Soooo glad Steve has his own channel now
Two legend on one episode thanks Steve ....cheers from Canada
I love his show.....this guy is a National Treasure.....
I love going to the junkyard and feeling mesmerized by these old cars.
I own a 1/16th scale model of the ’54 Indy Pace Car in yellow with the original decals. It’d be cool to see this one in it’s former glory.
That is quite the car for 1954. I hope it gets restored .Thanks for posting.
Somebody needs to get that car out of the rain and in a shed and restore it
Would love to be the someone to restore this survivor, what's amazing is that it setting in a junk yard... :-(
...and tub it, drop in a big block Chevy and Turbo 400....
Scooter George naw keep the hemi
You have to keep the drive train that is a must. That engine begs to be detailed and tweaked back to life. And just rebuild it and fix all the body rot. Finding a interior shouldn’t be to hard. I think the top bows where still there also. The push button trans was a blast right out of the space age.
You missed the wink symbol ; ) I have to remind myself that sarcasm in the printed word is not always understood. BB Chevy and tubbed. Obviously this is no ordinary '54 convertible and must be restored.
That car is so beautiful, it would be worth every penny to restore.
Agreed!
Agreed with you!
In the late 70's a friend bought a 1936 Chev 4 dr saloon which still had cable operated brakes....
In time he needed a windscreen wiper motor...which was vacuum operated.
We went to the nearly closed down junkyard at the edge of this small town and asked if they had one..and were told that next week the crusher comes and all of these 20's, 30's 40's and 50's bodies are going in it.
We searched about 5 vehicles from the 30's and found nothing.
The next vehicle was a sorry looking mess....but I lifted the scrap of sodden carpet where the front seat would have been and a pristine wiper motor sat there.......
We went to the counter..how much...take it, glad you found it..see ya.
That whole wrecking yard is full of GOLD , the red great looking old cars and trucks all over that yard.
GREAT VIDEO STEVE!!! YES THAT DODGE SHOULD BE RESTORED AND IN AUSEUM FOR EVERYONE TO SEE AND ENJOY!!!! GREAT VIDEO AND EDUCATION. THANKS FOR SHARING!!! I LEARNED SO MUCH!!!
That's beautiful. I've got a 1950 Dodge Coronet. 4 door. Engine and transmission complete. Needs a lot of work. Beautiful cars....
Watching any old video with Steve Magnante.❤
The emblems/crests are so neat. Truly an amazing car.
Good vibes Steve!
Whoa! Great find. Love this stuff….real car guys salivate for this. Thank you for dealing with the rain to bring us cool content.
Steve has shared so much trivia with all of Us . He is a Treasure Trove of information . Get Well Steve . We miss you Sir !
Love you show Sir. Thanks for the history lessons on cars. My dad knew a lot but he’s no longer here so thanks seriously
I so love this show...please keep 'em coming!
This show is possibly the most interesting and entertaining car shows ever.
10000% better than the "soap opera" car shows.
This show should never have been cancelled. Steve is a wealth of information, a person of passion for the automotive worrld. Sorry MT, you lost out.
I luv treasure hunting and I luv scrap yards. You never know what you're gonna find!
Damnit! I thought it was going to be Steve Dulcich!
Me too. This guy sucks!!. The Real Steve would've had this car running within hrs in the rain.
I bought a hemi from a junkyard in the late 60's.. I asked him how much he wanted for the hemi.. He started at 250 bucks.. the next time I went he dropped the price to 125.. the next time it was down to 75, which I didn't have.. Each time we visited the junkyard, I always asked and finally he said, how much money do you have in your pocket? I said 8 dollars.. He said, SOLD.. Now I had another problem , how was I going to get this monster home.. He had a deuce and a half and he delivered to my house for another 8 dollars.. My mom pitched a fit.. Morale of the story, be careful about what you want, you just might get it... He even threw in the transmission...
You owe it all to your Superior bargaining skills! Sounds like the story of the guy that got the bargain on the 2 for 1 pink elephants
The first Dodge muscle car was the 1956 Dodge's with the D-500 option. In fact the D-500 was the fastest American production car in 1956. The best looking 56 Dodge was the Custom Royal Lancer trim level. I believe the race cars were base Coronet 2 door post sedans
Our local Dodge/Chrysler dealer (Bitzer Motors, Collinsville, IL) had one of these in stock new. My brother worked there after school and he put the full court press on my dad to trade our 53 sedan in for it. Dad wasn't having it though. It was fun siting back and watching them argue.
