  • Join Jordan in another StorageReview Edge Lab Misadventure! Today we test out the new AMD 8700G and AMD 8600G APU's, complete with benchmarks for both chips.
Full report on the site www.storagereview.com/review/...
After we benchmark the 8700G, we take the APU off roadmap and deploy an Unraid NAS using the 45Drives 45HomeLab HL15 chassis, and a wild assortment of drives.

I'd love more videos on Unraid! I put optane in mine.

TBH we haven't logged any time with Unraid, this is the first time we've ever even mentioned it in a review. The time may have come for us to invest more time there...glad you liked that!

Man this guy is nuts. What a unique use case! Someone should give him a raise for this coverage!

Such a shame it doesn't support ECC memory. Have to wait until the Pro series... Great review, thanks

Wasn't the DDR5 supposed to be ECC in all designs?

The 5700G at one time was $339. The price quickly dropped to about $160. I am sure the current APU's will get a lot cheaper at some point in the not to distant future.

In how much time it dropped to 160 dollars?

I def like the use of the HL15 for Unraid.
Some cool config testing would be: HL15 with all NVME and SAS SSD array (transfer speeds, rebuild times), HL15 with NVME parity with spinners (transfer speeds and rebuild times)
Do either of these configs make VMs faster or seem faster?

Really curious to see your VM performance with the GPU passthrough. I run VMware and have lots of GPU passthrough and even using thin clients with Horizon. Would love to see alternatives.

Did you have to install drivers for GPU in unraid?

Jordan, do they make you spend all day in the server room or do you do this by choice?

    • @StorageReview
      @StorageReview  Před 5 měsíci +1

This is Brian aka "The Boss" replying. I don't let anyone out of the server room, their homelab basement and I definitely do not allow for fun. This sir is a content business and if you're not contenting, you're last. Or something like that, inspiration via Ricky Bobby.

at 720p...performance is handheldish okay ....but come on its 2024.....
at 1080p its more 1060 comparison...
      limited encoder option inbuild..
      limited PCI capabilities....
......limited Price to Performance ratio in terms of CpU GPu.... useless
a lot of Mini pc with dedicated GPu beat the bits out of this...
its a bad choice for updating a older APU only for special cases like ultra Mini Systems or Fan boys
