There used to be an option to organise chats based on categories, if they're personal chats or bank OTPs etc. They should bring that back.
I was thinking about that the other day. I don't know why they ever got rid of that. That was an amazing way to keep everything organized.

@@andrewhodgeson8006 Exactly. Google sometimes makes bad decisions. Like first removing SMS from the Hangouts app then removing Hangouts altogether. Giving messaging option in CZcams. CZcams message was a great feature, then they removed it as well. Then, this, giving us the option to organise messages based on their types in Google messages and then removing that as well. I wonder why Google does this, deliberately taking away good things.

Personally, I want Google to add the ability to edit RCS messages.
It's already been announced that they're working on that
I hope it's the type of feature that gets added to RCS Universal Profile itself tbh. That way Apple has to support it as well by default.
Cuz chances are if it was up to them to implement it, that's probably how they'll make RCS appear "inferior" to iMessage, by not implementing it for RCS chats. I can totally see them pulling crap like that.

We should get it soon. Google Messages is improving dramatically week by week. plus Google has announced the editing option.

I’m currently switching to all applications (Upnote, tick tick, and everything else I already used Google services) that work on multi platform so I can switch to pixel possibly next fall

Apps wherever you want on the home screen
Pausing while recording videos
Choice of face ID or touch ID
Choice of using gestures or having a small three button navigation at the bottom so you have a home button etc. But still all screen
Google Assistant instead of Siri
There are so many reasons I left Apple and I'm never going back! My Pixel 8 Pro is awesome!
I'm just glad Google finally settled on a single messaging app. For a while they had 3.
I still use their Google Chat as my main texting app with my family. Google is still a mess as they still have 3 messaging apps, 4 if you count Google chat for work.
1. Google Messages SMS and RCS
2. Google Chat (Gmai)
3. Google Voice (VOIP)
*4. Google Chat Work Edition/Current. Idk they rebrand all the time.

I've been testing out RCS with a couple of my friends and it's been nothing short of amazing!!! The UI is out of this world! I'm in India so no one uses iMessages or Messages for that matter.
Some features I hope to see are:
1. Edit and delete messages
2. Create categories in the app
Yeah categories are needed since i receive shit tonn of carrier sms😅

@arvind8302 they removed it on some devices I believe. My s23 Ultra no longer has that feature.

We need a fully customizable background (using a pic or wallpaper). Samsung messages has it and I know people that refuse to give that up
I tried Samsung's Messages app and didn't like it. Went back to using google's app. My sis is the same way.

I use pictures for my close contacts. Been doing it for years. That way I can see at a glance who is calling without having to read it.
As a recent Apple convert, I legitemately enjoy Google Messages more than iMessage. Ecspecially when you factor in the scheduling features.
@@KalebPrenticeI've never had a scheduled message fail on me. Maybe check your battery optimization settings for the messages app. Your phone might be getting overzealous in culling background activity and shutting down the messages app to save battery.

I have to use the scheduled message system daily, as the train service I use has a text based seat booking service; I set a scheduled text for each morning at the same time, and it works without fault
@@JamesBD05 Yes it works fine for things that happen on a set schedule, but there is no legit way to quickly schedule a random text that won't repeat by default. It's mind boggling.
The scheduling feature is awesome, the feature that I miss the most is the reminder feature, they removed that a few days ago and I used to use it so much to remind me of specific messages at specific times, it was fantastic.
5 out of the 7 features involve some form of emojis.
Maybe I'm just getting old, but these features, and the silly blue/green bubbles nonsense with iMessage is just frivolous.

Agreed. I use texting for getting stuff done. But then again, I don't have the mentality of a 12 year old girl so I guess I'm not the target demographic.
Nice full screen reactions finally. Games being added would be cool too.

I wanted the personal colorization to come back since it left when it was removed in the Pixel 2 lifecycle that feature should have never left.

They took out one of the most important feature, there used to be options below the search bar which organised the messages accordingly, like personal which shows all ur contact messages then theres OTPS, Transactions, offers. I miss that feature

What i think the greatest improvement to texting would be a return to messages that continue to try to send when we're out of cell signal until we're back in signal and the message is sent. Instead of instantly failing to send and it's having to remember to manually resnd the message when we return to signal. You know, like they way they always did before. Up until a few years ago.

