It's actually just so crazy how much it makes sense. Every version of sapphire can see some form of time- Paddie sees the past, Ganet sees possible futures and Sunstone sees beyond her time right into ours. It's such an awesome concept!

Okay, so what happened is this:
Steven is a fusion of his human half and his gem half, and they both need each other to function. Human Steven needs Gem Steven to live, to have energy and hold himself together, while Gem Steven needs Human Steven to control his powers and emotions, and act like a human being instead of like a robot.
They're the only human and gem who are able to fuse, because they're halves of each other, and that's why Steven can fuse with Connie too, because of his human half.
What White thought it would happen, was that Pink was going to appear and that she was going to prove that Steven was just another one of Pink's foolish whims.
Also, white was created to be pure perfection, we still don't know who did it, but whoever created the diamonds inforced in whites mind that she is perfect, and that all gems are a part of her. When she's shown irrefutable doubt that she's absolutely wrong, her whole world is shattered and she's presented with reality.
I mean all gems are just pieces of her light refracted through their own gems. She is right about that part. Gems are living light and they are made through her essence infused into gemstones. She just needs to understand her light is always perfect not just when its all combined. Even when it is refracted into its parts it is still the same light and it is okay for it to shine that way. She really is the equivalent of a Goddess to the Gems, so underplaying that seems strange to me. She was wrong and harmful, but her place in Gem society is there because she really is what she says she is. In future she learns to reflect the light of her parts and that is her growth. It seams like a strange and mostly useless power but it shows that she is now accepting all of her parts and seeing the world as individual Gems would. One of the things not said in the show but is hinted at is that White knew Pink was on Earth all along. this was confirmed by the creators. White is in every Gem and that makes her kind of omniscient and makes it fact that all Gems are part of her, as that piece of her that gives each Gem their life is still part of White and still able to be manipulated by her.

All gems have her essence, yeah, but that makes them her children. Just because she is literally white doesn't mean all gems's lights are her light
As for her omniscience, we have to consider she didn't say anything about the crystal gems until she possessed them, and she clearly says that "it's all written over their gems" which might mean she can have a general what a gem does or have a basic idea of who they are (even if it's not after being controlled)
We have to consider that she's not *literally* every gem, but that's how she used to think. She now.lets every gem voice their feelings, she uplifts their voices and that lets her see their perspective, since we know when she's controlled she can remember whst happened, as we see when she's scared by Steven.
White diamond represents repression, shame and denial. She can't know it all about every gem, but she does seem to have a lot of knowledge about them in any way. Which means she might not be omniscient, but she might be omnipresent in some capacity, at least when it comes to her fellow diamonds. She didn't know about the gems having grown past the characteristics she described about them, but she's able to know about Rose's actions.
This is because the diamonds are supposed to represent the parts of a human mind.
Pink is the ID, or the "I", made out of pure seek for pleasure, fun and curiosity. Blue and yellow are the ego, they mediate the ID with emotion and action, and then there's white, the super ego. The super ego is a moral judgement, born later in development with how your parents treated you and limits you had. Since they are all a part of a single mind, but white is the top of the hierarchy, begin the "head", she's able to know about the actions of her fellow diamonds and she's able to know the general aspects of gems when she controls them
Rebecca also said that white had such a fragile identity, such a fragile worldview, that her complete universe falls apart when she can't ignore she's wrong. Steven defeats her by existing because he's unfathomable evidence that she doesn't know it all, that she's not perfect.

Blue diamond is white’s sadness, Yellow diamond is white anger, and Pink diamond is White’s empathy and love and compassion. So then she could be the perfect ruler and wouldn’t feel mad or sad and feel empathy for anyone, cause like you said every gem is just a part of her because she is the original gem. Or that’s what I think, anyway.

Regarding Pink and the other Diamonds, it’s all a metaphor for an abusive family. That’s why she ran away to earth. “How many times did you lock her in here? How many times did you make her cry?” “Maybe Pink thought you guys were right to lock her in here when she messed stuff up, but I know what it’s like to have a loving family, and we don’t do stuff like this to each other”
They even use their powers on each other, to hurt each other, because they think it’s for the best. They’re not evil as people, just very broken as a family
The “She prefers to be called “Steven”” is also very clearly an allegory to trans youth considering the themes that the show has tackled before

I weirdly love White's sense of perfection and her ideals, they're so conflicted but clear at the same time.

