This is going to be an awesome series of videos!!
Indeed. I'm already anticipating the next installment.
The cat 😺 was approving the work 😆
Camera hound...
At first I thought Steve was talking about a model car. Seriously, what a radical idea back then and then to carry it out , amazing. Leave it to hot rodders.
"back then"? it was in 2009, that wasn't that long ago. I wish we had had the forethought to videotape stuff back in the 80s and 90s.
The whole altered wheelbase thing started in the early 60's
Please watch as many of Steve’s videos as you can to support him through his recovery. Thank you.
I don't want to wait until tomorrow! 😭 Steve is so cool. A walking, talking encyclopedia.
A plethora of automotive knowledge.
I doubt there's any encyclopedias that contain the knowledge that he possesses. The man can stand there and basically explain, accurately, every aspect about any given automobile. I'll be willing to bet that he could do the same thing with any random European made cars as well. Seriously, the man is like a savant.
"Hi, this is Billy Mays with the power of Flex Tape. Watch as I cut this Dart in half.."
Steve makes the best instructor for this tech. work. Looking forward to more!
See you on Barrett-Jackson! This is gonna be better than most TV builds. When you have a great teacher learning becomes fun easy. But I will say I've been told by many ol timers when they say "this is gonna be easy" or "all you gotta do is..." watch out you fixin to get busier than a one-legged man pushing a wheelbarrow
Steve's Hot Rod Cat ? Not a bad guy at all !
Dude I love the old school intro .
This is really exciting! Can't wait for the next episode. Very interesting stuff!
A/FX…what a great history of Funny Cars👍
Wow. Thanks for thinking of us junkyard crawl fans while you're out doing other things. I can't think of too many other people who would worry about people missing their daily dose of Steve and find a fun alternative like this. Can't thank you enough.
Love these kind of videos Steve!!!! Keep feeding them to us lol
Well said, will watch all of them
steve..glad you had the chance to escape Cali..
Hello iamrichrocker, I spent 17 years in Los Angeles and generally enjoyed it BUT eventually I realized it was just too darned crowded. So I did my part to make it a little better....I left. But I am forever thankful / grateful to California for being the place where my professional career took root and upon which everything - including this CZcams Channel - is built upon. THANKS for writing, Steve Magnante
Good morning from Montreal Canada 🇨🇦
Yay Montreal! My brother David graduated from McGill in 1983. He was a pre-med student and belonged to the Zeta Psi fraternity. I remember visiting him a few times and swilling Molson from a never-empty refrigerator room. One of the Molson family was a Zate! Thus the bottomless beer mugs! Fun days long past. I also remember the Hotel Meridien where my family visited back during a Winter Olympics when my brother was checking out McGill (before he decided to go there). I remember the Montreal subways were CLEAN and had this interesting tri-tone horn sound effect when they got under way...sorta like a bugler signaling a charge! Very different from the Boston "T" subway...which has recently "graduated" from square wheels to octagonal wheels. Anyhoo, THANKS for writing and HELLO Montreal! -Steve Magnante
Thanks Steve! I always wondered how they did wheelbase mods and how they seemed to look almost “factory” when done. Can’t wait for the next parts of this series...
Love it Steve! A racing buddy of mine actually just bought the Wilshire Shaker. Altered Wheelbase cars are awesome!
Hello, did your buddy buy the Wilshire Shaker from the folks in Chicago i sold it to? Just curious...THANKS for watching and writing, Steve Magnante
Old school Steve Magnante reminds me of Old school MC Search from 3rd base. Word to the 3rd and Word to Steve Mags.
Aaaaand this is one reason why I follow Steve. 👍
Didn’t know about this footage. Bought the book last year to go along with one of the 63 Chevy II builds I’ve got going. 👍
Hi Lewis Mocaby, the book was photographed right along side the video. You'll recognize many of the "set ups" from pictures in the book! Thanks for buying the book and I hope you enjoy the video series. -Steve Magnante
This is what I like seeing friend, to be honest the junk yard videos are ok, but what got me interested in your channel was when you started your project on the cop car and the 440 max wedge, now this video series is going to be intriguing .👍
OK, so we didn't have videos back in the 60s and 70s, they were just showing up in the mid and late 70s. My point is I sure wish we had this video back in the days when I was still building and working on cars!! In the late 70s I had just gotten into sand rails. The favorite car I ever owned was the 65 Dodge Dart Charge!! Got it new in June of 65. No, I would have never cut up that car!!!
