* group admin role
* group permissions (3)
* group invite link (with admin aknowledge or without)
* image quality chooser button
* voice message with variable playing speed
* accessing chat while in call (dedicated button)
* desktop: open editor mode (little up arrow in input field's center): enter doesn't send, just do line break

Well..... if more people in your situation just said NO and used what you wanted to use anyway then I think more people (like your social peers) would be more proactive in downloading it.
Because they are normies. Unaware of privacy issues. If it doesn't effect them directly they can care less. Until it does. Simply the simplicity and bloat is what keeps them there. And that also it's a direction that the herd goes on

I've been using my steam deck as a secondary PC and dropping links, pics and messages between the deck, my phone and main PC is has been crazy helpful
Really helpful tips! Apart from SMS and disappearing messages I did not know any of these tricks. The Note to Self- Option is maybe the best one for me! Disappearing messages you find as well in Session messenger. Of course I have installed Henry's sticker- pack right away. 😁 Thanks a lot!

Signal looks awesome! I'm planning on using it, but can't yet at the moment. Hoping they soon come up with a different methods for creating an account.
On another note; I'd love to see a video with recommendations for basic apps for android like keyboard, sms, phone, gallery apps, calendar, and even clocks that don't transmit personal data to the app-maker or as little as possible... this for users who don't have phones that are supported by Calyx, Lineage, Graphine... or custom roms on XDA.

Alright I Don't Think Henry explained how to setup SMS on signal.
But basically you go to settings> apps and notifications> default apps> default SMS app, change it from your normal SMS app, to signal.
Thanks is there a way to download signal without using the Playstore app? As I'm sure Playstore sells a fake corrupt signal app

Note to self is great. I also create groups with only me in them so that I can group my note to selfs. Now that I have Molly-FOSS on my GrapheneOS machine it's REALLY usesful.
I have evolved from Signal user to Signal Pro. No one can stop me now.
I will say that I personally like how iOS implements stickers where you can use them as "stickers" and place them on top of any message that was sent at any time everyone else just uses them as a picture you send so I lost interest in them all together I hope one day Signal, Session, or another privacy focused company implements them like apple does
Great tips. I am struggling to add a custom ringtone. I see under notifications and sounds the list and the add custom sound option, but don’t know how to get a purchased ringtone in the directory signal is looking at. Thoughts?

The one Signal feature I need the most is a separation of encrypted messages from regular SMS. My annoying SMS msgs from deliveries, municipal services and spam clutter up my more important Signal contacts and groups.
Maybe a tab option such as sms and chat. Could be a setting per say. If I was you, male a feature request on the forums.
Why not just use another app for SMS?
(Never understood why people got out of having SMS in Signal anyway, except maybe for sending invitations to install Signal...)

Watch a few videos on privacy and how much other apps leak your data or even sell your data bestie you talk with them
If they are not interested in their own privacy then they are not going to be convinced

Install a sticker pack by clicking that person's sticker.
Only question I have is when old accounts disappear after you delete them on Signal. Got a new phone number, made a new account, deleted the old one, but the old account with its phone number, profile pic, etc. are all still in some groups a month later.

Question about Signal data usage please. A friend stopped using Signal with me because they say on their Android phone, Signal uses gigabytes of data in a few days which I guess costs them more for their phone plan. They said it's a known problem and seems to be related to syncing. Is there anything my friend can do to reduce this high level of data usage? Thanks.

Anyway, to change the primary storage from Internal to SD card on Android? Signal is taking 11 gbs of space on my internal storage. My backup is set to the SD. however, it seems the data signal is actually reading on the internal storage. Would uninstalling signal and restoring backup file from SD possibly switch the default saving location?
Also if I have to hold send to use regular sms how does the contact list know to include all contacts even with the app on theory phone? Is it programed to do this?
Regarding Auto-Deleting texts: I learned there are signal versions, that keep these texts anyway. Important if u thought you could just not have to trust anyone via this feature, cuz u still have to trust that the other person isnt keeping the texts anyways. Even easier: anyone can keep a picture of ur text and not delete that. Just fyi

My understanding from various privacy experts is that unless someone has screenshot your text, it evaporates. Quite important if you’re a journalist handling a sensitive source with delicate information… 🤔

I just got onto Signal. I use iPhone. Is there any way I can delete the phone numbers that appear under my contacts’ profile photos? I’d hate to chat in public and find that some weirdo looking over my shoulder is calling them! Hope there is a solution out there. Thanks in advance!
I can not create a chat backup on my iPhone. The option is not there. I’m using the latest version of the app.
Question...I have my settings set to delete (auto disappear for 4 weeks). But I still see conversation history going back over a year???

Work profiles & user accounts on Android are a great alternative if you're an Android user. Thought it requires two different accounts.

Is there a way to directly go to my months old message in a group/chat by click on ‘go to message’ in media files. That feature of WhatsApp really saves a lot of time! I don’t have to scroll all the way up to the specific month or date. Very important. Do reply if you know how to !!!

Signal doesn't support dual SIM so you can't have multiple accounts on a device 😞
I've requested this so many times but given up asking now
Telegram which may not be as secure at least supports dual SIM
Can't you just run another Signal instance in a separate Android profile with the other number?
Hi. I have 4 questions
1. If you block a contact (telephone #) and then you archive it so you do not see it on your contact list, does it remain blocked after you archive the contact?
2. What happens when you archive a contact? Can the contact still still send you a message?
3. How do I unarchive a contact? I am having a difficult time seeing it on the settings menu.
4. This probably is a feature that needs to be added to Signal but incase it is already built in, how do you block and/or archive multiple contacts at the same time?
If you hold press their contact bubble, it pops up choices. Archive/ un archive is in there. Also, if they message you and are not blocked , but have them "archived" yes the message will auto undo the archive. If they are blocked, they can not message you at all, or even see your signal account.
Do these work on session?

So I have been getting flooded with unwanted text Spam how can I block them on signal.

It looks like my comment with a link to Signal support page was deleted. Anyway there is a detailed description how to disable battery optimization for Signal - as Flupkees also suggested.
If Signal added scheduled sending and a send delay option, I would probably switch from Textra to Signal.

Send delay meaning you can cancel the text before it actually sends within like x seconds.

Yes delete the entire convo. It doesn't delete the person/contact. They will pop back up when they orvyou message thrm again.

I want to add that the first tipp (hold send for SMS) doesn't work in all countries. No such option on iOS here in Germany for example.
He said that hold to switch to SMS was an Android only feature. We ios users in any country do not have that option.

You're basically sending messages to yourself, so at least as secure as when you message other people.
They're end-to-end encrypted, and can only be read on the devices connected to your account.

Telegram is not as secure as Signal
But Telegram certainly has more features and Telegram supports dual SIM which means multiple accounts power phone, Signal does not
I've requested dual SIM support from Signal so many times but have not given up asking as they don't even bother to respond
Telegram is not end-to-end-encrypted by default. In theory, anyone who controls the Telegram servers can read your messages. Telegram says they do things to prevent that, but you'll have to take their word for that.
You can enable it for individual chats, but not for group chats, and it's coupled to self-destructing messages. AFAIU they also get your entire contact list.

None of my contact's use signal. Lol
Signals client apps are just a nightmare on Linux (apart from debs) there are not binaries.. urgs.. BSD? Do not even ask! Most privacy seeking people do not use Windows or AppleOS.. No Flatpaks are not officially maintained by Signal (I do not understand why but ok) ..There is not a webclient so no chance here.. Not even an official API where could just build your own client easily.
I wish I could see when someone is on line
But you can see 👀 if they saw your message.