I feel like rainbow quartz is one of the more accurate fusions. it feels like its actually a mix of pearl and steven

Stevens gem got removed. Without the gem Steven was dying and weak. Without Steven his gem had no personality, only power. There wasn’t any person to filter that power through, just a vague desire to reunite with the other half. If Steven hadn’t gotten to his gem he’d probably die. If he died then Pink Steven probably would have stood expressionless in place for all eternity, not reacting to anyone or anything around unless forced to in which case it would retaliate with immense power and impenetrable defenses.
Edit: this is just my speculation of course
Im sure Pink Steven could have grown. That was the message the show taught us about Gems again and again. They are more than just inbuilt directives. They just need to be given the chance to grow. Without is memories, personality, or directives, he would not be the old Steven but he could have learned to be someone, it would just take time. This might be the end of Stevens story. His gem is still immortal. If Steven eventually becomes mentally too old he will age himself to death. He doesn't seem like he would try to avoid his natural life span. This would leave his gem embedded in his corpse. Steven as he was will die but a new Steven will come. The fourth iteration of Pink.

His gem could probably keep his organic body alive forever like Lion. If that "Pink Steven" was truly Rose or Pink then he would have shared their voice but he didn't. That pure gem form is still Steven because, like he said "She's gonnnnnne"

The creators have confirmed that Pink Steven would "die" too if human Steven died. They cannot exist if separated.
@@anothermiddleschoolburnout8816 I understand that Pink and Rose were fully wiped. That is probably why Pink Steven is non-functional without his human half. I was saying how his organic form is so influenced by his gem that his age is not a matter for him. He is a shapeshifter and like all gems his natural form is what he feels is right rather than dictated by genetics or another factor. I was saying that due to Steven's personality it would seem he would not see himself as an un-aging rock and instead age himself to death through shapeshifting eventually. I know he could live forever but I just think he would.

Another fact is that when a gem is removed from what it’s been put in it gets destroyed, like the mirror Lapis was put on, so when White took out his gem he started dying

If you listen carefully, in the scene where Pink Steven fuses back with his human part, you can also hear Pink/Rose laughing along with his son. This means that Steven isn’t Rose but, just as she said in the VHS she left for him, she is a part of him and she’s enjoying watching Steven living his life and being himself.

31:28 To put it simply, Lion & Lars are just beings brought back to life through Pink & Steven's healing powers. All the diamonds essentially have power to bring life even to the non-sentient (the Pebbles, plants, the dead) through sweat & tears---and Steven's spit, apparently lol. It's also why the sauna & pool Yellow & Blue were in got sucked into some drain thing. They use that stuff in the process to create more gems.
Also the Pink Pearl _was_ Pink's first pearl. If you remember from Steven's memory-dream in 'jail', Blue warned Pink that if she didn't behave then they were going to take her pearl away. It isn't explicitly stated when/how/why Pink Pearl was taken away, but eventually they replaced her with Our Pearl instead, and Pink, for certain reasons, kept herself in check ever since.

Rainbow 2.0 is canonically he/they fusion as well based off Mary Poppins one of my favorite fusions, Sunstone hit me with 90's cartoons 4th wall breaks to tell the kids a lesson and that made me die laughing.
'Change your mind' is what Steven did with every character he met on the show, anyone who at first tried to kill him, he changed their mind by talking to them. It's one of my favorite songs. I loved rewatching the show alongside you, it made me look forward to new uploads from you, and helped me on my bad days and weeks. I'm looking forward to watching you react to other things.
There is the theory that pink came out "off color" hence her not being that big, thinking different, being different. And that's why they kinda treated her like a child and not up to the task, also why they were so "protective" (controling) and lowkey wanting to "straighten her up"... but it's just a theory 🤷♂️

An interesting bit of gemology, white and pink diamonds have the same crystal structure, with pinks gaining their coloration from intense pressure, contrasting with the coloration from "impurities" like yellow and blue ones.

Fun fact: James Baxter animated the scene where Steven was fusing with himself, and he used to be a Disney animator. Also the eerie music that sometimes appeared in the credits and the voices singing "you" in the last episode's credits connect as one song and that's the reprise version of Love Like You.
I remember watching this finally after marathoning the series after covid started in 2020. I went through the whole roller coaster of emotions. Popping off at all the fusions, feeling SICK when Steven's gem got removed, and just kind of sitting there crying after the song at the end ended. What a series, I loved this, and can't wait to see your reactions to the movie and future. Thanks for going through these.

