As a Dodge guy I love the enthusiasm of another Dodge guy. In my youth I built a 318 Poly for the "55 Chevy pickup I had. Got a rep in the local community .It ran nice with a bumpy cam and a Carter.
The hook on the driver's side drip rail is for the low band radio antenna. The long antenna with the big spring was mounted on top of the back fender behind the rear glass.

I'm sure the neighbors thought " NOW WHAT". I got it into the shop and spent all night into the morning going over it. Sleep was not an option when it came home.😁👍
Which '62 did you buy? Did YOU grab that astonishing '62 Plymouth Savoy 2-door post for THREE HUNDRED SIXTEEN BUCKS (Lot Number 98)??? If so, I'm JEALOUS. That car was my other choice in a purchase from the Haynie Estate. I had plans for a nasty primer black, 513 Max Wedge powered street rat with vintage slicks, fender wall headers and no front bumper. I was also "about to" offer FIVE GRAND for that car too. But I realized shipping from Texas to Massachusetts could get as high as $2,500 PER CAR. Did you buy Lot Number 98???
The car David is referring to was a standard bodied 1962 Dodge with some minor modifications not to mention the turbine engine. Among the modifications was a one piece semi blank out Grill and single headlights. There was also a Plymouth Fury version.
What an awesome start for a build that will turn out to be a really cool throwback to another time. Pushing those buttons during a run will be sweet huh!? And if a Police Car was good enough for the Blues Brothers........ 😎
Thanks for the video. My Dad bought a new 1965 base Dodge Coronet. It was a "radio delete" I remember him taking it back to the dealer to have the AM radio installed.
You know you’re a “car guy” when a truck pulls up to your house and drops a non-running vehicle in your driveway with a homely front end, dull paint, a bent hood, four doors that barely creak open, an interior in tatters that may being hiding rusty floorboards, and covered in dust and say, “I just paid a guy in Texas $5000 for this and spent another couple grand to ship it halfway across the country and I’m happy about that!” 😂
What blows my mind is how many people dont have "vision" to them Steve's car is just an old relic destined for the scrapyard and if you tell them your plans they dont get it....till it's done and looks bitchen!
3:39. A blessing. When ever someone is going to do a full repaint on a car you want those hinges to be nice and dry and oil free. Very difficult area to insure that paint sticks. After paint. Then you oil them.
Nice video. My dad's 62 Plymouth Savoy (?) ex police car had the same upholstery in grey and radio delete. It also had no cage or divider and rear interior door handle and window winders were provided. But the fleet hub caps really got to me as I used to polish them when I washed the white car as a kid.
I love how excited Steve is about his latest acquisition. Such a unique platform. I’m a fan of the utilitarian looks of the Police Package and the fact that you intend to stuff a Max Wedge between the fenders. Super cool build, I will be following the series.
I always find it interesting what some people consider a badly rusted car. Coming form the east coast if there is anything left under the door handles your doing good. My 340 Dart is a rust free example, I feel so lucky to have something thats not rotten. The old cop car should make a fairly easy project being so solid. Looking fwd to seeing it come together.

Hi James, yes those 15x6 "fleet wheels" are unique. According to my 1962 Dart Police Vehicle factory sales brochure, they were an extra cost option above the standard 14 inch rims and tires. Those, as you know, take an entirely different type of hub cap that snaps on. These "fleet wheels" take hub caps that clip on over five wire-steel tabs that are riveted to the spiders rather than pressed into the spiders. Its all in the details, right? Hit everything you can with aerosol Tri-Flow and stop any further damage to hinges/latches. You can get it online, or any cycle shop. It's an excellent lube for chains (doesn't attract dirt) and is many times better, longer-lasting lube than WD-40.

You haven't lived until you rip down a nasty headliner from a car that spent the last 40 years in a former chicken coup & get sprinkled with "pounds" of urine soaked insulation & rodent feces not to mention some former now "petrified" tenants of said headliner. Eek, I completely understand your point of view. It is a serious hazard to inhale mystery dust. I plead "over enthusiasm" and also have the added hassle of my glasses FOGGING OVER when I wear a mask. That said, the day after we made these videos, I attacked the interior and eliminated every scrap of debris. Yes, my asthma was in overdrive for the next few days. But now that issue is behind us. I can remember growing up in New Rochelle NY where the PD had a similar car in Black with no markings. Power was a 383 4 barrel with dual exhaust. My cousin was the lucky cop who got to drive the beast. The city used it to patrol certain areas on the outskirts of town, thus the "no markings!" I can also recall getting pulled over by the NY State Police one night on the New England Thruway. The trooper was driving a 67 Chevy Biscayne with a 427/4speed police cruiser. So I can appreciate your Dodge and the police package option. Can't wait for updates and seeing what you're going to put under the hood! Thanks for the videos!

