      And I had some other thoughts.
      Getting married to someone of way way higher standing (recall she was fairly rich before the step family walked in) basically "forced" Cinderella to move in with him because a lot of the time, a guy's wife will move in with him.
      The exception would be if Cinderella were richer then him, then they probably would've moved into her family house (with the evil step family) unless someone between Cinderella's family or her husband's puts in the money to buy or build a new house.
      Or if Cinderella and her fiance were willing/convinced to start from scratch.

So since she was not a golddigger, or immorally showed any non perfectly polite feminin traits, she got the prince.... And no, I do blame her or anyone in her position, I blame the story for it's framing and the messed up moral and actually victim blamy, like if you do not get magically rescued by a prince, it's your fault, for you where not perfectly obidient enough and therefor have not earned it....

    I was asked on a test in bible study to say who my godparent was and how they fulfilled their role for me growing up. I stated that I did not have one and got my answer marked wrong.
    I vividly remember the teacher getting mad because I was somehow supposed to assume without being told (at only 8 years old) that I was expected to lie so that I could show that I understood the question. He tried to explain that he didn't know what his father looked like because he'd never met him a bunch of different ways. After a particularly mean reply from the teacher telling him to just ask his mom, he shouted "I CAN'T!!! SHE DOESN'T KNOW EITHER!!!!!". Yeah, I didn't make the connection about what that probably meant till adulthood, my kid brain just assumed she was blind or something. 3:50 Oo I have a fun malicious compliance story for this actually. So I was adopted and my computer science teacher decided it would be fun to do an ancestry project. Well I’m adopted and only knew my mother up until I was 4. So it’s not like I ever asked her questions like this. The assignment wanted our parents, grandparents, any hereditary diseases, and great grandparents. Basically as far back as you could go. I raised my hand in class and asked if you had to be blood related. She said yes. So I got my caregiver to help me dig out all of my paperwork and family photos. What I didn’t mention is she wanted what our parents did for a living. So I googled them both and put it in. My father was in prison for larceny and grand theft auto and my mother was unfindable. I had the saddest project in the room. When I finished my presentation I looked back at my teacher who was crying. She told me I could sit down. I made an B- because my mother had no information besides her name, age, and physical traits.

    This story will appear to be very random at first but bear with me:
    I'm a pregnant lady. Recently, an OBGYN tried to use a speculum to look inside of my vagina, and it wasn't the right size. This is how I learned that they are actually different size of speculums, and when I said "... They are different sizes of these?! Huh, that makes sense when you think about it, I didn't know that!" she explained to me that yes, they were different sizes, because some women are naturally smaller, bigger, have had children or (this is the part related to the video) that some pregnant women that come for a check up are even virgins, physically speaking, because they're lesbians who have been artificially inseminated with a device that's far smaller than a penis. So, depending on your definition of virginity, IT IS possible to be a mom who's a virgin. For example: if you're asexual and have been artificially inseminated. The more you know!

    Fun Fact: The "giant cucumber" in that photo is actually an under ripe watermelon. That's what watermelons look like on the inside when you pick them before they're fully ripened. The flesh gradually turns redder starting from the center and moving outwards. If you look at the size of the gourd as the father is carrying it, it's somewhat small compared to a store bought watermelon, because it was not allowed to mature. It can be quite hard to tell when exactly a watermelon is ripe if you've never grown them before, and this process can take a long time, so you need to have enough weeks in your growing season. A watermelon is ripe when it develops a yellow patch on its underside, and the nearby tendrils on the vine start to wilt.
    Watermelons and cucumbers are both part of the Cucurbitaceae family though, and the rind of a watermelon is edible and can be used the same exact way as cucumbers. You can make pickles out of them, which are pretty good.

