This was EXACTLY how I felt about Pikmin’s sudden rise. This franchise has been a family favorite for decades now and I couldn’t be happier that people are playing these underrated gems.
Where did this sudden interest come from, though? It’s deserved, and I’m glad it happened, but what changed?
@Gloomdrake The Switch has been selling like hot cakes so that presents new audience's, and Pikmin 4 was made more approachable for nervous fans, as Arlo said.

It was SUCH a good move to release a demo. They gotta do this more often
The demo lasted me 5 hours and I craved for more. Nintendo made the right decision to do this.
The demo had a surprising amount of replayability to it. I made numerous saves and made a game out of seeing if I could 100% the first area before the demo ended

imho pikmin 4 was the best game to give a demo for, giving you just enough but not too much to appetize the palette, legit played the heck out of that demo until i could buy the game
for real, not only was it a long ass demo that really allowed you to get a feel for the game, i dont think i would have bought it day 1 like i did if i DIDNT play the demo, purely out of skepticism
Arlo and Scafrillas refusing to shut up about how much they love this series really carried me it to buying it.
I already knew what it was due to Domtendo (German CZcamsr, sorry if this summons other fans of his) and his Pikmin 3 lp But Arlo is most definitely the main reason I decided to join this community and when 3deluxe came out I got it.
I became instantly addicted the progress of beating the game faster than faster than before was more satisfying than many things I had in gaming before.
This series is something I hold dear to my heart now and I don't think that I can thank anyone but Arlo for reviving my interest in this series and skyrocketing it enough for me to get to playing it😊

Arlo is so engraved with getting people to play Pikmin that he is practically Captain Arlomar at this point and we are his Pikmin. He just flings us onto all of the Pikmin games to play them

It’s now the top selling game in Japan for 5 weeks with 710,000 sold at retail! With digital it’s definitely surpassed a million in Japan alone. Amazing growth for the series!
I don't want to jump to conclusions, but comparing it to Kirby and the forgotten land it is both selling better in Japan and is doing better on Google trends. And Kirby is on pace for 8m sales eventually. Maybe pikmin won't have the same legs or something but the potential is there for this game to hit 7-8m if things go right.
In a lot of ways, mobile phone gaming is to to thank for a lot of these recent successes. (Fire Emblem, Metroid, Pikmin…etc). A lot of new gamers crossed over from the phone gaming market and its been wonderful for series that didn’t quite catch on originally.
The sigh of relief I had seeing just how good it was selling in Japan is indescribable. There was so much worry and hope and to have that actually not get thrown back at us is just beautiful. I already watched Chibi Robo be sent to the gallows, my little heart couldn't take losing Pikmin too.
I truly adore how wholesome and unhinged we pikmin fans are.
Arlo is the whole reason I knew what _Pikmin_ was. Thank you for getting me hooked. With the entire franchise available on a single console and the internet hyping it up, it's no wonder that the series is finally getting it's due, and I couldn't be happier.

After recently getting into a bunch of arguments about gatekeeping certain interests, seeing Arlo so happy that more people are looking into his favorite thing and enjoying it instead of blasting it as "bandwagoning" is so soul healing.

@@cledgefenrir5681I find it impossible to take my time with a game. I have to play as much of it as soon as possible. Like I understand the logic behind not playing it all at once, it gives you something to look forward to and it lasts longer. But at the same time, I DON’T understand it. The time spent not playing it is, well, time spent not playing it. Not enjoying it.
Then again I also have an absurd amount of free time. Most people probably don’t have that luxury.
I haven't finished it either but mostly because I find it too boring. What I was scared of actually came to be, just like how I consider Pikmin 2 worse than P1 and P3 worse than P2, again P4 is worse than P3. This wouldn't have been too bad because I still think P1-P3 are all pretty good (tge drop from game to game was never too big) but P4 has gotten so bad that I'm scared about the quality of future games. If waiting almost a decade leads to something like THIS, then yikes. Not looking forward to P5.... :(
@@Pit1993xSilly flareon with fittingly hot takes uwu. I do have some issues with it but mostly in pikmin control and ai feeling more clunky than original pikmin 1. Because of that, 2 is still my fav. Plus 2 also has awesome mods like colossal caverns which is basically infinite pikmin content
I genuinely think that Arlo had a pretty big impact on pikmin 4 sales. So many people I know got into pikmin purely through Arlos dedication to this franchise

