As a kid many years ago, I checked out your book from the local public library and read it. This, and early 2000s issues of Hot Rod really influenced my interest in cars. Someday, I'll build something like this
Interesting tip for you, Body filler/Bondo/Bog in powdered form when cutting or grinding will "Pop" sometimes when hit with sparks :-) Teaching my kids to use power tools years ago working on a Mini and using a cup wire wheel to clean up the roof line to cut it was the first time I saw it and the Pops were more bangs which didnt bother the kids because they had ear and eye protection at the time but it sure as heck made me jump lol Anything aerosolised with intro of sparks will do this and Bondo is fairly spectacular :-) Loving this series!
I also still do model car kits. It always makes me scratch my head when I see a fully assembled model car unpainted. I really dig the half 'n half car. Had I been one of the judges, I'd have put it over.
Great vid Steve and I'll be watching Barrett-Jackson as usual. That half and half build is next level. Love the model cars as a builder myself I have many 'broken' kits. I would buy a kit just to get a specific piece(s) such as rims or engines or I needed another body for a chopped and channel build. My builds were mostly customs or sleepers. Ex: 54 F100 Jaguar independent rear-end 4spd and that SOHC 427 and drag slicks stuffed in the fender with the factory hubcaps all neatly packaged as local parts delivery truck with real wooden slats above the stock bed with spare tire carrier on the fender and a real wooden bed floor made from popsicle sticks cut down and plastic ink cartridges for exhaust pipes that dumped out in front of the rear tires.Certain pens had larger than nomal ink cartridges to give that 4" exhaust look or cut up old antennas and shaped to give a build a chrome exhaust tip. I would even take the time to paint in details in the dashboard, instrument cluster and interior panels. I didn't have an allowance but collected returnable bottles and sold candy at school to make the $ i needed The F100 was one of my 1st attempts at making my own designs. I had this room that was sort of a pantry room that I used as my 'shop' covered in paint samples wire hangers and some homemade rotisserie I made in shop class. A small radio playing what is now classic rock. So with the door closed and no ventilation along with the paint and model car glue of the day taking up air space. I would have many 'spiritual experiences' during this time. As a GenX, the forgotten ones, I had no idea what was happening and had no one to tell me about the 'harmful effects' and the loss of brain cells as a result! Maybe why some car guys are a little out there LOL. Namaste Steve 🙏🏼
Steve , your models are great and especially the half strip half stock model , it's hard to believe the judges didn't like it , but that's there problem . Thanks as usual .
I bought four jackstands that have a bottle jack built in which are great for fine tuning lift heights. Another plus is they have a flat plate welded on the base so they won't sink into hot asphalt or other soft areas. As my driveway is sloped I use a magnetic level and cedar shingles to get them level. Tractor Supply and other stores sell them and I highly recommend them for this kind of work for people on a budget. Hope that helps.
Great collection of some cool funny cars models Steve! Nicely done! I also still have most of my models I built during the late 70s and 80s! Of course some needs some serious repairs!😂but i would never part with them! Looking forward to seeing more on the funny car build!👌😎👍
Cool as hell steve.....your work on the plastic muscle is awsome.....i work.with plastic too, and.steel...i build tractor trailers cars...and.planes during.the winter months.....but summer being.here im working.on my full scale 77 D100 shorty......great video.....thank you
An update maybe? With the new Miller welders now, they are more "first time" user friendly BUT more expensive than the price of 25 years ago. About 2k for a basic MIG welder.
Man I love my old 130 I got around 98 when I moved in my first house. Still got it and use it often and works great. It was around 700$ with a tank and some consumables. One of my best tool purchases I've made. Miller welder, sitting on a Lincoln cart😁 Reason is the plasma cutter is below it. All in one rig, kinda sorta.
I like how he talks about the plasma cutter, oxy/acet, and sawzall, but what does he use, deathwheel! But with a safety guard in place? Wtf is that all about? lol
Thats wierd .In Australia we usually always keep the angle grinder guard on the tool, but Americans seem to generally take them off.Damm they sting when contacting flesh.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(!!!
Wow! That "hal-n-half" car took some skills to build, I bet. Nicely done.
Love the old Valiant in the garage behind him. Probably the coolest "ugly" car ever made!

I’m 60 now and you inspired me to get out (next winter) my models still in the boxes since my boys were young about 20 years ago!
So cool to see this Steve! Love the altered models you build with even the launch twist! Looks real!

Good to see you back on Barret Jackson. For me, you made the show worth watching.
That half & half Mopar and Chevelle are off the chain. VERY NICE!
Man those model cars are unreal, especially for being homemade in the 70's
The 1/2 & 1/2 model is great!

If the 24 hrs of lemons ever expands to a drag weekend.....Im thinking a rear drive altered wheelbase 1980s chrylser K car could be a winner.....😉👍

Before you mentioned it I thought this could be applied to any model kit as well.Thanx.
I remember a build series in HOT ROD too.
How funny. When I first saw that gentleman in the green jacket, he was so still I thought it was a mannequin 😃
THIS IS SOOOOOOOOO FUNNY!
Dude I love the model kits especially the johan stuff!
meanwhile you can hear the saw buzzing in the background lol
I wish I still had my model cars, none were as cool as yours.
This guy kinda reminds me of that Allan Sherman guy who used to put amusing lyrics to classical music
