  • Cadillac’s car lineup has been reduced to 2 all-new models: the compact-sized CT4 which I drove earlier this year and this...the midsize CT5; both available in mid-performance models Cadillac refers to as V-Series.
    MSRP as-tested: $58,305

    Mmm, I've been waiting for this review. Appreciate you taking the time to dig into the downsides of this car. I live in the negative so the legit critiques resonate. But I gotta say, it's one of the few cars not named Stinger or Arteon that I'm very interested in driving. The price is silly, but that high MSRP won't be what these sell for. Cadillac needs to adopt the Acura and Hyundai pricing models in the old Greek phrase - Know Thyself. $58k says they're about $10k away from being self aware. Sorry for the Greek/Skynet mixed metaphor.

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 Před 3 lety +4

      Cadillac doesn’t need to adopt neither Acura nor Hyundai’s pricing models because they are neither of those brands. There is a prestige that you get with Cadillac which you won’t find with Acura or Hyundai. Then there’s the performance, technology, and styling of the Cadillac that you’re paying a premium for as well.

    Am I the only one that feels like Cadillac is constantly in a “transition” phase? Like how long until we’re reading articles on auto websites about how Caddy is “having trouble with sales” and “is re-evaluating their strategy.”
    I honestly think that until GM stop letting the shareholders dictate the company for short term profit and actually come up with a long term (yes, costly) plan for Cadillac, then Genesis might be posed to become what Cadillac was in the 1980s. Just chasing the German big 3 buyer base isn’t a good enough strategy anymore in 2020. Do a Tesla, do a Genesis and carve out your own identity.
    And BUILD THE GOD DAMN ESCALA CONCEPT AS IS!!

    Great job as usual Steve. The one major issue I have design wise is that horrifying black plastic fake rear window. It makes the side profile look like a giant Chevy Cruze. I also think the rear isn't a strong suit, it's kind of doughy and indistinct compared to previous designs. This "not quite 3, not quite 5" idea is something that they tried with the CTS from the very beginning, and I'm not sure why they've gone back to it as it has never really worked. Yes it costs less than a 5 or E, but it delivers nothing *CLOSE* to what those cars do in terms of interior design and luxury features. Pay less, get less doesn't make something a bargain. It's a bit more competitive with the 3 and C, but then it's not going to be able to drive as well as an M340i or C43 because it's bigger and heavier.
    I think the new Genesis G80 has gotten right what Cadillac continues to get wrong. They sacrifice a few features and customization options to keep the price down, but they don't have to make any excuses about a bunch of low grade plastics like this car does.