    The Mulan one was not a good example because she nearly got executed the second they found out she's not a man, that's because at the era where that story takes place it was bad luck and illegal to have a woman soldier so from their perspective she's literally sabotaging their chance of winning by angering the spirits.
    Edit: C'mon guys, if you're gonna make an argument against me at least make it make sense or worthwhile, please?
    Don't say "It's a fictional movie so there's no reason to care about the laws/beliefs" because the entire reason Hugo the dragon is there is because he's supposed to keep her identity a secret BECAUSE they would kill her, they straight up were about to kill her right after she seemingly ended the war and killed Kan (as far as they could tell).
    And don't say "You just don't understand jokes/parody" because a parody or joke trying to laugh at the absurdity of something can only be funny if the joke actually makes sense in the given context, saying "They won't care she's a girl because the dragon is a bigger deal" is not a good argument when they literally established at the start that they will kill her on the spot if she got caught and when she did she was actually about to be killed, and its something that took inspiration from REAL LIFE.
    Make good arguments... Please, it's getting annoying...

      Mulan is a price of fiction loosely based on a piece of fiction. While there were certainly periods of Chinese history where that was true, “The Ballad of Mulan” (upon which Mulan is based) existed to make the point that duty to one’s country was more important than gender or sex. Even if that weren’t the case, Mulan the Disney movie is Chinese flavoured American fiction. There is no “era” with actual laws or people with real beliefs that have to be represented for historical accuracy.

Because that's literally the first thing that went into play the second she got caught. Our model of "you ovulate one egg once per month/cycle" is.... not entirely accurate, and pregnancy doesn't always send the message to not release the next egg. It is incredibly rare because you need a situation in which the first pregnancy did not stop the next ovulation from happening, and the chance increases if you are a "multiple ovulator" (more than one at a time or more than one per cycle), but it has occurred.
      Oh yeah edit to add: Multiple ovulation is how fraternal (non identical) twins occur, when two eggs are released at once (at the same time), so it's not that uncommon that one egg once per cycle isn't accurate.

    So I had to start every year with a presentation that went like "I spent my vacation at home. we played a lot of board games. that's it".
    Afterwards a lot of teachers asked questions like "Didn't you go to another country?" no. "Surely you atleast went to a theme park or something?" no sir. "There has to be one special thing you did." yes, the board games.
    A couple of teachers even accused me of lying because "Everyone does atleast one special thing during vacation time"
    So yeah, I had to start every year with telling my class I was poor. Fun

    3:50 Same, we started studying Holocaust literature in 7th grade and it was so upsetting to me that I honestly zoned out for a lot of it. Then a test got passed out to see if we had been paying attention, and there was an essay question asking to write what conditions were like in the camps or something really intense for 12-year-olds to be describing in detail. I just wrote, "I can't do this. It's too painful," which should have been the teacher's queue that MAYBE this subject was a little too much for this class, but instead they just took point off and made a note that this wasn't an acceptable way to answer an essay question. I always felt conflicted because, you know, was I just making excuses? Was I being lazy? Was I being a big baby? Was I using the pain of other people as a clever way to weasel out of taking a 7th grade test? Several years later, I found out that my great-great grandmother was a Russian Jew who fled the pogroms, so maybe that's why studying Holocaust material has always made me feel like my body is full of angry bees. :/

Nothing said about reading it out loud when the assignment is given out. Then the day comes that the assignment is due, and teacher asks who wants to start reading theirs first. It’s like- if you would just TELL ME beforehand that we were gonna have to read it out loud, I would have written about something less deeply personal! It’s one thing handing in a writing assignment to your teacher where they’ll be the only one to read it, and unless it’s concerning, never talk about it. It’s a whole other thing to literally read out your most deep, personal, thoughts and experiences to your class, when most of them are barely acquaintances at best, and some may even use it against you. Absolutely terrible! Any time the teacher gave us the option if we wanted to read it out loud or not, I turned it down. Multiple students found out their parents weren't their bio parents (sometimes adoption that the parents never said anything about, but a few times cuz somebody cheated). My high school forensics course does still have a blood typing assignment, but that class is an elective and you can skip that assignment and do something else.