Fun fact since you watched Adventure Time (or are in the process) the scene at 27:02 where they spin and join back together is animated by the guy who animated and voiced James Baxter the horse from Adventure Time. His name, of course, is James Baxter and he used to be a Disney animator.
People have a lot different reactions to future, some dont like it, but in my opinion future is probably the best epilogue to such a fantastic journey, that really resonated with me, i lost my mom when SU was airing and that was just amazing to see him struggling with the same things i had and future just tied it all back together and sent everyone on a path of healing (Even tho i cried my eyes out while watching it). Its really sad to see it end, but what an amazing show SU is! And Rebecca Sugar is such a gem that came out of that cartoon network era. And question for everyone, after watching the show and it explore such eavy topics, do you still think this is a kids show? Or would you categorize it as adult animation.

I really liked Future. The only problem I had was SPOILER FOR SCOOT IF HE SEES THIS SOMEHOW
the whole monster thing. The monster episode felt incredibly underwhelming and anticlimactic. They were building it up so much just to be resolved in a hug(which is good but there was nothing else that happened besides that and crying) and no damage happened to anyone or anything. I feel like if they erased the entire monster portion and made so they group hugged him in the house, nothing would change.
Bottomline is, the show got cancelled and we ain't getting all the answers we wanted cause the world is homophobic. But there's some stuff that gets answered in Future, and the rest you can piece together yourself. Like how homeworld was broken due to overmining and stuff.
I sobbed so hard when I first watched this at one point I was sobbing and yelling because white reminded me of the abuse I went through growing up. It was very theraputic to watch because I wish I could have been brave enough to confront my own abusers when I was younger.
I agree that they could've done way better with rainbow 2.0 and sunstone's designs, but I still love the finale none the less 😂

Scoot, my man, I have seen a LOT of SU reaction series. Probably all of them (that haven't been struck down to copyright hell), and I gotta say, this has been my favorite. You're just so genuine and humble, wearing your emotions on your sleeve.. Just letting yourself be whoever you are, without trying to put on some kind of show like a lot of reactors do. SU is my all-time favorite show, and getting to experience it with someone seeing it for the first time always makes me feel like it's my first time through again. I can't wait to see you see the movie and Future, but I'll definitely be sticking around for your other reactions. I'm really hyped that you're doing Helluvaboss, but that doesn't have a lot of episodes out. I'm sure we'll find something after that.
Man, this finale is still so, SO good. From the writing of the diamond's interpersonal conflicts, the great new fusions, the FUCKING INSANE part wherever white basically tries to kill steven...it's still a 9.5/10 finale for me. We love ya, scoot, and you have no idea what's waiting for you yet, but believe me when I say it only gets better- and crazier- from here!

Honestly. It’s because of people like this that shows are so bad nowadays.
Fun fact! The reason why the reunion of Steven and his gem was so smooth was because of a famous animator and one of my favorite animators, by the name of *James Baxter!* he also did a whole cameo in Adventure Time, some scenes in Disney movies like the Beauty and the Beast dandelion scene, and many more! He does some of the smoothest animation and I love it!
About pink pearl, she was Pink Diamond's pearl but after Pink was careless (you'll find out later) she was dameged as you can see from that scar, that and how Pink always gets into trouble they took away her pearl (as we hear in Steven's dream at the start) then White "fixed" her and took her for herself. Then after a while when Pink got her first colony she got a new pearl, the main character pearl of the show

Yep, at some point in the past, White and Pink Diamond swapped Pearls. The prevailing theory is that Pink accidentally cracked her Pearl (she can be pretty irresponsible) so White switched hers out and "reset" both of them.

The size of the mech is inconsistent. Remember the temple was about the size of the legs when they were on Earth, but on homeworld, obsidian is the size of a foot.

Man it’s insane how far you’ve already come with this series. It’s really be a trip going through all of this! I can’t wait to see what you do next, some shows coming off of SU’s ending are The Owl House and Amphibia which have the same vibe as SU. Another good one is Rottmnt (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) which has INCREDIBLE animation and so much heart into that story as well

