Is Cadillac offering the best luxury/sport sedan today? The CT5 V-Series is a joy to toss into a tight turn and costs thousands of dollars less than its German competition. It may not have the raw horsepower of the late great CTS V, but for real world romps on empty country roads, this new model has the finesse needed for a great time. Tom Voelk checks out a well equipped CT5 V in Shadow Metallic and asks the question- does this car need any options at all?

Great review, Tom. Yours was one of the reviews that encouraged me to include this car among the German marques on my list and last October I took delivery of a 2023 CT5-V (Black on Sedona Sauvage). Mine is RWD and was parked for the winter (I'm in Canada) and I absolutely LOVE how tossable this car is for its weight/size. It is both refined and fun.

One of the reasons why I love this car is the interior. It would be one of the biggest selling points for me and one of the reasons why I would go to the trouble to import it to Europe. Mercedes, Audi and even BMW to some extent have gone crazy these days and are putting screens on every inch of the dashboard. I have to say that the analogue gauges in this bring me a sense of comfort and look very attractive.

Totally with you on 'all functions on touchscreen' craze so many manufacturers are going with these days. What happens with the screen(s) fail? How are you going to operate the car then? Buttons, knobs, switches and controllers are tactile, easier and safer to operate. So at least for those often used functions, a few short-cut buttons are definitely welcome as far as I'm concerned. Oh and, the CT5 looks like a hell of a car. Shame we don't get it in Europe!

GM management needs to recognize that beautiful, high quality interiors sell cars, especially in the luxury segment. Too often the bean counters at GM get in the way. The instrument panel in this Cadillac looks too much like that of a Chevrolet. Cadillac badly needs its own high quality switches, not shared with any other GM product.

Every car has elements that are purely put on for styling. Just think of it that way. It's all arbitrary anyway, real or fake is not relevant in the end, as every element of the design is some decision to appear a certain way. If we lambast every nonfunctional vent and crease that isn't for aero, etc., then we miss the forest for the trees.

The acceleration on these cars is close to what super cars were doing 10 to 15 years ago. The supercharged V8s are excellent but overkill.None of the hellcats or ZL1 in the street tire division were able to put the power down at the drag.I have vids of my stinger and I was able to beat 500 plus HP american cars. This car is just a hair slower then my Stinger--plus with AWD the power can be put down in almost every condition.I do agree with others they should have used the bigger v6 and this should have low to mid 400 HP--that way it can at least do sub 13 sec quarter miles which has become the standard in the class. The new AWD systems are fantastic and after owning my first modern one in my stinger--i will always spring for AWD--it makes the car much much better.

I'd like to do a test drive of that. Would be nice if the marketplace integrated with something like doordash to give you a better selection. Not sure how many people are dying to order from those 3 listed... Definitely not myself

In the not-too-distant future (which will very closely resemble the movie 'Idiocracy'), the top of the line Caddy will be called the 'CT10-MILLION XXX-Series 400-GAZILLION' (aka the 'Cimarron II').

I would be intrigued to see this car as a hatchback like the Kia Stinger or Audi A5

I agree, making it into a sportback would have allowed the cargo capacity to be more competitive in its market. Also if I remember correctly the CT5 has around 2 more inches or rear legroom than the BMW 3 series. If they would have reduced that by around 2 inches and increased the cargo capacity it would have been welcoming as well. Hell do both and it could probably be class leading in terms of cargo capacity if not matching the stinger.

Its interesting how the upscale American cars like Caddies and Buick styling looks more and more like a premium japanese car.

My granddaughter has a Chevrolet I believe it is a 2017 or 2019 as she had a blowout on the highway when she found out that she did not have a spare tire I any kind of tools to change tires if she was able to locate one. Fortunately she had AAA and they were able to tow her car to a repair shop and I swore I would never buy a car without a spare tire and tools. So my one question to you even though I’m enjoying your video does the Cadillac have a spare tire? Before I even consider the purchase of one that’s the first thing I need to know. The part they supply with a little spare tire is only good for if you have a slow leak they never consider the fact that when you have a blowout you need to put a tire and rim on. Looking forward to your response. Can you order this car with a spare tire?