As a veteran of the series who conquered every cave in Pikmin 2 with minimal casualties, it warms my heart to see streamers freaking out as their little troopers are massacred.
I love that Brandon Sanderson is being more and more recognized. He's been one of my favorite authors for years. Glad you enjoyed Mistborn Arlo (not that arlo will see this)

Yeah, I remember reading Mistborn books in late high school or early college, which for me would have been 2007-2009ish. His stuff has been fantastic for a long time.
My favorite author is Jim Butcher, and favorite series is Dresden Files. It’s a lot goofier/less epic fantasy than Mistborn, but I bet there’s a lot of overlap in that fan base. He has a more epic fantasy series that I really like as well, but Dresden Files is just so great.

I've only read a few chapters since I'm not much of a book reader, but it was definitely engaging! Hope I can get back into it someday. I was so surprised when Kelsier got added to Fortnite. I would've given him beard, though.
I played the Pikmin 4 demo when it dropped and I just had to get the full game. I’ve been successfully converted.

the demo was an awesome decision and execution from Nintendo.
People can finish the demo quickly or they can try to get all treasures.
That allows causal players to get a realistic casual game and allows "gamers" to get as much out of the first area as possible, warming up the community with discussion, guides, tips and tricks...
Pikmin 4 has made me want to work my way backwards through the series, it truly has sparked a love for Pikmin in me

I played pikmin 4,then i bought pikmin1+2 and then bought pikmin 3 deluxe
4 is the best.
Out of the others:
2 is the best, longest, and most engaging.
3 has the funnest overworld bits, the whole thing is overworld puzzles and stuff, also like having 3 captains that are throwable.
1 is an all time classic and the stress of the 30 day time limit is actually a lot more fun and engaging than you would think. It's definitely the most unique of the games

The title is appropriate because I seriously felt like crying tears of joy watching this video. I've been wanting this series to go mainstream for YEARS, and... here it is. It's finally happening. Pikmin is being played by more people than ever before and my poor heart can barely take it! I started playing Pikmin since at least 2010 (probably a little earlier than that, really), and IT'S FINALLY GETTING BIG!
It took 22 years to get it, but it made it.
You and Schaffrillas are the reason why I’m playing Pikmin 4 and I feel like a fool for not playing Pikmin sooner.
Go play pikmin 1 especially and the rest later if ya ever get the time. Every single game in the series is its own completely different experience to the point all of them stand to have their place with one another c:

I think putting out that demo was the best decision they could have ever made. Just hearing about pikmin i wasn’t sure it’s be something I’d enjoy, but after playing the demo I was hooked! Pikmin isn’t something that’s easy to explain to other people, but letting people get a taste of it for free has is allowed so many people (like me!) to see how incredible the series is!
Its a lot like Animal crossing. It's hard to say why the games are appealing since they shouldn't be technically but they are
the demo was really briliant. It created a buzz and community before the game was out and a lot of content being unlocked later, there was plenty to discuss after the release.
Arlo, I can confidently say that while I knew what Pikmin was and I always had a small want to get into the series, your absolute passion for this game shines through from one fan to another. Your passion for this series is as genuine as it comes, and that is hard to ignore.
Watched to see Arlo being happy.

Visiting Japan right now and there are little "who's that pokemon" quizzes but with treasures from Pikmin. I'm so happy to see it grow. It's such a special game. So many time/resource management games are stressful. Pikmin let's me scratch that itch and stay chill ❤

You might not have introduced me to Pikmin, however literally everything you say I relate to. I found Pikmin and I loved it so dearly… I wanted it to be known more and didn‘t even know if it was possible. But Pikmin 4 is out, I played it and I am now considering to tie my friends to chair put joy cons in their hands and make them play through all 4 Pikmin games.

