The content is so well structured and you wrote down the subject headings into a list right under the video and provided a web page like experience. Great job, buddy. Chris, you have the right attitude and mindset of an ideal expat in the Philippines. You adapted to the culture quickly without judgment or complaints. There's a lot of things that can be extremely difficult for an expat to adjust to or never get over (heat, traffic, slow pace, poverty, dishonesty/scams to name a few). Very simply, any of these can be deal breakers. After all the Philippines ain't gonna change for you. You have to ask yourself if you're willing to change and adapt to thrive here.

    I agree Chris, this was a great video full of information. I was coming to Cebu in feb, but had to realize my dream to be able to live by myself again and enjoy life to the fullest in a country full of interesting places to see, has come to an end. I've been trying to pay off my bills and get a nest egg to have for emergencies, but I've exhausted my efforts and came up short. I still have one $400 a month debt I can't pay off, and only have $6k savings left. So I've had to realize that not everyone can get the brass ring. Some of us just have to sit on the sidelines and watch the game. My Filipina daughter in-law even told me recently that I could go there, but not to stay. She didn't think it would be wise. Being I'll be 74 next month and in good physical shape, my son and Filipina daughter in-law want me to stay living with them and my grandchildren (5). So, in some respects, I'm living the dream, just not by myself. So Chris, live the dream for both of us. I'll continue watching your vlogs, even though I feel somewhat sad I can't be there, but I applaud you for doing what you did with your life. Jho is a very lucky Filipina.

    Sounds like a positive approach to a new life over there. Many of us in the US certainly aren't used to being able to really 'relax' and are wired for a faster paced way of living. A seemingly common treadmill type of life & often no conscience awareness of it ? -- I'm old and really desire a comfortable peaceful cheap and frugal relaxed place to spend the rest of my days. Around friendly local people and some expats who are happy for the same. A little adventure & a little travel for new experiences and for food I never had before. --?-- Perhaps just enjoy a stress free life as much as possible. -- I will be aiming for the Tagaytay area for the more comfortable temps. @ 2000 feet elevation. Or Valencia near Dumaguete is said to also be cooler.

When flipping camera to view backside while walking flip your glasses around lol. Friendly content suggestion ie: " mindset " of how we need to adapt a calmer more patience way of thinking/dealing with things vs the critical way we westerners have become. Possible 30m video for that one. Anyway keep them rolling & be safe.

    Good vlog 👍🏽 So two month adjustment makes sense. When did you start getting more carefree and meeting others (acquaintances/friends) including expats or locals. I can see loneliness kicking in after 2 months, especially if you're not that sociable or outgoing. It took me damn near 5 days to totally recover from jetlag/time diff when I went to Japan a few years back. I was the walking dead. Man, talk about a long flight! As much as the Airbnb option makes sense, it however is not ideal while shopping around and deciding on a long-term accommodation. You can't just simply extend your Airbnb stay beyond the initial booking as those dates may already be booked by other guests. Moving out to yet another temporary place would then become necessary which is going to be a PITA. In this situation, a hotel would be more practical wherein extending your stay indefinitely would not be an issue. Better yet, getting a month-to-month rental on a unit before arriving would be the best-case scenario. This way, if the unit is ideal for long-term stay, all one has to do is sign a long-term lease and not have to go through the process of moving out. However, I don't know if this would be possible and if it is, I wonder if it could be arranged reliably (guaranteed access or entry) and securely (deposit, rent, etc.) before arriving.
    BTW, I noticed a stitch-line artifact across the left side of the frame when the X3 was in front of you; it doesn't seem to occur while the cam was behind you. Interesting.

    • @CarefreeChris
      @CarefreeChris  Před 7 měsíci

      Airbnb for a month should be plenty of time. I just needed a couple of weeks really. One to adjust and another to secure a place. If you need more time can always find another or a hotel but it’s unlikely you will. Might even keep the Airbnb:)

    Yeah this was a pretty good video. It depicts the Philippines in a true sense. You see the streets are full of trash and dogs and traffic. No sidewalks and plenty of motorcycles
    Bugs like flies and especially ants are all around and in every house. So like he said, it's really challenging and a big culture shock from the west. The shit takes time to get used to, that's for sure. Buena suerta. Also remember, you are not a citizen of the country so in essence you have no rights so everything is at your peril. And the dating thing doesn't apply to me because I'm married.

    The number one piece of advice I give any prospective expat is to visit first. The philippines is not for everybody that's for sure. Second piece of advice is if you're not yet of retirement age and can't swing a passive income, you're going to be in for a world of hurt trying to make money in the philippines. So have your ducks in order first have your finances in order and then it'll be much better. That's obviously what you did, and that's probably the main source of your happiness. Think of how the philippines would be if you were struggling to try and hustle and make money there? Then all of a sudden, the United States doesn't seem so bad. I can't tell you how many Western guys ive talked to who are in their 30S and 40s and think they can just up and leave and move to the Philippines and work and make the same money they did in the West. Lol. I just shake my head and face palm at the same time.