I was one of the purchasors of this dvd back in the day...very well worth the look see! Great job Steve!!!
Have a great time at the auction Steve.
The cat @ 06:59 😂
All cat's be like "Yea whatever, check out this butthole."
Love it, thank you Steve, as I never had the original DVD you sold...so this series is a godsend- Kudos !
"Two Cool Shorts Standing Side By Side"
Geez, digging the Chevy II. Owned a '62 6cyl, 3 sp & a '64 SS 4sp that someone had put a 327/300hp engine in. Several buddies owned '66 327/350hp Novas & '70 396/375hp back in the day
I’ve never wanted to binge so much on a series of videos……………….and then been denied - ever heard of Netflix Steve😂😂😂
Cool 56 chev truck.
Looks like it’s on a “modern” 70s chassis.
Imagine seen that Vehicle driving in Los Angeles. I think Steve said he lived in El Monte. 👍👍👍
Awesome! I hope the car is still around today!
Mag ROCKS enjoy the auction! Definitely I want too build a wagon to roll with my kiddos.
Steve, bought your book online a few years back and read cover to cover. Very good and makes the conversion job simpler, if that is the right way to put it. Have fun and B/J.
Steve, you didn't tell him s you have a co-host in this video! Kitty wants equal time!!
Get well soon Steve we miss you
I saw your Fairmont at Stafford Springs Swap meet
Great series. Cheers
I love how this is shaping up to be. Some of the tips can even be used in my model car building!!
2:30. Kitty!!! Inspecting, of course.
I still have that dvd!
Awesome stuff, Thanks Steve. And who knew you were such a stud? hahaha.
Steve had his shop foreman, the cat in the video.
That's Buddy Boy, a fantastic black kitty I had for about 10 years. You'll also see "Cookies" the longer haired calico cat. Both cats (plus 2 others travelled East with me when I moved from Los Angeles to Massachusetts in 2011-ish. All but Cookies went in the belly of jet airliners (it wasn't cheap but I just couldn't abandon them). Cookies and I drove the 3,200 miles from CA to MA in a 1991 Mazda 323 I bought just for the one-way trip. It got us "home" to Massachusetts but within a few weeks the transaxle let go (it was an automatic). I'm super happy it didn't crap out during the cross-country trip! THANKS for writing, Steve Magnante
3:14 the Chrysler Power sign above the door. I worked for Roland in the mid 90s at the magazine.
Wow, a fellow Chrysler Power alum. I worked at Chrysler Power's Azusa office in 1992 - 1994 as "Associate Editor" a.k.a. all-round gopher. Roland has passed and we didn't always see eye to eye, but I do thank him for sharing what he knew of the magazine business with me. R.I>P. Roland Osborne. Did you know Rick Thornton and Pete Figueroa? Good guys too - also passed away. That said, Marty Ahlgrim (another good dude) is alive and well. THANKS for writing, Steve Magnante
@@SteveMagnante unfortunately no I didn’t know them. Roland moved the magazine to north central PA (family farm basically) shortly before I started working for him, I’m guessing 1996 or so. I too tended to disagree with him about many things, little over a year in my tenure ended when he felt he could order what church I went to and how often I was to attend. My time there wasn’t all bad, I got to meet/talk with many in the business from small time vendors and restorers to Don Garlits.
I keep thinking about the 62 cop car, Wedge edition. Someday? Cheers 🇨🇦
Never big on "gassers" but it's fun to watch.
Really cool stuff
We’re off to a great start, I’m going to enjoy this, thanks Steve.
How is it that You (Steve) look exactly like you did way back in the day lol
Love this series, Have fun at Barrett Jackson !
If the big wigs at Motor Trend TV aren’t figuring out a way to give you a how to TV series there crazy.
Its going to be sick ! Can’t wait
Even in 07 Steve was freaking awesome
Awesome!!
Oh yeah!