I got this same exact feeling when monster hunter world came out. I was a long diehard fan of the series but couldn’t find anyone to play with as a kid. I asked everyone i met if they played the game and i always got the same answer, no-one played it. But when world came out and sold 15 million copies i suddenly had so many friends itching to play. It was one of the best feelings ever.

I wish they put out more Pikmin shorts. Those CZcams animated shorts for Pikmin 3 re-release were incredibly good.

Seeing you talk about Pikmin and your reaction to the Pikmin 4 announcement was what made me first want to play the demo. I played the demo three times then decided I wanted to just get the games. Couldn't wait for 1 & 2 to be released physically, so I just got 4 and am loving it.

Is it weird that at 16:39 , when Arlo was welcoming new fans (like myself) into the fandom, I wanted to hug him? Like, give him one of those "Thank you" hugs? I've always known of Pikmin since Smash 4, but Arlo was the one to really open my eyes to the fandom. Hearing him sound so welcoming to new fans in a cyber landscape where hate and overall negativity tends to rule... it's refreshing.
Dude, me and my friend played Pikmin 2 battle mode during our lunch break and it was some of the most fun I've had with a friend ever. Pikmin is so good.

I still remember the first time I played Pikmin. I saw it one day in my friend's collection and I was curious so I asked him what it was, since the cover looked so different from all the other games. He didn't even know because he'd never played it and didn't know where he got it from. I borrowed it from him and took it home and I must have played it like 14 times in a row.
I was so fascinated and in love with the game. The heartache of becoming a fan that you and having to wait through the entirety of my school years just for another game to come out was crushing. Doesnt help that metroid and Fire Emblem are my other favorite series, and those wrent doing so hot for a while either. I'm so glad they're all seeing a resurgence
As someone who's been a huge fan of PIkmin since the first game's release on Gamecube (I was very young at the time when I first played it), I want to say that I completely agree with you that this has felt AMAZING to watch unfold. I'm very happy that Pikmin is finally getting the attention it deserves, and in a year PACKED with huge releases, at that!
Currently the same thing is kind of happening with Armored Core 6 (I'm currently playing that as well and it's amazing) and it's so lovely to see these old lesser-known franchises get the love and attention they finally deserve. Extra impressive that it's happening in a year with so many huge releases of huge franchises that are breaking records.
Hell yeah I just finished the second era of Mistborn and it’s rad. Would love to see those made into action games, I think they’d be perfect

The 4 demo is what got me to try pikmin. I enjoyed the demo a lot and I'd definitely say I'm a fan now. Haven't been playing it much lately because I tend to watch things on my phone while gaming and I don't want to miss the music the game has but I'm definitely gonna finish the game eventually.

I first got into Pikmin 20 years ago and the first game was so good I got my brother and friends to try the series as well and we all still play Pikmin to this day.

Since I now own Pikmin on my Switch, I've just been playing it in the lounge where there's a TV, and people come up and just watch and relax and watch this strange little Pikmin game that they have never seen before.

so happy to be a new pikmin fan!! i think that the lengthy demo was the best aspect of the marketing, because it's so hard to explain the appeal of pikmin without playing it. i for sure wouldn't have bought it if i didn't play the demo!
I started playing Pikmin the week 1 and 2 came to Switch, but on the Wii U. I purchased it when it was first announced the eShops were closing but never got to playing.
It was intimidating at first but I absolutely fell in love with the series. I seriously can't believe others or myself haven't played it before. They're all so good and now I can never forget the noise Pikmin make when drowning.
I think it's really cool that a lot of people are going back and playing the first and second games. Old Easter eggs are reaching new eyes, like Fiddlebert.
I love pikmin 4 so much. I'm already on a 2nd playthrough which almost never happens with me. Its phenomenal and I bet it will get an update with more difficulty options (turning off auto lock on lol). Its also very easy for newcomers to get a hang of everything which will almost definitely help them become returning pikmin fans. Idk if this is even related to the video, I just wanted a place to gush about this game
I’ve known about Pikmin for a while, and had considered getting Pikmin 3 Deluxe for a bit, but the hype around Pikmin 4 pushed me over the edge and I couldn’t be happier! I’m so happy to see everyone finally playing pikmin! I’ve been in this group for a while, but it’s so exciting to see so many new people play it! The fact that there is so much advertisement, so many content creators are making videos on it, even those who never even did game related content are making pikmin content! It makes me excited to see the future.

