24:11 - Nicknames are one of the most underrated features. Set your name to a single letter and use your one Session account with family, online friends, random people. They all know you by different names!
I don't really get the use of that feature if a nick change only reflects on your side...
@@flinfaraday1821 I'm unclear if this has changed, but if not, this is wrong too... Your nick is updated (on their side) the next time you message them. If a user sets a nickname for you, that name is sticky, but if your chat partner doesn't assign a nickname for you then your nick is updated on their side.

The app is not responsive at all,the message takes so long to be delivered and sometimes it never gets delivered. Nice concept, but it's gonna take time to reach the the adequate maturity. I'll be watching!!!
thanks for guide but some informations lack. you didnt show sending media such as photos or videos. what is the maximum file size we can send or is there any option that we can watch videos or photos without downloading and which media formats supported etc.
Can iOS eecord video calls on Session? By the way, Session cant detect 3rd party recording app, though the screen is black it does not notify if the other end took a screenshot
Can you please go into more detail on what Swarm nodes are and the 14 day retention TTL. If you clear your data on your local device AND the network, why does the data remain for 14 days? It seems that it gives you a false sense of security if you delete everything but yet it remains for those 14 days?
How do you make open groups on Laptop?? I tried it on my phone and there also was no option.
I opened an account in the Utopia ecosystem. Everything is elementary simple and affordable, and most importantly safe.
anything named something as unrealistic as Utopia seems suspect to me.
It's an amazing app, wish more ppl would be willing to take that tiny step and switch the messaging app for more privacy. But they're just oblivious and lazy... and stick with fcb and others... keep up the great work guys, many ppl appreciate it.

can't we search any user with their username or display name like wickr me does? session id code is very long and complex.

I generat a session id number, but don't get continue button, don't get full screen, can't copy number.. problems right out of the gate
The only problem is that notifications on the iPhone don't work, regardless of whether you set them to fast or slow.

I am frustrated trying to send videos larger than 10 mb. I increased the default 50000000 to 9, but still does work. Any possibility?
If someone calls and the screen is off, it only rings once and it stops. You can easily miss calls this way. They need to fix that.
When will calls be rolled into the official release?

Disappearing messages is an outright lie. 20:12 it says "and that message is irretrievable um for both accounts there so it is permanently deleted" but in reality you can view the message again within 14 days. The message will once again expire after the configured time, but you can get the message back and reset the timer as many times as you like... You need only reset your client to start the clock over.
Why does this work? This function is implemented 100% on the client side, disappearing messages are just a message that says "And if you don't mind, hide it after 'x seconds'", but since the servers maintain expiring messages like any other even a casual user can recover a disappearing message long enough to snag a screenshot (or whatever)

If the app is not open at any time, u won’t get any notifications if someone is calling you. 😔
Can you please explain how the conversations got recovered using the recovery phrase? Aren't they supposed to be stored locally?
Sure thing! So when a message is sent it gets routed to a 'swarm' of service nodes, which waits for the recipient's device to come online so they can send it to them. This means the swarm has to store the messages for a period of time, and the time we settled on is 14 days.
So if you restore your Session using your recovery phrase, the swarm still has messages from the past 14 days stored and can restore them. Any messages older than that will not be restored.

@@Deggialll That's correct! Session has end-to-end encryption so only the recipient can decrypt the messages.

Super nifty app and very smooth to use! I do have a question though because the group chat permissions seem a little wonky:
I tested this out with two accounts on different computers and if I am the creator of a group chat, how come if I try to delete group members' messages for everyone (Ex. in the case of a member spamming chat), I receive the error: 'You don't have permission to delete others' messages'? Likewise, anyone in the group chat can apparently change the Group's name and set messages to delete after a few seconds.
On an unrelated note, it would also be cool to have custom background wallpapers for groups like what Gmail does for its inboxes.

There is no phone numbers used on this app. You use a Session ID. You can invite them through contacts to join Session