I was a Pixel user from the Galaxy Nexus up to the Pixel 4 XL, after which I switched to Samsung. I know these features will eventually reach my S23 Ultra, but there are several things about the Pixel that I miss, and I'm feeling like I might go back when the Pixel 9 lineup comes out.
Dude I've gone back and forth a couple times too, back on P8P now. I've determined that no amount of hardware or software that Samsung comes out with will fix their gimmicky OS.
Couldn't you just download Gboard and use it on your Samsung?
Return a Pixel 8. Could not send voice messages. Problem well documented on Google Community Pages. At present Google does not have a solution for.Loved the size and feel of the phone.

Is like the ability to link a Google account and be able to communicate using RCS from that account, even without a phone number. iMessage allows also using an email address, so something similar is what I'm referring to

I have the s24 ultra and don't seem to have the voice recording features in this video. I have to click and hold button to record messages and also can't do the reaction emoji to send with the voice message I'm sending as seen in the video. Is it only available to certain phones or do I need to change a setting?

I love Google messages, but unfortunately, the update has ruined the organization feature. I can no longer organize my messages.
Yup, same, and they also removed the messages reminder feature, which sucks, I used to use it all the time.

Google Messages finally matured with profiles
Adding a wallpaper in Google messages would be a nice touch
Why suddenly is there no way to change the background of the messaging window, or the color of the chat bubbles???? It used to be that I could easily add a custom background, instead of just black or white. Why oh why would Google delete that???? ALLOW PEOPLE TO CUSTOMIZE AS THEY LIKE GOOGLE!!!!! We should be able to make the conversation bubbles any colors we want, and change their transparency. Give people the power of customizing. It's what the entire phone industry is about. We all customize our phones and every app to our own liking. Why is Google falling behind in this????
They removed the categorisation of messages and automatic OTP delete. My messages app is filled with OTP, Ad SMS and spams.
This is why WhatsApp is still the cleaner option for me.
I think there should be separation between sms and rcs chats
Whatsapp business spams are annoying too. Meta isn't any better.
@@ptbauro I agree it's getting worse every day, but WhatsApp spam is still very less as compared to SMS.
A separate app for RCS would be good I guess, I don't want my friends' chat buried deep down between OTPs
OTP delete function is still there
The two features you dont have can be enable in the debug menu within the app.
I'm not sure if you'd be able to answer this, but why do all of the photos, gifs, and voice messages I receive come to me as a group message between myself, the sender and my phone number as a separate person? I really wish I could just have ONE thread with the person I'm communicating with and not have to go between the 2 threads. Any idea how to fix that or if it's even been brought up?

I just started getting the full screen effects today, I was wondering what the hell was going on, it's pretty neat, I'm enjoying it on my S23 Ultra
The problem is it’s not released on all platforms at the same time. These may work for you but the person you talk to don’t see nothing. The only way RCS will work is if Google allows all chat apps to use it.
Another thing should be able to better control is the data size allowed to receive and send. I have unlocked Fold 4 my wife has a T-Mobile Fold 4 hers gets 1000mb but mines is stuck at 150mb I wonder why that is.
I wish they would get more icons in the emoji section! They can add more animals, more food options, more religious, more holiday decorations icons, etc!!!!!! They haven't updated Google's icons in forever!!!!
Repeating notification sounds is my one must have feature.
I've had them for a while now. Except full screen animations... Profiles are cool and save me time from having to make profile pics for contacts. I reactions are cool and add a layer of fun to conversations. RCS just needs to become more reliable and it'll be straight.

Is there a way to have individual messages instead of conversations? In email, usually there is an option to group emails into conversations or have them lisyed individually.) I can't even find a way to delete individual messages in a conversation.