Crazy awesome find, man.
Boy what a sad ending for that car! It should be restored and in a museum!😥
On the road!!
I seriously doubt that car was just left there after the episode aired. I'm also sure the junkyard owner knows what it's worth and has probably sold it to a Mopar enthusiast by now. It most definitely didn't go to the crusher!
the car location is wildcat mopar parts in boring oregon, and yes they know what things are worth
Dude there is NOTHING there within eyeshot of that vid that's destined for the crusher. So, like really? Come on dude. You can't be that oblivious. There are many gems in that yard and trust me, they know what the stuff is. As does most everyotherbody on the planet that doesn't sit down to pee.
That car had a decal AAA of Washington state, it got around the country
@@earnierosenow9834 Is Boring Oregon where that episode was filmed?
@@jeffclark2725 I'm not sure
real question is why is she still sitting in that yard amongst all those mere peasants?
It's still sitting there because the owner of the yard probably knows what it is and probably wants a pile of money for it. Then again, if I owned something like this, I'd at least make the attempt to get it out of the weather to slow its deterioration. Maybe the owner figures it's too far gone to be worth saving now?
Because they want mega cash for it and probably bought it for $50 .
I bet it still has good parts on it.
The most important Dodge ever....
They found Al Bundy's Dodge?
well that was a real treat, thanks
Love the restored version.
Love the Junkyard crawl
Steve,
I love your show.
My suggestion is for MotorTrend to save and build some of the cars you have found, mentioned and featured on your show.
Build them back as rate originals or tribute as cars.
The MotorTrend fanbase is a ready made marketplace of willing customers for what could be produced be the vast talent at MotorTrend.
OMG!
Awesome find.
I've been looking for a Red Ram Hemi engine to rebuild for a long time now.
My dad had a 1954 Belvedere, convertible, no 500 though. Loved that car.
Pretty sure thats at Wildcat Auto Wrecking yard off Hwy 26 near Welches Oregon. Bought a lot of molar parts there over the years.
I had the ‘53 convertible with the same eng/trans. My first car, given to me by a neighbor who just wanted it out of his barn. Sweet little hemi!
GREAT SHOW STEVE LOVE YOUR STYLE
Somebody please save this car
Wow! That truly is Junk yard Gold
Ohh i like that 1946 chevy truck next to the Dodge. my grandfather has two of dodges in his barn back home in new mexico nice cars....
So was it saved?
"Nicks Garage" in Canada just took one in for restoration work.
Auggies1956. Thanks for posting it on this channel.
Where is it today, 2 years later?
Awesome car!
Wow, simply wow!
Great looking Classic.
Built back in the day when all cars looked very cool. And you can tell every model apart because they weren't built to look like each other.
great find.
they are very nice on the roads .... great oldies but goodies cars
Jay Leno needs this thing to save er!
Someone call Jay
@James Wilson I think Jay has one!
Nice history I enjoyed it.
Dodge was quite a great car in the 50s. Solid, smooth ride.
Very informative thx
start of a legend
I think my great uncle had one of those. He owned the local Dodge-Plymouth dealer and used to drive the pace car at Floyd Motor Speedway.
Yes , Leno would restore it to concours . This car needs to be saved
So find someone to restore it. That would be a fantastic build.
Now that's a nice car id definitely put the cash into because the aluminum intake became populer and the style look's supreme
So Rare to find this ; )
And it starts to rain. They are rotting away in that yard and it's full of nice stuff.
About 10 years ago I saw 2 of these cars in the same day in the same zip code just outside of Philadelphia pa. Yes they were 2 different cars because one had a dented bumper.
as soon as I saw the trees and rust I knew this had to be in the Pacific Northwest
We had a 55 with that hemi. It had dual points as well. It was one tough engine. It survived me and my brothers teenage years in an area with no cops.
This `54 appears quite solid, and very worthy of a frame-off resto. There simply aren't enough of the 701 Pace car replicas left today; I'd jump on this one if I could. One rare car.
Had a 54 vert many years ago, not a 500 but a Coronet Red Ram 2BBL. Put about 40# of bondo on it & then sold it!
I sure hope Steve bought it and worked his magic on it.
What happened to this car? Is it still there? Was it saved or what? The Motor Trend Channel should update this video to let us know what happened to this car.
Awesome!