Racing took place on Mamaroneck Ave heading towards White Plains. I believe that stretch of road was actually in the Village of Harrison. Lots of fun time back then.

Push button shift, slant 6, howling rear diff! I was an upgrade from his prior 73 Toyota Corona 3T-C but not on par with his current restored blue 68 RoadRunner and green 69 Charger RT/SE

You mentioned the steering wheel was correct, with a full horn ring, but didn't mention it is a police specific steering wheel. Maybe also some other fleet apps, but definitely not the regular passenger car steering wheel in 62 Dodges.

If I was you the first thing I would do is pull out the back seat. You might find something interesting. In ye olden days crims would sometimes hide things the police had not picked up when arrested. Actually occurred more than you would think. Also applies to old taxis. I used to drive cabs for a living many years ago and if it was a quiet night we would pull out the back seats to see how much loose change we could find.
Mopar police cars always used 57 plymouth steeringwheels until 63 64 ish, i own a 59 dodge coronet former chp car,they also used 57 plymouth steeringwheels and 56 dodge wheel and dog dish caps

The new 1962 B body (midsize) Dart was not based on the same body as the A (compact) body Darts. And it was the biggest car Dodge offered at the beginning of the model year. Poor sales caused them to add to the model line later in the year with a return of the full size Dodge.
In 1962, I’m not sure that you would have had a cage in the back seat. Look on the roof for evidence of a light bar or just as likely a single bubble having been mounted at one time or another. Depending on what department operated that car in Texas, you may have some history to go with it.
You didn’t mention the whip antenna clip on the gutter over the drivers door! Is there the accompanying hole or holes fro the antenna base?? Mike on Cape Cod
It is strange that it has a 57 Plymouth steering wheel, but I do know that police agencies kept this particular wheel for many years because they required a white steering wheel, the last year available for an all white wheel at that time was 57, it's odd to see it in a 62 simply because the steering shaft on a standard 62 is 5/8 whereas the 57 is a 3/4

I remember seeing one of those 427/ 4 speed trooper cars in Port Chester NY one Saturday. Parked in front of the Korvettes store on US Rt 1

I noticed the 57 Plymouth steering wheel . I know the CHP used those on later cars . I didn't think these were used as late as 1962.

I had the same question. This car will clearly require mountains of work, but would love to live vicariously and watch it!
You mentioned the steering wheel was correct, with a full horn ring, but didn't mention it is a police specific steering wheel. Maybe also some other fleet apps, but definitely not the regular passenger car steering wheel in 62 Dodges.
The 62 I had back in the 90s had a 225 super 6 in it and had 28.000 miles on it when I restored it. I wish that I still had it today.
That’s a base ‘57 Plymouth steering wheel. What you would find in a plaza.
The trade name for that particular heavy vinyl seat material is "Puke-N-Wipe."

I'm surprised you didn't point out the hold down clip for the 102 inch police whip antenna above the driver's door. Original police equipment.

If I was you the first thing I would do is pull out the back seat. You might find something interesting. In ye olden days crims would sometimes hide things the police had not picked up when arrested. Actually occurred more than you would think. Also applies to old taxis. I used to drive cabs for a living many years ago and if it was a quiet night we would pull out the back seats to see how much loose change we could find.
Sometimes the factory hid the build sheet under the back seat. Those are the Holy Grail of information on the car.

Mopar police cars always used 57 plymouth steeringwheels until 63 64 ish, i own a 59 dodge coronet former chp car,they also used 57 plymouth steeringwheels and 56 dodge wheel and dog dish caps
Our old 57 Plymouth Savoy had the same steering wheel. Non-Power.

Oh SH!T. I busted out laughing on that one! Thank's for that. 😁. That is a pretty neat looking steering wheel. I am kind of surprised that' Darts were ever used as a police car. I always thought that cop cars were the big full size models. Galaxies and Fury's and whatnot. Well anyways, I'm subscribed and looking forward to what this car will become.😝
The new 1962 B body (midsize) Dart was not based on the same body as the A (compact) body Darts. And it was the biggest car Dodge offered at the beginning of the model year. Poor sales caused them to add to the model line later in the year with a return of the full size Dodge.
In 1962, I’m not sure that you would have had a cage in the back seat. Look on the roof for evidence of a light bar or just as likely a single bubble having been mounted at one time or another. Depending on what department operated that car in Texas, you may have some history to go with it.
You didn’t mention the whip antenna clip on the gutter over the drivers door! Is there the accompanying hole or holes fro the antenna base??

It is strange that it has a 57 Plymouth steering wheel, but I do know that police agencies kept this particular wheel for many years because they required a white steering wheel, the last year available for an all white wheel at that time was 57, it's odd to see it in a 62 simply because the steering shaft on a standard 62 is 5/8 whereas the 57 is a 3/4