      It's way better to teach kids, that there are my possible situations and make any sharing vulentary, then grading kids on how perfectly they fit the mold.... There is so much unfair and degrading stuff happening..... No one owes anyone their personal history and how many teachers react only makes the kids more afraid to ever share and stigmatise any divination....

    I really hate that meme about Cinderella because it shows that people didn't see it. In this movie the Duke is going all over the entire country (not Prince he is the royalty duh) and his job is basically to bring all the girls that can fit the shoe. And Prince then WILL recognize Cindirella because he remembers her goddamn face.
    Still good vid as always Click. Keep it up.

      @@AC8X yeah. There's also a lot of victim blaming towards Cinderella. "Why doesn't she just leave?" "Why doesn't she stand up for herself?" "Why is she so passive?" It frustrates me to no end how much Cinderella gets labeled as one of the weakest Disney princesses because how "little" she does to try to get out of her terrible living situation.

      Been replying to a few of these, but yeah, none of those comics make any sense within the context of the films. The only fair question is Ariel and even that has several reasonable answers besides "then there wouldn't be a movie".

    Ahh the things slugs go through for us.
    They tell by training the slug to have some strong reaction to a specific event. So say they give it an electric shock every time they offer it X food until it starts avoiding X food to not get shocked.
    Then when they do the memory erasing thing, they try to get the memory for the whole "being shocked" thing. If the snail suddenly stops avoiding X food, than they have removed the memory.

    Also about the vtubers. I do agree, I suspect they will explode with AI
    I myself don't like them at all though. I either want to see a real person or just no person at all. Plus livestreams, i never manage to watch them anyway and I don't miss them either honestly

    34:10 About sword sounds: There is actually seblance of realism as metal scabbards are a thing

  • @crwydryny
    @crwydryny Před 8 měsíci +49

    The metallic schwing sound you get with swords in films is because they put a metal ring on the scabbard to make the sound in old films so now the sound effects department add it as standard. In reality if you're making that sound drawing your sword... You're grinding the edge off your blade and it's going to be blunt fast

  • @Luscinia_Nightengale
    @Luscinia_Nightengale Před 8 měsíci +61

    So, the sword "shing" sound is from the metal sheath used in fencing and with rapiers and other thrusting oriented swords, though they were still uncommon - you didn't need to worry about dulling the cutting edge, so you didn't need to line a metal sheath with wood, or construct the sheath entirely out of wood.
    This came with the added benefit of being able to use the sheath as a weapon too.

    • @msf2399
      @msf2399 Před 7 měsíci +9

      I had the hilariously opposite problem; I’m at the end of a chain of half-sisters (so me, my half-sister on my mom’s side, her half-sisters on her dad’s side, etc.) so when it came time to do family trees, I could never fit all of us on the paper. Teachers were usually mildly confused when the nice clean “pyramid” they expected us to draw had a weird bulge at the parent level and then got mostly cut off because I never knew much about their family histories past their parents. The only time this was a problem was when one teacher tried to tell me to redo the assignment because I only had one “real” sister.

      I once had a friend who I took Spanish with, and his mom was the teacher. His parents are divorced, so when the teacher was drawing the family tree as an example, she left out my friend's dad (who also worked at the same school by the way). One of my classmates asked where the dad was, and she just said "he doesn't get to be on here." That student didn't ask anymore questions and we (even people who didn't know)all laughed about it, with only my friend, the teacher, and I having context. Don't think my friend ever told his dad about this, but I wonder what his reaction would've been.

    On topic of the simulation, here’s a great question. Unfortunately, although I am not the nosy neighbor type, my grandmother, which I used to live with was. So the reason you don’t wind up ever seeing your neighbors bring groceries is because, and this is probably a good thing, you’re not the nosy neighbor type. The important result here is I can promise you we’re not in a simulation because not everybody hasn’t seen their neighbors bringing groceries in. Sometimes watching the neighbors bring the groceries in with Gramma is a lot easier than listening to her scream across the house to come watch. 😂