I’ve got some of the features, but I don’t have others. It’s still cool tho. Even cooler that you don’t need a pixel to use use features.
I'm still using Textra because of the larger input field. Every feature that made me use it has been added to Messenger, but I can't be onboard until the input field is a few to several rows taller. I feel like I'm working on an old electric typewriter when a one or two line display was added to scroll text before printing.
Pretty sure I can make that part bigger on any messages app by jus dragging the bar to the size u want. On every cheap phone I had I could do that. Or pinch to zoom on messenger
@@dmo848 I didn't mean a larger font, I'm waiting for more characters to be shown. Textra shows about 4 times as many characters before scrolling the beginning of what I type out of view. Hopefully this makes sense.
I've been using Textra almost since their beginning. Used the big sister app Chomp for a couple of years before that. 2 Pixel phones, 1 OnePlus, 1 Nexus and a few HTC's before that. I always try the stock messaging app on a new phone and always end up going back to Textra. Most recently because i can forward up to 10 pictures at one time instead of only 1 with Google. Also RCS was completely horrible, messages were never received even tho it told me that they were sent and received, pictures would take several hours to download and i still could not send a video that was over ten seconds long.
On my end, I can now view all of the pictures sent and received in a text message thread when I click on the person's name up top, like on iPhone. Nice!! 👍
Return a Pixal 8. Could not do voice message. Problem documented in Google Community Pages. No solution for the problem at present. Loved the size and feel of the phone
All this but no visual voicemail. iPhone still gets the "phone" part down.

I joined the Messages beta program and did the latest update, but it seems like I didn't get all the features. I'm still missing the full-screen effects, reaction effects, voice moods, bubble colors, and profiles. I don't see on the Play Store where you can leave a review right now. Is it possible that these features are just not offered on my device? I have an S22 Ultra.

@Tdotdabawse , I thought about uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, but figured it wouldn't do anything. If you look at the reviews on the Play Store, it looks like they're still working out some bugs 🤦🏾♀️

RCS is inconsistent. Every other day someone I message is not able to get messages and has to turn off RCS and turn it back on later. Connection is definitely not an issue because it even happens while in the same room.

I switched to the z fold 5 recently from iPhone 13 Pro Max and I really like Google messages, but sadly I don't get to use a lot of the RCS features because majority of my family and friends are still iPhone users

As an long time iPhone user this is the phone that I have been waiting for, the phone that is going to make me go to google. I’m pretty simple, I just want a fast, nice camera , good looking phone that gives me the option of changing text bubble colors to whatever I want 🤣 it’s not talked about a lot but a lot of people want that.
The Pixel is awesome and you will love the camera.
so many features but i get some and then they are gone in the stable channel ... not only the new ones but also old ones (like the like icon to see the difference between RCS vs SMS) its frustrating ..
++ i had the new recording interface for 2 weeks now and of course now its gone.
One you switch to Pixel, you'll never go back.
Long overdue all of these features! Especially the emoji's! Those were pretty lame ... I was waiting for RCC for already more than 10 years, but especially 'private space' is the most awaited feature!

I got the new update 2 days ago, and I got EVERYTHING! The new bar under the text bar is why I'm here! I tried everything in the world thinking I've hit something to cause it to appear! Now watching your video, I know it's a new feature in the update that is gonna take me time to get use to! I don't like it, because it looks like wasted space and clutters up the screen! But yes, I received every option you showed in your video.

I'm trying to send a picture in a group chat, but Google messages isn't allowing attachments and i don't understand why? Any clues/help? Ice tried clearing cache twice and not workin. This is a new phone.

Yes. It will carry over to all Google services such as email, contacts etc.

I have an iphone for imessage / calls and my old fold 4 for everything else 👌
RCS doesn't send all the time. I have to constantly check the status, and quite often have to revert to SMS. Pixel 8 Pro on Verizon.
A known Verizon related issue, not Google messages/ Android.
i wish google messages would have an option to send deleted messages to a trash folder. i get worried sometimes when i have to delete messages lol. and implement vibrate when picked up on missed messages with samsung phones.

What I would like to see is privacy in the notification bar,like with samsung messages. When your phone is unlocked and you get a new message instead of the message being showin in the notification bar word for word,we get the words "new message",that way if we let someone else use our phone and we get a message they can't read it from the notification bar.
I think this is standard Android feature, check notification settings in the app info page

Are these features available only to Google phone owners? I have a Samsung with Google Messages but are none of these features.
In Asia, mostly people use WhatsApp and Wechat. It is compatible with ALL mobile phones. IMessage and RCS chat can never catch up.
In the U.S., most people use iMessage. We prefer not to use unsecure apps that sell our data for profit. WhatsApp and WeChat can never catch up.