After Steven dropped the "what's your excuse" bar, White Diamond blushed. That means she turned a color. That means she was less than "perfect." She couldn't handle that.
I think Lars' situation already explained Lion. It's just another Pink power - he can resurrect someone from death, then they turn pink and their hair accesses that other dimension. That just comes with the Pink Diamond ability.
Fun fact, when Steven re-fuses with his Pink form and does the twirl-hug, the animation speed cranks up to 60 frames/second, making it look incredibly smoother than anything the show's ever done.
"I don't need to to respect me, I respect me. I don't need you to love me, I love me. But I want you to know you could know me, if you change your mind" As a Nonbinary person this song made me cry tears of relief. Because this is how I feel.
I love this finale and Steven Universe as a whole, but I still wish the ending wasn't rushed. You can tell there was so much more planned. White Diamond went from first mention, to first appearance, to redemption, way too fast. But there's also a lot of evidence that White Diamond wasn't always the boss, and things weren't always this way. Who created the Diamonds, including White? Why do gems have emotions, feelings, independent thoughts, free will, the ability to change, the capacity to feel love? Why do they even have physical feelings like pain, or the ability to cry? Why are gems created with the ability to fuse, even with different types of gems? If White Diamond created them, she wouldn't have made them this way. The only logical reason is because the ORIGINAL creator made them that way, and they weren't supposed to be a "perfect empire", but White Diamond took over and corrupted their goal, possibly even killing her creator. There's also the fact that the gems are a very military species. They've had soldiers and battleships and invasion forces for thousands of years, long before they invaded Earth, and before humans even had the capacity to fight back. The only reason they would have all this stuff is because they have enemies. Remember Jungle Moon? That planet was not a completed colony. It was abandoned. It was destroyed. "Yes I know there's organic life. It's an invasion!". Obviously whoever lived on that planet fought back, and the Diamonds retaliated and destroyed their planet. And why did they need a planet-destroying geoweapon? To stop more rebellions. I bet there was even a galactic rebellion, or at least one other species out there who were actually a threat to Homeworld. You can even see remnants of the pre-Diamond Homeworld society. When Steven and Lars are in lower Homeworld, before the Rutile twins find them, they are in the ruins of the old civilisation, before New Homeworld was built on top of it. You can see statues down there of mix-gem fusions, statues with extra limbs. That means a long time ago, those things were celebrated. But now, that area is patrolled by drones that shatter any gem on sight. Any gem, not just rebels. That's because they're not supposed to see that.
And thus ends, this journey.

Btw, Steven and Pink Steven fused together after being separated. Pink Steven is like the all powerful, monotone version of Steven, while Steven is the human half with personality. I am pretty sure the realization of them being Steven is why they laughed together just before fusing. The separation was a beautiful moment for Steven to realize he is his own person and doesn't have to live up to be someone he isn't. 😌

You're finally here! As I said in the past, I'd love to see you react to the ending song again now that you have the context of the whole series! To explain what happened in the episode a bit more since you said you wanted it, I'd highly reccomend watching "The Most Interesting Scene In Steven Universe", which is an analysis of the final scene with White Diamond and Steven's gem being taken out. But in summary, White Diamond's perspective was that Steven was just a vessel Pink Diamond was embedded in, in the same way that say Lapis was in the mirror or some of the corrupted gems were trapped in objects. Instead, the truth is that Pink Diamond doesn't exist anymore: Whatever memories of hers Steven have are just scant traces left over, but she as a person stopped existing when Steven came into being; His gem half is still "Steven", not pink diamond/rose. When White Diamond realized she was wrong and got embrassed by Steven calling her a child, she let some of her emotions come through, and turned pink: She was repressing herself the same way Blue and Yellow were, and her realization that, contrary to her whole rants about how perfect and above it all she is, she's got "flaws" and indivuality just like everybody else: Both of those realizations about pink and herself made her realize her outlook was wrong.
Additionally, per what you said at 6:45: Pink DIDN'T tell White no, and that's part of her flaws and why Steven did better then her: Pink never stood up for herself and directly confronted White Diamond, or even really straight up drew the line with Yellow and Blue either: She only ever rebelled as "Rose", not as herself. That's part of why Garnet and Bismuth and other characters, including Steven (which will get touched on more in the movie, future, etc) are disillusioned with her. In contrast, Steven actually stands firm and confronts the Diamonds directly, and it works. I also wouldn't say Yellow has "electrcity powers": Yellow can destablize a gem's form/body, or heal it when used in reverse. Blue can mess with gem's emotions, while White messes with their mind. Pink has healing powers, or in reverse as what we see with Pink steven shouting and cracking the room, can destroy and erode things.