Honestly this is my same reaction with the growing success of Pikmin 4. This game played a massive part in my life (I legit spammed played it for 3 months as a kid), and it was such a struggle being a massive fan and not having anyone to know about it. I love seeing how the series is getting the recognition I honestly believe it deserved back in the early 2000's.
I still remember the struggle to get Pikmin 2 and how I convinced my parents to go around store to store, just to find out almost no store had unpacked the game yet, despite the NA wii release that same day XD!!!
I was actually wanting to try out Pikmin 4 as my first game but my friend insisted playing the first three before doing so. I can definitely say that I’ve become a huge fan after the first game. Just finished the 2nd game recently and now jumping into the 3rd game. So when I beat it I absolutely can’t wait to play Pikmin 4.

Pikmin is fun.
You were largely the reason I decided to buy Pikmin 4, it had always just existed in the back of my mind until I started watching your videos and you just kept mentioning how much you adore the series.
Now I’m trying to get my friends to buy it, but I can’t pinpoint exactly what I like about the game, so I just describe it as “the cuteness of Animal Crossing and Kirby mixed with the stress and war tactics of Call of Duty”
My favourite thing about 4 is that it doesn't punish you for wanting to stop and smell the roses, but still drip feeds you more stressful challenges and situations. My friends were so stressed out by the idea of the time limits that they wouldn't get into the older games but they're considering 4, meanwhile I get to enjoy the stressful sidemodes and platinum'd everything. And even normal gameplay gets to go rough at times... Without spoiling anything, there's a certain room in the last cave of the game that feels pulled straight from a pikmin 2 kaizo mod.
I’ve been a Pikmin fan for a while now and seeing new people and so many videos playing and trying Pikmin for the first time just warms my heart.

I don’t think it can be understated how much this is Pikmin’s first, real, honest to goodness, _fair_ shake.
I think we also owe some thanks to Smash Bros for at least acknowledging the series' existence. Much like Earthbound/Mother, a lot of the reason people knew Pikmin existed was Smash. Now, EB had Undertale to indirectly push people towards it too, but at the same time that series ended.
Chuggaaconroy also probably did a fair bit for it in the early 2010s. I found out from a friend and instantly fell in love with it, but thats probably the rarest type of Pikmin fan because of its niche initial release.
The fact that the Wii had reverse compatibility also probably helped save Pikmin a little bit, as if you really wanted, you could still play it on the Wii before NPC happened.
No one of these factors was huge, but each gave it just that little extra nudge, I feel, and a necessary one at that.

Pikmin 4 is my first pikmin game, I picked it up a couple of days ago and I am so IN LOVE!!! I dont know why I never heard or knew about it before but I am so glad to be playing!! I have been in a mental rutt for awhile now, and anytime im feeling sad I turn on my switch and play Pikmin. My lil guys bring me so much joy and laughter and I am determined to not let any die!! haha. Love your videos so so much and im glad that I found them!! It is awesome to see someone love Pikmin so much!! Hope you are well and thank you for all your hard work with these videos!!
Arlo, im so sorry you are having bad neck injuries at this point in time. It actually sounds horrible and I would not wish it on my worst enemies. But trust me, people are loving it, the community is wild, and this is a positive thing. The day has finally come, and you may rest even more then you already have, knowing that Pikmin exists, and people are listing. And trust me, you will need at least a good bit of energy for some challenges and the very end game. So rest up, and play when you can.

1:50 This is how I feel about the patapon series. No matter who I ask, it seems like nobody has even heard of these amazing games.
I had recently gotten into the series last year and immediately fell in love with it. I knew it was always a bit more niche in Nintendo's lineup, so to see it finally hit it big time is incredible. I can only imagine what it must feel like for fans since the gamecube days.