I rememberseeing those in the old hot rod magazines,as a kid you arent looking at how they are built,Great video
Best dodge drag car was a dart “Color Me Gone”. Wish I knew what happened to it.
I love this. Thanks for posting
I have the original dvd Steve!! 😂 I forgot I had it untill my oldest daughter found it in my hobby room/radio shack and said dad I want a DVD player 😂
Nice cat
Great video got a kick out of your 4 legged helpers lol
I hope you are doing better Steve get well soon!
The only thing this video needs is some interjections from Tech , the little round headed cartoon guy from the Chrysler Master Tech bulletins put out in the 50’s and 60’s . Enjoy your work Steve!
Thank you for sharing 👍
Please do more of this! I promise to buy the book. I love content like this.
❤❤❤Get well soon Steve Mags Love Rick and Susan White 🤍🤍🤍
LOL. Bro drank Bud Light...😂😂
Get well Steve!!!
Nice!!!
Awesome job Steve!! My favourite part was your cat making a guest appearance 👍
I like this guy. Very interesting Show.
On todays episode of stuff you didn’t know you needed in your life until you saw it on the internet… 🤣🤣🤣
Appreciate your work Steve!
I've had a 65 fairlane w/428 sitting behind the barn, it never had enough cool, this would be a great way to get a fresh new pizzazz out of that dull old turd.
This looks a lot like the house and property Steve wrote about in a Car Craft article years ago that got invaded by a herd of goats. If I remember correctly they actually did a lot of damage.
Hello, yes that is the Hillbilly Hell Shack, as featured in Car Craft a few years ago. I bought the place in around 2002 and built many a hot rod there. It was purchased by BUDDHIST MONKS (I kid you not) around 2011 when I decided to move back to Massachusetts after 17 years in Los Angeles. The Monks are still there, they have shaved heads, wear orange robes and wear sandals. Quite a difference from the old "Hemi in the kitchen" days when I was there! THANKS for writing, Steve Magnante
@@SteveMagnante Cool. Sounds like the place is in good hands. Hope those robes are Hemi orange!
Cool! I like it so far! Thanks Steve!
No Intro!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!
Man I'd love to had that 56/57 Chevy truck on the roll back.
I have the dvd and the book. Can't get enough. I now have a 65 barracuda, this will happen.
This is AWESOME!!
The young man doing the video sure seems to know his stuff.
When you said "patch work", my first thought was, "use the 12 inch section of floor, etc... as your patch panel", versus creating new panels (work smarter, not harder?). ;-)
Ohhhh, this is gonna be good!
Imagine doing this to a Chevette??? LOL 😆
Looks like he has cats
Damn, waiting for the next episode is gonna drive me nuts! I was totally getting into that.
Melrose Missile ♥
This is going to be great 👍
That's a big cat
love it.
In the planning stages of doing this to my ‘66 Dart Gt. And no, I don’t mind cutting up a GT.
Cheers, Steve! Was this shot at the house where you had the incident' involving sheep?
Looks like the next few days are going to be interesting. How about an update on your hot rod police car when you get back from the auction?
First saw you at Barret Jackson
Somebody push a "like", I don't want to change that 426 number.....
Have fun Steve! Will it be televised?
Omg who is that young man lol
I really appreciate your videos, Steve. Always interesting and educational content. I'm looking forward to seeing the REMcharger in the future.
I'm in the same approximate area as you. If I ever see you at a local event it'd be my honor to buy you a beverage or meal.
Is there a online store where we can purchase things and support you directly?
👍👍
Steve, I bought this video back in the (DVD) and I wondered if you still had all three of the cars ???
Hi Pete M, I still have the Funny Fairmont but it is now powered by a 4.6 DOHC V8 with 8-stack EFI. In the Altered Wheelbase video you'll see it in one of the final episodes as s SIX CYLINDER car. That's because California smog laws prohibit engine swaps in cars newer than 1975. But after I relocated to Massachusetts in 2011, I was OK to swap out the 200 cube six popper for the Cammer. Unfortunately the video was made in 2007, long before I put the V8 in the Funny Fairmont. THANKS again for watching and please stay tuned, the next 5 days will focus on the Altered Wheelbase How To videos. Then I'll get back to Junkyard Crawling. -Steve Magnante
