When I hit the call button i can hear the ph ringing at my end but the receiver's ph won't.
When someone calls me i don't hear ring. I looked at settings. There's no info there to help.

If a guy from TikTok asks me to download this app shouldn’t I be suspicious because it requires you to share your number (which I never give out) and all these features are available on your phone EXCEPT the disappearing thing.

Not sure if this is still relevant to you or if you or the folks in your replies are still looking for explanation but I will provide one as well as my 2 cents.
The reason why Signal is being recommended to you even though it requires a number and shares features with most other messaging apps is because of Privacy. Other messaging apps either do not encrypt the texts you send, or they soft encrypt, meaning they can still decrypt it themselves since they're the ones who designed both lock and key. This leads to service providers like Google using messaging data to continue to build your AdSense identity, which is a profile that they have built of you over the years that tells them your preferences in addition to other personally identifiable data so that they can sell ads and then sell you things that are relevant to you (ever talked about something randomly and seen it pop up in an ad a short while later? Thats thanks to the level of spying they do).
When you use signal, you provide your number as your username. This is similar to how WhatsApp works. WhatsApp also claims to be End To End Encrypted, meaning Facebook should not be able to harvest data from WhatsApp. However, recently the EU has flagged them to stop them from collecting WhatsApp data and combining it with the data acquired from other apps like Facebook and Instagram to build Facebook Ad Profiles of its users. This means they have been fudging the truth or just lying to us.
Signal is also End to End Encrypted, but on top of that, this can be and has been verified by the general public. Signal is an Open Source program, meaning that the code behind the app is visible to anyone who wishes to read it. This also means that members of the tech community, which have a high concentration of off-duty industry professionals, look at this code for free to ensure that the Signal foundation is not lying to us.
Data privacy is becoming an increasingly important issue that we must all tackle. The rate of data breaches is increasing, meaning that the chances of your data ending up in wrong hands is also increasing. Breaches can include things as sensitive as your SSN. In the case of Google, if youre using google messages, the most sensitive data that can leak is Name, Number, Addresses and contact information. If youre using iMessage or an Apple device in general, the likelihood is lower but still present. They are much much better about privacy and they have been independently verified to be so, even though their software is not Open Source like Signal.
If youre an iMessage user, it is fine to continue to do so, as long as you know that blue bubbles are verifiably end to end encrypted, and green bubbles are not. If you send and receive a lot of green bubble messages, it's advised to switch to a platform like signal.

Hi i wasn't sure if you can help me out a little. I talk to this one person a lot on Signal. Sometimes it says Delivered right away, but usually it just says Sent for so long like a few hours and then it'll say Delivered. What does that mean? And I know that their phone is on cause they are active on Facebook.

I'm trying to save some photos from chats, but although the auto-download is set for WI-FI and Cellular, they are not saved locally. There is also no button to download them manually. Any ideas?

It's useless to me if it doesn't.. more than ½ of my contracts use Apple..
Other users have to be on Signal. It's the same situation with other apps like Messenger, Viber, Telegram, etc. where all your contacts have to be in the same ecosystem.

@@hoshikuzuvenus hmm. Non-profit you say. By tax standards yes. They pay no taxes and rely on donations. Like a church. The company started with a 50 million dollar loan and has increased to over 100 million. How do you think they pay back those loans?

The software is open source. If it was illicitly stealing and selling user information, it would be caught by the community

@@R_3079 I personally only use Signal now. It is open-source and does not track or use any data and those of your contacts! WhatsApp is owned by META, hence Facebook, Insta, etc are using your data and vice-versa. It was a very conscious choice for me to move away from WhatsApp and may not apply to everybody.
But didn’t it require you to give people your cell phone number out? That’s the problem I have with it. Those other apps have the ability to find you by a name not a number

Sometimes I have to enter a PIN to verify on Signal, why is that so?
I believe they show the pin reminder prompt periodically so you remember your pin. If you forget your pin, since it’s all encrypted, there’s no way to recover except just starting from scratch.
You can disable in settings if you don’t want to see it… settings, account, pin reminders.

All Chats are end to end encrypted by default. It includes Text, Voice and Video Chat. One to One and Group Chats are end to end encrypted by default.

What if authorities force signal company to access all data on servers
This actually happens relatively frequently, but Signal doesn't really have any data on their servers that they can access, so the government gets basically nothing: signal.org/bigbrother/

My only gripe is when switching from android to IOS all your conversations are pretty much wasted. Android version is better in my opinion.

Line and Viber are nearly identical to signal. Both offer default e2ee.
The key difference is that Signal is open source, meaning anyone can review their code. When they say everything is private, you can verify that claim. With Viber and Line, since they’re not open source, you have to trust their word.