The scene where Steven and Pink Steven reunite is animated by animation legend James Baxter. Baxter was THE main character animator at Disney and animated Ariel, Belle, and Esmerlda, among others.
I'm pretty sure that scene where they showed Steven as pink was a time pink actually got in trouble. Blue said white was going to take away her pearl which was probably white pearl

Sunstone is a type of feldspar. (Ca,Na)((Al,Si)2Si2O8). As you can guess, the name comes from the English word sun 🌞, because of its warm coloration. Between 6.5 and 7.2 on the Mohs scale. She's not voiced by Nikki Minaj, but rather by Shoniqua Shandai
Obsidian is an igneous volcanic glass formed when lava rapidly cools - so yes, it is from volcanoes. It's named after Obsidius, the Roman explorer who discovered it in Ethiopia. 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. Obsidian is the sharpest naturally-occurring substance in the world, so it's super fitting that our Ultimate Fusion wields a badass blade. Likewise, it's fitting that Obsidian is technically not a mineral, and is specifically formed without any crystallisation whatsoever, to serve as an opponent for one of the most structured crystals out there, a white diamond.
Just like Stevonnie and Smoky Quartz, all three of Steven's new fusions use they/them pronouns, but it should be noted that she/her pronouns are also acceptable for Sunstone and Obsidian, while he/him pronouns are acceptable for Rainbow Quartz 2.0.
I've always believed that conflicts that are at least partly ideological in nature should, in some way, have their resolution be rooted in the ideologies being fought over, and the Steven Universe finale is a great example of that. One of the problems with Homeworld is that they don't allow inter-Gem fusion, while the Crystal Gems are all in favor of fusing freely, and part of the reason we win is because Steven was able to save the Crystal Gems by fusing midfall*. White Diamond believes in only allowing absolute flawlessness, i.e. herself, while the Crystal Gems believe in individuality, flaws and all, and what do you know? The Crystal Gems prevail by showing that even White herself has flaws of her own, and that Steven's uniqueness was capable of both a power and a beauty that White couldn't have predicted. This whole time, the Diamonds believed that Pink was playing around, pretending to be Steven just as she'd pretended to be Rose Quartz, and yet, the Crystal Gems' victory came about in part by the fact that Pink was truly gone, and Steven is Steven, nobody else.
The movie is more of a standalone story. Future brings back a lot of old characters, answers questions, and brings closure to a lot of things. It's much more grown up in nature than the original. It explores some incredibly intense themes of mental and emotional well-being much more directly. I think a lot of people disliked how it didn't have as many feel-good moments. They're still sprinkled in throughout, but you don't get full episodes of Sadie Killer rocking out or the gems trying to win over Greg's bigoted brother. Future tells a very straightforward story about how a childhood like Steven's affects someone as they transition into adulthood, and each episode is dedicated to advancing that narrative in some way. I thought it was the perfect way to wrap up Steven Universe.
When I watched this episode, I got major chills and cried because my mom used to say very similar things to me growing up.

White diamonds obsession with perfect really fits given how the gems are made of light, white light is only possible when every color of light is in perfect balance, without that balance and perfection white light can’t exist
White may be creepy but her outfit is fabulous. I love the little animation change when steven reconnects with his gem.

The pearls are explained later but what isn’t is what was out pearls originally, it’s technically just a theory but because of the color and placement it’s assumed that our pearl was originally whites.

Lion most likely died as a cub and rose saved him by bringing him back to life. He’s not immortal but he’ll live longer than any mortal creatures, I don’t think either of them need food but still choose to eat. Anything that dies and is brought back by Steven will be pretty much like lion and their hair will be connected to the same pocket dimension

22:10 obsidian is made from lava in a volcano. After this lava starts to rapidly cool down, it turns into a black rock called obsidian and it is found all over volcanos due to the rapid shooting of lava

The prevailing theory about the diamonds is that they represent different parts of the human psyche. iirc White is the Superego, Blue and Yellow are the Ego (one the emotional part, one the logical part), while Pink is the Id.

Fans in this comment section seem to forget that the entire Steven Universe show is an analogy of an LGBT+ person discovering and attaining their LGBT+ identity. White Diamond is the conservative parent who cannot accept that her adorable little pink daughter is actually a transgender who while she discovers her identity also discovers the existence of more "different" LGBT+ people. She runs away from home and confronts her conservative family defending the LGTB + world until she, now he, manages to convince his family to accept the normality of LGTB + people.
White Diamond taking the gem from Steven is an analogy of the parent trying to force their child back to his previous identity as a lovely feminine princess. But taking the gem away from Steven means taking away his true identity, without which he can't live, without which he can't exist and be him. The story of "a gem alien mother who has a half-human son" is just a very metaphorical and imaginative way of telling the life story of a trans person dealing with their identity.

There's a lot of overlap with fans of all three of those shows.
I'm really glad you got to get into this series! It's been a joy re-experiencing it as you get to watch it for the first time. It's a memorable series for sure
