2009 M57TU2 with the sport auto. Stage 1 remap done and driven for over 100000km by me. Only issue, leaking seals on the swirlflaps and minimum oil consumption. Swirlflaps blanked, everything cleaned, 20000km later, not a single drop of oil consumed. Gearbox rated for 650Nm, stage 1 remap is at 600Nm. No issues what do ever. Egr and DPF still intact.

these engines are very solid mechanical,no problem holding up to stage 2 or even 3,as long as the tuner knows his stuff. I had a m57d25 couple of years ago that was tuned, now i want a e60 535d m57 and tune it + air and 19". That will be alot of fun!

Great video, made by an enthousiastic BMW owner. Do drive myself an 335D/E91 LCI since 2016. It had done 70k, now about 170k. The ECU is mapped stage 1 at 90k. DPF/EGR cooler etc./swirfflaps removed before the remap (including walnut blasting). Car drives fantastic without any problem since remap. Actually it drives much better and gasoil consumption has decreased. No oil spill. Oil change every 10k. Gearbox oil changed at 100k. In my opinion, a remap does not have to cause problems. But, use the engine in a proper way. Do not save money on maintenance. The lack of maintenance will be a greater risk to the M57 engine then a remap by a (German) professional tuner. My intake manifold gets only clean air. There is no carbon built up anymore. Both turbo's can spool freely as the DPF is no longer there. In other words the engine can handle some more power easily, the gearbox will normally not been tested to its limits, if you avoid the higher revs and just use now and then. The engine after remap is so much more smoothly, especialy at the lower revs. Regular oil changes are vital on the M57, especially when tuned and will help extend the life and reliability of the engine.

Mine is now on 190kmiles, Egr blanked, swirl flaps done, vacuum lines done, bigger intercooler, 3inch straight pipe off the turbo, air filter, and remap running 381bhp with a gearbox flash oil changes every 5k miles, and haven’t had any issues at all

Great video, the one I've been waiting on. Some very true words, I got my e90 m57 remapped stage one and it started burning a bit of oil then I noticed the turbo whistling so had it hybrided (if that's the word) and mapped again to suit the turbo and all is well again. I've done everything mentioned except the glowplugs and unit so I look forward to that video, I'm hoping it can be done without taking the manifold off, cant see it though. Best man on CZcams for BMW stuff.

By deleting the EGR, engine light will be on, also the engine is programed (maped) to receive a volume of air and gas, does this will impact the good function of engine, i didn't understood your point regarding thermostat and water pump, you recommended to change them when deleting the EGR, or it is need to do something additional when deleting the EGR

The 535d here and the 7 series have a much bigger tank. Do you know if there is enough room for a bigger tank in the 3 series?

Dear Friend I really enjoy your videos and your knowledge about BMW. I live in tiny Costa Rica far away from a good BMW mechanic expert like you. My old X5 2002 M57 3.0d has a massive oil leak mix with diesel, it seem to be leaking trough the turbo gaskets. Can this be related to a failure in the crankcase ventilation unit (crankcase breather)? I find that the oil hose that returns the oil to from the turbo back to the engine is strangle can this be a problem with turbo leaking. I will highly appreciated your any advice you can give me.

No racing is done on this x5 so would you recommend me going back to stock map (if thats still possible) and take the xhp out? Thanks, the videos are really informative.

I do recommend Ravennol 5-40 NDT for the M57 engine. Originally made for trucks. Most C3 Oils are low on additives (low saps) due to the particle filter. The ndt oil is something between low an full saps and goes well with particle filters.
If you want to spend a bit more money Ravennol RUP is your choice.

Great video but would disagree on Remap thing. Engine, turbo and gearbox hold the stage 2 with no issues with supporting hardware. The problems is in too many £150 driveway and cheap tuners who just make dramatic spike in torque and are chasing top end numbers without knowledge. That's why their dyno graph looks like ups and downs throughout whole rev range. They don't understand that it's all about correct and sensible bringing the torque in and actual area under the power curve and how useable that power is. That way, turbo is not maxed out, not putting too much pressure on engine and gearbox and not having heatsoaking issues like with dodgy maps because of all temperature indexes/logs they mess up with. And then they wonder how is proper tuned M57 with 20-30hp less faster then theirs. lol

Totally agree, if the 335d can run 300+ hp as stock then what is the problem tuning another m57 the same, ofcourse with the supporting mods aswell and a proper map. As you say too many bad maps giving mapping a bad rep.

I enjoy all your videos including this one. But saying a map will make this engine unreliable is hard for me to agree with.
Had my e60 530d 8 years. Been mapped for 7 years and the car has been amazingly reliable.
Don't thrash the engine constantly as that will destroy most engines.
    Change the oil every 6k.
A looked after engine is reliable. A abused engine isn't.

With the swirl flaps I think you can just cut off the flaps instead of getting the blanks. There is definitely a vid on youtube of a guy doing it. I think he used a dremel to grind off the screws holding the flaps down and simply replaced it. No need for blanks.

M57 comes with forged crank and rods as stock so what internals would you change? The m57 in the 335 comes at 305 hp, same block and internals so why couldn't you tune another m57 to do the same?

  • @Kev-E46
    @Kev-E46 Před rokem

doesnt make sense to say you shouldnt remap it, or do even more power wise, because you damage the engine, while only mentioning the gearbox/convertor cant handle it.... the engine doesnt give you any real problems up to around 400hp.
