When I have friends over or am playing with my family we play with the TV, but because the time I have to play video games is usually when my family is home the TV is being used by them, thus I can not use the Switch. To the point where they would be hesitant to cut support for the switch without a way to carry everything from this generation to the next through an upgrade, or even cut support at all. And the consumers would see that anything that loses what we already have is a downgrade and would probably be less likely to buy a new console, making most new moves failures. So they either lose consumers if they don’t have some huge amount of innovation that would make the switch obsolete or they continue to support switch hardware indefinitely
My money’s on supporting the switch, as this console is the most steadily growing (rather than occasional spikes like with wii and ds) and will likely continue to sell well since the popularity is only growing. They will probably sell an upgraded version or two, and probably try to introduce peripherals in place of their usual new console innovations, but they will at the very least continue to support game development and sales on the switch and eshop. The wii only lost it since the switch made it practically obsolete, so unless we get something that comes with the switch benefits, it’s games, and adds new benefits as well, there will be no way or reason that they will truly end the switch, whether it’s been 7 years, 14 years, or more

I wasn't a nintendo fan in particular, I've almost strictly played on my pc my entire life but the actual selling point of the switch, the thing that made me buy the console were the 1st party nintendo releases. Nintendo makes great games, as soon as I saw the trailer for breath of the wild i was like "I have to play this game", so I bought the switch and haven't regretted my decision since. I'm not the type of guy who brings his switch everywhere he goes, don't get me wrong, I like the fact that you have the option of going portable if you prefer to do so, but I mostly play on my switch while I'm at home.

My own Switch came home a year and a half ago, and play time has been pretty much shared between modes. For the last few months I've been playing mostly tabletop, so handheld's still very important for me. Then again, I'm also in a weird place for docked play - there's only one TV in my house, so if I want to play anywhere that isn't the living room handheld's the way to go. Docked is really for down time, and a wonderful way to share what I play with my family.
All in all, I still love my Swutch despite its flaws. It certainly helps that I haven't gotten any drift yet, probably because I so often use the Pro controller.

Happy fourth! I always look forward to these videos every year from everyone. Addressing some of your main points:
Joycon drift is still an absolute pain, but I've found it to be well worth it to invest in a few Joycon sticks and the tiny screwdriver you need to take the Joycons apart. My advice is to make sure to buy a screwdriver separately from the Joycons since the ones that come with "Joycon replacement kits" on eBay tend to be cheaply made to the point where they can strip the Joycon screws (which also seem to be made as cheaply as the rest of the Joycon's components). You'll also want to take it slow and maybe take some pictures of the Joycons to have a record of how all the ribbon cables and other parts need to connect. Outside of that, it's fairly straightforward replacing the stick and once you've done it enough, you can go through the process in no time at all if/when you need to replace the stick multiple times.
As far as general Switch use, I still feel I'm 50/50 between playing docked and handheld. There are some games I play exclusively docked (Smash Bros, Mario Odyssey), some games I play exclusively handheld (Animal Crossing, basically all indie games), but most others off the top of my head I play however is most convenient for me at the time. That's the one thing about the Switch I don't think will ever change: the hybrid nature of the system allows you to play exactly how you want and that flexibility will always make the Switch a fantastic gaming platform.
That being said, I've honestly been incredibly underwhelmed by the power of the Switch since 2017. It started off on an incredibly high note: I still remember the very first time playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe after having logged in dozens of hours across my Wii U and playing on friends' consoles. Playing 8 Deluxe handheld for the first time and just having that formerly Wii U exclusive experience fully contained in what's essentially an extremely slimmed down Wii U Gamepad I can take everywhere was when the Switch "magic" really hit me hardest and had me believing we could truly have uncompromised console quality experiences on the go. Then I played DOOM 2016 on it that exact same year and was completely disgusted with how it played handheld. Every CZcamsr couldn't stop singing its praises, but I personally found it to be borderline unplayable handheld. It was better when docked, but at that point, I'd rather play it on any other console.

Our library is almost entirely physical so we can swap back and forth. A few tiles I’ve had to buy twice since the kids love them so much. But I just can’t afford replacing the joy cons any more and have had to buy the more reliable pro controllers. I need to figure out how to repair the joy cons. I just want more old games lol, I'm glad that the early 3D games are now getting some love after the 8 bit and 16 bit craze

Just pick up some contact cleaner at Walmart. It's only $10-15, and one little spray will clear it right up! Just use the straw to lift up the rubber flap on the underside of the joystick- no need to even take it apart. Seriously, it takes five minutes, and one treatment will last you months! Plus, if it ever starts getting drifty again, just use the same bottle. It's fantastic! I've had great success with both pairs of my joycon, as well as my friend's!

As a student who lives with their parents, handheld mode is a blessing. For parents that don't quite understand video games they are more bothersome on the TV. That's when all the noises that they think are annoying are louder. I like handheld mode because I can play while they use the TV and I don't have to worry about bothering them.

Most of Nintendo's major franchises have hit the Switch, so what I'm really hoping for during the 2nd half of its life is that some of their smaller and/or weirder series get new entries. Rhythm Heaven, WarioWare, Wario Land, Advance Wars, Punch-Out, 2D Metroid, F-Zero, Golden Sun, Pilotwings, Tomodachi Life, Kid Icarus, StarTropics, Pikmin, Chibi-Robo - I would NEVER expect all or even most of them to show up, but a Nintendo system's library feels incomplete to me without some of their more cult series making an appearance. The Famicom Detective Club remakes are coming soon though, which is a nice start.

I use it mostly in handheld mode. I just like to lay on bed or sit in some comfy chair and play games. My eyesight is not the best without glasses, but I can see things in front of me clearly, so playing in handheld is way better for me than TV mode. But I do use the TV mode, when we have a couch co-op party at home or at events... altough I've been closed up at my mom's house for half a year now. But it has been an amazing 4 years. I have way too many games for my Switch and I played a lot.. A LOT of them.

This heropon peaks the truth. I still find it hard to believe that BotW is capped at 30fps. 60fps in 4K on PC is so utterly gorgeous, it's offensive we don't possess it in our hands. Both Xenoblades are already the best looking games on Switch from art style alone! Imagine the improvements if Nintendo could push their power...

Handheld was good and legitimately useful for the first 2 years or so. However, Joycon drift killed it for me. Now I mainly stick to the docked version using the pro controller.
I really hope Nintendo gets their Joycons straightened out. Joycon drift is probably my #1 issue with the console.

I used to be about 70/30 with tv and handheld, but over the years I've played handheld more and more and now I'd honestly say that I play handheld 90% of the time. Idk why, but it just fits into my day so perfectly and allows me a ton of flexibility. I'm positive I wouldn't be playing half as many games rn if the switch was home console only, and I can't imagine a Nintendo console not being portable again

Handheld mode is really great for college students who might travel, or go back home for a holiday. If we get a three day weekend, I can bring the switch to my parents house, and not need to worry about bringing the whole set up. The switch works really well for those "three day weekend" type situations where you're away from home for just short enough that you can't bring everything, but long enough that you'll inevitably get bored.