Another post here. How about at the end of the episode, can you post the info about possibly purchasing any of the vechicles maybe if a clean title and apx asking price, or if parts only. Was really interested in the episode with the mustangs.
Good to see Steve Magnante (Magneto) again. I wonder if he still has the altered wheelbase Fairmont drag car...
Was just watching Nick's garage CZcams channel and he has that very same car just came in his garage to be restored, the one he restoring is in a little better condition than the one that you showed.😎
waltman66. Yes, it is in better shape, will be restored in the future. Thanks for watching "Nick's Garage".
Steve is the best!
Love it that is one cool car
Saw a fully restored one 2 days after I saw this post! Unreal and its for sale 40K.....Lake Havasu City Az.
Solid gold good pic !!!
Always have enjoyed junk yard romps , like your show and those like it . Watched several times , do you always fail to mention what yard your visiting ? Would really like to know where in Oregon? you shot this 54 Chrysler 500 Convertable Pace Car ? Thank Dan
I had a 53 coronet that i think had a 292 Hemi in it. Also had the gyromatic in it so you could use it as a standard or automatic.
Surprising that a car that rare and potentially valuable is left out to rot in the rain. You'd think they'd store a gem like that in a shed.
Love this show!! Steve keep it up.
Steve keep uploaded videos please ! ! !
A high school chum drove his family’s cherry early ‘50s woody wagon to school. It had - he said - a 318 hemi. IDK but it had the same aluminum intake manifold and a two barrel. I’m glad to see that I was not disremembering what I saw 55 years ago. He said Chrysler wanted to buy it back.
Mark Linder As I said, that’s what he said. But the engine was kept clean and the aluminum intake manifold almost gleamed. They owned a grocery delivery business with a maintenance staff. I imagine they had their techs keep it clean.
I want to go to that junk yard.
Very cool Dodge✌🚘
That has got to be at Wildcat Auto Wrecking, they have only MoPar, and are great!
That place looks more like a car meet but everyone is afraid of getting went
Nice vid
First generation HEMIS are getting few and far between. My wife's dad bought a 53 Dodge Coronet 241 red ram. Has a little over 60.000. one hundred percent original.
The mechanic that I go to for help with stuff I don’t have tools/time/knowledge enough to do myself has a ‘55 Coronet 4-door, I believe it was an original Hemi car, but one of the small ones. It now has a 392 Hemi from an old industrial pump (rebuilt as a mild performance motor) and a later A833 4-speed. It’s genuinely pretty quick, and sounds just AMAZING. Early Hemis are right up there with the wild pre-‘71 big-block Mopars, LS7s, Boss 302s and flathead Fords in the sound department. He did it pretty period, with like cast headers (tubular, but cast, maybe Edelbrock or Offenhouser?), glasspacks, and no crossover. Super-cool car.
Yes they are getting rare I had a couple of them but am down to 1 now in a 53 Chrysler New Yorker that I would like to restore some day
Save it. Would be a great Motor Trend video
That truck setting next to that dodge is a better find in my opinion!
They are always looking at cars but ignore trucks.
Very nice
Can you put the show in the title, maybe in brackets
Million dollar car just rotting away I’m shedding a tear right now.
A buddy of mine has a dodge school bus with the motor that is the same as the hemi, but not so,the top end! I guess its about a 55. He uses the bus as a shed. He gave me the steering wheel for my dump truck. I had busted the plastic? off of mine and welded the spokes twice, I truly wore it out! No power steering on a hard working d-500 rock bed truck.
Great find! Anybody have an update on Steve? I'm really missing my Junkyard Crawl, (and Katy).
The powder blue 1972 Challenger is cool.
Wow, Steveo I believe you meant to say the color is internationally known as Indy Car Coward Yellow!
In my opinion there is two vehicles that can be painted yellow one being a 5 window model A coupe, and if I’m not mistaken the following vehicle might be near and dear to your heart that being one yellow blown 57 Chevy that almost whooped the Almond eye guys cobra had it not blown a radiator hose or something coolant related when “Tony Diaz” grabbed second gear!!
To be honest, I thought it was Grease lighting! Lol thanks for the movie memories Steveo!!
Now only to get rid of the grease lighting song out of my head!! Lol
Someone needs to get that car road ready and just drive it around the way it is..
Very good
Will you please tell me we’re in Oregon thank you
It would cost less to build a time travel device and travel to 1955 than it would be to restore that automobile.
