Steven Tag is just the perfect summary of what this show is about, growing up. It's like All Grown Up compared to Rugrats
I mean garnet is really good at strategic planning, but I don't think she was ever shown to be that good with humans and human things. She was either too strong, took things too literally or something else. Steven taking the reigns in this only makes sence.
Garnet is a very smart fusion but doesn't know the repercussions of safety, In the fusion of sunstone its a mixture of garnets wisdom and steven's responsibility, making sunstone the perfect gem for those areas.

Honestly this episode really backs up my opinion on how each fusion is a different person within themself, rainbow quartz may be Steven and pearl and rainbow knows that, but they usually still refer to them as I they are they're own person, think of it in a way we're parents have a child, technically the child will grow up with similar personalities as the people around them like their parents and their they're offspring their mix! But they are they're own person, a fusion is basically that just with the memories of both gems, I mean we have tons of examples!, Garnet is a great one! Garnet knows she is ruby and Sapphire but people don't say she is, because garnet is well garnet! While she refers to herself as we at times as we she says that to refer to Sapphire and ruby and they're relationship she acknowledges that she would not be possible without Sapphire and ruby and that she is just Sapphire and ruby together, or well basically just their relationship and bond as a physical form, but she also knows that She in a way is her own person with a mix of each gems attributes, just like how when we first found out garnet was a fusion Sapphire knows about Steven but hasn't truly met him because garnet ISNT Sapphire she ruby and Sapphires bond, sure they share a headspace when fused but garnet is a different person, rainbow can be taken in this way to ( I rrly like rainbow I find them so cool I'm sorry 💀 ) onion likes rainbow not pearl even if pearl technically "is" and has similar personality as rainbow, rainbow is rainbow not pearl, rainbow is they're own person that's why Steven says " rainbow quartz promised to hang out with onion today! " Because it wasn't them who promised to hangout with onion they promised onion they'd bring out rainbow quartz so rainbow could hang out with onion, the fusions are just physical forms of the relationships of those characters that fused to make them and funny enough have the memories of the people they were mixed with ( for obvious reasons ) but they are not THEM, like when we met sardonyx, she said she had heard so much about Steven because the gems that fused to make her ( amethyst and garnet I think ) know Steven but she hearself in her form in her true self had never met Steven, she knows about him because amethyst and garnet know steven and they are still in sardonyx somewhere, because they fused to make her but she herself had never met Steven, further the point that while a fusion is both gems merged they are different people with their own personalities, kind of like how Steven is also rose and pink, similar powers, can recall the others memories but they aren't them Steven isn't his mom he's her "fusion" in a way or offspring, I'll end my rant here but in short fusions are like the physical embodiment of 2 peoples relationships, similar powers similar memories similar attributes and personality of the two but they are NOT the gems that merged they are they're own person/gem with their own personalities ect

Yeah SUF is kinda fan servicey but it’s also because it had a rushed ending. After the Ruby and Sapphire wedding CN told them they had a few episodes to wrap up the show. They fought to get the movie and epilogue series so they tried to fit as much as the fans would want into it
I agree that the cast seems dumb downed and straight up out of character at times so that they can tell their story. I think Garnet and Steven got it the worst in the show though. I also dislike Sunstone's personality as it just feels out of place. I really wish they had used the psa gimmick for a new character and not the fusion between my two favorite characters.

And one critique that really stuck with me about this show is how every episode has to revolve around Steven, so we, the viewers, don't get to see the rest of the cast at pivotal moments.
Garent is not reling on steven it is just she is making the gems scared by telling them the bad events that could happen.
honestly I can't decide whether I like future or not, cause I'm watching with Scoot and on one hand I didn't mind the first few episodes but on the other I basically lost all motivation to keep watching and I finally decided to watch a few more episodes after months of not watching it and 5 was meh 6 made me straight up wanna drop the show but then I got to episode 7 and really enjoyed it and it actually put a smile on my face so these episodes just feel really hit or miss and I'm not sure if I wanna keep watching and risk another episode 6 just so I can get another episode 7 especially when most episodes are just an episode 5
